    Regarding Pokeballs, the NPC who says Pokeballs didn't exist when he was young is from Unova. Legends Arceus takes place in Hisui/Sinnoh and Pokeballs are made with Apricorns, something established as far back as in Gold and Silver in Johto (which has a direct connection with Sinnoh). It's likely that Pokeballs didn't exist in Unova, but did exist in Sinnoh/Hisui and Johto.

      Makes me wonder if that's why N and the people who were genuine in team Plasma weren't too fond of Pokeballs (I mean if they're relatively newer in Unova)

      @Kureiton I’m not sure, where else would Hisui’s Poké Balls have come from? 100 years down the line somewhere? I mean, the Hisuian Poké Balls look like they aren’t too advanced for the time. They at least have cameras. The world outside of Hisui is a lot more developed.

    Apricorn Pokéballs exist 400 years prior GSC according to Kurt, so 1599. Arceus takes place around 1869 after the Meiji Restoration and modern Pokéballs were created in 1925. There's no way Drayden is over 85 during the event of BW in 2010 so the most likely scenario is that Pokéballs are a PokeJapan invention that took their time to reach overseas nations.

    • @nickioleary8577

      Arceus takes place at basically any point during the Meiji period post Meiji restoration. There are a few lamps in-game that appear to be electric lamps rather than oil lamps or candles which would further narrow it down to at least 1878. Of course even if the game takes place in 1910 Drayden still can't be in the game if he's 85 in 2010 UNLESS Black and White don't take place in 2010 anyway. Red and Blue seem to have only aged about 8 to 10 years from Red/Blue to Sun/Moon so they can't all be taking place exactly when the games came out.

      I recall Unova having an abundance of Ranger type trainers out and about. Considering none of the Ranger games have locations with Japanese inspired names, maybe it’s not far fetched to theorize that Unova relied on Ranger-style catches with no access to poke balls 🤔 This works well with Team Plasma’s (well, N’s) ideology too, since Rangers only catch local pokémon and do not keep any, except for a single partner pokémon they’ve bonded with, and they don’t battle with them. If poke balls are newer in Unova, an upset about the morality makes a lot of sense

      Yeah, whenever characters say random English words/phrases in the Japanese version of an anime or a game, English localizations equivocate this by either attaching a different ethnicity/language to the character, OR they have them use very exaggerated English, depending on the context or the character's background. In Laventon's case, he uses random British phrases and exaggerated English since he's from Galar.

    Absolutely LOST my mind when I saw “the celestica people”, I’ve never seen someone do a full analysis that is almost completely accurate to everything I know !! This is my favorite piece of Pokémon lore (and probably just video games in general) and very few people pay attention to it or even get the lore correct. One minor correction though; the ancient verse about bones and a river is actually about a specific eating ritual unique to the celestica, where every part of a fish is used (they were strict pescatarians from what I can gather) aside from the bones, then they would set those bones down a river/out to sea because they believed the fish would come back to life, as explained in one of the sinnoh folktales

    Legends Arceus was such a treat as someone who started playing Pokemon with Pokemon Diamond! Seeing you make the connection with Kamado and Beni's original hometown potentially being (ancient) Mahogany Town was so mind-blowing!
    On the topic of Hisuian voltorb and electrode, I believe they are actually organic and natural, hence their grass typing. In Lord Electrode's boss intro, we see him and his voltorb underlings fall from a tree like nuts. From looking at their signature move chloroblast, they seem to gather their power through photosynthesis, so their electrical powers may be because they are solar-powered Pokemon. Maybe whoever designed the first poke balls were inspired by Hisuian voltorb and electrode, similar to how vanillite's shape inspired the Pokemon world's first ice cream (if I remember correctly)? So, rather than being poke ball mimics, maybe Hisuian voltorb and electrode are apricorn mimics? Maybe Hisuian voltorb would have stems that they dangle from trees with, which results in that hole on their head when they eventually detach from the stem and fall?
    As for the Ancient Quarry, Ingo explains that that tunnel's stones were carved out to build the Temple of Sinnoh. That could explain the oddly compact assortment of carved stones there!

