I'm currently running and modding a G923. So far I've wired in an external handbrake "V1" and actually just installed the kit to put my button box in front of my deep dish wheel and have been in contact with the seller from etsy. Had a bit of an issue with the 3D printed paddles but he just sent me a new set I'm gonna try em out tomorrow. This is my 2nd one in about a year, first one was used, this one was new, and I'm loving the modability of it. I will say, I do plan on upgrading to the $1400 Logitech Pro direct drive in the future, but for now I plan on modding the hell out of my 923 and keeping it as an extra setup.
A quality review as always, but what an uptick in production quality and editing - great stuff. I used a G29 for many years, and it served me well. It's maybe not as durable as Logitech's older offerings, like the Driving Force GT, but it is a great starter wheel and can push you well into the future if you choose to stick with it. I reached my ultimate pace with it, and in a roundabout trickle-down way I wouldn't be in my current career in Esports' orbit without my G29 and what I was able to extract from it. I'll also vouch for AXC. It's quality stuff, works perfectly, and I wouldn't go anywhere else if you need to freshen up your pedals. My G29's pedals were threadbare, with a non-functional clutch and a cheap potentiometer kit with some badly 3D-printed gears - I dropped in three AXC pots and a wiring harness, and they were good as new. I refurbished the pedals to hand my G29 down to my girlfriend's little brother and I can rest easy knowing that he'll be heel-toeing and trailbraking for a good long while, and will recommend the TrueBrake if he gets a rig and needs something harder.
The brake pedal really lets it down but is quite easily sorted. I quite like mine but when I jumped on a fanatec setup it's night and day. You won't get faster on a better wheel necessarily but your consistency certainly will. I couldn't believe how much easier lapping was on the fanatec I tried. I would say though, I don't remember which fanatec wheel I was on but, the logitechs buttons (apart from shifters) felt loads better than the pricer fanatec.
@@blastofo there's a rubber stopper in it that makes it way too stiff by default, like you can barely even reach 100% and it's super inconsistent. Removing that rubber makes it tons better but then it reaches 100% input in-game before actually being physically pressed all the way in. So for me I'm using the clutch pedal to brake instead, it was difficult to get used to because it's so light and has little travel but it works.
One of the better reviews for this wheel that I've seen. I'm currently looking for a wheel for SIM racing, but my problem is that I'm a 70 year old man who's driven many different sports cars with manual transmissions on fast mountain roads since the 70's so I have certain expectations as far as feel and feedback is concerned from the steering and pedals. I also have a limited budget, so basically I'm between a hard place and a rock. So I guess my only options are to either settle and buy a G923 (US$280 new as of 2024) or look around for a good deal on a used Fanatec or other high end setup. I've been looking at Logitech's Pro steering wheel too, but it may be priced a little beyond what I can afford with pedals and shifter. Thanks for your honest review, especially on pointing out how an older and more experienced driver might feel about the G923 or any other beginner wheel.
To be brutally honest it's a cheap plastic toy but I've grown to love it for what it is. 300 euros may sound like a lot to spend, but considering that it's a wheel base, rim, pedals and desk clamp all in one with no need to think about anything else, it's honestly a great package. And yes, you will still have tons of fun with it and you can still be fast with it on a sim and have great races. I've just ordered my first DD wheel and the amount of tiny details and technicalities to consider was just immense. I'm sure it will be worth it in the end, but the simplicity is something I'll miss about the G29 for sure.
That's why I always leave my comments open and unedited, takes more than just my single opinion to make a video genuine! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment - appreciated
I paid NZ$373 (US$225 or £180) here in New Zealand (including shipping) for a brand new Logitech G923 last month, the PlayStation version. What a bargain. I did try out my friend’s Fanatec DD Pro 8nm and that was amazing! But it’s more than 4 times the price of my Logitech wheel set. I will hopefully upgrade one day, but for now I’m having a blast. I’m much slower around tracks using the wheel than I was using a remote control, but I am improving bit by bit. I’m an older player, so my reflexes aren’t what they use to be - LOL
I use the G923 on ACC and im quicker than my 2 mates who both have the Fanatec Mclaren wheels and pedals. That's why i haven't made the jump yet. I love jumping on ACC and doing the LFM daily races, normally in the top 10 and quite often get podium finshes. Ive played on the DD wheels and to be honest im not any quicker than with my G923 which is much better than what these youtube reviews make out. Dont be scared off by these guys who think they are above using Logitech. The wheels and pedals are perfectly fine and you can be competitive with them.
