Anyway, Today we talk about why Gamefreak is about to freak stuff up by doing the unthinkable: returning to an old battle gimmick - MEGAEVOLUTION. I'll be breaking down my hopes and hottest takes for Pokemon Legends AZ following its announcment on Pokemon Day.

In the Kalosian War History section I made an OOPSIE. AZ made the ultimate weapon to revive his Floette. After reviving his Floette he was still mad so he turned it into the Ultimate Weapon. Also, AZ used Xerneas/Yveltal's energy to power the Ultimate Weapon. Can't believe I messed that up lol. WHOOPIEDOOSIE.

No confirmation of the legendary pokemon *being used by AZ*. However, I think it did state that millions of pokemon were killed to revive Az's floette. I think Lysander used one of the legendary pokemon to get the most power quickly.
@squiblier that would make sense bc Floette would have a sort of "survivors guilt" and would have to go on its own 3000yr journey to be able to forgive AZ or something of the sorts

Sycamore says to the player in Anistar., "Let's talk about Mega Stones briefly. My theory is that they're special stones irradiated by the light--the energy of the Legendary Pokemon Yveltal/Xerneas--fired from the ultimate weapon 3,000 years ago." Sycamore seems to have concluded that the legendaries are the source of the energy.
Lysandre, a descendant of AZ's brother, who has knowledge of the workings of the Ultimate Weapon, seems to also know that the legendary is needed to power the Weapon. So i think its a pretty reasonable inference to make that AZ needed to use the power of Xerneas/Yveltal to power the weapon 3,000 years ago. However, there is also Route 10.
Multiple NPCs on Route 10 talk about the stones Mythology and one even mentions the strange energy that Colress detected coming from it. It's not untill we defeat Bryony and Celosia that we find out that the stones themselves steal the energy from Pokemon. "That's right. The Stones on Route 10 normally put out energy, but when the Ultimate Weapon is activated, that reverses and they begin to absorb energy from Pokemon."
It seems to me that the stones are then some sort of antenna or amplication device used for the Ultimate Weapon. Xerneas and Yeveltal 'power up' from the infinity energy taken from Pokemon around them and then from there X/Y can be used to power the weapon. It's not super clear though. Why are X/Y middle men for the Infinity energy transfer? Are they actually? Many unanswered questions. Hopefully we will get some answers in Legends ZA!
I figured the delta episode from ORAS implied that every game turned on was a new timeline and so there are infinite timelines. Then USUM back this up with rainbow rocket coming from other timelines where the player never beat the evil team. Scarlet and Violet doubled down on infinite timelines with the professor going to another timeline and paradox pokemon coming to the players timeline
I mean this is technically true. It is implied there are infinite realities and timelines, however, that's not what I'm discussing. I'll be more explicit about it in my next video and clarify more ig.
What I'm talking about is the distinct narrative continuity timelines that players actually play. Like the timelines the present player character is in in any given game given the evidence provided in game. My whole argument is basically that Game Freak does not provide adequate evidence clearly explaining which narrative continuity the player is in which will lead to potential confusion as Game Freak, since PLA, has introduced a lot of character story threads that interacted across space and time AND POTENTIALLY timelines but it is hard to know for sure. Therefore i think they are going to solidify which specific narrative continuity the following games are in as to remove any confusion for the player. Legends ZA is the perfect opportunity for this imo. My next video will be running through the evidence for different narrative timelines and clearly establishing them.

Big fan of these videos! I'd love to see some more of your thoughts on Z-A, a ton of potential for theorycrafting here. And your wilder theories are also a ton of fun. Though within that discussion, the connection to PLA could actually have larger consequences than just the same timeframe. What if Volo returns as a secret boss? he could act as the main antagonist of the entire legends series if it keeps up. Maybe instead of relying on Giratina, he uses Yveltal? I dunno, I feel like him as a postgame boss could become a staple, always recruting the "evil" legendary of the region to somehow get back at arceus.
This drifted into somewhat fan-ficy territory, but you get the gist of it! Would love to hear your thoughts on some more out there stuff like this. Could make for some entertaining stuff.
volo coming back would be a dream but i wouldn’t want him to keep using the ‘evil’ legendaries, mainly because that makes them evil lol. giratina isn’t evil, they just hate arceus and its creation. humans are so far beneath giratina that they probably think of us like germs. yveltal is just as good and necessary as xerneas, just because death isn’t as pretty as life doesn’t mean that it should be treated with any less reverence. then if their is a johto game who gets to be branded as evil? i’d assume lugia because of their history with humanity, but lugia has never chosen to harm humans, we’re just so fragile that they can’t help it. i like the legendaries to remain unknowable forces of nature with goals that go beyond humanity, not just good v evil.

