Yep. This time around it’s an easy decision, there’s really no debate over which one to get & unlike last time it was probably better to simply get the C2 & save £600, the G3 wins by a landslide & its better to simply pay the extra even if that involves a few weeks or months extra waiting/saving etc (in which time the G3 price’d drop, anyway…)
LG cheap budget brand this nonsense that G3 is QD OLED killer is lies Sony will likely have heatsink on its A95L Master Series QD OLED and A90L Master Series OLED
Interesting quirk about the dual HDMI input feature LG just announced, this feature (or a form of it) was present on the LG C8 and got removed with the release of the LG C9. (I own both the C8 and E9) Probably not relevant to the new models but on the C8 multi-view doesn't work properly if HDR is enabled. It will show the primary input in HDR and then say the other content is not available in multi-view. (This happens regardless of whether it is input 1 or 2 or both that are in HDR, only the first input will display)
I have my new G2 65" in a very bright room with two huge floor to ceiling windows directly opposite it. I have no complaints about it's brightness. I'm sure the G3 will be great but I'm glad I didn't wait another year for just a few incremental improvements, especially since I snapped up my G2 for $1,9000 on sale for the holiday season. I'd bet the 65" G3 will be nearly twice that when it launches.
I have had the same for years. Huge panoramic windows right to the side of the tv and one in front of the tv behind the couch. I have had the C7, C9, CX and now C1. Even all the way back with C7 the brightness was never a problem. People always seem to think that OLED are dim compared to you average LCD/LED tv, but they are bright as hell compared to any standard LED tv I have seen. The only TV's that are brighter than OLED are QLED, and its barely even a noticable difference anymore.
the issue is that LG is pricing out most of its potential buyers towards going for the samsung QD OLED. The price of the S95B is in the same category as buying the C2. So essentially if you want to buy something from LG that will compete with QD OLED you have to jump to the highest tier G series which is gonna be more expensive then buying the C series.
those who go for the S95B are buying it just for the panel alone. Everything else from quality to usability is better on the LGs. I personally prefer Google TV but heck webOS is better than the horrible Tizen on Samsung
Easier to work out than the plot of Tenet! 🤣🤣👍👍 Diddy diddy do was a good year, but it's come and gone. Looks like diddy diddy shree is going to continue some of the exciting progress we saw in 2022. Thanks for the awesome coverage as always, Vincent! Looking forward to additional coverage.
The TV (panel) space has been very interesting lately. Lots of innovation between competitors and major improvements every year. Excited for MicroLED and more OLED monitors as well.
@@davidviloria7737 *"MLA OLED and Mini LED are big upgrades over regular OLED. Need a 34-38" MLA OLED or Mini-Led monitor from LG."* "Mini LED" has nothing to do with OLED. So-called "Mini LED" is LCD, and it is absolutely not a big upgrade over OLED.
Call me when the C series has this tech. I'd get a G series, but I won't be wall mounting. The optional stand for the G2 caused the TV to rest at an angle too, which is a show stopper. Also, not that it actually matters much for my own setup, but why "can't" LG OLEDs process DTS when they did it just fine until the 2019 models? Sounds more like not wanting to pay for the license than anything else.
Removing DTS can’t be anything other than a cost saving measure. The simple fact is that physical media is dying and every streaming service only offers Dolby. They also assume that those who want DTS will just connect their Blu-ray player or console to the AVR and if not they can set their player/console to decode DTS to PCM which is fine for regular DTS and HDMA. Only X needs to be decoded by the AVR/sound bar otherwise you will only get the base HDMA without the metadata. I actually miss the regular DTS decoder more than DTS ARC/eARC support because I liked to play 1080p and 4K remuxes on my C8 straight off of hard drives instead of using Plex, and for that purpose regular 1.5 Mbps DTS is good enough.
Same, still rocking my 55'' CX here, that I managed to buy after returning a Samsung Q90T after months and months of fights on the phone, by mails and via social media. I vowed to never buy anything from Samsung after that debacle, and I never regretted even once my LG CX. My goal is to keep it until 2025 and then see where we're at then. Will Sony have made their tv more gamer friendly (and will thet let us turn off ASBL in the menus)? Will LG finally decide to put their RnD into motion handling and banding, which are the main issues of its OLED tvs, even more than brightness? We'll see, but I love following this OLED war, it can only be good for us customers!
Im still using my C9 as my daily work/media driver... Idk if im just so used to it, but i dont find myself needing "MORE" brightness... however this smarter lighting technology might move me to want to upgrade this year.
C9 was brighter than the newer versions. They artificially lowered the peak brightness on later models to increase panel longevity and also decrease screen burn in risk
So I *have* to go G3 if I want the new brightness improvements compared to last year? That's kind of unfortunate since I won't be wall mounting. Will there be any other brighter OLEDs this year?
You can find a $20 quality pair of legs that fits the universal VESA mount everywhere on Amazon. That's what I'm going to do. The QD-OLED is still brighter, but the overall APL (Average Picture Level) is higher on the G3.
Will there be a point where burning your retinas due to obscene brightness of these modern displays is seen as too much brightness? Or will be just keep going until we have an artificial sun in our rooms?
Educate yourself first. The sun on a fair summer day is probably trillions times as bright as your brightest HDR screen. Even with a 10,000 nit screen you are not getting anywhere near to properly recreating *reflections* from it on decently smooth surfaces, let alone handling a frame with THE star in it. Now, laser retinal projectors could potentially get in the range of approximating daylight, but the development is slow... If you are being blinded by a 1/4th total brightness setting of your cellphone in a completely dark room, that's just the result of your peripheral vision telling the brain that "it's dark outside!", so it dilates the pupils significantly. That's why bigger screen are preferred. Or ambient lighting that would force your eyes to adapt to a higher brightness. Then again, if the lighting does not correspond to what's happening on the screen, your pupils will be contracted while the screen will be showing a 0.1 nit scene...
@@BernardVisagie Well, I fail to see what exactly you are unhappy with when the current panels struggle to hit even 10k nits... That said, personally I'd rather pursue wider color gamuts first, but luminance is also important.

