They are supposed to..I was a dental assistant for many years and we sterilized each instrument with an autoclave..We wore masks and gloves each and every time. The office was the cleanest one I ever worked in. Before that I worked for one dentist in 93 for one day. He didn't wear gloves and didn't sterilize instruments. He would wipe them down with alcohol. I was shocked. I questioned why there wasn't an autoclave!!! He said there was really no need to cause the alcohol will kill the germs. WTF! I quit and reported him to OSHA. Because they're the easiest to find, also Dr Acer was a very private person, there aren't many pictures of the guy out there.

They are supposed to..I was a dental assistant for many years and we sterilized each instrument with an autoclave..We wore masks and gloves each and every time. The office was the cleanest one I ever worked in. Before that I worked for one dentist in 93 for one day. He didn't wear gloves and didn't sterilize instruments. He would wipe them down with alcohol. I was shocked. I questioned why there wasn't an autoclave!!! He said there was really no need to cause the alcohol will kill the germs. WTF! I quit and reported him to OSHA. He was looking to cut corners as much as he could. .
Back then, dentists didn't wear gloves ! This case is what forced dentists to have to wear gloves. This is now called PPE ( Personally Protection equipment), which includes gloves, masks, safety glasses,and disposable lab jackets!