      I think because Arceus was the one who ask the player their request. So maybe this is the only exeption of not a total memory loss for the MC because since Arceus is the one who wants their help. And everyone who unfortunately stumbled into the ultra wormholes have their memories wiped clean. I believe because of the risk of going through past/future the result of losing one's memory is likely cause of their enability to know their past memories. Thus starting a new life as if they're reborn and starting things from scratch again. Kindna like how Mohn has zero memory of his family due to the ultra wormhole and ran the place Poké Pelago. In USUM when Lusomine asked if this is the first time being in the Aether place(despite being years apart from together she still remembers him) however...he says this is the first time being at the place, the family and the place he used to work at is all gone.

    First off, as a fellow Pokémon lore head I absolutely loved this video! Great job! I'm so excited to see more!
    To add to your Red Gyarados segment, because I wasn't sure if you knew or not but it wasn't said, but Sanqua, a member of the Construction Corps (the woman who looks like Johto's Karen), was the one who's idea was it to build the Gyarados statues on top of the Galaxy building.
    Not only this, but during one of her side quests when you enter her home and look inside the closet it is said that she owns "weird clothes and a cape" and the first thing that comes to mind is her being a distant relative/ancestor of Lance (and Clair) as well as Karen. Strong chance she's from the Blackthorn City Clan too. (Or what ever it may have been called in the past.) The dragon clan in Johto that Lance and Clair are also a part of. The Dragon's Den shrine has a couple of Gyarados statues inside it too. And Lance showed interest in helping that Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage. 🤔 That could explain Sanqua's choice of wanting to create Gyarados statues!
    Side note, not relating too much to the Red Gyarados but Sanqua also has post game dialogue referring to a mysterious painting she made but we never actually get to see it. Popular theory is that it became the mural in the Hearthome City church. Another connection to DPPt/BDSP from PL:A potentially!

    • @breezyvgc
      @breezyvgc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There is actually speculation (I'm calling it that because I feel like I have memories of it being in the games but can't find any sources to back me up online) that this painting was actually one of Mount Coronet, and is the background for the very start of DPPt/BDSP's story talking about the Red Gyarados.

      I think Sanqua is from the clan but not directly an ancestor to Lance and Clair tho. It'd be odd for a direct heir of the clan to leave their home and move overseas to another region.
      Also neither Sanqua nor Karen are associated with Dragon Pokemon, which you'd expect if they were heirs to the Dragon clan.

    Oh, one other thing (i know this is my third comment, shh): Electrode. We technically don't know that the Electrode with a statue built out of it is a Poke Ball mimic, because the statue lacks color. It could be mimicking an Apricorn or other spherical plant. I don't know how likely it is but it is a possibility.

    • @Savariable
      @Savariable 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      There is also a chance that hisuian Voltorb and electrode always looked like that, and that is actually the reasoning behind their choice for PokeBall colors in universe, and that the PokeBall is actually modeled off of Voltorb and not the other way around (or maybe hisuian Voltorb, and regular Voltorb is essentially completely unrelated)

  • @grantbarbarino4465
    @grantbarbarino4465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +118