Oh, they've definitely disappointed in regards to color Volume, and even gamut. Plus, there's noticeable flicker on Whites with black frame insertion, and game mode also lacks the sharpness/clarity of ISF Bright/Dark room picture settings. Plus, 'out of box' black crushing is complete BS considering how expensive these TV's are, and BFI has severe shadow detail crushing the higher you go. BFI itself is mediocre. At max for 60hz, it's in the same ball park as 'average' plasma motion, with 650p motion resolution with a 5ms persistence. Definitely no CRT.
I was so upset with how much space that 'streaming now' section took up on my C1 homescreen that I spend days learning how to setup a pihole and blacklisting URL's to finally remove that section entirely. Homescreen comes up instantly every time and is clutter free. Very disappointed with LG. Glad to see that section has been move to the secondary screen.
I'm wondering if for some reason even though last year's model got rid of black frame insertion on 120hz.. I'm curious to see if the 2023 models will have it again since it was a talking point of the '22 models
Almost no one uses this, so it is not neccesary at all. Because it reduces brightness way too much. 120 Hz BFI should be a non-concern if you don't play PC games or retro games. The number of 120 Hz PS5 games that you can play can be counted in one hand. And even then, you probably don't want to lose out on HDR in those games

The only drawback is how MLA OLED achieves the brightness, with a dedicated white sub pixel. The colour accuracy will never match QD-OLED. That said, it's exciting to see OLED finally take that leap forward! Direct competition is a great thing.

