Stephen Kemp ya I saw a video of someone playing piano man on by billy Joel (I think) using her harmonica and piano and I thought I could do that but will my guitar but so far I can’t play the harmonica
@@MitchGrainger-Music-HarmonicaI'm buying a Harmonica because of the movie "once upon a time in the west" staring Charles Bronson. I see a lot of tutorial videos that show the song is literally just 4s & 5s, it's still a little confusing but I'm getting there. Do you think you can do a visual tutorial on how to play it. I'm 41 & it's my favorite western movie so I decided to learn how to play that Harmonica song.
My Dad could play the moothie a bit and whenever Larry Adler came on our radio, Dad would get in the groove again. I suppose back in his day, the mouthorgan was affordable and portable. Keep up your good work, Mitch. You have a great knack of communicating, very droll!

i never knew you could breathe in on the harmonica to create other notes. whoever designed the harmonica is a genius. i play the flute as well and it drains your breath very quickly and it takes years of practice to learn the right techniques to not make it do that. with harmonica, you just play and you never have to stop to breath or anything. you can go forever until your lungs stop working. it makes it very addictive to play

Always wanted a harmonica when I was a kid but never got one. Some friends of mine gave me one for Christmas, best Christmas present I've ever had. Now I want to really learn to play it.
Excellent introduction. Watching and practicing this made for a wonderfully immersive lunch break. I checked out some different harmonica intro videos but yours really did it. Love the way how you started it off showing that you know your stuff - credibility right there, and they're also fun pieces that makes me want to learn. The lesson was just the right amount to be not too hard, not too easy. Looking forward to the next one after I practice for about two weeks. Fun instrument, glad I tried it out. Thank you!
I recently got into playing the harmonica after I lost my first one as a little boy. I recently got a harmonica for Christmas and can't wait to learn how to play!
GREAT video m8. all the other tutorials are either boring or don't give you excersizes to try. I like how you play a little riff there to show us the potential. I will practice and one day be as good as you. you got a new subscriber in me
WOWEEEE!!! Thankyou so much! My Daddy use to blow harp when I was little. I have messed around through the years but have never been able to figure out how to get that bluesy sound. I'm knock..knock...knockin' on SEVENTYS door but I learned more from you today than in all the years I've been blowing. Too boot...I have COPD. If for no other reason I breathe better after blowing the harp for a half hour. THANK YOU SO MUCH MITCH...God bless you and yours. JoAnne from Southwest Ontario Canada.
I just bought a harmonica randomly at Walmart and I won't stop till I'm a harmonica legend. You will all know my name! *Forgets I own a harmonica and loses it*
I just want to say thank you for sharing this with us, you're awesome. I haven't even thought about paying the harp for awhile, but recently I decided that I want to get my kids interested in playing musical instruments, and there is no better way than to show them how rewarding it can be. My vision is having a family bluegrass band, we have a fiddle on the way, and it will take years, but I want to be able to play "Blue moon of Kentucky".
just baught a ten dollar harmonica for the second time. this time im gonna take it more serious. love the videos. watched them years back and followed them up but one day stopped playing. glad you made these videos bro

honestly i have no clue, or even know how i ended up here, i know that i dont have a math test tomrw and i will buy a harmonica soon cause this guy sold me on playing one.
I was ordering guitar and banjo strings from Sweetwater today and on a goof searched harmonica. Now I've got one ordered...lol (Fender Blues Deluxe in C. Cost 12 bucks)
Hello! I just randomly bought a harmonica in Ross for the sake of curiosity. I notice the left side , low note, responds well with the air pressure i apply to it. However, the other half of the harmonica, to the right, does not respond well. I have to blow harder for it to generate the sounds. Is that how the harmonica works or i bought the broken one?
Question. When I try the exercise you're describing at 5:50, It sounds different. The inhale on mine is at a higher pitch than the exhale, while the opposite seems true for you. Why might that be? Are you sliding a few holes over on the exhale to achieve the higher pitch?
I had the same question but I think what he's doing is inhaling through the first three holes, then relaxing his lips so much when he exhales, he blows through the first four holes, and the fourth hole is what's making it sound higher. I still haven't mastered this technique though so I might be wrong.
Cat Greenfield I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM MITCH. CAN YOU ELABORATE HERE. DO YOU THINK IT'S BECAUSE I AM USING A HOHNER MARINE BAND HARP INSTEAD OF THE HOHNER SPECIAL 20? THANKS
I am a beginner and a smoker too, the thing is you breath in and out of it so you need to control your breathe more than to have a huge lung capacity or whatever .. if you like it start, and maybe you'll stop smoking then ;)
literally every other instrument: playing single notes is straightforward, playing chords varies from slightly harder to outright impossible this little thing: can play chords like it's second nature, only seasoned players can play independent notes

