Thanks for watching everyone! Some of you have pointed out historical figures prior to Galen. I'm aware, we had it scripted, but I chose to cut that out of the video since we were already at 16 minutes by focusing on more recent times. I may explore "history of ancient surgery" and explore the times prior to what's included in the video here.

Sushruta is considered the “Father of Plastic Surgery.” He lived in India sometime between 1000 and 800 BC, and is responsible for the advancement of medicine in ancient India.
During the 6th Century BCE, an Indian physician named Sushruta - widely regarded in India as the 'father of surgery' - wrote one of the world's earliest works on medicine and surgery.

Everyone knows your local retail pharmacist, but we have a huge presence in hospitals across the country as well! 👍❤️🙏😊 P.S. pathologist and radiologist have Very important work behind the scenes. These physicians basically tell other doctors that things are good or the patient needs an intervention..surgery, chemo, medication, etc...these are doctors’ doctors and their pay reflects this. Just some of many examples of the healthcare workers they play very important parts without creating a public presence. Just FYI, things to think about. 🙏❤️😊

An interesting and well-done overview of the History of Surgery. However, you erred in one area. The biggest advancement that made surgery possible is the introduction of anesthesia. The field of anesthesia did not begin with ether and chloroform. Instead, it originated with nitrous oxide which was introduced to medicine by two dentists, Wells and Morton.

Their owners (the ones watching) did NOT want them to get hurt. MOST GLADIATOR FIGHTS WERE NOT TO THE DEATH. They worked somewhat similar to counting cu that the natives did, except a little more violently.

I thought you would be particularly interested in the Father of Plastic Surgery: Sushruta, who has done cataract, brain, and transplant surgeries and recorded them in his book Sushruta Samhitha as early as 800 BC.

While I recognize that it is impossible to cover the entire history of surgery in a short video, I think you could have touched on how some major advancements in surgery were due to discoveries made during slavery. For example, Dr. James Marions Sims (father of modern gynaecology) performed many experimental and painful surgeries on enslaved black women and girls. I share this because often the history of racism in medicine is over looked. Acknowledging this history will allow us to work to current address current inequalities in medical access.

School 1 does a lot of research but is almost 2x the cost of school 2 that does very little research. With step 1 now pass/fail my guess in order to be competitive, research is important. Should cost factor into my decision? 57 K vs 32 K. Should I find research outside of school is that considered ok? Would be interested in your opinion

Many interesting points :) I find your work to usually be very thorough but there's a glaring gap here.
To jump from the Greeks to the Renaissance ignores massive contributions by Arab/Persian/Jewish physicians under the Islamic Empire.
In particular, Al-Zahrawi is considered the 'father of modern surgery' is his own right. And the anatomical contributions of other physicians from the Islamic Empire cannot at all be ignored.
Hard to be thorough on a subject as vast as this, but you're not remotely doing it justice without those vital mentions, in my humble opinion

The Islamic Golden Age predates the Renaissance, and many of the medical and scientific achievements originated from the Islamic Golden Age. A prime example is the basic anatomy of the human discovered by ibn Sina

@@gamertime2595 I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth. I am proud to tell you that we have gathered in our bosom the purest remnant of the Israelites, who came to Southern India and took refuge with us in the very year in which their holy temple was shattered to pieces by Roman tyranny. I am proud to belong to the religion which has sheltered and is still fostering the remnant of the grand Zoroastrian nation.
I will quote to you, brethren, a few lines from a hymn which I remember to have repeated from my earliest boyhood, and which is every day repeated by millions of human beings:
As the different streams having their sources in different places all mingle their water in the sea, so, O Lord, the different paths which people take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee.
The present convention, which is one of the most august assemblies ever held, is in itself a vindication, a declaration to the world of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita:
Whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach them; all are struggling through paths which in the end lead to Me.
Sectarianism, bigotry, and its horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful earth. They have filled the earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed civilization and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society would be far more advanced than it is now. But their time is come; and I fervently hope that the bell that tolled this morning in honor of this convention may be the death-knell of all fanaticism, of all persecutions with the sword or with the pen, and of all uncharitable feelings between persons wending their way to the same goal.
