If you don't have a channel dedicated to wow lore you definitely should! I would love to just dive off into the wow lore from start to finish how you tell it.
WOW has way too many inconsistancies in lore and power, not the least of which is their timeline. Imagine a world where in the last 15 years, after defeating an world sized undead invasion, you've also dealt with the awakening of an earth shattering dragon, fighting elemental lords, discovering Pandaria and stopping the heart of an Old God, traveling to an alternate timeline and sorting out an entire planet, killing an Archimond (again), an invasion of demonic proportions and the discovery of yet another island continent, adding several allied races, defeating an archwarlock, discovering azerite, discovering yet another island continent, recuting more allied races, fighting a world war, being sucked into the depths of the ocean, fighting the leader of the fish people, fighting a fully fleshed Old God (again), going to the land of the dead, discovering several continents in the land of the dead, defeated several small badies and one big bad nipple-bot boss, returning to the land of the living, discovering the land of the dragons, recruting more allied friends, chasing and defeating bad dragons, returning home, discovering another, yeah another new island continent, some stony dwarves, fighting a bunch of spider people... And I'm summarizing, imagine the mental gymnastics of the people at Blizz to think this sounds like a viable 15 year timeline
It always baffled me that Blizzard went with "hey, you know these events that took two years to play through, and which would have taken far longer if actual armies were being moved across continents? Actually, in-world that stuff only took a year or less!"
Feels like a chill decade compared to the average DC / Marvel comics timeline, tbh. WoW is at its core high fantasy american comics, even the art style is reminiscent of it, get on board. ;)
@@dragovianknightBlizzard can't come up with any good original characters. They still heavily rely on WC3 characters to drive the story. Jumping 5-10 years per wow expansion would make sense storywise, pushing the narrative forwards, but they'd have to come up with new, good characters to replace the older ones.
It is absolutely mind boggling to say that time gated events that we played through and celebrated multiple holidays throughout only took place over the course of a few months to a year. Cheapened everything for me
If a "radiant song" is just a World Soul calling out to you. And if K'aresh had one before being consumed. Does that mean the Void already has a void titan?!
Revamping Queltalas and most likely the Island of Queldanas, is a good opportunity to introduce Spell Breaker as a hero class; make it a tank and dps class.
It amazes me how many people immediately pounce when a content creator makes a hopeful positive video. Why are you playing the game if you’re so jaded by the negative you can’t enjoy the positive? Thank you for this vid I’m looking forward to some new lore. Let’s see what the writing team can do!
Hate playing. It's like hate watching a series that fucked up over time. You don't even like it anymore. You just want to see how it ends and that's that.
The game is what it is, and I have a lot of history in it that makes me want to give a chance even if its not always the best game out there. In terms of Belluar though, he follows a cycle... He's super positive about the game, then in two weeks time he goes into damage control mode for the game and its issues, then two weeks after that he tells blizzard they're in trouble and then two weeks after that he says its their final chance to fix something and then two weeks after that it's another hype video where everything is looking the best its ever been.
I think you're missing a few key points. They're specifically pulling ARCANE and LIGHT and they are VOID. You mentioned how the Sunwell is tied to arcane and light specifically, but didn't mention the Nightwell which is effectively arcane and void and sits on massive ley lines that work as conduits for magical energy in universe. It's possible Beledar is embedded in a massive ley line that ties the Sunwell and the Nightwell together which would also help explain why it fluctuates between the two forms and makes it so incredibly important. If we treat ley lines as if they're the literal veins of Azeroth, as that's where the "blood of Azeroth" or Azerite was flowing from which is also arcane. Just some things to consider.
The Nightwell isn't void related though. It's just pure arcane. It may share some aesthetic staples with void magic but there's no indication they're connected.
The Void and Chaos/Fel magic are enemies, not friends. They don’t get along. There is no void in the Nightwell. If it DID have void power, I seriously doubt the Burning Legion would have been able to do anything with it, and they would have probably just smashed Suramar to make sure it could never be used against them by their enemies
Would love to see a confrontation between Azshara and the leaders of all the elves descendants such as Lorthemar , Thalyssra , Vereesa , Alleria , Tyrande etc like all of them basically meeting their progenitor o creator since they would all be there thanks to her actions in someway or another
I just can’t get excited about the lore anymore. I know it’s done to death but shadowlands did such massive, wide sweeping and irreversible damage to the lore that it’s hard to get invested in any of it anymore. Been playing a lot of classic lately and it’s insane how good the low fantasy approach for everything is.
