    The 500x we are now using is about 210kg with the necessary sump guard and engine protection I have had to add to adapt it to be capable of light trail work.
    It works well for us because I am short at 5ft 9in and so I am above the centre of gravity on this low level bike.
    I am happier on this than a much heavier dirt specific bike which would be too heavy with my very average ability. Therefore I will go places on this I would not attempt on an unmanageable beast.
    The weight and size of the average rider also matters.

    One needs to travel like a motorcyclist, very minimal. If you don't use it never take it. You can buy many things on the road. Switch out ship extra home. Light is right. Learned a lot with still more to come in my 55 yrs of riding.

    Good video Pavlin. T700 is a solo-rider travelling motorcycle with 20% offroad capability and 80% onroad. Only a few other bikes can do a 2-up travelling, but never offroad with 2 people on 1 bike.

    I was looking at the Suzuki V-Strom 650XT as my first bike and their website says the wet weight is 213kg (for the 2022 model). Love all your videos, they're very helpful for beginners like me!

    The basic architecture of the engine in the T7 makes the centre of gravity higher than practical, for example the height of the crankshaft, the crankshaft is over 10cm higher on my T7 compared to my DR650 and the clutch and gearbox is even higher.
    Irrespective of the terrain, the bike takes more of an effort to move around at a standstill, at 1.77 tall this is a problem for me, when the bike is moving it is not so much of an issue but stopping becomes an issue of making sure I can find flat even ground, if the bike leans over more on the side stand I have trouble just getting the bike off the stand when seated.
    If you have long legs or you are taller then it is not such a big issue but the T7 is top heavy and there is nothing that will alter that until Yamaha design an engine more suitable for the bikes design purpose.

    I went on a three week camping trip w/tent and food preparation. The total weight of my luggage was 16kg including bags. It can be done. Only carry what you really know and accept that you can't prepare for each and every technically possible breakdown

    Always an important topic. My whole buying decisions, from bike to luggage to accessories revolve around weight. Even if your bike can handle the weight doesn’t mean you need to load it up. It can ruin your riding experience, especially with cross country travel.

    After owning a d675 which was 186kg wet, I just cant ride any bikes that weigh much. Any bike at 200kg is automatically disqualified. Lighter bike are so much more fun and charming. I dont know if any of you had mopeds(50cc bikes) during your teens but an 90kg moped is still the most fun bike I had ever the pleasure to ride. an 70kg 125cc racer was also fun to race on, and ktm 690 felt pretty okey albeit my dirtbike(cross) maniacs said it felt like a heavy and slow dirtbike :P

    I am now driving a 2020 F850GS and I can tell you that it's too heavy for me. I'm 1,82 about 87kgs and still too heavy. I dropped it in the sand here in Senegal and to pick it up it wasn't easy. Weight always matters. always.

    I just discovered your channel and like this first video. Going to watch previous reviews after this! All manufacturers list the motorcycle weight and maximum capacity! I own a 2014, 1200 GSA, I am 6ft 4in, at 84kg, and basically just myself with full suit, helmet, and boots, if I fill up the cases to max capacity and I think that BMW says 15lbs each I cannot have a passenger!!! So when I go for a long solo trip my suspension give up! The last time on my way to South America, I was fully loaded and I had to change both suspensions because the back "caved in"! I wish that I could carry all my camping equipment and also have a girlfriend that weighs 50 kilograms with the stock suspension! Great informative video! Can't wait to go through your previous videos. Cheers

      @@petewatson9866 It can be "a problem" if the bike is fully loaded, depending on the terrain! It always helps to have someone with you during your travels. Then rapidly you will learn to downsize on what you are carrying/need and take the real minimum! It all really depends on how many days you will ne on the road and what types of countries you will be in. Cheers

    Hi pavlin, thanks for bringing weight issue to the front, on past tours my partner has no idea how much to take! I take a tesco carrier bag but she likes to take everything including the kitchen sink! 🤪😂 Now I showed her your video I think she will at least half her collection! Cheers once again! 👍

    Rear tire capacity is probably about 320kg, bike weight is about 230, rider 100, so probably most riders are overloaded?

    first suzuki v strom 650 is 215kg wet weight. The old suzuki freewind is weighted 175 kg but feels 70 kg lighter then v strom, i own them both, I like the last one better for offroad, and long trips, used ir a lot in Spain for this and big thumbs up and is even reliable even this old. just my 2 cents

      The new V Strom is 213kg dry weight: bikez.com/motorcycles/suzuki_v-strom_650_2021.php. when you add all the liquids it would be more than 230kg. The free wind is with a 19-inch front wheel.

    This is true, the more you load the less you enjoy. Its ok on asphalt..not a big deal. But if you try offroad beeing a little bit aggressive and sporty the belly will touch the ground and the forks will reach maximum travel with 0 luggage on the bike.

    It’s so true I have taken this motorcycle out beyond my skills but at my age I can’t afford to be getting hurt so I am going to limit where I take this bike. Even though the motorcycle keeps telling me to explore every trail.

    Hi Pavlin,in the video that big rock moto did he said and linked websites that the stock shock spring is only for people of 70 kg. But you are 110 ? Did you adjust the shock spring then? Because with that weight you would need a 95nm one instead of the stock 70nm.Im asking this because i want to buy a tenere 2022 model and im 90 kg so that would mean the shock spring wont work for me?

    I have a 2008 Honda Transalp 700 with total weight full of petrol 220 kg and the reason i have not buy a new motorcycle is that i can' t find a real tourer motorcycle for long trips for 2 persons with lower weight than 220 kg.
    Year by year all motorcycles become heavier a i don' t like it.

