Xal'atath is one of World of Warcraft's most important characters. She'll feature heavily in War Within, and will almost certainly cause Midnight. Today, we tell her complete story. - เกม

0:24 Wow that pronunciation of "Y'Shaarj" was JARRING! Did nobody over there play through the Klaxxi Paragon stuff in Mists of Pandaria? They have his name voice acted several times and it is certainly not whatever Bellular just said.
I can't imagine how embarrassing it must be to have such an egregious error only seconds into the video and nobody on the team catching it THEN showing it off to over 624,000 subscribers, some of whom paid their money in support.
Are your faces red or pale?
She’s actually still in the dagger. Talks to me every day….
Oh no!!!!! CRRRIIINNNNNGEEEEEEE
That's her answering machine she left in there.
Bro we’ve been through this before:
A-That’s not a dagger, it’s a spork
B-It is property of the cafeteria and we need it back
Xal'atath is kind of like Zovaal, but done right. A master planner whose seeds have been sown over multiple expansions, not shoehorned in as 'surprise, it was me all along'.
It feels like war within should’ve been the story after BFA but then we got shadowlands instead
They baited us with the jailer. Kinda makes Zovaal more of a master baiter.
Damn i wish Blizz would come out and just flat out say that shadowlands was not cannon. We can look at it like its some sort of filler content, just like in tv shows.
Nah the issue with shadowlands is they had an original story fleshed out and for some reason last minute changed everything. I’m still convinced the original story would be that the primus was the real jailer and zoval would have somehow set us free from this belief and then we’d fight the Primus. Cause there was so much foreshadowing that made it look like Primus was supposed to be the big bad hell even the statement he never lost a battle unless he wanted to to learn something
I've had a theory that the old gods "dying" was always part of a ritual that would bring about the hour of twilight. It would fit into the lovecraft inspiration for them. "That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die."
I think an interesting twist would be something like this: Xal'atath is not an old god. She's a portion of Azeroth's soul, corrupted during the rule of the old gods and cut from her greater self by the Titans like a surgeon using a scalpel to cut away rot. They used a metaphysical dagger to slice away at Azeroth's soul, which then becomes her prison, the actual dagger we know. It's Xal'atath's voice we and the other heros hear, and her grand plan is to be reunited with the rest of her greater soul.
I like this!
I too hope for a twist like this.
Xal'atath is one of the only really intriguing long term characters blizzard has developed recently that they haven't messed up, so I'm really hoping they don't jump the gun with her going into War Within
Everything so far seems very grounded and within reason. Let's hope she's not the new Jailer. We already have 1000% more info on Xalatath than the jailer though, so I'm hopeful.
Just find her boring. She never did anything I got to see other than talking
@@MrSjanten007play shadow priest
i hope her story arc continues throughout the whole saga, I mean it feels like she has played a major role in the world since the old gods.
As a priest main Legion was something special. The lore, the cool factor, the class fantasy immersion and surrender to madness on the gameplay side. It was unparalleled.
Legion was such a good expansion in general. I too played a priest during it.
6:41 It's Thaurissan, not Thassarian. Thassarian is a human death knight.
I was about to write the same comment, also Moira didn't marry an ancestor of Mogdud xD
It might be how Bellular says it in his Irish accent. Kind of like saying gis for guess, perhaps?
@MissPopuri it's not lol he is just pronouncing it completely wrong, and he doesn't say guess like gis either 😂
Thanks!
And yeah Moira married not an ancestor but a descendant of Modgud.
Bro we know what he meant. Grammar correctors I swear
Man i love babeblade
Knifu the Wifu
i've been playing WoW since wrath, and i must say, WoW FEELS different in the BEST way. the content they're putting out, the new features, the patch updates, the story, the upcoming trilogy. it truly feels like they're trying to update and recapture us, and speaking for myself, i'm captured. I don't think i've ever been so excited for the future of WoW! LESSGOOO
I agree. The War Within lore and setup seems really good. Wasn't a fan of DF's story, but the gameplay was awesome and many new things were introduced that are great. Can't wait for TWW. It feels like we truly are getting surprises and not just half-baked zones with rares and status quo stuff.
Blizzard giving us Dragon Ball fusion of "J.J.R Tolkien and H.P Lovecraft" , with their future lore .
@@hobosnake1Dragonflight seems more like a detour too Disney land when it comes too the lore.. oooh well the Dracthyr is actually a fun class/race , atleast we got something good outta DF Expansion
Wow is Disney now
@@joe77andino thats true but lets say, its not that bad do that some times. Not only war and violence, why dont have some "Friendly friendship" expansions. :) I think it was a good pause and now BRING US THE WAR AND BLOOD. But yeah, some DF's storyline like with Alex and Vyranoth was just lame but for example Iridikron is one of the best villain since wotlk.
