@@adrianh332 apparently, he wasn't so private.
He confessed to his health-care provider that had about 150 different sexual partners in the decade prior to 1987, and had not used condoms, and his last sexual experience was in 1987, without using a condom.

@@Mr.Majestic77 Firstly it was pretty common for homosexuals in the era immediately prior to the 80s and following decriminalisation of male homosexual sex (1967) for gays to have insanely large numbers of sexual contacts (making up for lost time and with new freedoms) but they were often highly anonymous encounters so my point about him being a very private person still holds. Secondly what you've said is basically anecdotes (no offence intended) they could certainly be true but they could also be exaggerated (by any party involved) that's why eyewitness testimony in court is considered a much lower tier of evidence than most others. Thirdly you appear to be approaching this minefield through modern eyes and morés, one really needs to look at it in the context of the time in which they're made, one sees the same mistakes in those who get outraged by historical racism/behaviour and attitudes, you absolutely are of your time and it's unreasonable to apply 21 century morals to 20th century situations. Dr.Acer was most likely trying to protect his practice and reputation in a time when rampant homophobia was the norm and his sexual orientation would seriously have affected his livelihood.
Edit: fourthly hindsight is always 20/20.

It was written off as a gay disease in the beginning but until heterosexuals ppl negan getting it is when ppl started taking notice. Then blood transfusions. It was you did something to deserve it. I’ve never believed she got this from her dentist. She is lying about her actions. So dentist had to change everything because of this. If you believe the dentist is responsible is pretty pathetic. Give me a good argument about how she got this from the dentist. But we all believed it because everyone was so scared and ignorant about the disease. He apparently did it purposely which is completely different than what they want you to believe.

I tried to answer this letter from Laurie Watkins before, but my post was removed. So I hope TH-cam will allow this one to stay. First of all, both Kimberly and her father George asserted that they did not believe it was intentional. George even said that claiming it was intentional was too simplistic. A phylogenetic study asserted that a 99.4% certainty that Kimberly's HIV came from Dr. Acer. I myself heard about a somewhat famous woman being tricked into thinking she had AIDS so she would give up her 'lover's list.' I was so curious what she would think about Ms. Bergalis that I e-mailed her a brief report about her, including her assertions of virginity, just to see what she would say. Then my cousin childed me for a lack of compassion, asking, "Why remind her of that bad time in her life?" So Ms. Watkins, can't you show compassion to the living member of the Bergalis family and not post such skepticism?