The 5 year warranty seems tempting. Seems like image retention / burn-in is a thing of the past with the newer QD-OLED and OLED panels. Otherwise, at least on the LG C3 TVs, I don't think they would dare to offer a 5 year warranty.
5 year warranty is not exactly 5 years anyway. After year 2, you have to pay for labour if repairs are needed, although the parts needed are free. Its in the fineprint. Might as well call it a 2 year warranty with some benefits after
Burn in is sadly not gone quite yet. I’ve managed to get burn in on my Alienware QD-OLED after about 3000 hours (~7 months in my case). Although in defence of the panel, it was used as a pc monitor for work quite extensively, so it’ll be less of an issue for TVs I assume.
@@ChrisFhey sad to hear that. You might still have warranty on the display itself, but even then it's not that fun to deal with warranty return periodically because of burn-in. There's an Asus OLED Gaming Monitor coming soon with an LG OLED panel. The panel is 27 inch, flat, 240hz and the most important part is that it has a heatsink behind the display. The heatsink cools the image, and as I've read the heatsink itself might be a good thing to prevent burn-in.

I think this innovation could be a good thing for LG but I wouldn't be to quick on buying these without some actual real life time testing being done . A 70% boost of brightness brings to mind potential problems . #1 would be burn in especially with gaming even with heat sink protection technology . LED technology reduces heat build up dramatically but unless LG has configured a new bulb a 70% increase on top of how bright an vibrant the earlier TVs are I would have to see some serious stats on what they have done to achieve this with longevity . And last is the offering of a longer warranty . The longer it is on electronics could mean extra issues .
You need to understand two things - 70% is increase in brightness over non Evo panels like B2. Secondly it’s micro lensing responsible for biggest boost - simply directing light towards the viewer so technically that doesn’t change the light output just directivity
We don't need too high brightness. We just need the realism picture quality like we can feel in the situation. Like 3d picture also great motion and color
1.From the price pov, the one who's getting killed is mla. It will be available only on the expensive G series. 2. Qd oled have better colors, it does'nt have a white pixel who dilutes colors. 3. I don't trust a tv with micro lenses, i had a older LG led tv with lenses who unglued themselves from the heat, and there was bright dots where the lenses were glued. After lenses were glued back, there was still noticeable white dots, because the lenses get bad in time.( Lg does not have lenses warranty! ) This was with big led lenses. I think it will be a pain in the a*s to glue back micro lense if they fall in a slim oled (probably will need LG intervention). Also the lens will probably overheat the panel (the heat won't pass thru lens, only the light, maybe a little heat too) and increase the chance of burn in.
So, here we are in the first week of January 2023. I am needing a new TV. Do I purchase a 2022 model or wait for the 2023 models to come out. The only thing I do know is that I want a 65 inch TV. If I decide to go with Samsung, I would want the S95b. If I go with LG, then it's the C2 or G2 or wait for the C3 /G3. My TV will be wall mounted. More specifically, it will be corner mounted. My TV will be used for watching shows, etc. It will never be used for playing games. If I were even into games, then I would just buy a smaller TV from Wal-Mart to use for games
Of course it wont be a big leap. Once a display technology matures, it's essentially the same thing year after year with very slight improvements. The most significant improvement since LG started rolling out OLEDs in 2015 was going to a 120Hz panel. Second to that was the Evo panel which is... ok, but not amazing. There likely will not ever be any incentive to upgrade to another OLED for anyone who has a c9 or greater other than their TV going bad. The only upgrade path is to QDOLED.

I just have one glaring issue with it, and it annoys the hell out of me. The auto dimming on dark scenes. And I have a lot of movies with dark scenes. Then when I get a daytime scene you just see it flash back to normal, when it does that I rewind a little bit to compare the dark scene and it's a night and day difference. When you rewind you can actually see the details and it's much brighter. When watching it when it's dimmed, you can't make out any detail.

Interesting quirk about the dual HDMI input feature LG just announced, this feature (or a form of it) was present on the LG C8 and got removed with the release of the LG C9. (I own both the C8 and E9)
Probably not relevant to the new models but on the C8 multi-view doesn't work properly if HDR is enabled.

