the 87-89 models were just badged Metro, they had dropped the Austin name by that point, there were some interesting models and variations around that period before the relaunch of the Rover metro. Thanks for the comment paul and for watching 👍
Wow that was a trip down memory lane! 20 years ago I had an R-reg 100 Ascot (in BRG) as my first car… I really wanted a Rover 200 but at that age couldn’t get insured on one! Mine was identical to yours apart from the inside was cream/beige. I remember the key fob alarm, the sound when it started up… takes me back to simpler days! 😁 Sadly the arches went on mine, as did much of the rear wing… its fate was sealed when some yobs tipped it over one night when it was parked in a rough part of Luton. (That’s how light they were). Great example you’ve got there - just stumbled across your channel, looking forward to more content! 👍🏼 Cheers
Thanks captain, R reg so yours would of been one of the last few made. Your right they were far more simple back then, thanks for watching the content and I will be posting more videos towards the end of the week. 👍
Great spec, Would loved that spec in this R100, the 1.4 had 15bhp more over the 1.1 but in a small car it was a big difference. Thanks for comment Jenny
Lee, I absolutely love your enthusiasm for the cars and video content. Seeing the photo of the BSM metro brought back memories because I taught people to drive metros and for BSM too. I am a metro fan, because they were reliable, comfortable and easy to drive (that's why people enjoyed learning in them). Again, well done and keeping them vids coming!
I was lucky enough to get a brand new one of these (a red 111i) as a 19th birthday present from my parents in 1995. It was a fantastic little car, £13 filled the tank & I did nearly 40000 miles all over the country with it in 2.5years. Not one issue did I have & it was totally reliable. Great memories.
They were never unreliable vehicles, just rust finished them off to quick, I know alot of cars in the 80's and 90s were rust prone but it just felt that with a few changes they could of lasted longer, thanks for watching andy 👍
Just came across your channel today and subscribed 👍My very first car was a 1983 mini metro that I had for years. I agree that prices for these cars are rising. I've just bought a facelift Rover 25 whilst I can before prices of these go up and before they vanish too 🤔 Great video 👍
83 model wow that's a early model, I have lost count of how many BL, MG rover cars I have owned bought and sold over the last 17 years, I just love them. Rover 25 is a smashing car and hope it gives you excellent service. A clean 25 should go up in value, I have noticed the MG ZR versions have started to climb over the last few years in particular very clean examples. thanks for the sub Nick
@@carukchannelI agree the 25’s are fast disappearing and they drive so well, I have two of them an early 1.6IS 3door with 10k on the clock and a rare Gti in Tahiti Blue as a going project, I look forward to your 100 project.
If my rover 100 was a 1.4 I would of been made up, its only another 15bhp but makes a big difference. with only 11k on this one I could not bring myself to drop a vvc in it even though i know they are easy to convert. This rover 100 needs to stay standard and be restored I will enjoy if for what it is and its still a great car. 1,8vvc is more than quick its boarding on suicidal 🤣🤣 thanks for the comment Tao
Hoping to buy a 1.8vvc 100 this week. Tempted to also to sell my run around corsa and buy a standard one because I think Lee is bang on, these will rocket in price ✅️
@@lewishunt6133 good look with the vvc purchase, try and buy one that has the pg1 box conversion rather than the standard box still fitted, it will still run ok with it but the ratios are not set up well for that engine. As for buying a standard one i would say find the cleanest 3 door model you can find either 100 or metro, the only way is up from here for prices
@@carukchannel thanks. Went to look at it and it needs a bit more work than I expected. It had the 1.4 gearbox. Nice car on the whole but I think I'm going to try and find a low milage, standard car like you have. There's a nice gte for sale which might suit me better. Thanks for the advice!
I would advise checking the date codes on those tyres. I bought a Rover Metro 1.1L 2 years ago with 23,000 miles on the clock. The rear tyres were the original Dunlops from 1991 and were incredibly perished. It also has its original cambelt, with teeth hanging off!
Hi ryan, yes I am going to throw some new boots on her in the spring when we get ready for paint, I have checked the belt and its not too bad defo not original. but I might just stick a new one on with a WP just for piece of mind. Thanks for watching 👍
Great, got to love the poverty spec (though I am guessing the sunroof was seen as a big thing). My parents had many rovers, but the 620Sdi was my favourite - think it could have been that blue.
I sold lots of 600's including a 620sdi great cars, even owned a 620Ti briefly (what a car that was). To be honest I wish the metro did not have a sunroof as they always leak, this one is now fixed but will no doubt leak again in a few months😁
I started watching your vids a few days ago as recommend by TH-cam of course! Also being in the motor trade I really enjoy your vids and agree with almost everything you point out on vehicles! Like the qashqais and aygos etc etc. You've got really great passion and knowledge, nice to see a genuine car enthusiast!
