      They make a higher pressure hose for your grill it would be interesting to see if that would add the power it needs 🤔

    I got a 1/4" piece of flat steel scrap from a machine 17x24" threw a farmer friend. I baked it out side in a camp fire overnight to burn off any impurities. I seasoned/cured it and have been using that over my charcoal grill for the last 11 years. If you know a farmer they have this laying around, if you live in the city then you are limited to and controlled by what stores offer.

    Remove the heat shields that cover the burners and it’ll get the griddle even hotter and heats up quickly too. I did this on my Weber Genesis SS330 II! Loving it. But if don’t have a grill yet, just get the 36” blackstone griddle with 4 burners! Although, I do like the fact I still have the regular grilling option with my this type of set up. :)

      Removing the favorizer bars and leaving the grates seems like a happy medium. Thanks for the tip. I've been keeping the lid shut more and it helps too.

    are you still using this? still happy with it? I'm probably going to get one. My patio is not huge and I have NG hookup. I already have: older NG Genesis, Weber Performer, 18" wsm. So I don't need a lot more clutter. It sounds like if I remove the heat-deflector things from the grill, this should fit on it and work well. Friends of mine were telling me that their small Blackstone works well with an NG converter they got (granted NG is lower BTUs, but they said it still basically does fine). But for just some occasional smashburgers and similar, I think the LG is the way to go...

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I still use it and it works great. I also tried out a stand alone two burner flat top griddle, which is easier to use and performs better. I would still go with the LG for anyone that would want to grill most of the time and flat top some of the time

    Interesting didn't know these existed. I just invested in the Weber Crafted Griddle. Not as big space-wise but sits lower and hopefully does better with heating. Also much smaller to store and already has a grease drain system that is designed for the grill.... although I wonder the weber will do long-term with the added grease dumping down. Likely will need a lot more cleaning.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one doesn't have a drain in the grease trough. So it keeps the grill clean. I have another video that experiments on how to get hotter temps with the little griddle, but a shorter one would be closer to the fire and not as big of an issue.

    Got to use my amazon Vevor 23x16" top today for smash burgers and they came out good. I did remove the heat shields on my burners but the problem of grease buildup and general cleaning came up.
    Im thinking about trying the top on my pitboss xl pellet grill as it already has a shield and grooves designed to let the grease flow downward into the bucket
    If it gets hot enough i may go that route since it would be easier clean up. Gona try it on the pellet grill next time around

    • @diecuttingsolutionsinc6745

      Yes - those angled bars kill the direct heat required, un fortunately the flat top will have the best heat where the burners are located, now you will have cold and hot spots on the griddle, ok for small cooks, PIA for large cooks.

    This is exactly what I've been looking into man. I have 2 Weber Kettles so my gasser isn't getting much action at all, and hasn't been for a while. I'd love to turn it into a dedicated griddle for veggies, smash burgers and the like. I've seen this model and several others, but I always wonder about one thing; Can any of them live outside. I don't have the space (or the desire) to take it inside after every cook. Is that model able to stay on your grill all the time?

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it's in your gas grill, it'll be protected by the lid. It's made from stainless steel, so it's just like the grill grates. A lot of people leave their dedicated griddle outside and put a cover on it.

      I haven't had that issue, but the manufacturer warned me about that when I asked them how to get it hotter. I'm guessing people put it on their camp stove without the diffuser or the shut the lid on their gas grill and let it get way too hot. • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right, the low smoke point is the reason why you don't cook with flaxseed oil, but that is also its advantage for seasoning. In order to get the oil to harden it has to link arms with the other oil molecules and that happens over the smoke point. Cooks Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen both suggest using Flaxseed. There are lots of good options out there though.

    • @GrillTopExperience

      @@TangDominates It's hard to keep the temps if it's windy. One subscriber mentioned that you can cover the open parts of the grates with aluminum foil to direct more heat to the griddle and he was able to lower the gas after that MOD.