Side note I've always thought that the Legendaries in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire ( get it ZA and Omega Alpha) were more connected to Kalos than first appearance. Not only cause they're a Red Blue and Green Trio that represent life/ water and death/fire and guardianship/balance but also because Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon start to look more like Xerneas and Yveltal
Specifically the colors and also in pieces like Groudon's tail being like Yveltal tail or kyogre's fin pattern resembling the antlers on xerneas

This has honestly been THE video that made the most sense regarding Z-A to me. Especially taking the more modern/futuristic part into account. If I wouldn't be subscribed yet, you wouldve gotten a new subscriber now.
On that note tho, and anyone correct me if im wrong, but Hoopa has no influence over time. To my knowledge he can only grab things through space directly.
Maybe we can do some kind of time travel through AZ's weapon or we get a bit of support by good ol' Arceus or lil Celebi.
Yeah I didn't think Hoopa had any explicit mentions of time travel but through any TPCi media it's not super clear how parallel different realities are and if 'dimensions' and alternate timelines are even the same thing. It's a stretch but I think it's possible for Hoopa to dimension hop someone that also time displaces them depending on how the timelines run up against each other. But yeah I'm basically coping for miss-speaking lmao.
I think they are going to invent a new mechanism for time travel but the specifics are a bit hard to pin down if you look at the justification for time travel in PLA

for so long we played pokemon with a set plot and history based on each region/game released....however we never knew the WHY reason.....My assumption is that the Pokemon company is starting to shift their focus on New regions and New Pokemon and start giving fans to a closer look at the back history to these regions and cities that has been released already by giving fans what they want.. Which is brilliant because we are still getting a NEW game essentially, but a whole new plot and settings with one that we've played before.

Also the power plant was actually originally planned to be the area dedicated to a volcanion-based event, but it ended up getting scrapped

Thinking about what you said in the video brought me to a few of my own assumptions that I would like to share!
- We will see Lysandre in the past/as a child to flesh out his villain arc
- AZ will be giving us our starters
- Mega Zygarde
- We play as descendants of X/Y mc (grandparents?)
- We will be able to explore outside of the city, just no other townships
- N appearance 😮
I think this game will be taking place in the 1880s as well as perhaps like 2030 (I saw something of another redevelopment plan, might be wrong). I don't know if we might get to time travel, but this might contrast zygarde and how we may have caused AZ's ultimate weapon, like how we caused gyms in PLA.
I also have questions if eternal flower floette is a paradox form from AZ'S time, like how cyclizar has 2 paradox legendary forms. Perhaps AZ'S floette is a mythical paradox? I don't know.

GF picking a timeline is something i thought theyd already done. Personally I'd think they might be unifying the timelines and might retcon Gmax/Tera forms as Megas made with alternative energy sources, making it more viable to keep introducing alt forms with future gimmicks/changes to how Megas work later on.
Sugimori said they keep things vague intentionally because the mystery is more fun and that’s how games they grew up with were like and they wanted to keep that alive
Not really sure why you get so hung up on character continuity between timelines. The entire concept of alternate timelines being first introduced in OR/AS, which were themselves remakes of R/S, suggested not just alternate, but parallel timelines populated by alternate versions of the same characters engaging in more or less the same events. So, it hardly matters what timeline a game ostensibly takes place in, it will still likewise feature similar ancestors/descendants.
Heck, going back even further, B/W also alluded to alternate timelines, most notably in the appearance of Opelucid and the existence of either Black City or White Forest, yet everything and everyone else is otherwise nearly identical.
None of this is really meant to be taken all that seriously and is mostly just a tongue in cheek reference to the franchise's use of paired games and remakes where similar stories are retold with superficial differences.
I mean you're right but there are historical narrative differences between some games and there are characters who have time/space/dimension travelled whose origins we can't specifically place amongst these differences. Is the Ingo in PLA from a mega version of Unova in the future or from the DS games? We don't know, but distinctions like that might matter narratively. For example, these displaced characters ('fallers' maybe but idk if that applies only for Ultra Wormhole displaced people) might have distinct knowledge about Megas or other phenomena that may or may not be timeline exclusive. This knowledge could inform a character's decisions relating to events in the story, shaping the narrative and so forth. Things like that are what I'm concerned about.
It seems to be a trend with Gamefreak's storytelling (especially the B team) recently, that they are treading deeper and deeper into time travel and cross-dimensional travel (Anabel) and some level of clarity would be helpful when interpreting these stories.

