  • Follow the incredible journey of Asadullah Rahman, the youngest inmate to be held at Guantanamo Bay.
Asadullah was only 10 years old when he was arrested and imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay.
While working as a tea boy for an Afghan commander, he, along with 30 other Afghans were rounded up by US soldiers and sent to the notorious military site in Cuba.
Branded a 'terrorist' he was held for 17 months before finally being released.
Al Jazeera's Sonia Verma was the first journalist to find Asadullah after he was freed, travelling to his remote mountain village to interview him.
What she discovered was a young boy who had been victimised by the US, abandoned by his country, yet nostalgic for his brief and unusual taste of the West.
Ten years later, Sonia returns to Afghanistan to find the 22-year-old. This is no simple task. As her friend Graeme Smith put it, "You only had a name. A first name, which is like looking for a guy called John in New York City."
But when Sonia finally does find Asadullah, she discovers a young man trying to rebuild his life after a lost childhood.
Filmmakers: Faris Kermani and Sonia Verma

Asadullah, I have so much respect for you, a beautiful, clever and dignified man. How you continue your life and are brave enough to speak aloud. I wish you and the other boys, who not surprisingly joined the Taliban on release, some peace. Sadly, that is a naive desire on my part, but it is still my wish.

This US government makes me so sick. The way the skirted around the Geneva Convention, Detaining what are classified as Child Soldiers with no rehab. And Obviously the entire way this man has had his life ripped apart by political forces on both side that are out of his control. I was born in Russia and American people gave me alot of opportunity. I love American people but I hate what these politicians are doing in our name.

This video is blocked in the U.S., where I live. I couldn’t fathom why, and so I went through the effort of using a VPN. I was only able to watch this and comment afterwards. America will never own up to their actions.

My belief that more should be done for him. Such as trying to get him somewhere else if he wishes, with more education and a good paying job and support for his family. Not sure what is possible but seems more could and should be done to help him. He endures so much.

+sanjeep tamang if you care about this matter, then do you best to share this video, or make your own about the subject. do some research an write your own story about him. we shouldn't rely on people like the BBC to do it for us. We should all become more proactive over what matters in this world.
