Tupac was one of those generational voices that cannot not be denied. The thing about rap and hip hop is, if done properly, it can open up people's eyes to other's reality that we tend to not see. When done right, it is all about speaking your truth in a relatable way. I hope you dig deeper as there are some gems in the genre. Thank you for a great reaction to one of my favorites.

I was 17 when this came out in 95. 2pac is in a league where no other rapper is. When people say BIG is the GOAT I have no issues with that because music is subjective. BIG is amazing but to me Pac is the ultimate. I miss that era. Life, music etc. was different back in the day.

One thing about Tupac is that he would write really quickly. The story behind the writing of this song is that he had to go take a dump, and took his note pad with him, and came out with this song. He called his mom, rapped it to her, and she cried. That's when he knew it was something good/special.

HIs Mom was a black panther, who worked hard on breakfast programs for poor kids. She had him read NY Times as 'punishment' constantly . He was truly a lyrical genuis - his intelligence, firm committment to bettering black lives and ability to convey so many insights and passion in his music is what makes him one of hip hop greats.

Tupac in one word, is RAW. Everything he said was believable, passionate, real, and when he spoke his mind he never held back.
The message I took from growing up on his music was, CREATE YOUR OWN MOMENTUM. As in, no one is gonna come hold your hand and do everything for you. People got their own problems to fix. So never complain, never wait for help. If you want something, man up and go make it happen. Start something new yourself if you have to.

PAC had a lot of different sides to him and he gained a lot of knowledge from every situation. When you listen to his music, it’s like a ride through his life and experiences. Throughout his catalog he has a lot of deep thought provoking records, and you enjoy them so much more when you understand that it’s an accumulation of the lessons he learned from situations he previously rapped about. His life story and music is def worth diving in to.

There's certain songs where you can just feel his anger and rage when he speaks; the outro to Hit em Up is one of them , where this man just goes off forl like 2 minutes straight

@Makaveli13Xroy The man was book and street smart, and he rapped from his heart, which eclipses being a lyricist, not to say Pac wasn't coz the man had range and was no one trick pony. Pac was more about telling hood stories, the good, bad, and ugly of it. To this day, some people refuse to believe he died. Now that's impact and automatically puts him above the G.O.A.T debate coz he was bigger than rap and hip-hop.

yeah man if you watch his Interviews (like the one with Ed Gordon) you literally feel like you went through 4 years of college by listening to this man speak , its crazy to me that this dude had the wisdom of someone who lived over a 100 years when he literally was only alive for 25 years, not to mention he was only in the rap game for like what ... 6-7 years ? but he left a legacy that people 30 years after his death still can't touch , he legit made over like 700 songs in over 7 years....dude was the definition of a workaholic, thats exactly why i got the man tatted on my arm ; listening to him got me through so much shit in my life @@davidfortuin4146

a little bit of background and context: afeni shakur was a very active member of the black panther party in the civil rights movement. just to give you an idea of what that meant, it came out in government documents years later that the fbi straight up murdered their leader, fred hampton, in the 1969. (there's a good movie about this called 'judas and the black messiah' which you should check out one day.) so anyway, the panthers were constantly being set up by law enforcement. afeni shakur was caught up in that, and was in jail when she was pregnant with tupac. she was later acquitted thankfully. but tupac's godmother, assata shakur, is still in exile in cuba to this day..
after afeni was released, obviously she had tupac, but things didn't get any easier. she became a drug addict, and was estranged from tupac for a while. i believe she kicked him out of the house. this song was written years later.
keep all that in mind when you listen to these lyrics. it really is something special, this song... i've never seen an artist like 2pac before and i doubt we ever will again. him and his mother were heroes.

Please check out Keep Ya Head Up, it's kind of along these same lines. It's another one of his most popular songs.
The reason that I will always love and appreciate 2pac is the simple fact that he always stayed real. In his life and in his music, it was always HIM, and he never changed for anyone.