This is a lot of my same thoughts with the exception of time travel. I haven't felt like time travel is likely. However, I think if it does happen then it will be a very limited thing.
I do believe if we are talking about the average player, they don't really care about the overall timeline as long as the in-game timeline/plot makes sense.
Well this is precisely what I'm talking about. Currently, in-game narratives include time travel, through muddy timelines, across games. It's the across games thing that's tricky - that's why I use PLA Ingo and Alder/ancient hero as an example. With how the current timelines work it is very improbable that the Ingo we see in PLA is the same one we see in black and white. If they make a Unova remake or develop this story thread in any upcoming title the explicit knowledge about which timeline the player is in is suddenly viral to understanding the narrative.
Here's my cope:
Pokemon black and white will have all 4 battle gimmicks available but it is restricted to gyms only.
Seeing that Carmine was helping her teacher with other projects when we arrived for the indigo disk I suspect that they went globe trotting to understand and figure out how they can bring all those different battle styles to Unova.

Most likely thing would be a timed kiosk demo like they did with Let’s Go at E3. No way they’d risk another data mine like what happened with the ORAS & SM demos. Now that E3 is dead though, I don’t know what they’d do in regards to those kiosks, I doubt they’d risk having them in store demo kiosks.

11:14 isn't *only* oras in a seperate timeline? The other games have mega ray and the primals only because it was easier to import them and not get called out for cut content.

As for where AZ got the “technology” from, when you look into the lore, he’s basically a master alchemist. Look at the Pokédex for Golurk for example. There’s one of those (by design) in the gardens of the Parfum Palace. There are many Pokémon based on golems, Claydol probably being one of the most interesting timeline-wise, being 20,000 years old puts it being brought to life at the same time as Eternatus fell upon Galar. Funnily enough, it’s Claydol statues that you see in Galar leading up to the old covered-up statue of Zacian and Zamazenta, despite Claydol being a Hoenn Pokémon. Anyway, getting carried away with lore here haha. Hit me up if you want a source on deeper Pokémon lore ‘cause Kalos is my favourite region and I’m obsessed with the lore around AZ, the Kalos War and its legendaries.
Interesting theory, I'd love to see more evidence for that AZ one. Tbh haven't heard it before.
Right now I'm pretty solidly in the camp of BW -> SV having extraterrestrial dragons that were fragmented and crashed into earth a long time ago (terapagos diverges on the dragon criteria but terastalization muddies that a bit). Skipping over every piece of evidence (I'm saving this AZ theory for a future video), basically, Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde are all extra terrestrials that fell to earth in the material of the anistar sundial. Zygarde is the one that assists AZ in understanding and building the technology. This one does sound far fetch ah but as you'll see in an upcoming vid, there is some quite strong in-game evidence that suggests this to be the case + it helps tie into the narrative threads of the other post sinnoh regions .

I think it’s too early to say for sure whether or not the game will take place in Lumiose ENTIRELY, it’s entirely possible they meant primarily and whatever intern just fucked up that tweet because that’s the only place as far as I’m aware where “entirely” was used, I wouldn’t mind Pokemon yakuza but I think it would be beneficial to include some sort of wild area
Yeah, for story purposes I hope it doesn't take place entirely in lumiose. but if it does, I'm super interested in what the gameplay loop is. It seems like it will be hard to replicate the gameplay of PLA in the setting of just Lumiose.
Yeah, nowhere has anywhere said it takes place ENTIRELY in the city. It’s just centered around it, not unlike Jubilife Village.