    My personal interpretation of Verse 2 is that Cogita is speaking to Arceus, not Regigigas.
    1. "World's far-off end" could be referring not to the physical end of the region, but perhaps a metaphorical end, like the boundary between the real and spiritual world where Arceus dwells. Arceus is said to dwell beyond time and space, i.e., past them, at the "end".
    2. Who gave Cogita the mission that she speaks about so often? Assuming it wasn't somehow self-imposed, it had to have been someone with knowledge of time and space, and knowledge that she would live a supernaturally long life. For that matter, why CAN she live so long? My guess is that Arceus both blessed her with her immortality and was the one to assign her with waiting for the player, whom Arceus itself would send into the future. If Cogita had at one time met Arceus, it explains why she expresses a desire to meet it again (for a second, or at least a subsequent time) in Verse 2. Arceus being beyond time and space could also be why she describes her wish to see it again as "futile".
    3. The lost companions and beloved that Cogita relates to whoever she's talking to could be in reference to Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. Arceus's "companions" have now left it to go to their own realms (seen in both the anime and in the description for Origin Dialga and Palkia on the website). Plus, if Cogita's beloved really was Ancient Hero/Alder(?), then his connection to Arceus, via his Pokemon having a connection to Arceus via Arceus' blessing, it doesn't seem impossible for Cogita to have met Arceus in the time of the ancient hero.
    4. "Ours are cold and endless winter days" is likely metaphorical, as Cogita was probably off to the Ancient Retreat by the time she wrote this Verse.
    5. Her "wish" that she relates to Arceus here, I believe, is likely a wish for peace, and connections between people and Pokemon. It's a flimsy guess, but it's the only desire I can see them sharing, as Arceus does seem to be pretty big on connecting people and Pokemon.
    I just think it makes more sense to have Cogita and Arceus share this connection, especially with her immortality and "mission" being otherwise unexplained, than to bring Regigigas into a story that otherwise hadn't involved it thus far. However, that's just my personal guess. Awesome video, have been waiting for it for a long while on Twitter lol.

The player is technically beyond the world Cogita knew of as of the writing of that verse, their companions and family are 100+ years in the future with no certainty they will ever reunite (Masters seems to imply "Rei" knows they won't stay in Hisui before they finish their duty, but Cogita wouldn't have hard confirmation of that and Dawn/Lucas could have easily thought they were doomed at any of the rough parts of PLA's story.)
      In comparison Regigigas is literally just sleeping and Arceus' thought process seems too weird to view companions in a longing manner; hell it only tells you to stop Volo and calm its kids through an incredibly roundabout series of magic texts as a part of a wider mission.

    I believe that Ingo was brought to Hisui by Arceus, like you. If you watch the Hisuian Zorua trailer, the voice actor sounds incredibly similar to Ingo's VA from Pokémon Masters in both English and Japanese. If I remember correctly, announcement tweets bring up an Arc Phone being found on the ground. It is possible that Arceus brought Ingo to Hisui at the Alabaster Icelands to stop Volo, gave him an Arc Phone, and Ingo lost his memory after being attacked by Zoroark. He was later found by the nearby Pearl Clan, as evidenced by the art book, and became a warden while his Arc Phone was lost. You were Arceus' second attempt to stop Volo, as Ingo failed but found his own place regardless.

    Damn, kind of blew my mind with the jade tent thing. I am partial to the headcanon that Arceus isn't really around anymore, not so much dead as non-corporeal, and Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina are basically pieces of Arceus that formed their own bodies around the different powers Arceus represented. Basically my explanation for why it's said Arceus created them, why you never actually meet Arceus in the game (just "pieces" of it), and why their origin forms incorporate parts of Arceus' design. Seeing that the same thing happened with the Sinnoh people, starting off as the one "Jade" tribe that split into the Diamond Clan, Pearl Clan, and Volo only confirms that theory in my mind.

    • @Marixchatt
      @Marixchatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Really nice connections but Arceus itself litteally appears in the beginning of the game and sends you off. It also tells you that it created the ‘Arceus’ it gives you, the player, in order to observe you. Basically implying that it exist but would rather not directly intervine itself.

    • @izzyshitposts9075
      @izzyshitposts9075 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The really cool thing about the Jade tribe to me is that there were two GBC bootlegs back in the day called Pokemon Diamond and Jade. So by putting a Jade clan into Sinnoh, they're reuniting Diamond with its unofficial partner.

