    Here is an update on the cabin air filter situation. A few days after the video was made I brought it to a car service. They did the same thing I did and looks in the same places that I had mentioned in the video NO Cabin Air Filter Was Found... Next, someone had make a comment on this video showing thst it is possible to clean up the the black thing I was touching but I would have to remove the entire frount dash bord and that just a waste of my time. Thankyou for commenting and asking questions but I have come to the conclusion that I don't have an cabin filter. Let me know if you still want me to look in any other places and I'll make a video for it if others would like it aswell. Untill next time all.

      Its behind the center console. Remove the carpet in the driver side, when thats done the filter is found to the right of the gas pedal between the engine and the center console

      The 1999/2000 Camry did not come with the air filter and there is no spot to insert it into. They were designed without the option to have them. The area you touched is the blower motor and return air inlet for the recirculating air option (inside air). Those are just open to the air in the cabin and are not filtered. Starting in 2001 they included these as standard.

    • @TheCrystalGlow
      @TheCrystalGlow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It baffles me that other cars of this era have them and it is nothing to include them but they still got excluded. Would have loved to be able to used the carbon activated filters for some clean smelling air for once. It’s been reduced to what smells like already been sucked-on sunflower seeds and is disgusting. This is just from normal use over the years

    Cabin Filter Replacement: Toyota Camry 1997-2001. Our research indicates that your vehicle does not have a cabin air filter (also known as a pollen or AC filter). ... This mesh is part of the vehicle and does not need to be changed.

    There is no cabin air filter these models did not have it until after 2001 the only thing they have are metal screens in each individual air vent to prevent debris from flying in your face if you are experiencing low air pressure out of the screens are most likely clogged up and need to be removed you could do that by removing each vent looking down it with a flashlight and taking out a the screens

    If you want to replace the lightbulb for your glove box, Pull the switch cartridge out toward you. Then tip it over so you're looking at the bottom. It's a little tiny lightbulb that pushes into a slot there. It's right in the switch assembly.

    I just looked through my 99’ Camry in those two spots. The one by the glove box and by the foot rest. I believe the video that showed the foot rest was a right hand drive Camry. I pulled back the carpet from the passenger side by the console and discovered a false air filter where there would have been one. Mine is part of the plastic mold, but that would also imply that some models or different years might actually have one there. It's worth a look and easy to get at. My 99' Camry is also the Japanese version.

    People are saying that the 3rd and 4th gen camrys don't have a cabin filter, while this is correct, they CAN and do have the mounts for cabin filters - early model 92-93 camrys will have a cover beside the driver's pedal (for RHD models the cover might be on the left side of the driver's footwell) - peel back the carpet by the velcro squares to not damage the liner, (for LHD models) remove the plastic cover, then the cover for the cabin filter slot will be right there, secured by two tabs at the top and a retaining loop at the bottom. Take off this cover, and the slot is right there, waiting for a filter to go in. Just be sure to clean out 20+ years of crud there.
    For 94 onwards, they changed the AC unit - if the unit uses white ABS plastic instead of black, you will need to cut out the slot. In place of the slot is an indent of plastic that has blocked it off - this indent is actually narrower than the filter, so you will need to cut out a hole approx 2mm from the edge of the line that goes around the slot that helps to form a seal with the cover. Use a dremel to get some holes where you can then stab a box cutter in. It's hard work, but using the dremel is awkward and you'll end up melting the plastic and spraying melted plastic everywhere and it'll also get on the dremel.

    • @X11CHASE
      @X11CHASE ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re melting the plastic with the rotary tool, that means you have the speed too high and being impatient. Same concept as avoiding sparks when using the cutting wheel bit against metal.

    Cabin or pollen filter is on driver side. Pull back carpet next to foot rest and the white plastic hub you see under the carpet holds 2 filters. Unplug the harnesses connected to it and look to the right side of the hub. There should be a straight up and down plastic door to Pop off and the filters are in there.

    Did you find it? Unless you did, I think I'm starting to now understand why no one seems to know. There really isn't a "cabin air filter" per se' on the USA Camrys. What there is is the foam thing you touched in the video.... it's a non-replacable foam intake filter for the fan's intake. This is so the fan doesn't become filthy and get out of balance and make noise. The foam may also provide somewhat cleaner cabin air, but that's not really its purpose. A cabin filter should be made out of the same celluloid fibers the engine's air filter is made outta. Please let me know if you ever did find a replaceable cabin filter. That would mean I'm barkin' up the wrong tree.