It's rumored to launch at $3200 actually, but it's still pretty heftily priced.
Peak brightness for sure is ok above 1000. But color brightness will increase as well and that does make a difference.
Thanks. Most detailed tv reviews I have seen on TH-cam - but presented in a clear way.
the issue is that LG is pricing out most of its potential buyers towards going for the samsung QD OLED. The price of the S95B is in the same category as buying the C2. So essentially if you want to buy something from LG that will compete with QD OLED you have to jump to the highest tier G series which is gonna be more expensive then buying the C series.
Nobodys buying the s95b over the c2 with samsungs terrible QC. LG is just doing just fine for their sales in the C series.
You may have some enthusiasts going for the S95B but the vast majority of the general public are still buying the C2
those who go for the S95B are buying it just for the panel alone. Everything else from quality to usability is better on the LGs. I personally prefer Google TV but heck webOS is better than the horrible Tizen on Samsung
Than.
NOT then.

MLA OLED and Mini LED are big upgrades over regular OLED. Need a 34-38" MLA OLED or Mini-Led monitor from LG.
@@davidviloria7737 *"MLA OLED and Mini LED are big upgrades over regular OLED. Need a 34-38" MLA OLED or Mini-Led monitor from LG."*
"Mini LED" has nothing to do with OLED.
It’ll be in the C4
Exactly. LG doesnt want to pay extra for DTS and Samsung for Dolby Vision. Sucks

Same, 65” CX with zero regrets 🙂

Any signs of possible Panasonic QD OLEDs?
Im still using my C9 as my daily work/media driver... Idk if im just so used to it, but i dont find myself needing "MORE" brightness... however this smarter lighting technology might move me to want to upgrade this year.
C9 was brighter than the newer versions. They artificially lowered the peak brightness on later models to increase panel longevity and also decrease screen burn in risk
Looks like I'll be focusing my buying interest on the Samsung and Sony
So I *have* to go G3 if I want the new brightness improvements compared to last year? That's kind of unfortunate since I won't be wall mounting.
Will there be any other brighter OLEDs this year?
You can find a $20 quality pair of legs that fits the universal VESA mount everywhere on Amazon. That's what I'm going to do. The QD-OLED is still brighter, but the overall APL (Average Picture Level) is higher on the G3.
@@Investor9872 for my set up I would need a central base not legs. The stand I use is not very wide.

It should as you are basically directing light centrally.
You are my favorite comedian.
@@getsideways7257 sorry did you actually think I was seriously saying that we will literally have something as bright as the sun in our rooms? 😂

LONGER WARRANTY TIME MAY MEAN THAT THEY ARE SURE OF THIS Tv COMPONENT (MATRIX)
You need to understand two things - 70% is increase in brightness over non Evo panels like B2. Secondly it’s micro lensing responsible for biggest boost - simply directing light towards the viewer so technically that doesn’t change the light output just directivity
8:30, DTS/X decoding through an LG Soundbar - Will this be available on the 2022 as well Vincent?
Also the lens will probably overheat the panel (the heat won't pass thru lens, only the light, maybe a little heat too) and increase the chance of burn in.
how mad is QUANTUM rn?

But don’t you want to pay for his settings

So, here we are in the first week of January 2023. I am needing a new TV. Do I purchase a 2022 model or wait for the 2023 models to come out. The only thing I do know is that I want a 65 inch TV. If I decide to go with Samsung, I would want the S95b. If I go with LG, then it's the C2 or G2 or wait for the C3 /G3. My TV will be wall mounted. More specifically, it will be corner mounted. My TV will be used for watching shows, etc. It will never be used for playing games. If I were even into games, then I would just buy a smaller TV from Wal-Mart to use for games
well at least it seems that I will not regret buying my c2, it does not seem that the c3 will be a big leap
You're delusional if you expect a big leap between two TV's from back to back years.
What are they going to do with the burn-in problem?
First Q symphony, now Wow Ochestra. What's next? Sonny's Jawdrop Ensemble? Panasonic's Bang Band? I swear these marketing names gets more terrible year on year lol
it's insulting. who the hell sat in a room an decided on this? what a bunch of bizzare people.