    I am actually surprised that you are guessing wet weight of your T7. Best way to assess it is to take it to any place that has weigh bridge and weight it there after you've added all accessories you wanted/need.
    Most bikes/vehicles have specification of total overall max weight they are designed for. If you are mostly going to be using your bike when it is loaded to more than 75% of your max total weight you'll have to upgrade suspension to match that.
    Someone mentioned BMW R1200GS, and at its 230kg wet weight + my weight + luggage total weight ready for touring (actualy weighted) ends up around 340kg (77% of total max weight). It works ok. Handles great, no issue. I can even lift it if I drop it in dirt or gravel (no chance of that in mud). And we are not talking off-roading here. These are just our normal regional roads in Australia where often there are stretches of graded dirt roads between sealed roads stretching +150km.
    However, I have to refurbish ESA suspension every 40,000km.
    Other people I know who use BMWs, Yamaha SuperTeneres, Honda ATs, etc have similar experiences.
    BTW, thought of buying T7 but couldn't lift it easily and that was deal breaker for me (hired it for a week to try). Once on the ground compared to GS it is like a dead horse flat on the ground. Yes it is more easier to handle than GS at low speed and at little over 200kg on a paper it looks lot lighter than GS but it can become heavy very quickly during slow manoeuvring on dirt road or bumps and in general point of no return where I had to drop it comes suddenly. Great bike. If only they could pack up all that weight bit lower.

    Are your tyres / rims tubeless or with tubes? Have you considered a conversion? im curious to know your thoughts on this matter especially for the Tenere 700. pros and cons when your doing a long adventure travel, extra equipment you need to carry, etc..

    Let's agree to disagree.
    I think the T7 is very capabel offroad.
    Yes it's not a dirtbike and if you mean not suitable for a dirttrack instead of dirtroads then you're right.
    But with exeption of a few sections i think it's a great TET machine.
    I don't have time to do the TET in one run so i have ro split it up and ride longer distances back home and to the next part.
    On my next long trip i wil hop on and off on the TET, just because i can do highway to make up some lost time, have fun on the twisties and go crazy offroad al with this one bike in one trip.

    Leave those side cases at home, and you will be a better rider with a bigger safety cushion.

    Heated gips, frame protector, phone holder, fender extension and we got one another kilogram 😉. But seriusly, great video you made. Lit ion battery+dominator decat+ dominator exhaust and you got around 7-8kg less, but it is too much expensive i think. Thanks for the phrase "it s travel machine, not a dirt bike" because people buy this motor for hard terrain also, and thats a big mistake in my opinion. My T700 now has 15k km i everything runs absolutely fine. Stay safe Pavlin.

    Sorry to correct you but cb500x is 195 kg wet…not 220 kg as you stated. This was an important selection criteria for me.

      The new 2022 CB500X is 199kg. The 19-21 model which I own, is 197kg wet.

      It's a fascinating comparison of the T7 with the CB 500 X because you need to add much more protection on the Honda than the Yamaha and maybe at the end of the day, the weight is very similar. The same is with the CB500X's performance...you need to spend so much for aftermarket suspension, spoked wheels, lower pegs, etc. that the final price would be with a neglectable difference to the T700.
      Yet, it really depends on your individual characteristics and capabilities...if you are a shorter rider and would like to keep the flat foot to the ground and ride maximum gravel roads without the additional juice of the CP2 engine - the CB 500 would tick all the boxes.

    What are your thoughts on the Acerbis plastic tank. Do you think it's worth it for the extra range? It may be lighter as well. I know how a 200kg motorcycle can feel like a 400kg motorcycle climbing a single track hill when you're tired :-)

      Tenere has at least 300-350km range. That is more than enough to me and I don't have any plans to change the tank.

    Many sources say the same thing about the T 700 suspensions: they are undersprunged for some reason, engineered for an average 70 kg rider, which is definitely unrealistic in the European market.

    After watching this video I thought I would look at the weights etc of the bike, we intend to purchase the BMWR1250GSA. They way we was going for this bike is because my wife will be a part time traveller and the fully loaded weight was not a problem but, if I dropped our bike on my own, I can’t see me leg lifting best part of 300+Kgs at my age. Maybe this is not the best bike for us? Can anyone suggest a suitable big bike. Thanks in advance

    i hope i didn't make wrong decision ordering t7 for touring with my girlfriend on Europe. :/ i am 83 kg and she is around 60 kg. I hope we are OK with luggage capacity. what's your thoughts on this? Nice video!

      Original muffler is not that heavy. There is no catalytic converter in it.

    I would have been perfect to weigh the added parts before attaching them to the T7. But anyway, event if it was 10 kg, then we'd be talking about 5% weight increase. But then the modifications save you trouble and make travelling more comfortable. So if someone wants a lighter package, then good-bye T7.     I am 75 kg a 1.86 m tall and too much strong 😓 with just my t660z I hate lifting it unloaded, what about loaded 😓.
    Yes waight allways matters and soon or late the bike will go donw, and beleave it will go down whene you are tired 😫😫😫

    Pavlin, remember that 1 liter petrol is 0,7 kg so 10 liter weigh 7 kg.

      Yes, 14 kg for the petrol, 3 kg of oil and filter, 1kg of antifreeze, brake and clutch fluids...almost 20kg.

    But most midlifecrisis riders with 1200cc boxers and 150kg luggage think they can handle it. But not after hours of riding off road. Don't carry more cc's and luggage that you can't handle when your tired. 99 % won't get the bike up after they drop it.