    This is what makes this game so special to me. The line of details in it turns from minute, to copious. Multi-media tie ins and details that would be easily overlooked, just heighten the game in my eyes. If there was ever a semblance of an idea to continue content past Daybreak at Gamefreak, I wish they would’ve went through with it.
    Not finished with the video, but thanks TAHK0 for the breakdown here. Legends deserves it.
    Also, I wanted to add… (Scarlet/Violet Spoilers)
    I felt that the ending of the base game in Legends felt melancholic or at the very least unresolved. You play as this trainer that is obviously from another time and place, but doesn’t get to return to their prior home. Why is that?
    Someone commented on a separate video unrelated (thank you whoever you are), about how Sada/Turo in S/V mentions that a person who travels through time, can’t ever hope to return to their original time.
    It’s tragic. The player character made a home in Hisui, friends & comrades as well. But as with Emmet and Ingo being separated, I can’t help but think what their mother, or even anyone who interacted with the player character are feeling…

    • @BJGvideos

      A person who travels through time can't ever hope to return to their original time? That's some bullshit. Professor Oak went to the future as a child and he went back to within the hour of when he vanished. To say nothing of Ranger 3 where you can go back and forth as many times as you like.

      I love the lore in these games and it baffles me how people zoom through the story and never bother to look at details. Like, people have clamored for years for a mature game that focuses on serious issues, but then dismiss SM as baby games because the tutorial is a bit long. SM's story was about two kids fleeing their abusive mother, herself suffering from severe trauma from the loss of her husband, and it delves into things like the aforementioned child abuse, the nature of family and the importance of defining it for yourself, overcoming your past and growing from it, the nature of forgiveness, and so on. Yet it seems the fanbase tended to look at it and throw ALL off that out the window just because it can be a little handholdy.

      @@BJGvideos I think a big part of it is the hardcore push into voice acting and game accessibility and a downplay on reading. The biggest complaint I've heard from younger players about pokemon is that its boring and theres too many words before getting into the gameplay, there are too many screens of stats, and so on. I see more and more Live Service games opting for quick flashes of images and big booming sounds rather than writing up a paragraph of history or world building architecture because people are just leaving it behind for more iconography that can bridge language barriers. I don't like it, but I understand why its happening, and I appreciate the creators that leave more detailed and nuanced backgrounds for the more inquisitive minds to find among the brightly colored piles of chaff.
      I picked up Pokemon Violet recently and stalled out on progress because I wanted to get 100ish pokemon to level 50 just to see how they felt in combat, while all my younger friends had already beaten the game in the first few days and were looking at me like I was crazy.

I didn't realize Laventon wrote in a different language, or that the son from Hisuian Snow was an actual canon character in the game. I look forward to more of these lore type of videos (if you still plan to make them) and if you ever do one for Scarlet/Violet, you're gonna have a WHALE of a time. Also, in regards to the fish, no, it's not a new Pokemon from Gen IX. It's strange, because in the older games, they've reference real world animals, just like you said here, but now they try to show Pokemon instead, so I'm not sure if it's just a fish or what.

    I think what resonated with me a lot was something that reminded me of a throwaway scene in the Pokémon BW anime that I hadn’t thought about in years. There’s a tiny scene where Alder asks Cynthia out to lunch (and mentions a date in another scene?) and she very quickly rejects him and it’s lighthearted and silly and until this video, I never thought about it again.
    Following just these speculations with Cogita (who bears striking resemblance to Cynthia in appearance and demeanor) and Alder’s Ancestor(? Or Alder Himself) it left a bittersweet thought in my mind, especially seeing that Cogita is the one in mourning at losing their beloved. It just provided a window into what could have been possible, but maybe in a different time and place. I’m not sure why, It really struck a chord with me.