Just picked up a G923 for 400 NZD, 192 pounds sterling. A bonafide bargain at that price. Enjoying it so far but boy I have a lot to learn, especially when it comes to braking
@@ninawitdanina yes! Really enjoying it. It's definitely a learning curve though, turning off all the all abs, traction and asm in search of quicker lap times is a big adjustment 🙂.
@@ultinarnolds7401I have it mounted on a metal stand, you know those collapsible ones? And yes it makes quite a racket on that. Noisier than I expected
I just got into sim racing and I chose the G923. Being new, it's obvious I am not experienced with other wheels, but so far I am really enjoying my G923. I think the build quality and feel are great for the price. I think the Force Feedback is pretty good, though that varies with games. GT7 has good feedback, but ACC has really great feedback. My biggest complaint is the brake pedal. It feels way too stiff for me. While I am getting a bit more used to it, I still may search for a mod. I've heard people switch the clutch and brake pedal springs (I'm thinking about this) or people buying the aftermarket mod that was advertised at the beginning of this video (also thinking about this). I bought a nice Playseat Logitech simrig, so this wheel is mounted very well on it, and I am having a blast. I wanted to make sure I would fall for the sport of sim racing before buying expensive wheels. Plus, I ended up with 2 of them! haha I wanted to be able to swap the wheel out between PS5 (GT7) and Xbox (Forza) and see what platform I enjoyed better before going with an expensive wheel.
Not sure if you have checked but I'm pretty sure there's a rubber stop in the brake pedal housing that you can take out which makes the brake alot easier to press. The rubber stop is meant to simulate a more real gt car feel I guess but alot of people have had your concerns and resolved it by removing it
You are correct, I'm a mid 40 year old Forza "controller" racer that just decided to get a wheel set-up. I have this G923 for about a week and it doesn't "wow" me one bit. About to return this and look for a DD setup (Fanatec CSL DD) and see if I get more of a fun factor out of it. I just wanted to dip my toe into sim-racing but it looks like I'm going to have to open up my wallet a little more than I expected.
sad to hear that it didnt meet your expectations, ive been using the g923 for years now and it currently has over 3k hours of use for me, very fun wheel imo
Surely the Thrustmaster and Logitech wheels are the only options for console racers. The Moza and Ci???? (cant remember its name) afaik are pc only. I know Fanatec too, but outta average racers price range.
Thank you for this review. I'm really struggling which wheel I should buy. I'm a 56 years old "casual player" playing mostly GT7 on PS5 and I think I will never become a fanatic Sim-Racer due to a lack of time. So I don't know if I should buy the G923 or spend a little bit more for a Thrustmaster or something else. There is a combined offre in my country at the moment for a G923 together with Playseat Challenge X for about 490 USD. Any advices ?
@@dannyleeracing or 10 years like my broke self did with my g27. My advice, when you do upgrade from g-series, skip t300 or a belt driven “better wheel”. Save your money and go straight to DD. 😊
The best review i have ever seen. i had been planning to get a racing wheels for like a lot of time but finally i will buy one and this video was really good to help me understand how it works. Thanks!
My argument for this wheel, which I’m thinking about purchasing is that I just want to wheel and anything cheaper than this one is utterly terrible or doesn’t have any force feedback. The way I want force feedback is informational, cheaper wheels with no force feedback, or terrible force feedback, don’t give me any more information than a controller. I don’t care if the force feedback is weak as long as it’s decently accurate. Racing is my goal not immersion. I will get enough of that from my VR headset lol.
Feels like there's really not much to choose from when it comes to these kits. I don't like the noise of G923 but also T300 is notorious for it's poor durability. But there's almost nothing else there before you must spend +1k on this setup. Or they are not supported on whatever game/platform you are trying to play.
