1:01:35 I think us viewing people as a whole and not by the last or one decision they make could apply to parents of children as well. I have a lot of grief and guilt with losing my young dog recently. I'm single and in my 30s so my dog was my best friend and my responsibility and I was responsible for his health and wellbeing.
I made some mistakes and didn't act quick enough, or didn't do something to double check. And I've been dealing with a lot of guilt of making a wrong decision, or doing something but not enough or quickly enough to save him. I had accidently cut my dog's foot badly when I was grooming him, and took him to the vet and got him on pain medication. However, he weirdly got a lung infection at the same time and his symptoms he was showing were listed as side effects of his pain medication. If I never cut his foot in the first place, I would have known something was wrong sooner and took him to the vet sooner. I did schedule an appointment when I started to realize I didn't think it was his medication... but it was too late. It all happened within one week and he was gone.
I think the parents of kids on the different podcast episodes, and myself, could give ourselves grace in not judging ourselves on the worst mistakes we made as parents, or fur baby parents, and instead try to judge ourselves as a whole in how well we took care of them. And try to learn from our mistakes and teach people about our mistakes so we can prevent other deaths or accidents in the future.
I want to view myself as a whole as a dog parent, and not by my worst/one mistake of cutting his foot on accident or by my last mistake of waiting for a vet appointment for two days instead of taking him to the emergency room again. I did take care of him and got him to the vet... but people make mistakes. I was great as a whole. And I took care of him very well as a whole for the time I had him. Sometimes things line up horribly straight in the worst way possible to create a tragedy.
Thank you for these videos. I have been doing really poorly many days, and your videos are giving me some perspective and helping me. I also bought Like A River through one of your links yesterday and got it in the mail today. Hopefully, that will help me as well. Thank you.

Losing a beloved dog suddenly is very tragic. But please think about your precious pet; would they want you thinking like this? Or would they want you to honor their life by treating yourself well. You know he wants you to be happy. You did take amazing care of him. Totally understand the ‘what if’s’ but it’s clear from an outside perspective you care greatly about him and you DID take care of him and gave him a great life. Please try to see his whole life and not only the last days.
We went through a similar loss and I know how you feel. It’s been just over two years.
Please try to be as gentle and loving towards yourself as your sweet fur baby would be if he could be here. ❤

I read some of the comments about the perceived lack of empathy by Camille, and i feel you both do a good job of giving space to the Dad to express himself so that he feels understood and validated with his pain snd grief.

I have to write a comment to you guys, I’ve been laid awake with my youngest daughter tonight( who is 6, as she is running a fever) and happened upon your videos, i have shed many tears, listening to your story of your precious Sunni. The listening to the stories of these other beautiful parents opening their hearts and bravely sharing their lives with us. The random people on the internet. I’m a Christian, and I can say that this is a Christ calling. Don’t ever question the weight of what you’re doing, you’re touching hearts, and sharing knowledge and offering comfort to people all across the world. (I’m in Australia) my heart breaks for you, and I have “no words” that wil bring you any semblance of comfort on your loss… but to know that your podcast, this, is having an impact. It doesn’t make the loss any easier to bare… I pray Christ keeps wrapping your family in his love and faith. I know Sunni is so proud of you all. I hope you can continue to stick together, and be comforted in some way by the lord. ❤

This one hit me hard. I almost commented 8 minutes in but I held back because I was crying. But this father could have been describing my son. He is 15 going on 16 he will be 16 in December. Down to the fact that we have a bearded dragon. And it's not our first. His dad who I co-parent with but we have been divorced for 15 years. No issues with the co-parenting he's an amazing father the best father ever I am not just saying that, he really really is, I could not do this without him. He's a police officer. They haven't started hunting yet but his Dad retires in a couple months and they're moving to the mountains and they're looking forward to starting hunting together. Oh I'm going to cry. Been in therapy myself as longas I can remember at least since I was six or seven. And I don't ever want to project upon my son or anyone. He's a lot like me and I'm a very different type of person and I worry.

As a Catholic, I do a lot of contemplation as it relates to Mary. Mary’s Seven Sorrows is an ancient devotion (about 14th Century). When you were trying to find your son it reminded me of the third Sorrow of Mary- that’s where Mary and Joseph were frantically trying to find the child Jesus for three days (Luke 2:44-46). I’ve never lost a child but it’s just my humble suggestion if you’re searching for something healing to think about. Actually the whole Seven Sorrows is food for thought ❤Love from 🇨🇦 Canada.

Camille does not seem to be very empathetic towards the interviewees. I wish she would show some empathy and offer kind words and / or comfort like saying "I'm so sorry" or "you know it's not your fault". When Camille was interviewed, her interviewer was so kind and had her feelings into account every moment. Camille just sits there straight faced without any compassion showing on her face, thru her body language, or in any words of condolences. I just want to reach thru the camera and hug them all. Blake does a much better job showing empathy. Camille needs to be more aware and not just sit there, or move off camera and let Blake do the entire interview.

Also, Blake and Camille do a wonderful job with the podcast and try to handle sensitive topics in a relaxed and loving manner. @@craigkurtzeborn9381pls u understand it’s not your fault , it’s not your fault! I’ve suffered with major depressive disorder since I was also 16, unfortunately 18 years later and previous suicide attempts I’m still struggling with major depressive disorder. The only reason I’m still here now is because a few years back , I made a promise to anyone that has taken their lives before that I’m going to continue to live for them. I know their pain. Don’t ever blame yourself , there is nothing you could have done to prevent it, it’s horrible to say that nothing can prevent it , but it’s true unfortunately. 18 years and nothing has helped me so far . Only recently I’ve been told I could have actually had misdiagnosed adhd all this time and I’m going to get tested for it this Wednesday, please pray for me that it is adhd as if it is , I can finally find the right medication for me and I’ll hopefully be cured 😊 I hope you and your family are feeling better these days & I hope your beautiful son Chase is with God and in peace