    ive seen a theory about ingo's memory loss that imo ties up the loose end nicely:
    much like hisuian snow and other extracanonical media, i think the hisuian zorua trailer is implying how ingo got sent to the past, lost his memory and ended up in the pearl clan. the trailer features a male character who says he wants to document pokemon on "this strange device". the fact that he even has audio/video recording in hisui is pretty curious as photography is a recent invention. the character also enthusiastically recognizes a group of snorunt but has no idea what the (extinct in present-day) hisuian zorua is. with these 2 facts in mind we can kind of assume this character comes from modern day much like the player. its possible, then that the character was sent with similar intentions; alongside his stated goal of documenting pokemon and the phrase "strange device", it seems like he could be recording on an arc phone.
    the end of the trailer of course shows this character being attacked and one way or another subdued by hisuian zoruark. fast forward to the events of PLA and we learn that ingo has been taken in by the pearl clan, who happen to live in and had discovered ingo in the same portion of the map that the trailer takes place in. if the theory stands, ingo is this character who was sent back and given an arc phone to fill the same role as the player, but when he was attacked and lost his memory, he lost sight of the mission.
    i admit the theory does take jumping through a hoop or two, but it does provide answers for both the oddities of that trailer and the greater mystery of why ingo would have lost his memory when the player didnt.

      And Serena and Calem are around 16 in the games which makes them the oldest playable protagonists so far. But the reason why their age is so high in the games is possibly due to French law. This has probably also been an influential reason why the X and Y seasons of the anime seemed more mature than the others.

    One thing to add on in regards to color theory and the clans - Each of the clans wear distinct colors to represent where theyre from and whom they worship (Purple for Palkia/Pearl Clan, Blue for Dialga/Diamond clan), however they also sport a secondary color which represents a color from Arceus’ color palette as well- For the Pearl clan, it is the white of Arceus’ body, and the Diamond clan used the red of its eyes.
    Now while this is speculation of my part, even though Volo’s outfit is meant to represent arceus in its entirety, his design reflects mostly the colors of green and gold, which could represent both arceus’ arch and gems, but also the Celestica people, the jade-colored clan, with maybe having the gold as its secondary color. Again, this second part is merely speculation, but a man can dream.

    I always assumed that since Pokeballs were made by the Galaxy Team, for the Galaxy Team, they simply weren't publicly available when Alder was growing up.
    Anyway, this is my first video of yours I've ever seen, however I am super impressed. Everything mentioned is grounded and reasonable, unlike many of the other theory channels on TH-cam. Additionally, I'm glad to see that you came to many of the same conclusions as I did! With an extremely well thought out video like this I can say: Congratulations, you've earned my subscription. I look forward to seeing what content you make moving forwards.
    (Also, if I don't believed you mentioned it, so may I recommend the Kirby series as a good place to look for lore. They have very little at a surface level because everything is extremely hidden and it is also easily the franchise with the most lore, that I know of.)

      we also know from the games taking place in the orre region on gamecube that there are simply parts of the pokemon world where obtaining pokeballs is incredibly hard for an average person, even in the modern day. we take it for granted in the main series, but the idea every store in every area around the world keeps a large stock of an item most everyday people don't need is kind of crazy

      @@Namingway248 Orre is also a wasteland that seems to be relatively cut off from the rest of the world despite being in the mainland US. Everywhere else is a home for pokemon but all the pokemon in Orre came from somewhere else.
      I know there's a theory that Orre had some sort of nuclear war or at least nuclear testing but honestly I don't think even something as catastrophic as that would clear it of pokemon to that extent, especially not with humans living as actively as they do.

    You just earned a sub. Within the first 20 minutes, you pointed out things I completely glossed over. I don't know how I didn't notice the pokeballs being made in the Galaxy Hall. The only critical thinking I applied to this game was recognising that the symbol we wear on our survey Corps uniform and branded on the Pokedex is the symbol for the survey corps; additionally, I thought Clover was origannly from the Ginko guild because of her clothes.
    Great stuff.

    A possible notion as to the Ancient Hero's fate can be found near the summit. Go to the route directly south of Moonview Arena. You see that cemetery? Count the graves. There's eleven of them. What eleven beings are sacred enough to be buried directly underneath the Temple of Sinnoh? Well for one, the ancient hero and his ten beloved companions (though Avalugg would have to be a proxy grave).
    I think the Celestica people fled TO Sinjoh rather than from there, after they lost Arceus's favor. That's why they aren't found in Hisui any more other than vague descendants.
    As I said in another comment, there's no way that Volo could possibly have killed Lord Arcanine. Like at all. It was killed trying to save Growlithe from drowning, after it got pulled out to sea by a random wave. There's nothing Volo can do to control any of that, and Palina witnessed the whole thing. The shadowy figures seen around the island are the Miss Fortunes.
    I got the impression that Ingo was taken by an Ultra Beast, considering his lack of memory resembles that of a Faller. Compare it to us, who can clearly relate details of the modern era.