If you haven’t already, I recommend Jediwarlock’s channel if you want lore explorations for solely classic. He does exploration, lore and theories, with new gems you might not know of. Sorry to read you’re not feeling Retail but hey, it is absolutely fine to be burnt out and prefer other pastures. Don’t feel pressured to keep up with Bellular’s channel. Feel free to look into others that capture your actual focus!
I said yesterday that I actually don’t plan on buying Midnight and I’ll just stick to Classic for a bit, maybe a year, but then I might be done forever with WoW. Shadowlands 100% killed any care I ever had for the lore, and Dragonflight and the War Within just hit on things I’ve never cared about. Midnight is a step in the right direction but way too little wayyyy too late. Literally MMOs like Wizard 101 have had player housing since their early days. WoW has never had an excuse to not do it properly. This convoluted lore makes no sense anymore and neither do the devs.
I remained very pumped for every new piece of content this expac has to offer and a HUGE part of that excitement comes from my ability to immerse myself in the lore, thanks to your content. Even the siren isles have been fun, thanks to the way you explained their significance. Thank you so much man for doing what you do! The only negative is wishing I had more time to level and play more alts! So I can feel closer to the main storyline 😅 I feel like I should be playing a human or blood elf paladin, or a void elf hunter! Instead I’m playing a dwarf mage. Anyways, thanks again. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
I keep imagining, although people aren’t big fans of Draenor, there was that part of the story when the orcs of Draenor became an allied race. We see that the Light was conquering the planet, led by Yrel. I wonder if she could appear in the war, perhaps as an enemy of the Dark Lords, maybe even a Garrosh Paladin, since the Garrosh from Draenor could have been recruited!
Garrosh was never born in that timeline. Grom's wife, Golka, was killed before we even got to WoD's events. The events of that Draenor, even before our involvement, were not the same. Large-scale, they matched similar story beats, but the details are very different. Example: Thrall was never born, despite his parents both being alive and present. Instead, they had a daughter. As it stands, the orcs who had "joined" Yrel's Army of the Light, were very much forced-conscription (similar to the attempt made on Illidan). But, that Army is bound to that world. They had no way off-world (unless they can fix Oshu'gun, the only crashed ship on Draenor), to join a greater force (ie: that universe's Army of the Light, if it even exists). And they likely do not have the means to replicate the Dark Portal in any capacity, as there were few orcs who knew, we killed them all, and we sealed what connections we had with that world after the Mag'Har Orc rescue.
Small addendum on Blood Elf Paladins - the Blood Knights never REALLY "sucked the Light from the Naaru", the Naaru in Question deliberately made them believe they did, but gave up its power willingly. "However, they were mistaken in their assumption that the naaru had been broken: events had been set in motion beyond their control, and M'uru had, in fact, feigned recalcitrance and willingly granted the Blood Knights his power in preparation for a long-set reckoning to come."
You know, ive had argument with people, still to this day, that belive blood elf are called blood elf because they joined the horde.. not because in a single day, the day silvermoon fell, the high elf went from a couple of tens of thousands of elf to not even 1000 total. Its from kaelthas himself in wc3, the frozen throne nelf campaign
Honestly their canonically low population could lead to them merging with Nightborne as a single nation. They have similar Highborne-like cultures except for the Sunwell (which is prolly gonna be Void corrupted so RIP Sunwell) changing their skintone; and ofc their racial leaders are both married and more than likely going to have a Nightborne/Blood Elf mixed kid by Midnight. If for the overall survival of both they merge, it’ll be pretty symbolic.
From the day of Blizzcon and hearing about a revamped Silvermoon I’ve been super excited for it. Add player housing and I lost it. But the delicious incoming lore (and potential Sylvanas re-appearance, conceivably with her brother Lirath), it may be my favourite expansion ever. Or my most hated. 😂
My theory for midnight is that Xalatath is going to destroy the sun to pledge Azeroth into darkness. It would be similar to Beledar’s phase shift or like how Argus was in the sky that one patch
@@Paul2hip8 cutting azeroth off from the godlike forces of Anshe (the sun as the Tauren call it) and Elune the moon is probably going to be the key part of midnight and is likely what the dark heart is actually for. Just not sure how. All i can say is that it feasts pretty strictly on void and arcane energy, likely because Neltharion designed it to attempt to contain the void and failed.
I really hope Blood Elves finally get some spotlight and it's not just them being pushed aside for the "Alliance-only-High-Elves' and the Vereesa + Alleria to take all the glory from them. God, I really really hope the Horde don't get shafted more than they already have for hero moments in the major storylines.
Minor but important correction: Void Gods and Void Lords are different entities. Void Gods are Naaru that have converted to the Void. Void Lords are who you're talking about in this video, the "Pantheon" of the Void.
