    Wow so MLA is actually a foundational improvement in OLED and doesn't compromise viewing angles at all, that's a surprise.
    In theory they could still boost brightness even further if they did start to limit viewing angles.
    (Now I really wonder what would happen to QD-OLED with MLA? Probably 2,000 nits after calibration.)

      Now I seriously want samsung to make a 50inch microled to destroy LG 9000k what is all content displayed at d65 right so basically LG is gonna have to force filmmakers to start making there films in 9000k
      With microled technology you can have d65 and and bright as far as you can drive them leds to over 10000nits and it will be a pure RGB panel so yea if I have to sacrifice D65 for more brightness then staying with the older panels for now is a better idea I don't want a blue picture

    • @TorqueFormulaWon
      @TorqueFormulaWon ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure but if you search "LG new micro lens array" or similar, there are articles about the sizes with the increased brightness for relevant models which from memory I think include the 55 inch. 65 inch and 77 inch.
      Don't take my word for it though.
      I just bought the C2 in December which was my first oled in 48 inch size which is still very large for the bedroom size I have it in.
      In some ways I regret purchasing that as at the time I didn't know it was 55 inch+ sets that had the increased brightness and now LG seem to be making a very large step up year to year if 60% increase is indeed true.
      I want to know about the smaller size improvements in brightness but the pixels are too close together in smaller sets for the same amount of brightness increase. Is is heat that means brightness can't be pushed up?

    I had the opportunity to watch a couple of OLEDs in short succession - a B7 and a C2, both 55in models. You could sort of tell that B7 got a bit dark in brighter scenes, and it's OS was very jerky with HBO Max. C2 was definitely bright enough. I will probably get a 77" C2 or C3 at the end of the year, depending on the price difference between the models - Today the difference between a 77" C1 and C2 is 200€, so that's definitely doable.

    This may finally be the OLED I might choose to replace my first HDR TV, a Sony x930d. That TV handled highlights and color better than the OLED I got a year later. Last year's OLEDs were the first to match or slightly exceed that capability, while obviously also improving shadows. But I wanted something that would be a significant improvement on the highlight range before considering to replace that screen. Ultimately, TVs are devices that I like to buy for the long term, like gaming consoles, so like a new generation of gaming consoles, I want the upgrade to feel like a massive leap, and this finally appears to be the right step for that.
    That being said, I'll probably wait a year after it's launch to buy the C3, in order to get it at a cheaper price, as my income is not the greatest at the moment, and that would also allow me more time to save some money.

      I would do that too, I bought a LG CX two years ago and I'm really happy with it but those new Meta panels are tempting. • @AndyGilleand
      @AndyGilleand ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TorqueFormulaWon Even my C6 has plenty brightness if I wanted to use it in the living room for SDR content. I calibrate SDR to 175 nits in my bedroom and that's only about half the way it can go. Remember, full field brightness isn't particularly important for real world usage as it is rare for the APL to get bright enough for ABL to matter.

      I think he listed that in the previous video on this topic... I think it's missing from the A Series and B Series... I don't think Monitors or the CS was mentioned.... I don't even know if the CS was just a stop gap model to shift excess stock of certain parts or if they plan to keep making it. It is quite popular as a cheaper alternative to the C2 I feel. Vincent, is there no information on whether LGD has adjusted the subpixel control for lower refresh rates to prevent VRR-flickering? Or can we still assume that the panels are still only optimized for 120Hz operation?

    • @90lancaster
      @90lancaster ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they direction of technology is towards HIGHER refresh rates. a lower refresh isn't really beneficial in anyway I can think of.. except perhaps trying to get a panel to operate below 40 or 42fps for the purposes of showing 24fps Movies but since doubling works fine I don't really see the need. & it's only really useful for horrible frame rate videogames. which you really don't want anyone being encouraged to make.
      I agree though VRR Flicker is annoying but I think the move to a 240hz standard might get rid of it.

    • @hideff4982
      @hideff4982 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@90lancaster How should they get rid of it by just increasing the refresh rate to 240hz? Makes no sense. If the subpixel can't match the gamma curve for the entire refresh rate range, you will see flickering. Actually it could be even worse if you increase the refresh rate and you only optimize the gamma curve of the subpixel for 240hz for example. That's why it is still the only option on latest OLEDs to prevent VRR-flickering to set the display to fix 60Hz. With this method you will force the subpixel into a consistent overcharged state. Dark scenes would look constantly raised, which you can fix with the fine tune dark area settings, but it would eliminate nearly all the VRR-flickering which you would normally see if you set the display to 120Hz. Wider refresh rate range with subpixels only optimized for gamma level at a fixed refresh rate = the more VRR flickering you would see.

      MLA has zero impact on the panel itself , its just an aditional layer which redirects the light from the panel

Yes we have pure laser and burning metals to give pure colour at intensity . I think cartoons will use max BT2020 the most - same for HDR - look to see how much HDR stuff you watch - I love old movies - so not so important . Other factors may mean more to you motion handling/gaming / GUI - all the latest flagship TVs will look stunning . Will Samsung develop it's own MLA ?