The Rover Metro was launched in May 1990, on a G. The R100 launched December 94 on an M. The early Metros had the interlink on the Moulton Hydragas suspension removed to save money, but later Metros with the interlink reinstated meant the cars were now how they were always supposed to be. The car was canned in 1998, mainly due to poor NCAP crash results the year before.
Nice 1 Lee haven't had a metro but had rover 45 and 25 in my younger years I had no problem with head gaskets which was a common issue guess I was lucky .overall cheap to run and maintain pretty reliable to and very easy to work on.nice to see your sub's creeping up great channel and well presented.
Thanks for the comment, had many MG rover products too and loved them, Hope to get them subs over 1k by xmas as a real goal achieved, I was thinking it may take me a year to get there but really shocked by the response to the videos only 2 weeks from launching.
My Mum had a 1989 1.3 Metro "Red Hot' (so previous engine) - stylish and an excellent 'runabout' - about 2005 I told her to start adding 'Lead Additive' to every few Fuel refills (I think 1 in 4) as the Petrol was all lead free by then - anyway, a year or two later I discover a bottle of 'Diesel injector cleaner additive' in the side pocket - it was the same shaped bottle as the lead replacement additive.......despite this the little Metro kept running just fine.
IMO bang on with the current valuation once painted. Good to see the seat covers haven't gone saggy. But fit proper wheeltrims and Waxoyl the chassis! Miss my old ex Post Office Metro van and 100 5 door Kensington SE - a brilliant drive as you describe.
Awesome! Funny you mentioned 306s. I'm a bit younger lol. My classic would be a D Turbo or high spec phase 3 HDI. You just dont see them anymore and they are are awesome. Either that or a Rover 75. Fantastic when you get something that reminds you of good times. Enjoy and thanks for saving it

You mate are what I call proper enthusiast to keep the car as it is and how it left the factory Don’t sell it because it would be criminal to let it go to someone who would strip it and use the shell to make a sleeper or stick something stupid under the bonnet I’d love something like this
What a great find. My first car was a 1993 Rover Metro Rio 1.1 in a similar shade of blue. Absolutely loved that car. Did many thousands of miles all over the country in it, and have many fond memories. Lost my cherry in it too, come to think of it. Sadly it succumbed to the dreaded tin worm. Even at 5 years old the rear arches were going. A guy I worked with bought it for his daughter who kept it a few more years, but apparently it failed the mot on terminal rust in the floor pans 3 years after I sold it. Presumably it was scrapped, but if anyone knows the whereabouts of L890DCK, I'd love to hear from you.
Great video buddy 👍 Think yr right to hold on to this one for at least a few years...its crazy how you'd see them everywhere and now can't remember the last time I saw one in the flesh
I have never come across a metro or 100 with power steering 🤔, it must of been a factory special request then if they fitted them to the Rover 115 Diesels,
The seats do scream rover 75 😁however Its a Maserati, owned it for over 3 years and will do a video on it in the coming weeks I am sure. Thanks for watching JN
Great little video mate. Took me back to when I was a driving instructor in the early 90's in Grimsby, when I had a red Rover Metro Limited Edition Plus, can't remember the engine size but, I sure do miss that motor. At the time it was decent quality for just £6500. 👍
@@carukchannel There were a lot of instructors back in the 90s, the Thatcher years with more job loses. Slight correction on my motor, it A Quest model, Rover Metro Quest Limited Edition Plus. Not sure what the plus was but, apparently, not many of those about. I understand it was the first Metro with engine block bolt that when straight through from top to bottom, though not sure on that. It was also designed to do almost 80+ miles per gallon but, the introduction of the catalytic converter put pay to that. Yes, I saw a metro on Just about every street where I lived. They were perfect for the learner, easy to drive and easy see all around, especially when reversing round corners and parallel parking etc. Looking forward to what you'll do with your one. Funny though, it's got a Ford Fiesta look about it. Oh, mine also had those headrest that were square with a square hole in them, funny looking things now though.
@@ThePhoenixlad smashing read, Your correct the rover k series engine did use large head bolts that went down towards the sump, its was a very light weight design.
We had a rover metro 1.4sl, and one year, it snowed quite a lot, the door locks froze, and as i was the tiny one of 3 kids, i had to go in though the boot 😂. We also had this model too in later years, great little car it was.