I would recommend the Thrustmaster TX as a "starter" wheel, yes it's a bit more pricey, but it is a wheel that won't hold you back and will take you to the point where you're ready to go to town on a sim.
That's good input - I always welcome 'votes in favour', it could well have been that I started on Thrustmaster rather than Logitech and I would be saying the same things - it's a coin flip!
@@papi_chulo69420 Only the CSL DD base. You'd still need pedals and a wheel. I have actually made this upgrade from the TX though, and it is indeed totally worth it.
Not watching anymore vids on this wheel, seems like it gets bashed. My last wheel was a DFGT, used the hell out of it and was impressed, so I’m sure this will be a generous upgrade from that
It gets bashed for the same reasons Vauxhall Corsas get bashed - it's a basic bit of kit in the grand scheme of things, but you'll find many people used to have one and are still sim racing today, so it can't have been that bad!
I got a g923 two months ago. For the price it is amazing. The only problem currently is the extra buttons aren't supported on xbox and there is a glitch in f1 23 atm where there is no ffb. The final issue is on EA not on the wheel
Most people suggest to get t300, only problem is they arent available for purchase directly from any retailers in my country. I could import one at a premium of almost double the price, so im stuck with having to choose between g29 and g923
I've definitely heard of people like this - I am betting that the pro in question spent about 10,000 hours on their G25, and something like that would be woven into your DNA almost. For the humans, though, there will be a limit on how far the Logitech wheels can feasibly take you.
@@dannyleeracing He ended up beating his G25 times with the expensive simulator equipment, but it took like two days to reduce by 0.1s. The G25 was his first racing wheel 16 years ago but it had been dusting on a shelf for a decade. I guess no matter the level of realism, it's still videogame after all.
I just grabbed one of these refurb for like 190 USD, which seems a much better place to be than 300-380 quid, which according to google is like 379 - 480 USD.
Although there's not a huge difference between belt driven and direct drive, gear driven wheelbases are awful. They sound like they're breaking, all the time it's in use, avoid like the plague. I would say that it's probably worth spending a little more for an entry level direct drive system from Cammus, Fanatec or Moza, even if you decide sim racing isn't for you, it'll be easier to sell a direct drive system. I would buy a belt drive especially if you can get a ready to go system at a good price.
I’m assuming the Logitech wheels aren’t like real cars where the wheel wants to naturally go back after making turns but I don’t have one yet and it would be cool if it did. I’m mainly getting one for Forza and simpler games so I’m pretty hyped
I did go for the G29 instead of the 923 as the trueforce seemed like a gimmick to me. I play truck Sims and beamng mainly in VR and it's perfect (noisy yes, but much more durable than the belt driven counterparts).
I am a little bit confused. I just bought an g923 and mine got a switch on top to change between ps4/pc like the g29 despite the fact that it should not have one....and yes it is a g923,all black buttons, trueforce logo and a G on the whell instead of an PS logo.
I've just started playing with a G29, and I feel like I have to press the accelerator a bit too much before anything happens? Subtle touches on the pedal doesn't have any effect, and it's really impacting my game after playing with the controller for years. I guess maybe I just need to get used to it🤷🏼♂ It doesn't really feel realistic though, that bit.
Great video, thank you. Can you turn the gear mechanism completely off? I just want to replace my controller - I'd be happy with something that just vibrated with no force feedback.
Great video, covered my questions but created new ones, I would love to know more about mid or high end options and I have seen some pro models are not compatible with a gear shifter which is something I want to have. Any recommendations for a high or mid that can have gear shifter and brake handle?
dO you know what to do, when G923 shows up in windows hardware, joy.cpl and in logitech g hub, but does not calibrate nor communicate otherwise with the computer?
