These were still being raced in the 1980s in NZ and were faster than most of the local 1100 - 1300cc superbikes of the era, even though they ran skinny tyres (limited by clearance of the chain). The riders had HUGE balls.
The legendary TZ750... from back in the day when a 180 rear tire was huge. I saw one compete in a club race at Westwood, BC in the mid-80s. Old bike, over-the-hill rider... devastated all comers. Amazing machine, fantastic sound. The RZ 500 was just too civilized and never did quite have same the angry-hornet fury to its exhaust note. Thanks for posting this vid!
I raced a tz750 a #175 for 7 yrs in AFM and AMA pro events got my FIM license on it. loved riding it . 310pnds wt 120 hp any that made more didn't for long, broke their crankcases. been there , done that
Angry, angry, angry bike !!!! I wish I had one. I had the pleasure of racing an '83 TZ 250, for a couple of seasons, but never got to get on the 720. Love it !!!!!
One of the rarest and expensive bikes to achieve and ride...I stuck that on my head everytime I want to ride one like this, if I only have the engine...to get the taste"...
I wish that i ever could boy those kind of old racers! For instance... A Honda RS 500cc two stroke, from 84 to 85 or 86, or a Yamaha yzr.... to name a few! Love those olde two stroke racers
actually, this bike is older than a rd500, which had 88hp. the rg500gamma had 105 or anything in that region. but the 3cyl tz750 really has "only" 105-110 hp. which is enough, since its not as heavy... fast and awesome sound. love it!!!
750 2 Stroke awesome ... great to hear and see them in action. I saw some nice ones at the Barry Sheene Memorial in Sydney. Cheers from The Perfect Corner
Yep,seen a cr500 road legal super moto! gearboxes r a bit close, but some enduro bikes have a wider spread. Friend also had a gas gas 250 on the road- motocross with lights and generator. even the motocross bikes r starting to be fukin 4 strokes. Remember the bimota injected 2 stroke twin? u got a bag of spark plugs with it from the dealer-it fouled that much-no shit!
ya i know, in the ama supercross/motocross series, nobody rides 2 strokes anymore, they are all 4 strokes, they still make them but i think pretty soon withing a year or so they are just going to completly stop making them, all u do to get longer gears is get a sprocket with more teeth and your set.
I also thought of Richard when I saw this. I raced at Summit a lot back then , but on an RD350 and a GS 750. Can’t imagine riding a TZ 750 on ghat track but I’d like to try.
They do make 50cc injected 2 strokes that pass new emissions. It seems that the bigger the cylinder the less likely to pass they are, just from observation. ie here they stopped selling anything over 250cc, then 125cc per cylinder, then they only sold 50cc. Maybe the quantity of naughties is measured rather than the ratio? They'll ban breathing soon because of CO2 !!
Its kinda sad how 2-strokes are slowing dying out, 2-strokes have so much more potential than 4-strokes, cc per cc 2-stroke is just better, and all because of emissions issues, its sad really, but still in midst of that, it would be awesome if someone made the ultimate 2-stroke machine, that would be tight as hell, the latest tz250s made about 100horsepower. imagine 750cc more.
how about a 1500cc 8 cylinder TZ? U could at one time by crank cases to fit saab 2 stroke cylinders on, with special cranks etc, this way 5 or 6 cylinder 2 strokes with about 1500cc were possible!!
Ahhh...Nothing like a little 2-stroke smoke to get the blood moving. This bike was banned as a legal street bike because of its amazing power to weight ratio. My father still has a mint condition '85 RZ500.
I had toomey make me a custom pair of 7 inch stingers for my rz after fighting with spec 2 who didnt want to do it. noise regulations he said it absolutely screamed and popped and pinged.
Fox250R It also looks like NOBODY ever heard of "Blendzall" Gold label, which is what most two strokes ran & it does smell exactly like "Castrol R" but it's mixed with the fuel. Castrol R is added to the crank and wouldn't give out a smell unless it's in a four stroke.

I saw that bike at Westwood too, old & ratty, and very, very fast, good memories.

FUCK FOUR STROKES!! Omfg I love TZs, real race bikes. Owning a 750 would be the ultimate..

That “3 cylinder tz” has 4 cylinders. 105-110 hp was plenty for that frame and tires .
750 2 Stroke awesome ... great to hear and see them in action. I saw some nice ones at the Barry Sheene Memorial in Sydney.

Bar none, the baddest 2-stroke streetbike ever built.

Every time I ride my 1972 Honda CB100, I always imagine that bike having Yamaha's 750cc two stroke four-in-a-row.
This reminds me of 3 things.1;Richard Chambers,2;Castrol R,3;Summit Point WV!
I also thought of Richard when I saw this. I raced at Summit a lot back then , but on an RD350 and a GS 750. Can’t imagine riding a TZ 750 on ghat track but I’d like to try.

that beautiful 2-stroke smell.....
No TZ750s were ever sold as streetbikes, they were over the counter road racing "track only" equipment. No lights, no plates, no side stands, etc.
can't beat the sound of a 2-stroke =D
Wicked.......Nasty......Beautiful......
two stoke is the best!!!! i love it
This is beautiful
Please make the blue smoke and aroma come out of the left upper pipe and no need to keep wrapping it up until you do!