I know someone who had one - she loved it to bits - then she saw the NCAP performance and was worried. I was like if you were happy remain happy just avoid hitting stuff
Needs to be garaged or kept under a dry covered area maybe .. just to stop it rotting!! And to preserve its value.. definitely going only one way and that’s up !
Had a few of these back in the day, great little car & remember the 1st rover metro 1.1 4dr i had at the time was a great performing car compared to the austin metro
@@carukchannel assume they are quite easy to bolt on and off so maybe just worth getting them done when it’s in for paint. Worse case you can put some pov spec black ones back on if you change your mind. It’s Gonna look great, will get a lot of interest at shows and stuff with that mileage.
I had couple of gta and gti's also they were so much fun, I did buy a rover 100 with a 1.8 mgf (120bhp non vvc) engine converted car once and that was scary fast, only issue was he left the original gearbox in which you can do and will handle it but it was all over place in the gear ratio was quick to 50 but felt strange after that. Thanks for watching marc and the comment 👍
Very nice and original condition! Just needs a set of original wheel trims to finish it off! Seats look very good quality for what was a cheap car even new. I remember my piano teacher back in the day (1996 ish) thought she was pretty cool by having a 1990 Metro GTa. Apparently they used to go pretty well as they weigh nothing.
Hi braintree, yes they did go well, I had a GTA and GTi they were fantastic little cars and went like the wind. I am looking for a original set of trims as you mention it, thanks for watching 👍👍
Lol used to have a rover 100 Rio grande on a 94 m reg bought it brand new loved it hated it bloody filling it with petrol was a night mare cause of where they placed the tank and the pipes they put to it with the bends fuel used to shoot back at you and cut the pump off ended up swapping it for a Austin mini they were lot better.
Rover metro was my first car. Only had 4 gears and drove it till it died. Last year or so I had to get in the passenger side and scoot over cos the door handle snapped off in 30 degree heat. Got me to Plymouth from South Yorkshire and even waited till I got home till the exhaust fell off. I hated it when I had it but I’d love a drive in it now
Did the Rover model rectify the feeble fan/heater of the earlier one? I had a G reg 1275cc which was great (til the rust killed it) but gee, it was no fun in winter!
the revised rover metro with the k series engine was a massive change away from the austin 1275A+ setup. Theonly issue fan wise on the rover k series models was dicky ECU temp fan switches, this one was playing up when i bought it by running on and off randomly and causing it to over fuel as it works in tandem with the ecu to provide info of the car temp. Anyhow £6 switch solver that issue. Thanks for watching bud 👍
I had a Rover metro 100 1.1 1992 changed the oil and filter every 6 months and it never ever let me down , had it ten years it owed me nowt, the gear box broke so I let it go and yes there was the start of rot on the reat arches, I still miss that car

I bought a 1984 Metro Van Den Plas the luxury model around 2001 with 35k miles for £400 which seemed expensive at the time. Today they're fetching thousands, but sadly it was stolen
With such a low mileage and the absence of rust, it should be able to give a reasonable profit after a bit of work. When done people from the Metro community will line up to grab it 😘
Just a heads up but in one of your videos you mentioned about doing a hpi check but I follow a lot of car dealers on TH-cam and they all use a company called car vertical before you ask yes car vertical does sponsor their videos but seriously it’s so much more comprehensive than hpi it really give you a shed load of information if you want to know more try looking at Matt Armstrong’s videos or salvage rebuilds they often get their videos sponsored by car vertical and explain in full how it works it’s simply brilliant, anyway I just thought I would give it a mention as I think you would love it once you’ve tried it
*Mat* Armstrong - I can't believe so many people mis-spell his name. I don't even know of any Matts with two "t"s on TH-cam, only Mats with one "t". Mat Armstrong, Mat Watson from Carwow and Mat from Techmoan.
A simple no frills car that actually we could probably do with today. Even it’s modern equivalents like the base i10 or Picanto or still to complicated with to many electronics . With cars now being so expensive we need to have a UK built cheap no frills peoples car for the masses.
I rented one of these back in the day. Although it handled like it was on rails and had a good drivetrain, the quality of the fit and finish let it down. Other than that, I loved this car!

Ideas for content? keep doing what you are doing, your sub count after a couple of months tells it's own story...you've hit bullseye with your content and your honesty, values and no nonsense chat will see you doing great things with this channel...
Thanks dale, its been crazy journey over the last few months the response has been amazing.