Totally fair statement - if you KNOW you're gonna be mad about sim racing then skip the logitech if the budget allows. Mid-tier is where the real fun starts
Never had the ability to have one Always wanted one was born in the 80 s i watched the technology improve and my friends always had something to drive with I just ordered my first wheel its the 923 on an Xbox one I cant wait to get into the race

Yes, I asked Bing how to do it and I was guided thru the steps (for Steam on PC). It included downloading an upgrade, and making some settings on Steam. The directions from Bing were very clear and it worked. Now I can use the steering wheel and pedals in my virtual Ferrari. Good luck. @@Jentzz
I got this wheel recently. I think this video exaggerated too much about force feedback being to bad. I race in real life and this wheel feels magnificent. Not the real thing but good enough to perfectly translate the environment to you.
It's unfortunate that Danny continued to compare this "entry" level wheel to higher priced wheels......when the premise of the title was, "Is this where you should start?" I just want to see if this game is for me without spending too much money.
I'm framing it in the context of where this sits on your journey into sim racing - a fair starting point with low risk, easy to sell on, but it is only scratching the surface, don't hesitate to upgrade if you are in a position to do so.
in 2023 it makes no sense when you can get something like fanatec direct drive bundle for $400 that is better in every way or even match Logitech price get like a cammus.
Picked one up last week after having tried out a full on sim rig the weekend before. I think it’s decent for the price, but no where near as good as a DD rig. It’s not even in the same discussion, really. The best comparison between the G923 and a DD setup is like comparing a GT86 to a GT3RS. There’s no occasion with the G923, and the performance, in comparison, is not in the same league or discussion. However, if you haven’t experienced a GT3RS, the GT86 is “fun” to drive, since there’s nothing to compare it to. Just don’t go buying the G923 then experiencing a DD rig. You just won’t be able to go back to the G923 or get rid of the itch to move up to DD.
It's so true - there's little comparison between the G923 and the Direct Drives in terms of theater and fun. Typically, only a little while after I finally released this review, the prices dropped to the floor for the CSL DD! I have impeccable anti-timing.
@dannyleeracing what is your recommendation for the cheapest dd set up for Xbox? As don't want to spend a lot as rather wait for pc for spend lot on a set up. But want to try to get into racing games more. Like forza I did try a racing set up at a pc store though it was a 10k set up monitor pc and all. So Def not entry level. The wheel and motor alone I think were around 2-3k

Sorry but I am stuck with getting help. I have a G923 with pedals. I am playing ETS-2. How do I get the LEDs to work? To indicate the revs - I'm guessing. Looking in the wheel's program - it says it is up to date - I don't see any mention of the LEDs. In ETS-2 (latest version) I can't find any setting to control the LEDs there either. It isn't I'm dumping this problem on you. Just I can't see to find the magical missing trick.
@@Vextoh So does ETS-2? Not that I expect you to know, but I am confused that I see all these claims it does. Yeah, "Ask them".... Just you showed it working (ok, not no ETS-2) but I have to start somewhere.
@@BossMan-vb6pi As far as I know the lights only work with racing games (yes to indicate revs). From what I read about ETS-2 and ATS is that the lights do not work unless you use a 3rd party program like (fanaLEDs)

Im still wondering what the step above this wheel would be? When it comes to wheels for console ot seems like its just this or the Thrustmaster TMX. Any recommendations?
Why G923 when you can Cammus C5. 😘 Actually my first wheel ever was the CSL Elite. I refuse to buy anything lesser like any Logitech or the Thrustmaster T300 and T500 as my pride doesn't allow it. Upgraded the pedals a few years later with BJ Sim Racing's Steel GT.
The answer is no, T300 minimal that is if you like to drift, and stay away from the shifter all together, even cheap amazon shifters are a better option, anything you have to mod aka the shifter brake pedal is a joke, the G25,27,29,923 are all the exact same design the only difference is the main board, motor strength, & wheel, shifter is still the same design internally, and only has been down graded over the years removing buttons & sequential option.
Can I ask which one has a better compatibility on games? G923 or t300? Also, the pricing of g923 is around 2500 hkd with a game worth 500hkd as free, while t300 is around 3500-4000hkd Which should I choose?
@@edson0528 both work with console and pc, with support across all of the most popular titles. I also live in HK. 3500 for a t300rs is a rip-off for a wheel that old.
