I’m 51 years old and only in the last year have I finally realized the reason I have struggled to look good in pants my whole life, even though I’m thin and very fit, is because I have a very long rise and long torso! Weight has so little to do with looking good in clothes!! It’s ALL about proportion. This is the ONLY video I have ever seen that addresses this issue with pants/long rise. Usually stylists just discuss body shape (apple, pear, etc) but they always show examples of those shapes with proportional bodies/long legs.
I’m 5’5.5 so a little taller than petite but my legs are basically the length of a petite woman. I think petite should relate to leg length not just height! Thanks so much for your videos and helpful tips!!

My grind with the flare leg style is that more often than not, they have to be styled with heels. And I am not comfortable in anything beyond kitten heels. Also it is not always possible to wear those too.

I also think pocket placement plays a big part in how well the pants fit. I have short legs and thicker thighs and I avoid side pockets and lower placed pockets on the rear.

    • @PrairieGirlio
      @PrairieGirlio 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

I agree. I find Tommy Bahamas small rear patch pockets make my butt look awful in so many ways- large and frumpy. Levis pocket size and placement is ideal. I always get the side pockets sewn closed and removed on chinos and dress pants (and dresses) it makes for a much cleaner line and removes the bulk (and show) of the pocket lining.

Good video, CHI! I used to think I look bad in all pants. But after watching your videos for years, with trial and error , I have a few pair of pants that look very good and feel very comfortable for me. I got rid of all my skinny , tapered leg pants. I tried all different tops and ways to wear them, it just doesn't work on my 5'4" frame with average length legs. I love boot cut best as it is flattering and easy to wear with many type of shoes. Flare legs are fun, but when the flare is big and the fabric is stiff, there is so much weight on the bottom, it is not as easy to look balanced on a short person. Straight leg pants can be tricky. If the legs are skinny straight, they are similar with skinny pants, shoe choices are limited , especially in summer. And the length can't be too long as they will pool on top of the shoes due to the narrow leg opening.

Tapered leg pants are my best look. I have hip dips which makes every other style of pants look very unflattering on me, it do wear skinny fit pants but always with a peplum style top or a half tuck tunic to drape the sides over my hip dips. I have a perfect hour glass shape but the hip dip makes it look weird so tapered pants does a fantastic job in revealing the hourglass figure

Pants rarely work on my straightish shape. My hips and thighs are just too skinny, there are always stupid-looking empty flaps of fabric at the hips and thighs - they look like clown pants. I can’t size down more, they won’t close at the waist. If the pants are a softer fabric without flat-felled seams, side zippers or pockets, I can sometimes take them in, but jeans and the vast majority of trousers can’t be altered this way. Pants are so uncomfortable anyway, they always ride up because my waist is set very high, my ribs sit right on my hipbones. I love the comfort of skirts and dresses. Today I’m wearing a brown pleated skirt and sweater merino set from Lily Silk, I’m so comfy and warm (with knee-high socks, I’ll add boots to go out).

    • @Hello-pp3hl

      - Spanx
      - high rise underwear (to remove the extra horizontal line)
      - high rise pants that keep the tummy in
      - big belts
      - wear same colour top and bottom to hide the horizontal line. Example black top with black pants or light top and light pants
      - a line skirts and dresses are great because they flare from the waist and hide the belly
      - shirt dresses with leggings are good too because you can get that 2/3 dimension on the bottom half instead of the top half
      - long jacket/blazer

I understand how you feel. I'm 5' tall. It's kind of hard to explain but I use a button with a hair rubber band on the back of some of my tops. I put the loose button (about 3/4 " size) at my waist in the middle of my back on the inside of the shirt or jacket and from the inside I wrap the button with the fabric and put the rubber band on it. From the outside it looks like a little tiny hole with sun ray pleats. It just gives it a really nice look. I still feel covered but it gives a nice hour glass shape from behind. I hope this makes sense.

Here is the thing I'm a 16 years old girl, and I am already slimm, but have a lot of chest, wide shoulders, small waist, thin arms, asymmetric body (shorter torso compared to my very long legs) for better idea I'm 5'2 5'3, I'm hourglass because my shoulder is the same with my hips, legs start big at first and then gets progressively small on to my knees, and my calves are bigger but still small compared to my hips and the start of legs, and then I have pretty big toes for my size (I'm a 7 in high classic convers)
I would say I look more like a korean hourglass type of body.
But with a Latina vibe ( I'm Afro Latina)
I don't like high wasted pants because I already have a pretty short torso.
And I don't like low wasted jeans because I also have full butt, so you can imagine😂

I ordered jeans from petite dressing and was VERY disappointed. They are at least 4 inches too long . I thought the whole point of the shop was to fit petites !

What I keep hoping for is the reintroduction of mid-rise pants in the stores for all pants. High rise just doesn’t look good on me because I have a short waist and big boobs. High rise pants make me look like nothing but boobs and pants, like those old men who wear their pants hefted up to their armpits! For me, mid-rise boot cut or flare pants are a go-to because I am curvy and have very large calves from working out. Even straight leg pants look too tight on my legs. And don’t get me started on the skinny leg pants phenomenon! Being short makes shopping a chore sometimes! Haha

What?! Trousers look AMAZING with sneakers. You just need to wear the right sneaker. Also, you say, other than skinny and tapered styles all other style pants need to be long enough to cover the shoe to look best on petites. Why then, in the clothing line you developed and "guarantee to make you look better" if your petite, did you design a linen blend jump suit with wide legs that doesn't cover the shoe? 🤔

Not such a good demo. I suspect that had you been wearing the same heels you wore in the flattering pants,, with the not so flattering your point wouldn't have been so clear. I think it's more complex than this.

I’m with you: I find leggings very unattractive on most women, either with skinny legs or heavy legs.