Had several myself in my younger years - lovely to see a survivor and looking forward to seeing your progress- looks a lovely genuine car 👌👍👍
Many thanks paul, yes I will vlog the progress on it in the new year getting back to A1
I had a 88 Metro special edition in mint condition. Designed for city use and being able to park up with huge windows was a bonus for many !
the 87-89 models were just badged Metro, they had dropped the Austin name by that point, there were some interesting models and variations around that period before the relaunch of the Rover metro. Thanks for the comment paul and for watching 👍
A really knowledgeable review - you deserve more subscribers; good luck with the restoration!
Many thanks Greg,
What an absolute beauty! 👍
Grinning like a Cheshire cat driving it home the other night, many thanks for the comment and watch RC
Sadly the arches went on mine, as did much of the rear wing… its fate was sealed when some yobs tipped it over one night when it was parked in a rough part of Luton.
Passed my driving test in a 114Gsi. My mum had a 100 Knightsbridge se which added a factory sunroof, colour coded bumpers and remote central locking
Thanks Out and about, thanks for watching and sharing 👍👍
love your way of thinking saving what was an everyday car for the people cos you are right it will be like the mini in a few years very sought after!!
hopefully alun, thanks for watching
I’ve owned my 114 gsi since I was 16, 12 years ago. Has a 1.8 VVC so is a quick little car. Great fun to drive!
My brother in law had a basic metro it was p reg like yours, I taught him to drive in it and it was so basic 😮
Easy cars to drive, Thanks for watching David 👍👍
Really good content maté love the metro takes me back ❤
Thanks flip it up,
I would advise checking the date codes on those tyres.
@tonymcg236
I’m sure this was called Tahiti Blue, it was a Rover staple colour back in that era up to the launch of the 75.
I had a white Rover Metro 1.1 S it looked like an absolute beaut and went so fast, I used to wang it down the motorway at 100mph - ahh good times.
Flat out in a metro is a scary experience 🤣 thanks for watching bud
I started watching your vids a few days ago as recommend by TH-cam of course! Also being in the motor trade I really enjoy your vids and agree with almost everything you point out on vehicles! Like the qashqais and aygos etc etc. You've got really great passion and knowledge, nice to see a genuine car enthusiast!
thanks sophia very kind words, hope 2023 is great trading year for you
The Rover Metro was launched in May 1990, on a G.
Get those Hydragas displacers replaced and it will be perfect!
@@carukchannel good luck bud
Great Find a true classic Keep and Enjoy
Thanks Ray
My Mum had a 1989 1.3 Metro "Red Hot' (so previous engine) - stylish and an excellent 'runabout' - about 2005 I told her to start adding 'Lead Additive' to every few Fuel refills (I think 1 in 4) as the Petrol was all lead free by then - anyway, a year or two later I discover a bottle of 'Diesel injector cleaner additive' in the side pocket - it was the same shaped bottle as the lead replacement additive.......despite this the little Metro kept running just fine.
Yes would of been running the older 1.3 A+ engine, Great cars 👍👍
@@carukchannel Really like your Channel BTW
IMO bang on with the current valuation once painted. Good to see the seat covers haven't gone saggy. But fit proper wheeltrims and Waxoyl the chassis! Miss my old ex Post Office Metro van and 100 5 door Kensington SE - a brilliant drive as you describe.
Yes cracking drive, will be on the hunt for some original trims for it this year when painted
Awesome! Funny you mentioned 306s. I'm a bit younger lol. My classic would be a D Turbo or high spec phase 3 HDI. You just dont see them anymore and they are are
awesome. Either that or a Rover 75. Fantastic when you get something that reminds you of good times. Enjoy and thanks for saving it
Loved the 306, I have one that features briefly in a video landing this week. Thanks for watching Alex
Love your vids, your making me want to get back into buying and selling cars again like I did in 90s, loved the auction buzz, frantic bidding etc, oo and the auction cafe.
hi adebrade, the auction cafe is somthing we have missed during covid, somthing we have only just got back recently. best feeling in the world gettinf bids in and winning cars. maybe npt so much when its a lemon 😁
Cant be many of these left.
I used to sell these back in 1979 and buyers were queuing out the door.
Best one was the Vanden Plas or the MG Turbo.
Yes the MG turbo would be a really sort after car today. what commission did you get for selling a new one back then cabottaxi 😁
@@carukchannel 10 per cent of the profit. Got my years mixed up. Was with Fiat in 79/81 and British Leyland 81/83
@@cabottaxi I thought 79 was a little to early for the metro think it was launched late 1980 so that would tie in. So i guess in them times you would of been selling morris itals, triumph alclaims and metros then
A metro is still a sensible knock about, awesome cars, I’ve got 9 of them
9 wow !!, any interesting models ?