Whats the problem with the brake pedal exactly?
@@blastofo honestly i can't remember I fifddled with it quite a while ago. I think it was too mushy if I remember
Thought you were a little harsh on the force feeback for this wheel but that’s your opinion , just wanted say thanks for all the info, very useful.
What about the g923 noise? Im quite afraid of not disturbing my roomate? Worth the upgrade to dd?
What the Hell you are doing at 7:33! 😂
Yeah what is that cube 😂
@@Tobyiscoool lol he has the wheel mounted to the cockpit and hes steering with the wheel base absolute legend
you never addressed the buttons, how to assign them, the lights. mine don't work, except on little green light on top. But thanks for the description
Just picked up a G923 for 400 NZD, 192 pounds sterling. A bonafide bargain at that price. Enjoying it so far but boy I have a lot to learn, especially when it comes to braking
I'm about to get one for 190! Would u say its a good wheel?
@@ninawitdanina yes! Really enjoying it. It's definitely a learning curve though, turning off all the all abs, traction and asm in search of quicker lap times is a big adjustment 🙂.
@@Nickubus99does it make a noise?
@@ultinarnolds7401I have it mounted on a metal stand, you know those collapsible ones? And yes it makes quite a racket on that. Noisier than I expected
I just picked mine up for $260, cant wait to move away from a controller
I've had a G920 for three years. Works fine for me.
I still use this wheel after two years. It feels reasonable. But after multiple years I feel ready to move on. Probably to a Moza
A couple of years is a good shift
@@dannyleeracing or 10 years like my broke self did with my g27. My advice, when you do upgrade from g-series, skip t300 or a belt driven “better wheel”. Save your money and go straight to DD. 😊
The best review i have ever seen. i had been planning to get a racing wheels for like a lot of time but finally i will buy one and this video was really good to help me understand how it works. Thanks!
Thanks so much, that's proper praise indeed and I hope to repeat it
My argument for this wheel, which I’m thinking about purchasing is that I just want to wheel and anything cheaper than this one is utterly terrible or doesn’t have any force feedback.
100%. also i love your videos
That's good input - I always welcome 'votes in favour', it could well have been that I started on Thrustmaster rather than Logitech and I would be saying the same things - it's a coin flip!
U can get a csl dd for the same price as a tx
@@papi_chulo69420 Only the CSL DD base. You'd still need pedals and a wheel. I have actually made this upgrade from the TX though, and it is indeed totally worth it.
@@ShadowRacingboth bundles are like 400. T300 is only worth it if you are on playstation
It's interesting, I saw a pro racer that plays on a high end simulator go back to his old G25 for testing and he reduced his times by 0.2s.
I play truck Sims and beamng mainly in VR and it's perfect (noisy yes, but much more durable than the belt driven counterparts).
with the rattling and the loud noises usually you could just grease it and it'll be dead silent
I bought mine at Costco. You can start here if you don’t like it they except returns for 5 years
I am a little bit confused.
I just bought an g923 and mine got a switch on top to change between ps4/pc like the g29 despite the fact that it should not have one....and yes it is a g923,all black buttons, trueforce logo and a G on the whell instead of an PS logo.
Great place to start. I don't regret it.
Perfect wheel for casual Forza or Gran Turismo players.
Well structured review. Well done!
Cheers for watching and taking the time to comment!
What a great review. All the info that I needed to know
Thanks for the kind feedback, hope it was fun to watch
I've just started playing with a G29, and I feel like I have to press the accelerator a bit too much before anything happens? Subtle touches on the pedal doesn't have any effect, and it's really impacting my game after playing with the controller for years. I guess maybe I just need to get used to it🤷🏼♂ It doesn't really feel realistic though, that bit.
its a game bro .. not a real life car
I think it is a very good product for my 7 year old kid, and even for me as a casual PS5 gamer.
It's a great wheel for kids and casuals - I had a G25 when I was 16 and it blew my mind!
Great video, thank you. Can you turn the gear mechanism completely off? I just want to replace my controller - I'd be happy with something that just vibrated with no force feedback.
