Anyone notice his little "mmm's" n "aah's" in the little pause after the first kick. That's just awesome.

I met Dennis the day that yellow kit arrived via UPS. He was touring with Santana @ Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD near where he grew up in Baltimore. Before the show he was hanging out near the beer stand talking with some friends & family and I went up & said hello. That night he played a turquoise kit but he told me a new Canary yellow kit just showed up that day. Very cool & friendly guy. Met him twice actually. When I asked him who made him first want to play drums, he replied "James Brown" which came as a surpriseto me bec JB isn't even a drummer. But JB's groves were so rhythmic, so next level, he may as well have been considered a percussionist.

He was also offered the opportunity to play with JB by JB himself, but his mother didn't let him because JB didn't want to pay a private tutor for Dennis (he was still in school back then) while he was on the road.

Some guys aren't meant to teach, you can't blame them, they're made to play and amaze. Same goes with sports, if you're an amazing sporter, it doesn't mean you're a great coach. For them some skills come natural, that aren't for us, that's where the difference is.

A "Master Drummer" can play just about ALL styles equally well (mastered). Ever hear Dennis play Jazz? I am referring to SWINGING a Ride Cymbal while "comping" the bass drum and snare drum.
    "Master Drummer"