Not to claim they are an end all be all source, but they are the US publishers and they havent retracted or edited their statement since the announcement.
Yeah Unova and Johto was fairly evenly split, I think Kalos was a better choice... Plus, no reason we won't also see a HGSS remake on the same engine ILCA used for BDSP, why not, we'd play it.
I don’t see them locking in on megas, the competitive scene kinda hates it, and it requires more effort to implement than Terra’s and even gigantamax

As a % of TCPi I think the comp scene is tiny. They might change how the mechanic works slightly to accommodate but I think the benefit to the rest of their business probably outways whatever the community sentiment around VGC is

They seem to be prioritizing the whole Pokédex instead of a couple dozen Pokémon to get a boost. I think they will likely try to continue making new gimmicks each generation 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, I mean thats the expectation ig. Hope not to be relegated to a new gimmick but it will be what it will be. I guess you could argue through my business line of argumentation that a new gimmick each generation brings in even more potential revenue then continuously explanding megas.

21:47 Arceus may hear you, that's the most I've been desiering since 2019😭 and I completaly agree that TPC has pressured GF in some form to bring megas back like... I feel like they just dropped megas because of the whole fiasco of the main game freak team porting old 3D models into gen 8 rushing the hell out of those games when both Let's Go had megas and the beta screen of SWSH showed they where including megas too but dropped them las minute coz they already programmed a new gimmick and lazyness and crunch did the rest lol
gen 8 is the only gen I skipped and ended emulating the games during quarentine for the mare sole reason that they cut so much content like megas lol heck, even back in 2016 megas where the selling point for Pokkén. Glad to see them back, I love em🥰
You're kind of wrong on what timeline were are in. While don't know for certain what timeline we're in each game, as a rule of thumb, we can make an estimation of the timeline, based on one significant factor. Mega Evolution. Generally if a game DOESN'T have it, its safe to assume your in the non mega timeline. Gold, Emerald, and possibly sword/shield are non mega universe. Scarlet and violet appear to be non mega universe, untill you read the pokedex entry that explicitly mentions mega salamance. Thus confirming Scarlet/Violet in mega timeline. So its a matter digging through information that affirms one timeline or another.
Yeah I wish it was this simple. Actually trudging through the evidence, things become a little murkier. The fact that you say this though actually bolsters my argument - THIS SHIT IS CONFUSING.
I'm going to make my next video/an upcoming video on the timelines and provide comprehensive evidence. For this reason I'm not going to go into the depths of it right now (also this would be the longest comment ever if I did) but I'll just brielfy go over what we DO know given the evidence we have. Of course there could be stuff I'm missing as I am continuing to do research but I am quite confident in my current positions.
There are 4 confirmed mainline continuities/timelines:
1. RBGY/GSC
2. Gen III - V (including all remakes in this era)
3. Main Mega-Timeline - This is all the main series games from XY through to SV (including ORAS, BDSP and Legends)
4. Let's Go Mega-Timeline
The existence of these is pretty irrefutable, however, the evidence for SS/SV/BDSP/PLA being in the same continuity as XY/SM/USUM is not shown to the player in any easy to find or accessible way. Some of the threads that tie all these games to the same continuity are REALLY THIN and REALLY HIDDEN so I dont fault players for not knowing where/when/which reality Game Freak is telling there stories in - thats my whole point! Like you mentioned it can be as simple as Roaring Moon's Pokédex entry. Just as a general rule of thumb though - an apparent lack of evidence does not disqualify a game from a certain continuty. It is only in the event of evidence being provided that can confirm a game is in a particular timeline that we can close the case on it.
It also doesn't seem to help that from the Gen III up until about PLA Masuda and Gamefreak seemed to intentionally make things murkier. (the fixing of this seems to line up somewhat with Masuda's depature to TPCi lmao - but thats just a theory lol)
Here's the quote I reference in the video that explains their viewpoint:
“It starts to get a little complicated if you pay too much attention to timelines. Like, there might be a professor that appears and it wouldn’t make sense at all if we applied that kind of timeline logic. So we try not to apply it too rigorously." - Masuda in a Gamer Informer interview, 2019
The quote's application here can be misinterpreted as GF ignoring timelines and continuities completely, which isn't exactly what Masuda is saying here to my understanding (mind you I am quoting a translation so there is another layer of ambiguity here). It seems pretty empirically clear to me that GF are aware of the timelines through the evidence available in-game. The quote more so illustrates that some in-game evidence that could be used to solidify or disprove a theory about a timeline in relation to other facts might not be as admissable as obstensivley apparent due to GF lax handling of timeline events in a single continuity for gameplay reasons. The most prominent examples of this being Oak and Jasmine's appearances across DPPt and HGSS, the specifics of which I'll break down in my upcoming video. But basically, shit like that further muddies the timelines for the average player and is confusing af. This is what I was referencing in the video.
Anyway, hope this clears things up a bit. I will go into detail in my next video or a video coming out in the near future.

