I was watching the video and it dawned on me how much editing must go into this and the time it must have taken to develop the style of these videos into a cohesive and coherent form. Thomas Game Docs must have an incredible set of skills and ability to take what was their ideas about these topics and turn them into this scripted form, with such an engaging narrative and clear visual themes. Not to mention getting any footage of games (whether it's playing the games themself, or sourcing footage online), deciding the music, creating the effects in whatever editing software, finding whatever music or visual assets needed. These videos are an incredible undertaking and it really dawned on me tonight. Thank you for your incredible work and passion. I hope you read the comments and that this is able to brighten your day Thomas Game Docs!
I had a suspicion that Thwomp was voiced by Charles Martinet for a little while now. After reading up on the Mario Wiki in 2021, I clicked on a link to a video featuring Mario's voice clips from Super Mario 64. Unfortunately, that video has since been removed. Seeing you confirm that Martinet indeed voiced Thwomp with an unused Mario grunt is lovely! By extension, that means that Charles Martinet also is the voice of Whomp. The harp music from Super Mario Galaxy is relaxing. I also dig the Yoshi's Story cast trivia. You do a great job on these videos of yours!
This channel got questions I never ask or came in my mind and I never knew how much I wanted the answer for it! Amazing video again, Keep up the good work! You're amazing and a power star nonetheless!
And here I thought that it would be 15 minutes of just Thwomp investigation. Great video! I specially loved the ring fit one, I’m used hearing it and thought it was Nintendo gibberish
8:30 - I have roughly 150 hours in ring fit adventure from what I can remember, played through all 69 worlds across the 3 playthroughs , yes it has 69 worlds haha. I always assumed the voices after the 4 muscle groups said something like, “I’m still alive, I am feeling fine~” or similar, which was very fitting when you’re on your 50th squat of the session.
9:42 before it was called Yoshi story it was originally called Yoshi’s Island 64 but the Debs didn’t like that name and they’ve used Yoshi’s island before and I think that Yoshi’s Island 64 sound of the weird so instead they changed it to Yoshi”’s story
@@TomWoop Not entirely... I remember hearing somewhere that the sound designer actually got the laughing clip of Charles Martinet from a sample disk he voiced for before even knowing he'd be the voice of Mario.
Could have been real easy to cut this into three or more videos drip fed over a month or so, but to promise everything in the intro and deliver it all is very refreshing to see. Honest journalism is a rarity.
13:24 I found that grunting sound while digging through the audio files of sm64ds and until today I never knew what it was and what it was for glad to have that mystery solved :)
Great video Thomas. You should do more Nintendo music secrets videos. Especially from the older Nintendo games like N64 or Snes era. Great stuff keep it up!
Hi Thomas! I've been following you for almost three years and have watched all of your videos! I remember a video where you talked about how Taro Bando (I think it was him) got the sounds for the original Animal Crossing game by traveling into a forest and recording bugs and other nature sounds. I'm curious, what happened to that video?
Those cut pieces from Galaxy 1 and 2 are so good The Galaxy 1 Bubble song reminds me of Final Fantasy Prelude theme and galaxy08 from Galaxy 2 sounds like something out of Dragon Quest
My personal favourite diegetic song by a fictional in-game band is "Jasmine" by The Hairy Lobsters (actually by Miles Gilderdale) in Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse. LOL I love that "favourite food" bonus track on the Yoshi's Story soundtrack CD! Hajime Wakai is another one of the great Nintendo composers (and I agree, curry is where it's at). 🍛
I find it so crazy that Charles Martinet ALSO voices Thwomps., i also find it so crazy that he was late to the interview and used up all the space on the recording thing and he got the job.
Chronic Trigger also has a few unused songs which are in the game data and on the OST album. The most interesting one being "Singing Mountain", likely for an area of the same name that wasn't developed for the final game. It's a beautiful song (like most of CT's tracks) so it's a shame it was never used.
@@Ilikecats25 the songs are sequences, so it uses a sound font. Since the songs are unused and there are some used sequenced songs they changed the instruments and sound different from the original Galaxy game
I actually remember hearing the unused world 1 theme in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (out of context). It was either used in Super Mario 3D World as music for one of the worlds, or Mario for Scratch 4 as music for the level select. Probably the second one, though.
That early demo clip of Super Mario Galaxy came out 18 years ago. Just reminding you how old you are. It's fine. We all die someday. That day grows sooner and sooner.

Charles Martinet really is Mel Blanc for Nintendo. Also it’s such a shame that those Mario Galaxy tracks were cut from the final releases.

The master got replaced by a dude who does a Mario impression weaker than most random people doing Mario impressions.
This channel is such a comfort blanket for me. Your voice is so kind and expressive. And the content is actually always interesting.

Ghey
As a kid playing Super Mario 64, I called thwomps "err blocks" because they are blocks that say "err" (real creative, I know).
That's real cute. :D
To be honest I literally spent 2 years playing pokemon silver and crystal as a child and every time I'd use the move strength I'd go "ffftt-anya"
thats hilarious lmfao

It's crazy how Charles Martinet is basically every important character in Mario 64 ^^' Well except Peach.
Now I'm curious if it's possible to mod other characters like Paarthurnax into the game. Realy max out the charles
Shoot, you gave me spoilers-
I keep thinking about how Super Mario Advance had only 2 voice actors.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't voice Yoshi or Daisy either.

Based on how BGM_IN_BUBBLE was used, I think that it was only meant to be in the demo, since the bubble appeared to be how the demo level started.
6:15 it then dawned on me that that motif was also used for the Koopa Brothers in Paper Mario 64.
