Eric has always been one of my favorite white guys playing black blues. He has great talent. I only wish I could come close to his work. Then there's Willie, great talent all around the gamet of music. We are so lucky to have this expertise during our time.
On this day in 1963 {September 28th} Rusty Draper's "Night Life" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #57 and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100... Also in 1963 country singer Ray Price covered it for his album of the same name... The song was written by Willie Nelson and in 1961 he was the first person to recorded it... Rusty Draper passed away on March 28th, 2003 at the age of 80... R.I.P Mr. Draper and Mr. Price turns 87 this coming January 12th...
Shot called Willie back and said, 'I can't fix it. It's broke too bad.' So Willie asked what else he had around? Shot said he had a Martin up on the shelf for $750. Willie asked him if he could put that same Baldwin pickup in the Martin. Shot said he could and that's how Willie got it, unseen and right off the shelf. When Willie got it he said he knew he had gotten something special. He just enjoyed sitting around in a room and playing it, writing on it, and most importantly, the sound of it
Willie Nelson bought his first Martin guitar sight unseen in 1969. He's remarked about how he remembers the circumstances of that first purchase. The Baldwin company gave him a Baldwin amp and classical electric guitar with a special three-cord stereo pickup. He busted that guitar pretty badly so he sent it to Shot Jackson in Nashville to get it fixed.
funny thing about this... the guy you see standing behind Willie is (Brent Mason) one of the best lead guitarist Nashville has ever had. He could "tear this song up" to put it mildly..LOL!! and he doesn't even get a solo... ain't life funny? LOL!!
It's not quite often for Willie to be on the same stage with an equal singer-guitarist to him. Usually, his country fellas were just rythm pickers or no pickers at all. I think it's the same for Eric.
Great musicians know when they should add a solo and they choose most of the good notes to add at the right time. So I think the guy you mentioned did'nt have to add anything because Eric Clapton already add too much stuff all the song. I love Willie and this song. It could've been so much better if Eric hadnt been playing.
When music grabs me, really grabs me, when it seems to be reaching into me and pulling out some deep, unspoken truth, regardless of style, it can lift the hair right off of my arms (no kidding). This performance actually lifted the hair right off of my legs. Addenda: Clapton must have had an emotional orgasm doing this tune, not only because he was playing it with the man who wrote it, but also because of his understanding that the only other person that this tune is really associated with is B. B. King. Watch the grin of childlike delight on the face of each of them, as the other solos... I'm grinning the same way and, as a result, my cheeks will hurt for a week.
I understand what your thinking but your wrong. The reason Eric Clapton and Willie got as solo in this song isnt because Brent didnt want to take a solo... It's because people dont know who Brent Mason is and they want to see Eric C and Willie play. Brent Mason had no say in whether or not he got a solo in this song... He was a "hired hand" musician. Paid to play what they want and nothing more... then go home.
Cool. Slow hand meets Trigger. Willie calls his acoustic guitar that. Thank God for Willie & Eric. 🎤🎤🎸🎸🎶🎵🎼😎🆒♥️
God bless you both Eric and Willie you are helping me get by these hard times!
Woooooow !!! Yesssss saaaaaa!!!!!
Did I die and go to heaven...omg....this is wonderful...gonna play this too much....thanks!!! So happy...my fella's...my song....my blues...
one the worlds best guitarist with one of the best composers of a song, together magic

Two of my favourites - brilliant
My first introduction to this song. Glad I found it.

Now "Night LIfe" has officially been done perfectly!
Wonderful~!!!

Mean commenters - when I turn 70 I want Eric at my birthday bash too.

So dude , it was not pre ordered . He bought it in 1969 . Martin N 20 aka Trigger !!

How many people can get called out by EC on his electric... and own him... on a broken down 35 year old classical guitar? Lovely =)
if I was at this show I'd have to apologize to the people beside me for having 7 eargasms in a row. "Sorry.......I'll clean it up."
He pre ordered it.

How can Willie get his guitar in 1967 when its a 1969 Martin classical ?
eric ripping that thang
Wow. Couldn't you have shaved the first second and a half off of this? Otherwise AWSOME!

Who's the 5 dummies who don't like this.. smh
i would cut off my girlfriends thumbs to be half as talented as either one of these (dont tell my girlfriend i said that)
I don't think Clapton is one of the best composers of song.... :-)
he is not hitting one note
Clapton is such a dud.