Honestly the whole gen 1,2 separate timeline thing is i think missing the forest for trees. Ultimately the multiverse aspect has always been about your save file being its own world. A thing we fans sometimes forget( i know i do) is that mega time line games have their equivalent past events still occur. Ex. X/Y need to occur after red and blue. But because X/Y occurs, its past events (Red and blue/FRLG) have megas exist in the world.
Obviously the issue at hand is retconning and the problems it always brings. That being said, i do want to see kalos in the non mega timeline. How interesting it would be, no ultimate weapon, no mega lucario statue, etc.
I just remembered something. Infinity energy exists in every timeline. Meaning the ultimate weapon being built and firing is theoretically possible in every timeline, providing the logistics of said operation. What's stopping Colress or another scientist from harvesting infinity energy and using it for some purpose, megas or otherwise. The answer is, their possible ignorance of it.

This could also apply to other regions and their gimmicks, if not referenced, its POSSIBLE that the conditions needed to create these gimmicks, might not have occurred. Ex. No z crystals in galar games, no terastilation in sun/moon etc. We don't know until gamefreak confirms anything.
@valentinchappa6702 So whilst that Satoshi Tajiri quote is referenced a lot, because that was the true intention for the player's experience, actual narrative timeline continuity is what we are talking about here. As the mainline franchise has developed, the actual game mechanic of different players interacting with each other from their 'own parallel worlds and timelines' seems to be its own entity that functions outside of the narrative continuity. Its explained in the ORAS Delta Episode that the Link Cable just connects trainers that are far away (will explain this extrapolation from the metorite controlling in video). Other characters in the narrative have conjecture about other timelines, like Zinnia and the Team Leaders, but all the scientists at Mossdeep - the in narrative creators of the Link Cable - scoff at this idea. This pretty clearly demonstrates that in the narrative continuty, interactions between trainers from different games are within the same 'reality' NOT different timelines/multiversea. At the very least if I find new evidence on the contrary individual player timelines will be an inconsistent concept and therefore support my main argument that this shit is confusing.
Also, Gen I and II ARE narratively confirmed to be in a seperate continuity from FRLG. FRLG is then connected to HGSS which is connected to DPPt which is then connected to BW -> B2W2.
I'm not quite following your last points, if the multiverse is infact infinite all these things are possible. The issue that I am addressing in this video is not to do with all the infinite possiblities in the mainline franchise but rather the accessibility of spatial/temporal/timeline coordinates for the average player as they try to interpret these new time/space/multiverse narratives.

There *are* mainly 2 timelines/continuities (actually, way more, but wtv) but they were not created by the firing of the Ultimate Weapon like the fandom keeps repeating. People keeps saying that the firing of the Weapon released so much energy that it broke time, when there's like zero evidence or anything to suggest that.
Zinnia's quote literally mention that the Ultimate Weapon was *NEVER* created in the alt-Hoenn. If the timeline split was due to firing the Ult. Weapon then they would still have the weapon in both timelines.

No, the older games from Gen1 up to B2W2 don't happen in a different timeline from XY. Their official timeline had ALL of the games in a single timeline, with XY (game with Megas) happening alongside B2W2 (no Megas). May Arceus bless GameFreak for finally debunking once and for all that fantheory with ScVi having no Megas but still make the Roaring Moon refference.