I think if C2 prices drop with C3 launch I'll get a C2. There were some good black friday deals but I didnt get one at the time.
I ve got the same plan. Specially since not much of difference C2 and C3.
The brighter WRGB gets the more desaturated the colours become. QD-OLED is better tech. Fact.
Indeed.
THIS. ☝️☝️☝️
SAMSUNG has a dirty campaign and marketing, paid reviews, Samsung TVs break down as soon as the warranty expires, problem with lines on screen , dead pixels , broken screens ,the power supply burns out as well as the motherboard..........
@@stanko4922 Samsung and Samsung Displays are different companies.
Samsung Displays provides the panel in the Sony a95K and there is no proof to backup anything you are saying in regards to that tv
Fact? Man are there many guys here with more pride than logic.
The MLA collect light to be sent out, which would be otherwise lost. This it will do for all colours. So I would expect no change between the base color to white volume. Just a higher brightness level overall.
So buy Panasonic last year's 77LZW now or wait for LG 77G3 to come out? Panasonic's 77MZW does not seem to be an option to wait for due to missing MLA. The 77LZW does not have MLA either indeed but is available now and known to be great.
I'd definitely buy the G3 over the C3. Last year it only had heat sink over it but this year it also has mla technology over it too. There will be noticeable differences between the two TVs this year compared to last year. But I want QD OLED and I want LG or Panasonic to do it as although Sony QD OLED is great, I think Panasonic can make theirs better. I intend to use it for movies and TV shows mostly and only occasionally play games for a couple of hours so I hope if not this year then next year they go QD OLED
I have no fawkin idea what mla is. But I also don't wanna wait another year for the price to go down, so I'm going to best buy to buy a g2 this Thursday if they have any. Excited since it'll be my first oled. Hope mla is worth any hype for you guys though!
@@NYC_Goody How do you like your new oled? Once you go oled you can't go back.
@@XenogearsPS best buy rep sold me on the c2 instead. Told him I wasn't sure of my viewing angles specifically so it'd be nice if I could adjust the mount. He said the g2's doesn't really adjust and that the c2 has the same panel, it's just not as bright. I love it. The size plus oled makes it feel like a massive upgrade. I've read about the service remotes, but I don't wanna void my warranty 3 weeks in. I'd say it's a deal breaker enough for me to go to Sony if I didn't game. But I hear the LG is the better option for gaming, so.
@@NYC_Goodythat’s what worried about the OLED auto dimming, I haven’t had a OLED before and was worried about this but no one seems to talk about it? Is your constantly dimming in and out?
Would you recommend to buy the C2? I’m actually thinking to buy the G2 but OLED’s all have this auto dimming issue and I hear it’s quite aggressive
@@lekshuuuuu I don't know about all oleds, because lg are the only ones I've heard about this issue. For instance, people I talk to about tvs on a 4k TV mention that lgs the only brand with the issue and that their Sony oleds don't do it at all. That aside, it's not constantly doing it, it just does it during prolonged dark scenes. It's still annoying because I was playing Diablo 4 the other day which had a lot of dark and there's a lot of movies I own with dark scenes. If you can look past that, the c2 is a great TV otherwise. If not, I'd probably recommend one of sonys oleds
I like the Samsung S95c TV with 2000 nits of brightness
When you get the g3, can you please find out if more electricity is being used through the mla pixels? I fear that these mla tvs are going to be more susceptible to burn in if they use more electricity. Also, the fact that the c3 doesn't have mla and no heatsink kinda reinforces my theory. Mla probably pushes the pixels harder than ever.
@El Cactuar you're right
Then why would the g3 be the only tv in their lineup with a 5 year warranty with burn in coverage?
