My family that moved from Rock Island IL. in the 50s to Memphis TN couldn't forget these burgers and made them at least once a week at home. I grew up thinking they were called scrambled hamburgers as that was what my family named them. Here in Memphis, people have never heard of such a thing but my family still loves them.

I steam my meat use salt pepper and a bit of chicken bouillon and and a touch of flour. Don’t know why the bouillon and flour but that’s what I was told by several people. I put onion flakes in the meat but use Raw onions on top mustard and pickle but NO CHEESE.

What kind of sorcery is this?!?!? Never heard of this before, but in the infamous (3 Amigos) words of Tommy Boy, "me likey"... loving the diversity in the recipes as you gents always come up with delicious, nay extraordinary yet practical and yummy recipes...another banger!!!
I grew up eating something very similar at a small diner in Minnesota called “The Bungalow”. They were just called burgers there. They had round bar stools at the counter and a few booths. The counter surrounded the cook station. There was a big pit that the beef was steamed in. This was all they served other then homemade cookies and bars. You could order the regular burger or burger with onions. They were small chopped onions raw added to the steamed beef, mustard and pickles. There was no ketchup even available. They were delicious!
Wow, thank you so much fam! We love all of griddle cooking, and our intent for sure is to share what can be done on every griddle. We love that these work for you on true Blackstone! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
Nice one guys, I love learning new things! I have never really heard of the Maid Rite. Your video is definitely inspiring, and this is a must try. We have made loose meat sandwiches before, but never steamed the meat with broth. Where I remember loose meat sandwiches is from the show "Rosanne" growing up. I always thought it sounded interesting, but we always just made Sloppy Joes instead. I really enjoy cooking and food in general, but when it has a story behind it, it's even better. Griddle On!
Wahoo! Exactly! I think Roseanne put them on the map!😂😂 Locals have loved them forever, but there is a ton of history there for sure. We really enjoyed these, and the flavor was incredible!! Much love brother, GRIDDLE ON INDEED!🔥🔥

There w a s a little "Mom and Pop" place just south of town on Rt. 9 thatade and sold what was called a "Michigan Hotdog". VERY GOOD STUFF. Basically a Hotdog with ground beef similar to this loaded on it. Try it, Loose meat filling on a hotdog. Use a Hoagie Roll so you can gey b a good hold on it. I lived in Iowa for a number of years and these simple sandwiches are a staple for families there. My only critiques, if I may, would be 1) mix some mustard into the ground beeef instead of adding it to the bun - it will flavor the beef and not the AWESOME Martin's roll, which is the goal and 2) MINCE your onions much finer. This way the onions will be incorporated better into the ground beef mixture. The larger chopped/diced onions can overpower some bites of the sammich instead of flavoring it like the minced onions will. 3) IF you must put pickles on (which is a sin to many Iowans) put those on top of the meat mixture. 4) IF you are gonna use cheese (again, a sin to many Iowans), use white american or provolone under the beef mixture. pickles go on the TOP. Loose meat goes on bottom bun so less meat falls out. Slice of cheese also helps keep meat from falling out. I'm from Nebraska, we had diner called Tastee Inn that served loose meat sandwiches & Onion chips. Great receipe.
My folks are from Iowa. I was born in the pnw. My dad had to cook one since my mom was laid up from eye surgery. He made this for the first time. I thought he forgot the sauce for sloppy joes.😂
If you liked that one there's a few more ingredients that will get it closer to the real one. I was born in the founding city and lived in Iowa most of my life. When I move to another state I had to recreate it. I use both fresh and dried onion. Along with what you have also add soy sauce, brown sugar, chicken broth, and apple cider vinegar.

I'm still waiting for all the seasoning
When cooking the beef, add a chicken bullion cube or chicken stock. It's Maid-Rite's secret! Thank me later
Reminds me of Taco Bell and their Bell Burger from many years ago .. 🤓
Taco Bell has a burger? How did we not know that?!?😱🤣
Thank you so much for watching! Griddle on!!!😁❤️🤙
@@waltwins I’m dating myself - Taco Bell did offer a Burger like you just made called the Bell Burger. They used their taco meat for it. This was back in the 60’s when they offered it. I liked it although it was a bit messy but was quite good compared to the other fast food offerings. Luv’d your video - Brought back memories. Just might have to have a go and make a couple .. .. 😁

No ketchup. Plus Where's the sweet pickle juice at the end?
Thanks for watching - there seem to be dozens of variations - we followed a recipe said to be closest to the original. We’ve learned that it changes by region, but we’re sure you know more about that than we would, cheers!

For sure fam, thank you so much for watching!!🤙🤙
This may be considered sacrilege but.....I would have to put an obscene amount of oooey gooey cheese in with the loose meat. Otherwise it looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Seems delicious but 1 of you just said Sodium is Salt, Sodium is not salt, its chemicals, a simple google search will show you, no1 should eat sodium, use sea salt or other real salts instead. But point is Sodium is absolutely not salt. cheers
4 minutes of chatter before cook starts.
Thanks for watching - feel free to scrub forward to the cook - we have a great support base that appreciates the banter. Cheers fam.🤙🤙
life is too short to watch this time waster.
Yet long enough to leave the comment. What was your intention with the comment, to make us feel bad?
In Wichita KS these are called Nu-Ways.. and coulda swore there’s some type of mustard powder involved but not sure since NuWay has kept their recipe under wraps for 60+ years
Good old Iowa staple sandwich!
