Loving this challenge. I will be playing games with Mike.... barely as those are both great days. If you have monster setup and tear down games you can arrange before hand on multiple tables? Or incorporate setup/take down with meals and snack runs? I would like to see this challenge for a group of 6. How would you split them up? Multiple unmatched games? Plan your day with times and how people would split up and come together.
I would give my favorite deck of cards to have an 8 hour game day. One thing you could do is set a theme for the day and just play games in that theme. Perhaps with some kind of progression. Then you could have milestones in each game that you can strive for that will give you a boon in the next game 🤠👍
I would start off my game day with MEADOW 75 people gathering in seeing all the nice artwork. Then 7 WONDERS 30 for a more thinky but very inclusive since has a high player count. CAESARS EMPIRE 45 similar theme as 7 wonders but easier on the mind and centurion shaped miniatures. ENDLESS WINTER 90. looks good. Has tribe chief miniatures. Then DECEPTION MURDER HONG KONG 20 for something more modern. TELESTRATIONS 35 For more party goodness. DUNE IMPERIUM 90 the second epic game for the night. WINGSPAN 55 To start finishing the night with something familiar. Finishing up with CASCADIA 40 easy going and relaxing.
Really enjoyed this challenge. Especially sitting down and ordering the games for each game day. Fun! If you were a glutton for punishment, you could do a game day using these games to see how many hours it would really take (probably have to split over several days lol). Thanks guys! I’m gonna try to fill my 8h listing the games based on time. 1) Gaia Project on 105min 2) A Feast for Odin on 90min 3) Dune Imperium on 90min 4) Rajas of the Ganges on 60min 5) Istanbul on 60min 6) Dominion on 30min 7) Splendor on 30min 8) Fantasy Realms on 15min Similar to most here, I like my long game day session filled with great games regardless of time. Gaia is the only heavy game really. The way I play Feast, it just feels medium weight similar to Dune and Rajas. Istanbul and Dominion are like my gateway friendly games with light rules. Finally Splendor and Fantasy Realms are my version of party games. 😂😂😎

We always start with our biggest game as well … maybe get one more large before moving to middle games and finishing off with So Clover, Just One or Dixit. But in the real world, we are lucky to get 4-5 games in on an 8-10 hour day! Setup an teardown is my nemesis (also the setup and tear down OF Nemesis)

I thought Mike won this with ginkopolis feast for odin and tidal blades, but nick made it much closer ending on t mars ares and so clover. I think I'm going to go with Mike for the win because of the layout of the entire day was slightly better.

Eight uninterrupted hours is hard to arrange with friends. I'd go for Twilight Imperium, War Room, or the longer scenarios in Mansions of Madness. Finish up with some Ticket to Ride, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Race for the Galaxy. The youtube video would be pretty short though.
Lol you choices split me right down the middle. Nick you got me for most of the day on your team . Just lost me at terra forming Mars . Not sure on that version but . got the origional think from KS . and could never det in to it. Just played the other week. for our games day. Draftosourus, Quacks...! , HoloSaurus , DreamHome, Starship Captains , Brew. in the past did 6 hours consiting of 1 game of FireFly with all expantions.
I think I'd be coming to Nick's game day if I had to make a choice! Awesome video, guys! My game day would be based around 4 players and would look like the following: Planet Unknown (Ease into gaming, fun to play, little to no downtime) Everdell (Jump into something a little heavier to get ready for the game of the day) Dune: Imperium (Main course of the game day) Arboretum (Little break from all the thinkiness of Dune: Imperium) It's a Wonderful World (Same reasoning as Planet Unknown) So Clover! (Little fun wordplay cleansing of the pallet) Nemesis (to finish the day off where it is a little dark and spooky out, and if people die early, they can take off for the night)
Big/time consuming games I'd rather play right off the bat. Many game days we plan, we have now vowed not to start a big game past 8pm because typically we won't finish it before people get sleepy or start wanting to leave to get home. I’m in, on both of the game days, the first four games. I’ve never played. - but I’m game for any bar monopoly (it’s all the house rules!! Errggghh) 5 games in, are / have you included games with expansions, are the expansions in? I’ll watch and wait…. 1 hour 15 left for both. I see no twilight imperium (6 hours is it?) love the bigger games, just no time or people to play with [sad face]. 10 minute game. Fuse! There you go you just said it. All games done, it looks like Christmas has come early.

