    ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on TH-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

You look great in pink Cammie. My daughter died of cancer 2 years ago, my wife in 2013 and just last month, my baby brother. I'm the last of my family living and turning 96 on October 28 and if you are wearing pink for the same reason we do here in Canada, a big Thank you to you and your support. I'm new to sheep, not much of a farmer, but another daughter of mine has convinced me to join. If I get nothing more than the grateful feeling I get from seeing your pink top, it's been worth it. Best of luck on your endevours. And great dogs you have there!

The moccasin is like wearing a ballet shoe. And to me shearing a sheep looks like x a kind of dance to me. Thanks for the demonstration of the shoe!

Just my second video to watch. So enjoying this! I know just enough about raising sheep to be dangerous. My dad raised horned Dorsets to show at fairs. Sort of what he did for relaxation while also farming. I worked some with them. We had several border collies. Am really going to enjoy this... your spotted faced sheep are gorgeous.

Awesome video Cam, well done!!! You explained every aspect perfectly. I liked the fact how well you presented your sheep to their best and especially appreciated you didn't dye them -- the uniformity of their natural colour really made them stand out compared to the others. I especially liked how calmly they behaved in the ring, nobody panicked, nobody bolted. they stayed as a group and moved in unison -- very impressive! Looking forward to the next. Hello to Lizzie and Josh!

I would imagine the moccasins also give you better feel so you're less likely to harm the sheep if you accidentally catch a bit of sheep flesh between your foot and the board.

Re: moccasins. When the leather gets thin and you wear a hole... take them to the cobbler (shoe repair shop) and he can glue another piece of leather on... be sure to tell him to make sure the leather goes clear up to the stitching (for the rollover). Much cheaper than a new pair. If the hole is quite big and there's no insert, ask him to glue in a leather plug into the hole. He has all sorts of leathers and they even have shearing tools to make the leather plug perfectly flat. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷

@@TheSheepGame , well, save your old ones in case your luck runs out and you've got to get them fixed. At the time, new moccasins were $65 USD and my cobbler only charged me $8 USD to add new leather to both. (You could get your old ones fixed and carry them in your kit in case someone forgets theirs or they step in something they shouldn't. 💖🌞🌵😷

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing. The closest I get to sheep is spinning which I've been doing for about 25 years. Understanding how the fleeces we spin come to us makes spinning much more interesting. Also love learning more about the different breeds.
And my Mom was a lowland Scot having been born in Edinburgh. Don't always catch everything you say but listening to all of you is like hearing my Mom again. So, much thanks from an 83 year old fan!

Really impressed with how clean the sale barn is kept. Some auctions, here, are quite dirty especially when they have hogs in the same building as the sheep. Your ewes looked nice but I could see what you meant about the sheep coming up to auction behind yours. Would those have been off grass, too or would they also be on grain?

True story. When i was in high school, i raised rabbits. I thought i was doing well at $5/ rabbit to the feed store. Well, at the end of the year, we show our projects and auction the grand champions. Of course, i didn't know that and i sold 3 out of the pen as pets. I didn't drive yet, so i had to get a friend to drive me home to pick up the rest of the litter.
I watched the cattle, pigs and sheep sell. They were by the pound. So, I'm standing up there trying to mentally calculate what my price was. I'm thinking: about 10 pounds of rabbit, to make my calculations easy. 80, 90, 100. That sounds good. 150, 200. Whoa, wait a minute. Did he say hundred?!! Well, it was hundred. But not 2 or 3 hundred. The bidders thought it was funny to watch this 90 pound 15 year old girl. My eyes were big as saucers. They stopped at $850. For 3 little fryer rabbits.
Point being, send Lizzie in with the sheep next time!
The following year was disappointing. $750. 😁

Questions… in the end do you think not dying them had any impact on sales price? Seems like several others didn’t dye as well. What is used in the dye to make them yellow? I remember you said it washes off. What are the breed of the lambs you brought home? What was the range of prices for the gimmers sold that day? Sorry so many questions… but if you could have the dream flock of sheep what breed would they be and about how many do you think you could handle?

Hi Cammy. Those were some beautiful sheep you sold and you picked up some nice ones for yourself. Is that how you keep flocks from any daddy’s mating with daughters. Thank you for showing all the different sheep. The texel are quite good looking.

Who is the little older looking fellow in the harness? First I have seen of such a wee dog. Bet he enjoys the air out near you guys!

Those moccasins are as old as sheep. They’ve been dug out of barrows, that frozen guy in the alps wore the same ones minus buckles.