    There is NO CABIN AIR FILTER. If there was, it would be listed in the owner's manual. Recommend that you remove the blower motor & squirrel cage & clean the squirrel cage, even with bleach & q-tips. It was packed with leaves & the motor burned out. Then the chipmunks put acorns inside a couple of times. At least vacuum it out. (The chipmunks also chew the engine air filter & the firewall insulation). If you can find where the corresponding Lexus model for the same year had it mounted you may be able to modify the duct and install a filter!

Also, I checked on Napa Auto Parts and on Auto Zone and they both have zero filters that will be an exact fit. But once I changed the year of the Camry to 2002, both Auto Zone and Napa had the exact fit for the cabin air filter. Based on my research, I don't believe Toyota made cabin air filters in the Camry prior to 2002.

      I have pictures for the Lexus ES300; not for the Toyota Camry. The 4th generation of Toyota Camry (1997 - 2001) did not come with a cabin filter. It does come with the filter box, but Toyota sealed up this area that held the filter. The Lexus ES300 (also manufactured by Toyota) has the same filter box as the Camry, but the Lexus has the filter. In order to get the filter to work in a Camry means you have to make some modifications to the car by cutting out the area that was sealed up. It will be covered by a cover.

    Well Nathan. You didnt find it because it does not exist in that models year..kinda lame but yeah. Camry's always seem to place the cabin filter behind the glove box and have a little hatch in later years to access them.

  • @jio8520
    @jio8520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Nathan, I know for a fact the caban air filter was started to be put in behind the glove starting in 2001 and later. I have a 2000 Camry le. The actual system is the very fine mesh below the wiper arms to keep the debris out of the HVAC. A cabin filter is a better system. Unfortunately morons designed these early model's. So one good thing we save on a part lol. I'm basically an American car owner. Took this Camry over from my mom who got too old. Low mileage and a good second car. My main car is a mint 2006 300. Cabin filter is right there against my fire wall. Takes about three minutes to do. Switch over to k&n. Lifetime man. Worth the extra cash. Just have to maintain it once a year. So I hope these fact helped.

      Hi, would the Camry 2001 model have a cabin filter by any chance? If yes, where would it be located?

    • @jio8520
      @jio8520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TruthSeekerAll hello, if they started to put them in for the 2001 model then it's behind the glove box. You may have to take a few screws out to drop the box. It would be in like a tray with a snap down door to expose the filter. Best thing is go to the auto part store and let them look it up in the computer. The 2000 is not in the system cause it doesn't have one. If your year does it will show. The filter is pretty slim if you have one. If not then it's the black outside mesh along the wiper arms. Just keep that clean of debris. No need to take it apart.

    I just went through most of what you went through although the users manual says behind the glove box. I managed to get it out (broke the 2 stoppers after repeated removal and putting it back) and there appears to be no filter unless it is where you had your hand at 3:10
    Mine is a 2001 or 2002 (not sure) model so maybe they started putting filters after 2001 or 2002.

Ask me how I know. LOL Anywho, even dealerships and dealer techs do not know about this. In other countries the Camry is the high end luxury Toyota model and they install them there. Good luck all!

Fits my Solara 2000.There are 2 screws that holds the canister that I was able to remove by a wrench. I lowered my tail pipe and muffler(necessary) to pass the canister. Just make sure you tag the hoses so as not to interchange them later. Code P0466 gone now since October. This is also the best time to change the exhaust pipes if needed.

    The air filter is on the side of the gas pedal. Not on the side near the door. Also not behind the glove box. You need to pry off the carpet. After you pry off the carpet, you will see a plastic cover to the air filter at the very front Its quite hard to get to. Remove the cover and pull out the filter.

    Not knowing what you're doing can get you hurt sometimes. Those yellow wires behind the airbag are for the for just that! There is a procedure for rendering the system safe. Did you at least unhook the battery? You had your face/body too close for my comfort! If that had somehow gone off (and they have) you'd be dead or pretty sorry. Go out and get yourself a nice manual! For 20 or so bucks you won't have to ask others that don't know much either! When ever I buy any car new or used it's the first thing I go out and buy! When you pause on 3:54, there's a little tab with a screw on it that hangs under the plastic on the right side. It appears that if you were to cut the black plastic, you could get to it, but I really have no way of confirming it. When cross-referencing the video of the Japanese version ( th-cam.com/video/64xEvX2ogyo/w-d-xo.html ), that guy's cabin air filter at 2:11 matches up to this location. I'm pretty sure they didn't leave it out. Who knows why they did it? I may do a little investigating myself. Mine smells like pollen and its making me sick! Thanks for the vid.