@@carukchannel yeah I’m a Rover collector lol I have other models such as SD1’s 800’s etc my metros

2 1.1 sports mk3
1 GTi mk4
1 Ascot mk4
Great little cars, much like you I’ve had 100’s of them over the years, probably most attached to my Nightfire GTA, I put a 1.8VVC in her then turbo charged it - I put a the 1.8 in her because it was just a rotten shell, I always wanted a GTA and there was one at a scrap yard near me, literally just a shell with the rear subframe still on, I restored her to “better then new” gets loads of looks around town

Wow what an amazing find!! Reminiscing!😊
Thanks mr pac, most of us have driven or owned a old metro or mini, such simple motoring back then
Enjoying your channel this morning Lee, I reckon the Rover community would prefer the black bumpers to remain, keep it as original as possible and you’ll probably get a club member in on it where it’ll be looked after. Advertise it on the forums, it’s usually free 👍
Hi craig, tbh I am not looking to sell it at the moment but who knows in the future. I hear what your saying about keeping the black, now grey 😁bumpers but I just prefer the colour coded ones. However I do want to keep it original as possible. I will make my mind up in the spring when we come to paint. Thanks for watching Craig and the comment its greatly appreciated
You mate are what I call proper enthusiast to keep the car as it is and how it left the factory
Don’t sell it because it would be criminal to let it go to someone who would strip it and use the shell to make a sleeper or stick something stupid under the bonnet
I’d love something like this
Thanks russell, No i intend to keep it, restore it and enjoy it. if it goes up in value over the next 5 years that's just a bonus
Too many have been ruined by idiots chucking a 1.8 K Series in em
Hi Matt, fair play to you, as there is not much room in a metro for Sh@gging 🤣 thanks for watching
L890DCK
Tax Due Date: 1st March 2006
That’s a good buy,,,😊
Many thanks NE1
Great video buddy 👍 Think yr right to hold on to this one for at least a few years...its crazy how you'd see them everywhere and now can't remember the last time I saw one in the flesh
Agree I was looking at a clean old 2001 mk4 fiesta the other day thinking the same, they just disappear so quick. Thanks for watching 2 wheel
Love your enthusiasm, keep the vids coming.
Thanks, will do!
what a little beauty I had some driving lessons in the older generation car, future classic for sure 👍🏻
It sure is, lots of people have commented on how they had lessons in a metro, a real everyday British classic
Some had power steering. The Rover 115sd metos for the nhs had power steering as standard.
I have never come across a metro or 100 with power steering 🤔, it must of been a factory special request then if they fitted them to the Rover 115 Diesels,
@@carukchannel Yes they were. They were for the district nurses out on the rounds. Solid white, non turbo and power steering. Great little car.
1:21 i thought you was driving the metro then, and thought the trim didnt look quite right behind the steering wheel. The seats scream rover though
Thanks for watching sketch, there's been a lot of comments from former instructors mentioning there metro's, great to see how popular the were.
And to preserve its value.. definitely going only one way and that’s up !
agree, going to paint in the spring but its currently about to go under cover. thanks for watching
Had a few of these back in the day, great little car & remember the 1st rover metro 1.1 4dr i had at the time was a great performing car compared to the austin metro

Wow, I drove one for seven years, nice car it was, Knightsbridge in red.

I had 2 metro gti's and loved both of them. I always wanted to stick the mgf 160 engine in but never did. Had kids instead 😕🤣
I hated it when I had it but I’d love a drive in it now
thanks for watching ian 👍
@@carukchannel loving the channel pal. Just binging all the videos. Bought my wife an one 54 plate mini. Know anywhere cheap for a spare key?

Get shut of it, jap crap.
Absolute deathtraps those 90's Metros but they are what they are. I reckon if you want a quick flip Project Nigel would be all over this.
Just a heads up but in one of your videos you mentioned about doing a hpi check but I follow a lot of car dealers on TH-cam and they all use a company called car vertical before you ask yes car vertical does sponsor their videos but seriously it’s so much more comprehensive than hpi it really give you a shed load of information if you want to know more try looking at Matt Armstrong’s videos or salvage rebuilds they often get their videos sponsored by car vertical and explain in full how it works it’s simply brilliant, anyway I just thought I would give it a mention as I think you would love it once you’ve tried it
Thanks ian, if they come knocking one day am sure you will see them on the channel 😁👍
*Mat* Armstrong - I can't believe so many people mis-spell his name. I don't even know of any Matts with two "t"s on TH-cam, only Mats with one "t". Mat Armstrong, Mat Watson from Carwow and Mat from Techmoan.