Thanks Guys! Let the 8-hour gameday begin... Ginkopolis vs Dead Reckoning. I guess Nick does not believe in warming up, just go. He gets some runs on the board early while Mike is thinking 'smarter not harder' and warming up first. Tidal Blades vs Atiwa Mike is getting his team past the warm-up phase and building up some momentum, two of his games = Nick's 1 game. Nick is not letting up and going Euro, can he keep this pace. A feast for Odin vs It's a wonderful world. Bang, Mike has warmed up and is scoring now. Nick's starting pitching is slowing down Earth vs.Terraforming Mars - Ares Mike gets back-to-back big innings and takes the lead. Nick's starting pitcher is in need of some filler relief. Unmatched vs Lllma Land Unmatched was well unmatched while Llama Land must be a leftie. They hold each other from scoring this inning as both teams are gearing up for the late innings. Framework vs Dragon Castle Mike is up by a whole run at this point. The Loop vs Fantasy Rhealms Mike comes in with a big cooperative hitter but Nick's short relief strategy is holding him in check. Solo game idea. Error on Mike. Could cost him. Kites vs On Clover. Nick gets a single combined with that error and ties things up. Project O vs Draft O Sauraus Injury: Nick needs to bring in a Draft pick. No one scores this inning. But Wait There Is more vs Hannimikoji Mike brings in a new pitcher, his closer, we're going to extra innings. A Band of Artichokes. Mike wins it with a walk-off. Next time Nick will warm up but his enthusiasm always brings back the crowds. Oh, that was just spring training.... with more time they got their starting lineups in better order. I would probably lead and end with some shorter fillers as my crowd does not come in at the same time and some leave early but I like having the big games setup to get some curious looks and so I can enjoy the day too Nice picks!
As a lighter-weight/family-weight gamer, I'd like to see a version of this with all lighter to medium weight games. Most of the ones you've chosen are out of my wheelhouse.
Well, since the question asks the best possible game day without exclusion for fantasy....I would love to play a modern game with my dad. He passed away in 2004. He really loved party games from Milton-Bradley and Parker Brothers. I think that I would pick Fireball Island. He would have the most marvelous time meeting my husband and I think we would laugh the whole time. Then I think I would show him Casting Shadows, and relate it to Pokemon, and I think he'd have fun with that, too. And then I'd play with my whole family, Dixit, and he could share his interesting perspectives on the cards. Finally, if there was time, I would play Takenoko just him and me and I know he'd just love it....and so would I.
What bookshelves do you use? They look pretty sturdy. I’m surprised none of the shelves look like they’re bowing. Also, where do I buy the shirt Mike is wearing? I like that design
We use the billy bookcases from ikea. They’ve done well. We did do some extra strengthening because we removed the backs from the shelves but they’ve been solid! And both of our shirts can be bought from the BoardGameGeek store! They have really cool designs for all of their clothes

You know what, so many games but still tough choices :) I am playing with Nick :) but exchange TM to Odin. Also, I'd extend game day a bit to play Earth. Now I am catching a plane . only 20 hours :D
TM too close to IAWW. Thats a miss. Framework a bit thinky to end on. Getting energy in with DW was clutch. Mike wins on content, Nick wins on structure.

Cascadia- 45min (moving from cards to tiles)
Decrypto - 30 mins (get some teams going, rest the brains)
Hues and Cues - 30mins (wind down for lunch)
On Mars - 120mins (to space!)
Champs of Midgard - 90 mins (fully expanded - chucking dice PLUNDER, alternative to Tidal Blades)
Split into two 2p games here
7 wonders duel and maybe Targi? - 30mins (break from the big group)
Diamant - 30 mins (winding down)
Muse - 30mins (back to teams so brains can rest)
Skull - 60mins (because what game night doesnt end with a few drinks and multiple games of skull)

I thought Mike won this with ginkopolis feast for odin and tidal blades, but nick made it much closer ending on t mars ares and so clover. I think I'm going to go with Mike for the win because of the layout of the entire day was slightly better.
I do think we were pretty evenly matched in this one!

