Inside a Minimalist Home with a Magical Garden (House Tour)

  • Increasing the efficiency of an existing residence, Kart Projects crafts K House, a minimalist home with a considered spatial plan. A house tour of the residence reveals a dwelling strongly connected to its external garden space, speaking to the virtues of mindful design.
    Located in the Melbourne suburb of Fairfield, House K possesses a similar architectural history to the neighbouring builds. A weatherboard residence, the existing home was slightly worn and featured a small extension that was almost unusable. The original brief requested the existing house be reinterpreted as a minimalist home with a new extension added to allow for an altered internal layout. However, the condition of the essential architecture of the house meant that a more substantial renovation was required. The resulting minimalist home retains much of the original garden space and effortlessly connects the landscape to the interior.
    Though repainted, the minimalist home retains its original weatherboard façade. Only the addition of a red fence outside the building offers a clue to the renovation work that lies beyond. A house tour of the home begins with a corridor intentionally kept dark in order to showcase the artwork purchased by the client. Compressing down into a steel transition space, the corridor leads to a large pivot door. A nearby study and library space represents the last portion of the original house. The extension space is defined by a large storage volume and day bed, which together establish different zones, including the living room and dining area. Reinforcing the spatial plan, a coffered ceiling gently delineates the areas below.
    Extending the spatial strategies of the interior into the garden, Kart Projects creates a series of social amenities. The pool sits elevated on one side - in proximity to an outdoor dining area - whilst the space behind is detailed by a small deck and lawn which maximise the functionality of the landscape. Turning to face the exterior of the minimalist home, occupants will see a red-painted façade exclusive to the rear of the building.
    In materiality, House K reflects a taste for minimalism. The material palette is stripped back, consisting primarily of timber-lined features sitting below the coffered ceiling. In the kitchen, the visual impact of a black kitchen island and bench is contained by means of elevation, so that the amenities appear to float in place. In addition, the interior design of the home is uplifted by the inclusion of multiple skylights.
    Exerting influence over all aspects of the project - including the architecture, interior design and garden landscaping - Kart Projects establishes a cohesive and contemporary home. House K embodies the thorough execution of a singular design concept, expressing the importance of effective spatial planning during renovation projects.

    The back addition looks like a slice of paradise! Love the way Melbourne renovation project houses might look like a simple quaint traditional cottage in the front but could be an actual modern spaceship in the back and you'd never know from the street ❤️

    I love this home and walk past it daily. Very well considered treatments of all spaces. I knew something good was tucked behind that cool facade. Well done to the architect and clients for allow such a transformation.

    Design is often understated...where the ordinary as treated as extraordinary.
    Obvious care and attention is given to the original volume of the house...details are carefully added...in a very intentional way.
    Success...is never loud.
    Good job.

    Beautyful. I like the use of the intense red colour to add to the modern feeling.

    The cenital light in the kitchen is lovely as well as useful. GJ. :-)

    The way he explained the solid walls becoming dashed lines in the actual built project is so good. Such a bold extension, and good job doing that garden, but I feel like the house isn't fully revealed here.

    The majority of this channel is an excellent example of good content not needing gimmicky presentation. Thank you for not presenting yourself as a typical, annoying, socially-delayed TH-camr that, for some reason, feels compelled to turn everything into a catchphrase.
    _“Whatzup JamFam!?! Itz yaboi Whammy Jammy commin atcha…”_
    It doesn’t confuse me to see so many socially-delayed children (TH-camrs) acting like fools. It confuses me that it doesn’t appear to bother anyone but me. It’s even satirized in popular media (Corey from Corey’s World, Family Guy) and people *still* behave that way. Am I the only real person here, and everyone else is simply code in the alien computer simulation?

    This house has some incredible ideas and looks stunning.
    Although having the music system sitting in the middle/end of what looks like a corridor seems strange!
    Does the music travel around the house OK, or does it get muffled as it has to bounce off of walls?
    It looks great but I would of put it on the OTHER SIDE of the central box, actually in the living room!
    But hey, its THEIR HOUSE, they can have it THEIR WAY!!

    Love this renovation and 99% of it is great. Just one thing I don't think works, which is mixing the fishes with the taps, then with yet another finish on the pendant.... looks very miss matched and everything was an after thought rather than a deliberate choice but I imagine that's the interiour designers fault.

    • @FairleyTrashed
      @FairleyTrashed ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it’s cheaper to construct pools that are elevated as a huge chuck of a pool budget is the earth works. I’m wondering if they don’t have a fence because the pool walls act as one for reg purposes?

    • @edgargut
      @edgargut ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FairleyTrashed Yeap that's what I was thinking too. I understand the safety rule but I'm not a big fan of it to be honest, most of this houses would look way better without those fences.

    This to me is a case of a well designed extension that is just a bit over styled with the colors and millennial boutique hotel art. But the landscaping and pool design in the back are fabulous. It’s not easy to make an elevated pool look this luxurious.

    The muted colors of the front facade. It's black and white! And...the "background music" is so loud, closed caption must be turned on to get anything out of this. Don't they teach sound mixing for the consumer anymore? Or is it just sound mixing for the mixer.

    I wish I could say I like this video, because it is beautiful. But you lost me several times because you never present how the entirety of the addition relates to the existing house. Even if briefly, you should show a plan and section. All I'm seeing is curated camera moves of lovely spaces without any context of how it all goes together into an integrated space. For example, how does 2:10 relate to 2:30 and then 2:40? You say the words "left" and "right" but I really have to work hard to see these connections. It's a very disjointed presentation of a house that I'm sure is probably integrated, but I get no mental model of the entirety of the space. You seem to be in love with slow-mo camera moves for the sake of a beautiful graphic. But it doesn't help to understand how the house is a "whole."

As an australian living in USA for many years its very refreshing to see good design as american design is so boring and backward here in US and california. The only thing I might suggest is give your presenters a coffee before they come on, they so droning and dull, and take them shopping, they look like granny dressed them. Designers have great design talent but no personal style.