Xal'atath is definitely of the species that are now the Ethereals. She was likely responsible for Dimensius gaining access to their world and was promised some elevation (maybe their world soul to become an Old God?) which wasn't delivered at the time (as she said "what was owed to [me]" or something to that effect). Look at her model, she wears the Ethereal wraps on her arms and legs. As the Harbinger of Dimensius, she absolutely was involved in the destruction of the Ethereal homeworld and world soul.
I wish I had any good faith left to give to Bizz. Mechanically, there were some fun things about this xpac. Had they been in one of the earlier, far better, xpacs I probably would have enjoyed said xpacs more. Instead they got attached to TWW, which is just a long running reminder that Blizz has basically merced ALL of their games for the sake of profits.
The classes/specs have been fun to try out. I have little faith the current dev team can produce anything not just OK. The only thing keeping me subbed is classic tbh.
We all know about the elves being the center of Midnight. What I want to know is what they do with the Trolls, specifically the Arathi that are on Silvermoon's doorstep with supposedly an Old God General buried beneath their home. That and Trolls in general. The Haranir are painfully obviously a link between the Trolls and Elves. When they say they will bring all the Elven tribes together does that include the Trolls in any way?
I've been clean from WoW since December 2018 That's 6+ years clean. I live a normal and happy life now. I wish everybody who's still addicted a quick and lasting recovery.
The Sunwell was holy magic before Velen came along because it spent several years on the run from Darkhan and his cronies in the guise of a human thanks to Krasus. Learning to be human from the only actual human around, the paladin Jorad Mace. That's why when she breaks free in the final phase of the Kil'jaeden encounter, he takes massive bonus damage from holy spells.
I only hope Quel'thalas restoration won't last just for a while until void will destroy it... again. I love blood elven land and I wish I could keep it as a great place just to sit, chill and admire views. Happy New Year 🎉
@Diolur Just because making the game system takes them 20 years doesn't mean they can't have a planned out story for that far into the future. Each expansion could be fit into a relatively short book as far as the in-game story is considered. Also it might be hard but isn't it literally the writer's job?
@@goldenmairon2371 It doesn't really make sense to build a storyline that early in an online game. Take Draenor, for example, people didn't like it, so they had to rush the expansion. It would be much harder with a strict storyline. Not to mention that no one knew the game would be so successful from the start.
I hope we don’t go to Kareesh in the War Within. 11.2 is another opportunity to go deeper inside Azeroth, to explore the inside of the planet some more before we go to the surface again. Kaaresh seems like an ideal place to go in Midnight…
I was a dedicated player from Vanilla through Legion, after which I felt the game went completely off the rails. This is the only expansion since then that I’m tempted to return for (huge fan of the elves). I just don’t think I have faith enough in the company to deliver anything that’s worth my time.
In the text you show us in the video, however, there is not a word about the sunwell. There is stormwind instead of sunwell. Did you perhaps show the wrong text?
I really hope the Protectorate makes an appearance again. It would be really disappointing if the Ethereal faction from TBC that was made explicitly to fight the void was not in an expansion about fighting against the void.
I still think the Jailer should've won and essentially Thanos snapped reality back/away and then we see Classic + as the next continuation of the game. Not in the form of an expansion. But if the end of this Metzen trilogy leads to the same thing thats fine its just taking longer to get there.
Do you think that Xal'atath is actually an Ethereal that got placed inside an artifact (the dagger) before her world was destroyed by Dimensius the All-Devouring? So the Ethereal's are actually a race of elves?
@@NostraDavid2 Inanis was a High Elf. Given how Xal'atath looks and the fact that she's a Voidcreature, I think it's safe to assume Inanis' body became that of a Void Elf upon possession.
Have I missed something in the story when Xal’atath used any sort of void magic? All I can remember her doing with her OWN magic is manifesting void portals, and Azshara can do that too. Every other time she uses magic, it’s been through the Dark Heart. We don’t know anything about who or what she was before she was trapped in the blade. Think it’s still too soon to say she’s a void entity, they’ve been going out of their way to keep her personal capabilities vague.
You just have to look at her to know she’s void lol, purple skin, purple hair, purple eyes and we have seen her use her own power without the dark heart - it has the “cosmic void” aesthetic.
