This week we're in Carrick-on-Shannon at the 2023 Carrick Prolific Ewe Lamb Sale. There's 700 breeding ewe lambs at the sale and lambs aren't trading as well as last year so we may not get enough for them!

That's the way it goes sometimes defenatly noticed this year that hill lambs have not been doing aswell as they had been last year although there has been a bit of a drop in the trade across breeds or at least in the uk saying that the big heavier breeds still seem to be doing alright. Having said that this winter whith higher imput costs I reakon it will pay to have slightly smaller hardy stock. Keep up the good work whit the vlogs and sheep!
I especially liked your "Irish" sheep - green and orange trim. 🇮🇪 The orange was consistent on all, but the neck colors changed. Orange=to be sold, colors=pen groups????
I too liked all the young people there. Cammy Wilson shows a lot of them as well. So great for the future. Food and honorable jobs.

Irish sheep. 😂 You're right, the different neck colours are just for different groups of lambs, it allows you to easily sort them in the mart into the groups that you picked out earlier in the day. 😊

They looked great lambs, what weights were they? Bring them down to carnew mart you'd have got alot more for them. You might even have change left after the tank of diesel 😀

Them's the breaks! Been listening to some great cowboy podcasts on sell-buy marketing of cattle, be interesting if the same principles could be applied to sheep...

A pen of them made 125 the following week, it's hit and miss!
Thanks for explaining about these coop sales and interviewing a few folks. I raise a few Texels in the US and am fascinated by how popular they are over your way. Will you put the ewe lambs back in your breeding program since they didn’t sell?

The screen would be covered in prices then Anna, british pounds, canadian and australian dollars, etc. 😂 Maybe if you have your phone near hand just take the euro price and do a quick google search. :)

Crazy the different prices half a world away. 40kg meat lambs here sold for the same price as the top replacement ewes at your sale
Yeah it seems to be nuts over there Brian! No payments though so the prices probably need to be good!
£100 isn’t bad at all
It's €100 Rob, that's 85 or 90 pound I guess? Not entirely sure. Similar lambs were flying over €120 earlier in the year and last year!