First off I think you have a semantic misunderstanding of what people mean by 'split' timeline. Obviously, all potential timelines (of which there are an infinite amount) are continuous from beginning to end. I don't think a majority of the fanbase believes that the firing of the ultimate weapon is creating a fork off a seperate narrative continuity by ripping a hole in spacetime. This is never stated by any character or any text in game. However, what is referenced is that the firing of the ultimate weapon is a fixed point of differentiation for different timelines. To my understanting, when people say 'split timeline' this is what they are reffering to. It is often referred to SPECIFICALLY because Zinnia references it as a fixed differentiating point.
If you could point out which youtuber started this alternate theory that would be great - I have personally not come across it but definitley sounds possible.
To be clear with what I'm discussing in this video and my next one, I am talking about narrative continuity timelines. Not the infinite set of potential timelines. Just the playable ones we can verify with in-game evidence.
There are 4 verafiable mainline timelines that can confirmed through in-game evidence:
1. RBGY/GSC
2. Gen III - V (including all remakes in this era)
3. Main Mega-Timeline - This is all the main series games from XY through to SV (including ORAS, BDSP and Legends)
4. Let's Go Mega-Timeline
In two of these timelines the weapons was fired. In two of them it wasn't. Determining whether two seperate games are in different continuities can be done by comparing evidence of many things across games. Evidence about the presence of mega's is NOT the only way this is done. This is often where many misconceptions about the timelines come from - and to your point many poketubers have done a diservice to the discourse by not researching thoroughly enough and instead framing conjecture as fact. I will break all this down thoroughly in my next video but I'll give you a short example now.
The continuities of Gens III - V (more specifically definitely III - IV but probably also generation V to my understanding) are confirmed, through in-game evidence, to NOT be in the same timeline as the Main Mega-Timeline (which as stated before comprises of all the mainline 3D games).
The two important pieces of evidence that confirm this are the 'Member Card' from Platinum and Red and Blue's appereance in SM. The Memeber Card states in its description that it is was from '50 years prior' to the events of Platinum. In its official Platinum artwork we can see the date 1958/12/1 which is a clear reference to the Darkrai events distribution date in 2008/12/1. With other knowledge we have (that i will explain in my next video) we know that DPPt happens in the same year timeframe as HGSS which are confirmed to take place 3 year after the events of FRLG. This puts the kanto events of FRLG squarely in 2005. In SM red and blue appear with a '96 written on his shirt which is a reference to the start date of his adventure in this timeline. This means the red and blue of the Gen II-V timeline could not possibly be of the same timeline (this works in conjunction with other evidence that connects XY and ORAS to SM). Additionally, In BDSP the Member Card for the Darkrai event does not have a viewable date inscription and therefore we can place the events of BDSP in 1999 as oppossed to 2005 events of DPPt.
There is a lot of additional complementary and supplemantary evidence missing in this comment that makes the arguments for these timeline continuity distinctions stronger. For the sake of brevity I am not going over them now, however, I will cover this topic in great depth in my next video about the timelines.
As you can see, all it takes to differentiate the different narrative continuities of the mainline games is to compare the evidence available. The issue with this when it comes to discourse around this topic is how inaccessible the evidence is for the average player. It leads to individuals coming to conclusions about the nature and structure of the timelines having only ever considered a very small subset of the available evidence, which I believe is true in your case. Of course, this is not through any fault of your own, its mostly a result of how obscure gamefreak makes this evidence and how much effort it takes to synthesise everything into a coherent map of events and timelines.
As with this 'Official Timeline' you are refering to. Only thing I could possibly think you are refering to is the Toshinobu Matsumiya tweet. First off, this was only confirming the chronology of the Gen III - V as FRLG and HGSS were referenced not RBGY and GSC. All of which could already be confirmed with in-game evidence. Nothing about the tweet confirms that XY are in the same timeline as B2W2 just that in that chronolgy they occur at the same time. This is just a comprehension error on your part,
Also, I think blaming the fandom for repeating a theory that you think is incorrect based on evidence you have is a little concieted considering you have not considered a vast array of evidence yourself. You can contribute to the discourse without throwing the whole fandom under the bus. But you do you - I'm no moral authority that's for sure.