      Volo definitely didn't kill Arcanine but I think it's interesting that his own Arcanine is female. The chances of it being so are 25%. Not as unlikely as Togekiss' 12.5% but still noteworthy. Perhaps she was Lord Arcanine's mate. Maybe Volo sympathised with her grief - he has friendship evolutions and Togekiss at the very least was definitely evolved through the friendship method because it's consistently female in every appearance - and this was one of the reasons he was so motivated to find Arceus and remake the universe into what he believed would be a better place. If she was Lord Arcanine's mate, Volo took her away from her child but perhaps she trusted Palina to take care of him while she and Volo tried to find a way to either resurrect Lord Arcanine or rebuild everything so that no family would be torn apart again.

    The existence of Origin Ore also means a LOT. Origin Ore could very well be the main material used to make the ultimate Weapon that AZ used in the Great Pokémon War, and the firing of the weapon is pretty much the reason that
    1. The Great Crater of Paldea exists, and is filled with all those crystals
    2. Pretty much every Pokémon battle gimmick since Gen 6 exists including Mega Evolution, Z moves, Dynamax, and Teraorbs.
    3. We have a split timeline in the first place (mega timeline and Original Timeline).
    I have a whole theory built of the base theory Bird Keeper Tobey made about infinity energy coming from Arceus and being the power source of the ultimate weapon. And I’d love to get into it now but I just left a comment explaining it on someone else’s video and it took me a solid 30 minutes to write and I really don’t wanna do it again 😭. Loved the video tho, the only thing I’d say is that I believe Volo is actually the oldest living character in the game, and I believe this isn’t the first time him and Giratina attempted this plan, and I believe the first time was the first incident with Alder.

    • @rivenblake8220
      @rivenblake8220 ปีที่แล้ว

      In D/P/PT Cyrus gathered origin ore by bombing lake valor to craft the red chain. AZ could've used the ore but that is very far fetched, the ultimate weapon is made out of a translucent crystal while the ore is bright glowing red.
      In XY it got confirmed that he used Yveltal in its slumber form to power the ultimate weapon and Xerneas in its slumber form to give eternal life to his Floette and himself.
      And as long as the DLC for Scarlet and Violet isn't out, we can't confirm anything about the origin of the great crater of Paldea. It could be the war between Kalos and Paldea 3000 years ago but that's just speculation for now.

    • @TAHK0
      @TAHK0  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BJGvideos "killed" is more in indirect terms. We don't know what happened that lead to growlithe getting swept out at sea yet, and they went out of their way to say volo (or someone matching their description) has been around. So while nothing is confirmed, nothing is unconfirmed yet either.

    • @BJGvideos
      @BJGvideos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TAHK0 Well of course he's been around. He's been around everywhere, and the coast lands are where Giratina lives. But he doesn't have power over the ocean. He can't summon a wave, and we're explicitly told that Growlithe was dragged out to sea by a wave and Lord Arcanine died trying to save it.

    • @TAHK0
      @TAHK0  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BJGvideos that’s not quite how the lesson of this video works though. We don’t know how growlithe got out there, so knowing what happened after doesn’t confirm or deny anything. 1:11:30 very small addition: this old verse seems to reference Sinnoh Folk Tale 1 from the library, which talks about people eating fish pokemon and returning their bones to the water, so the pokemon will return "fully fleshed" (basically just talking about the cycle of life)
    So to me this could mean two things. Either verse 9 is just using the bones (meals) to mark the passage of time, or it is talking about her companions like you said (which the sorrowful tone does imply imo) and part of her hopes that by setting their bones to sea, they will return like in the folklore tale.
