A good way of getting up Highertower in x10 is to go Scout with the Winger pistol. Stand on the edge, facing in, then jump backwards. Then (in the air) jump forwards. Do NOT jump in place, you will fall.
Imagine you are playing as a low power class like sniper, engie or spy, you fight your way to the top of highertower, only to be airblasted off by a f2p pyro, who proceeds to taunt at you.
I played that Hightower map. I rode the payload all the way to the top. It sucked but was funny anyway. I tried again and got killed halfway up, never tried since
I found a server dedicated to highertower that has grappling hooks, instant respawn and rtd and often has 32 people. It's actually really fun to just screw around in. ~I don't need your filthy steam group!~

Highertower actually enjoys success today as an x10/x100/etc map. There's also a version that's twice as tall nowadays.

Crossbow has always shot in an arc. Its just that the map is so big, you can easily notice it.
