Here’s my ranking of all the campaigns (I’ve only played Path to Carcosa)

The most hilarious thing about timing in Insmouth for me was when a Rogue with Obol died in flashback scenario. It looked like his character recollected that he was playing these two scenarios in present being already dead. As though Arkham story is written by Shyamalan :)

My take on the writing in EotE is to play a drinking game with it. Whenever it says “miasma”, drink one drop of alcohol, then die of alcohol poisoning by the end of it.

You were almost right with the endings for Hemlock Vale (SPOILERS):
    1. The "standard"/bad ending is running from the Vale, you can always select this.
    2. The ending you got in the rerun is unlocked by either having Marquez have a plan (aka: play The Longest Night) or having a high relationship with Gideon.
    3. The "Save the Vale" ending: Have either William and River make up or have the Peters family reunite.
    4. Burn the Vale down: Follow Simeon's story and set the fireworks.

    8. Scarlett Keys
Lets see where we align then!

My true solo / two-handed solo campaign rankings:
    1. Innsmouth - I love just about everything. The finale is still easy in solo, but not terribly easy.
    2. Dunwich - straightforward fun.
    3. Carcosa - best mechanics, I don’t like the story.
    4. Scarlet Keys - Most of the common complaints don’t bother me much. My most recent play found an ending I didn’t know existed and it was one of my favorite story moments in AHLCG.
    5. Only played once, the “worst” scenarios didn’t seem that bad to me and Threads of Fate didn’t seem that great, but I’ll need more runs to solidify an opinion.
Distant 6. EotE - I actually like the first four scenarios decently well but I have not enjoyed the ending 3 scenarios in any of my runs.

So I have what might be considered a wild take on the Scarlet Keys. The answer is to read more haha. I think this campaign was built with the characters fleshed out in the secrets in scarlet “prequel” book. I think they forgot that most people aren’t going to read this. I read before I played and I enjoyed it bc I desperately wanted to see what happened to these characters. I realize that this is obviously not the right choice for most people but if you want to enjoy TSK, I highly suggest checking out Secrets in Scarlet.

I like the concept of Scarlet Keys, but there were very few scenarios, too many locations were just a small bit of text and then you kept going, so the world feels less interactive. The final scenario and RNG stuff is pretty terrible, too. If they could take that world map openness and make a good campaign out of it, I would be down to play it through multiple times.

Both the campaign guide and the dossiers point you in the direction where to find the Cotorie members, so I personally don't get this complaint. A more visual indication on the map would be nice and better overall, but I don't think it's ruins the campaign. But I'm also in the camp of not getting why Scarlet keys gets so much hate as it does. Would much rather play it over Dunwich or Dream Eaters.

@@TheShanicpower A few things. First, it's really, really challenging. Second, the scenarios are mechanically interesting. Third, the storyline is vibrant and interesting, especially with 'Return to', which really fleshes out the witches' side of the story. We love playing with the tarot cards. We enjoy the variety of paths you can take. And it makes us want to play with different investigators, just to see how different investigators may affect things. I like TFA for similar reasons - vibrant story, extremely challenging, throws you for a loop with certain scenarios, creating reliably memorable experiences.

Finished Scarlet Keys for the first time.. first time 3handed with Rex Murphy, Runic Axe.. I mean, Daniella Reyes and Kymani (forget their free 5xp) Jones.. only got 5 of the missions out of the 10.. and only 1 mission left me salty for ticking over before I could do anything.. - there was definitely a couple missions where they seemed to forget some text that as written made the scenario bugged… - like find 4, but only 3 are available - whether that was the intention 🤔
Got DE up next., and 3 handed means I need to build 6 decks - maybe no repeated classes 🤔

The changes we follow are on the Return To scenario cards. Notably, these two which are easy to remember: In Miskatonic Museum, the front text of the agendas is always active. In Where Doom Awaits, you can place the additional locations into play when you discover a clue on the hub locations. Spend the clues when you do that.

    • @halforange1
      @halforange1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think that’s because of how logistically challenging TSK was to design. But yeah, it’s disappointing that her enthusiasm doesn’t align with the community’s reaction to TSK.

    • @DrMcFly28
      @DrMcFly28 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@halforange1my take is that the TSK campaign was probably much more fun to design then to actually play. Unfortunately the end result us what counts, not the amount of effort put into it, and as big of a fan I am of MJ, I would have kinda expected at least a little humility and self-awareness concerning the cycle's obvious shortcomings, at least in an "it's ambitious, but perhaps not everyone's cup of tea" way.

Here's my list with some short notes, hope you appreciate it.
    1. Innsmouth - my personal favorite, In Too Deep is the best
    2. Hemlock - love the MegaMan structure, excellent return to form for the game
    3. Forgotten Age - very challenging, all around fun
    4. Carcosa - the best story, not crazy about half of the scenarios
    5. Dream Eaters - breezy, fun scenarios with big XP payouts, also cats
    6. Edge - has gotten better with time, I've gotten over its shortcomings
    7. Dunwich - played it to death, it shows its age and that's OK
    8. Circle Undone - truly over it, most scenarios have really annoying aspects I don't care for
    9. Scarlet Keys - fails at every aspect of it, way too ambitious for its own good, probably won't ever play it again

For things like this it might be better to discuss the cycles as they were released but do not give your exact rating. Just comments like "one of my favorites", or "I don't like this one". Then at the end show the rankings for everyone. That way you don't need to go back and forth and cover the same cycle three times and we can try to guess the ratings as you go along.