I'm sure you can just turn force feedback off while leaving Trueforce enabled, though that'll definitely be an uncommon way to use it!
currenttly about to buy a g923, great to hear tthat it isn't total crap. btw, didd no one notice 7:33 ???
If you good skilled driver, you will win against others with "better" wheels...
You recommended skipping this based on your age, can we get a good recommendation for the upgrade?
Great video, covered my questions but created new ones, I would love to know more about mid or high end options and I have seen some pro models are not compatible with a gear shifter which is something I want to have. Any recommendations for a high or mid that can have gear shifter and brake handle?
does this work for pc
dO you know what to do, when G923 shows up in windows hardware, joy.cpl and in logitech g hub, but does not calibrate nor communicate otherwise with the computer?
These days I’d never recommend anything lower than a r5 or a csl dd.
I have a g923 it’s a great wheel I would recommend it for starters but if your a serious sim racer I wouldn’t buy the g923 I would get a mid tier
Totally fair statement - if you KNOW you're gonna be mad about sim racing then skip the logitech if the budget allows. Mid-tier is where the real fun starts
Never had the ability to have one
Always wanted one was born in the 80 s i watched the technology improve and my friends always had something to drive with
I just ordered my first wheel its the 923 on an Xbox one
I cant wait to get into the race
What u can say about this steering wheel? Im too wanna buy it for my xbox series x
This expensive wheel not even mid-tier? Its over than a half payment. Fml
So..What should i buy under 350?
Man i want to start racing and try this, but i'm worried about how loud it truly is..
It's pretty loud - Fanatec CSL DD or Moza R5 are much quieter for not much more money

Will this work on a PC with a Steam game? I cannot seem to make Steam recognize it.
Did you figure it out? I’m wondering the same thing
If I have others in the room , can I turn off the FFB so it is more quiet?
in 2023 it makes no sense when you can get something like fanatec direct drive bundle for $400 that is better in every way or even match Logitech price get like a cammus.
What about the g923 noise? Im quite afraid of not disturbing my roomate? Worth for me the upgrade to dd?
G923 is pretty noisy, so definitely go for a DD if you want to be quiet
I know people are talking about racing sims etc etc etc. Has anyone used it for like F1? If so what is the force feedback like for it?
A stupid question, can you improve your manual driving skill by playing with it?
Most definitely
0h the new cammus coming out or out now id reccomend skipping this and going to it.

To indicate the revs - I'm guessing.
Looking in the wheel's program - it says it is up to date - I don't see any mention of the LEDs.
In ETS-2 (latest version) I can't find any setting to control the LEDs there either.

Im still wondering what the step above this wheel would be? When it comes to wheels for console ot seems like its just this or the Thrustmaster TMX. Any recommendations?
Either the Fanatec GT DD Pro or Logitech G Pro are the most common options above this
What's a good mid range wheel?
Fanatec CSL DD / GT DD PRO is a decent choice
Moza R9 or R12 too but only PC compatible
I Don't drive and wanted to know if I Can use this to learn or simulate real life driving on streets? Thanks
maybe not 100% but you will certainly improve, or least get a common knowledge on how to drive.
Why G923 when you can Cammus C5. 😘
Actually my first wheel ever was the CSL Elite.
Yea, t300 is miles ahead of this. I regret wasting money on the Logitech when the t300 costs the same and is leagues above in force feebdack.
That's really good to know, the specs also back that up at first glance
Can I ask which one has a better compatibility on games? G923 or t300?
Also, the pricing of g923 is around 2500 hkd with a game worth 500hkd as free, while t300 is around 3500-4000hkd
Which should I choose?
@@edson0528 both work with console and pc, with support across all of the most popular titles.
I also live in HK. 3500 for a t300rs is a rip-off for a wheel that old. Carousell has lots of barely used simracing gear, maybe you can take a look there.
If you want to buy new, try looking for a t248, which is the same price as a g923, but with stronger, smoother FFB and a much quieter mechanism.
i soled my G920 and bought the g923 only bc the g923 has more buttons
what if im gonna use it for beamng or ETS2?
It seems like this wheel is being judged purely for its FFB.