Always wanted a harmonica when I was a kid but never got one. Some friends of mine gave me one for Christmas, best Christmas present I've ever had. Now I want to really learn to play it.
2020, learning harmonica, opening sequence is sick!!! So excited
Thank you!
Inherited a blues harp Ms made in Germany and I'm trying to figure out how to play this thing this video is pretty informative thus far
It is a hohner ag
Doing my duke of edinburgh gold qualifier tomorrow. This will make it a bit more fun.

I was trying to make TIK noises for ten minutes with a harp between my lips. Just tell us it's 3 intakes of breath, YOU CANT MOUTH TIK AND INHALE!
***** You don't really breath in on the Tik bit, it's kinda of a slight breath out/break i think
RasterGames lol , i didnt evrn started the engine yet , not even the whistle
+RasterGames I'm still laughing visualizing you lying there on the floor. Sorry.
I thought playing the harmonica was just like whistling and you decide the chords. I decided I should buy one after this.
What am I doing here? I have a harmonica and I’m watching this during my math test!
PFS PLUS underrated comment
This sort of “chain” must continue for the next decade lmao. IYKYK
If I had a penny for every time I’ve seen this type of comment
Here's another reply so your comment would get bumped.
@@HeadWitchDonuts I might have $2.50
I recently got into playing the harmonica after I lost my first one as a little boy. I recently got a harmonica for Christmas and can't wait to learn how to play!
Thank you so much brother! Just starting out, and you made the first step so simple!
Glad to help! :)
Awesome tips on the pucker method! I was having a hard time until watching your video, thanks!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome!!
Glad I could help!
Am I only one that just randomly felt like learning an instrument and bought a harmonica

Maisie McGowan no shit
I just want to say thank you for sharing this with us, you're awesome.
I haven't even thought about paying the harp for awhile, but recently I decided that I want to get my kids interested in playing musical instruments, and there is no better way than to show them how rewarding it can be. My vision is having a family bluegrass band, we have a fiddle on the way, and it will take years, but I want to be able to play "Blue moon of Kentucky".
Hey Jon, Thanks so much, that's awesome. Ps. I'm working up Blue Moon of Kentucky as a jam track/play a long for my website! :)
O.M.G!!!! Isn't that the perfect start to the lesson. Terrific playing
Got a harmonica for Christmas.

(Fender Blues Deluxe in C. Cost 12 bucks)
I just got this thing for Christmas and I found out it doesn't like my mustache
Might have to trim it up off your lip, looks tidier and it’s easier to eat with it trimmed
The harmonica is not alone. Nobody likes moustaches.
@@thedon9670 i do like moustaches
kiss the mustache good bye. if you like the harmonica, why mess up with hairy lips?
Wow so clear so demonstratable totally great and perfect teaching!!!!! thank you, I've tried off and on for much of my 80 years.
Thanks so much!
THANKS
Cat Greenfield could be a different key of harmonica, he is probably playing a C.

I really should quit smoking first :(
Be a good idea, gotta have breathe
Do you have cotton mouth?
I am a beginner and a smoker too, the thing is you breath in and out of it so you need to control your breathe more than to have a huge lung capacity or whatever .. if you like it start, and maybe you'll stop smoking then ;)

Great learning video! How long did it take you to play the Harmonica as fantastically as you do?
It took 6 months to get really playing… then every year I’d add another 10%
literally every other instrument: playing single notes is straightforward, playing chords varies from slightly harder to outright impossible
this little thing: can play chords like it's second nature, only seasoned players can play independent notes
thanks for this lesson. Got me started. Tokoroa New Zealand
