Quite amazing to see these iconic toys from our childhood being restored to their original glory. It's very evocative to see them again, and they were very good quality. It's no wonder they have had a hard life, they were always very well played with!!
I've cut out all the other resto. Channels but Marty's & Baremetal's they are the only ones worth watching to me. It's like the others don't really respect what they're trying to achieve.
Well done! Love the 3-D printer, it's such a handy tool. I'm surprised you don't do more of your own accessories instead of ordering them. You're really good at the virtual designing portion.
06:06 - The rear tyre that was on the tractor was, in fact, a CORGI truck tyre. Lesney tyres were always polythene of a very tough formulation. CORGI used soft rubber, which perished or went brittle after several years. Matchbox tyres were almost indestructible - the annoying thing, though, is that, for some reason, the rims shrink, and the tyre becomes loose. I find UHU glue is the best thing to secure the tyre. Spread round the wheelrim, and leave to get tacky, and do the same to the inside of the tyre. When both are tacky to the touch, fit together. They'll stay together. Superglue does not adhere well to polythene, and will leave a white bloom on the plastic. The finished tractor and trailer look awesome. Great work! Thanks for sharing.
Now this is exactly where I'd suggest the microblaster. It's not very awesome for wide-area paint removal, but for getting into corners and small details, it's top-notch, and doesn't risk scratching up the model with an ill-placed movement.
Marty, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed discovering your channel. I grew up in the 60s and have / had many of the match boxes I've seen you work on. AND, I hand painted them! You've now given me hope that I MIGHT try my hand at restoring them to their semi-original condition. And, even if I choose to not take that on, in part for lack of tools, I'll still enjoy thinking about restoring them! Good day!
Another great (and ingenious) resto.! I think you'll find that a decent pair of precision cuticle/nail scissors will allow you to trim off that floss and stray flashing quickly and neatly. Can't wait for the next one! 👍
I'm surprised that the wheels were in such good shape. With the tires missing and so much of the paint gone, you'd think the wheels would have been all scratched up and gouged. Nicely done as always!
These videos are so relaxing to watch, like Bob Ross but with Matchbox models. I got a box full of Matchbox and Dinky Toys I "restored" (read: ruined) as a kid and I've finally started getting the materials together to properly restore them.
I'm not a collector, but I love watching things get restored back to "like new" condition. And, mate, you're one of the best. I especially love your little jokes casually placed in the vids. Like the nail through the thumb. Fantastic all around!
if you want to smooth out your PLA prints, you can prime them with regular acrylic or enamel paint, and sand. It takes the paint really well. I print mostly only in white PLA and then paint to the exact colors I want.
Marty
Your final reveal shots put a smile on my face
The use of the magnet is a very good Idea!
Glad to see you using parts from the mother country!

Over the top Marty!
Can't get enough of this stuff.
Thumbs up for using the thumb for storing nails, great place for keeping them.
Nail through the thumb was a nice touch! I still have all my Matchbox cars; you're bringing back so many memories, thank you.
When it comes to Matchbox makeovers, you sir, are the Royal Navy (circa the Napoleonic Wars). No one comes close.
THANK YOU...for sharing. Simply fantastic!

Great work on the steering wheel and barrels......They came up a treat.
I like how the newspapers you use in your spray booth are often relevant to the content
I have heard that Matchbox cars really love Marty because of all the restoration he does to them, making them feel all good about themselves again.
Is it just me or does anyone else get a little over excited when a new M.M.M shows up in your notification list ?

I'm surprised that the wheels were in such good shape. With the tires missing and so much of the paint gone, you'd think the wheels would have been all scratched up and gouged. Nicely done as always!

Another great job there, Marty. What's more, your video is as entertaining as it is informative, and was a wonderful thing to watch.
There's a zen like quality to these. Such a small, non essential thing to spend such an inordinate amount of time and energy on.

if you want to smooth out your PLA prints, you can prime them with regular acrylic or enamel paint, and sand. It takes the paint really well. I print mostly only in white PLA and then paint to the exact colors I want.
Really nice work! You nailed the 3D parts! Nice.
Your wife might need to borrow that dental kit after what you did with her toothbrush 🤣🤣