I feel like with the sheer amount of magical energy stored in the dark heart the destruction of it was in eventful especially if it's a super weapon like it should have had a nuclear level explosion and leveled that part of hallow fall and fucking wrecked everyone there
Except none of this translates to the game. All the lore happens off screen between patches or through a 15 second cinematic. I've been playing wow for over 20 years and I have no idea what the hell is going on because they refuse to tell us through conventional means. Having books be responsible for the majority of your story telling in a role playing game is absolutely embarrassing The in game pacing of thestorytelling is astronomically slow. There's more micro transaction updates than lore drops. If the developers aren't interested in telling the story, why should i be excited to hear it?

Hey! At least you know the Horde and Alliance women be busy mothers. Gotta keep that army fully manned.
Cheapened everything for me
Happy New Year Michael
If a "radiant song" is just a World Soul calling out to you. And if K'aresh had one before being consumed. Does that mean the Void already has a void titan?!
I would guess that's just what Void Lords are.
wait... are we gonna have to pay the full price for each expansion and its yearly too?
on top of a subcription..... ???
You will buy it and you will like it 🗿
@ yeh but i just got my friend to join and pay the price for tww, now this poor pleb will need to pay again

I still can't get over when they forgot to let Kael and Lorthemar meet in Shadowlands lol
The lore work you guys do is actually insane lol gj
@@frostmagemarii hahaha this is exactly what i was thinking, love the game or not, the guy sticks to a very predictable content style.
@@NostraDavid2 you clearly havnt been watching very long then this channel has done this to itself
Not playing anymore, but wow stuff keeps showing up in my feed. They lost me when they started giving “equal representation” to child groomers.
New years lore video, wooooooooo !
How is the nightwell connected to the void?
The Nightwell isn't void related though. It's just pure arcane. It may share some aesthetic staples with void magic but there's no indication they're connected.
The Void and Chaos/Fel magic are enemies, not friends. They don’t get along. There is no void in the Nightwell.
If it DID have void power, I seriously doubt the Burning Legion would have been able to do anything with it, and they would have probably just smashed Suramar to make sure it could never be used against them by their enemies
The Nightwell is not Void related at all though..
Though the Nightwell is shut off lacking the stability of The Eye of Aman'thul. Isn't it?
@@LDaemontusI’ll check it out, thanks!
Join the growing group of people that want Metzen to take the story a different direction after Wrath classic happens (again)
The war within so far has been good @@tetra_tinuviel
I loved horrific visions. Was so excited to get the mail muncher
Pretty crazy we are getting a Big Event that has an actual name instead of just being The Capitalized Noun.
Promising stuff in the future personally im hyped for midnight 🤗
Very well put together ❤❤❤
Metzen wasn't kidding -- this is gonna be some classic Warcraft storytelling!
Ty , love the lore videos!
@@ZeroEdge69he had a son later, and it's implied to be that world's Garry
Xalatath will use the Dark Heart to corrupt the Sunwell and that will make it into a Void/Arcane well, which is to bring Dimensius into Azeroth.
I wish they put some Void hero class for Midnight, possibly with a melee spec...
Along with Ethereals of course
Massive fumble if they don't
Less new boring characters, more old characters doing cool stuff
My theory for midnight is that Xalatath is going to destroy the sun to pledge Azeroth into darkness. It would be similar to Beledar’s phase shift or like how Argus was in the sky that one patch
She'll probably end up being the final boss of a redone Sunwell Plateau raid, and then destroying it and getting away after we "defeat her".
5:06 My Theory? She is a dark Naaru, the one that came to Azeroth in Beledar and was plucked from it (and then corrupted) by Y'Shaarj.
I love when people get all hyped for a new expansion, followed by the eventual depression that kicks in after the honeymoon phase ends.
I might come back for midnight. I may show up for the final patch of this expansion.
Seems pretty Mid(night)
Please leave 😂
Oh that’s definitely gonna be someone’s video title when it comes out: Putting the Mid in Midnight
MAke t-shirt and wear it should there be a blizzcon. You'll make bank!
@@Buildonsound I think you got your wish 3-5 years ago, there's like 100k on retail
@@SlimeySludge You're delusional if you think retail totals to 100k. Classic is way closer to that than retail.
As a long time blood elf/blood knight player, I'm really hyped about Midnight.
With a bit of natural fear, i have great expectations of Midnight. It's shaping up to be the best expansion.
I've been clean from WoW since December 2018
That's 6+ years clean. I live a normal and happy life now. I wish everybody who's still addicted a quick and lasting recovery.
you're still sat watching videos about it though
The Sunwell was holy magic before Velen came along because it spent several years on the run from Darkhan and his cronies in the guise of a human thanks to Krasus. Learning to be human from the only actual human around, the paladin Jorad Mace. That's why when she breaks free in the final phase of the Kil'jaeden encounter, he takes massive bonus damage from holy spells.
