      Hi Gerry, These fence made trellises are better than any of the purchased trellises. I make one almost every day. Many times now I don't make the whole circle and just make it into a half circle which works really well for most of them and you don't have as hard of a time to put it around growing plants. @WaterspoutsOfTheDeep 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool idea. Another thought for example the demo plant you had there you could even just cut it way shorter. As the plant grows and gets bigger and needs a higher trellis you can use the piece you cut off, slap it on top and bend over the ends to secure it to the top and add a extra story to the tower each time you need more height essentially. So you can always have a trellis at the perfect height!

      Hoya papaschonii can live out its entire life pretty happy growing in sphagnum alone; so you could just get more sphagnum and move them up to a bigger pot. I am experimenting with semi-hydro and a material called pon that may work well for them, but that video will be out next week.

    • @DougChamberlainVTHoyas
      @DougChamberlainVTHoyas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My rule of thumb is that larger leafed Hoyas and ones with stiff vines should go one per pot as when they get growing one vine will keep getting longer and you can wind it on a trellis to make a full looking pot. Small leafed Hoyas such as lacunosa, bella, and DS-70 should be planted with several cuttings in the same pot for a fuller appearance

    I was thinking it could be stabilized a bit maybe by putting a PVC pipe in the pot first and putting gravel part way up in the PVC pipe to make it heavier then put the fencing over top of that then put your potting soil in your plant inside. But keep it from getting top-heavy also you could put pet sphagnum Moss down inside between the PVC pipe and the fencing and maybe give more benefits of the plant because you could spray that a bit and help with humidity

    Not the best solution for a heavy foliage Hoya - this becomes top heavy and unbalanced - in the wind it'll blow over. Keep trying there's a better solution out there

      If you are growing your Hoyas outside where the wind blows them over, this is not for you.