Eight uninterrupted hours is hard to arrange with friends. I'd go for Twilight Imperium, War Room, or the longer scenarios in Mansions of Madness. Finish up with some Ticket to Ride, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Race for the Galaxy. The youtube video would be pretty short though.

Lol you choices split me right down the middle. Nick you got me for most of the day on your team . Just lost me at terra forming Mars . Not sure on that version but . got the origional think from KS . and could never det in to it. Just played the other week. for our games day. Draftosourus, Quacks...! , HoloSaurus , DreamHome, Starship Captains , Brew. in the past did 6 hours consiting of 1 game of FireFly with all expantions.
I think I'd be coming to Nick's game day if I had to make a choice! Awesome video, guys! My game day would be based around 4 players and would look like the following:
Planet Unknown (Ease into gaming, fun to play, little to no downtime)
Everdell (Jump into something a little heavier to get ready for the game of the day)
Dune: Imperium (Main course of the game day)
Arboretum (Little break from all the thinkiness of Dune: Imperium)
It's a Wonderful World (Same reasoning as Planet Unknown)
So Clover! (Little fun wordplay cleansing of the pallet)
Nemesis (to finish the day off where it is a little dark and spooky out, and if people die early, they can take off for the night)
Got some absolute bangers in there!

Big/time consuming games I'd rather play right off the bat. Many game days we plan, we have now vowed not to start a big game past 8pm because typically we won't finish it before people get sleepy or start wanting to leave to get home. LOL

I’m in, on both of the game days, the first four games. I’ve never played. - but I’m game for any bar monopoly (it’s all the house rules!! Errggghh) 5 games in, are / have you included games with expansions, are the expansions in? I’ll watch and wait…. 1 hour 15 left for both. I see no twilight imperium (6 hours is it?) love the bigger games, just no time or people to play with [sad face]. 10 minute game. Fuse! There you go you just said it. All games done, it looks like Christmas has come early.
I'm boring. If I get an all-day gameday, I'm just going to pick the hardest game in my collection for me to table - for complexity, length, and capriciousness: Arkham Horror (2e)

Mike is getting his team past the warm-up phase and building up some momentum, two of his games = Nick's 1 game. Nick is not letting up and going Euro, can he keep this pace.

Mike comes in with a big cooperative hitter but Nick's short relief strategy is holding him in check.

Injury: Nick needs to bring in a Draft pick. No one scores this inning.

Mike wins it with a walk-off. Next time Nick will warm up but his enthusiasm always brings back the crowds.
Oh, that was just spring training.... with more time they got their starting lineups in better order.
I would probably lead and end with some shorter fillers as my crowd does not come in at the same time and some leave early but I like having the big games setup to get some curious looks and so I can enjoy the day too Nice picks!

As a lighter-weight/family-weight gamer, I'd like to see a version of this with all lighter to medium weight games. Most of the ones you've chosen are out of my wheelhouse.
We should absolutely do a "newer to the hobby gameday" challenge and do a bunch of those lighter games. Good Call!

Well, since the question asks the best possible game day without exclusion for fantasy....I would love to play a modern game with my dad. He passed away in 2004. He really loved party games from Milton-Bradley and Parker Brothers. I think that I would pick Fireball Island. He would have the most marvelous time meeting my husband and I think we would laugh the whole time. Then I think I would show him Casting Shadows, and relate it to Pokemon, and I think he'd have fun with that, too. And then I'd play with my whole family, Dixit, and he could share his interesting perspectives on the cards. Finally, if there was time, I would play Takenoko just him and me and I know he'd just love it....and so would I.

We use the billy bookcases from ikea. They’ve done well. We did do some extra strengthening because we removed the backs from the shelves but they’ve been solid!
And both of our shirts can be bought from the BoardGameGeek store! They have really cool designs for all of their clothes