God Bless, with the help of our sponsor LOL
I only hope Quel'thalas restoration won't last just for a while until void will destroy it... again. I love blood elven land and I wish I could keep it as a great place just to sit, chill and admire views. Happy New Year 🎉
"All New Lore" = Previously unknown context added to lore that was already finished
This is what good lore should be like. Every new detail wedges finely into all the old ones.
@@Diolur Just because it's added on top of old lore doesn't mean it "wedges finely" you're usually supposed to set up that stuff.
@@goldenmairon2371 set up stuff 20 years in advance? Sounds logical, sure.
Over the laws of light
Over the moon by midnight
Let's do it all this time
Everyone wishing well we go
So many possibilities!
I'm going to be honest. I care about player housing way more than anything else Midnight has to offer. I am DYING for housing news.
The Nightfall patch will reveal Xalatath's actual character portrait. I hear it is a pair of feet.
I hope we don’t go to Kareesh in the War Within. 11.2 is another opportunity to go deeper inside Azeroth, to explore the inside of the planet some more before we go to the surface again. Kaaresh seems like an ideal place to go in Midnight…
If it’s a massive revamp, I may or may not comeback depending on what’s added
WoW should have more voiced quests.
The Nightfall Sanctum delve is full of Renilash lore too.
I have to wonder during all this... what is Illidan doing?
On the shelf until Blizz needs him to save the franchise again. Honestly though, I think he's babysitting Sargeras.
Here we go
All the elves in one place!!!! I'm so excited!
I was a dedicated player from Vanilla through Legion, after which I felt the game went completely off the rails. This is the only expansion since then that I’m tempted to return for (huge fan of the elves). I just don’t think I have faith enough in the company to deliver anything that’s worth my time.
I've been dying for some more blood elf action ever since TBC.
No
Xal'atath merely inhabits the body of a Void Elf.
I don't know how old the Ethereals are, but she's older than the old gods, so I doubt it.
@@lightwarden.Nope, just a regular Blood Elf. I remember doing the quest.
@@NostraDavid2 Inanis was a High Elf. Given how Xal'atath looks and the fact that she's a Voidcreature, I think it's safe to assume Inanis' body became that of a Void Elf upon possession.
Was hoping for Midnight Express Expansion taking place in Stormwind Stockade 🤣
Something something giant sword plunged into the dark God's heart, the end.
She's obviously a void entity
You just have to look at her to know she’s void lol, purple skin, purple hair, purple eyes and we have seen her use her own power without the dark heart - it has the “cosmic void” aesthetic.
I feel like with the sheer amount of magical energy stored in the dark heart the destruction of it was in eventful especially if it's a super weapon like it should have had a nuclear level explosion and leveled that part of hallow fall and fucking wrecked everyone there
“Don’t trust her body” famous words of many a man
Except none of this translates to the game. All the lore happens off screen between patches or through a 15 second cinematic. I've been playing wow for over 20 years and I have no idea what the hell is going on because they refuse to tell us through conventional means.
Having books be responsible for the majority of your story telling in a role playing game is absolutely embarrassing
The in game pacing of thestorytelling is astronomically slow. There's more micro transaction updates than lore drops. If the developers aren't interested in telling the story, why should i be excited to hear it?
It’s rather simple: we killed the biggest baddest gods in the universe, now we have to kill the even biggerest baddest…er gods+1 in the universe for real this time
Dragonflight revamped how Lore is told through the campaigns. Do you pay attention to the campaign quests??
@@Paul2hip8lmao these people don't read quest texts, and apparently they don't watch cinematics either (I actually don't know where they got their "good old days" lore, my guess is it doesn't count unless the NPCs /yell it at them)
@@Paul2hip8while true, dragonflights story was still terrible, at least for me. I don’t know which one I liked less, DF or Shadowlands.
Midnight bringing us player housing, quel'thalas revamp AND playable Naga?
>.>
Yep, 5k players and 100k bots will be thrilled.
Xalatath is pretty meh at this point she’s just sylvanas again with a big evil plan that everyone has to stop, but trust me bro the plan is good this time.
Ok, but it still doesn't make sense why "Void Elves" can't be Paladins but can be Holy Priests.
Is the whole "Light is actually evil" plotline dropped or?
It's always "the next expansion will be the good one."
Citizens of Azeroth can't catch a break!
Ever since I learned it's going to be called Midnight I've been of the opinion that Midnight is going to have a bad ending. Xal'atath either outright wins, or we kill her but her plan succeeds regardless. Then The Last Titan will pull a Future Perfect situation where we have to figure out how to undo what she did.