Xal'atath = The One Ring basically. Bringing the way to the Void / bringing the way for the Dark Lord Sauron. Hopping from person to person using them as necessary.
Dark Heart left broken seems like the Heart of Y'Shaarj to me. Particularly since we are going back to Pandaria and doing the Dark Heart of Pandaria scenario and the SoO Raid
The biggest mystery out there is how did the Black Blade, with Xal'atath still trapped inside, get out of my bank vault?
Excellent lore video as always Bellular.
For those that never understood the purpose of Sargeras creating the burning legion is simple.
Sargeras +Legion = fight void lords.
Zoval *The Jailer* had the same purpose as he was trying to fight the void lords to but he was put in a prison, that's why the Jailer had a secret pact with Sargeras.
But both had the same vision of trying to conquer Azzeroth world soul to use it against the Void Lords, same goes to Void lords purpose to corrupt azzeroth with their childs the *old gods*
Well from the new lore from Shadowlands it was the jailor how did used his dreadlord to show sageras the power of the void which lead to his downfall
they call xalatath the harbinger , because she is the only one of the old gods truely dedicated to the void lords , the others rebelled and warred with each other because they knew if the void lords ever were able to spawn into the universe they themselves would also die , thats why they overpowered her and placed her essence in the dagger so she could not contact the void lords similar to the ulduar alagon signal , now she has been released she is attempting to gather enough power to complete the binding of azeroths soul and complete the plan of her masters
I like that idea
Probably the best new antagonist we've had for years. She's mysterious, powerful, manipulative, and sexy.
Bellular: "So, Archbishop Benedictus..."
Me: "POWAH!!!!!"
Story Binge! Let's Gooooo! Please keep up these story videos!
I love seeing some of the connective tissue in parts I missed during BfA and pre-WoW, since I didn't play a ton of Shadow Priest in Legion. Seeing it all laid out like this makes me even more hyped for WW!!
Are you saying that Blizzard has INGENIOUSLY created this Xal'atath character, building up the ENTIRE WoW universe, and bringing it ALL to this very point............right here.............TWENTY years in the making?! IF and only IF that is indeed the case, then.............oh my @#$%ing God.................THIS is going to be the GREATEST AND GRANDEST story in the realms of all fiction! Stand aside Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones............WoW has jaw-droppingly built and built and built everything in order to bring it all together TWENTY years in the making..............oh my god...........
FFXIV.......you were given a second chance, and it did indeed pay off; however, "The War Within" is going to blast "A Realm Reborn" right out of the water!
It really boggles my mind people say the Xala'tath blade is destroyed, or irrelevant. The blade disappearing at the worst possible moment is its entire story. It did EXACTLY that for Wrathion. The really interesting part -- N'Zoth said the blade must remain to serve his will. It simply cannot be that N'Zoth is dead, he's in the blade, doing the blade things. Mark my words.
I really like this theory. I was also troubled by the fact that the blade disappeared out of thin air and the fact that it was supposed to serve Nzoth but in the end it was used just to temp Azshara and for Wrathion to strike his carapace
After WoW is over, the lore will be whats left. Nice video!
Thassarian is a death knight iirc, *Thaurissan* is the dwarf warlord
I’ve watched your videos over the years and while I don’t play World of Warcraft anymore, I’d like to keep up on the story and your channel is really great for that. I just wanted to let you know that you are an excellent storyteller and just say thank you.
Phew, what a great breakdown of all of that history. Well done.
Top tier video, one of my favorites from this channel.
Oh boy do I love your Lore vids. Never stop!❤🎉
Great video. Love how they have a character in the story that brings deeper lore to the game that you discover through their actions.
Every time I hear about Xal'atath I'm reminded its probably a reference to Xel'lotath from the game Eternal Darkness that came out on Gamecube. Xel'lotath was one of the ancients that were the the antagonists of the game. Eternal Darkness is a great game with a really unique spell system and an awesome soundtrack.
YES! Eternal Darkness: Sanities Requiem iirc. awesome game
It is mentioned as an inspiration for the character, on both of the games wikis
Omg my brother played that and I found it terrifying to watch
Definitely a great game and nice catch on the reference but both definitely are Lovecraft references
love the story / lore videos!!! great work - thanks :)
I’m so stoked to watch this, thanks for the quality content guys !!
I needed this. ❤
I don't know if this is how it will play out, but this is such fun stuff. Great work guys!
Another great job of Bellular team💪🏼👌🏼
Great job on this one
good video. i appreciate a round-up every now and then.
An amazing analysis!
Blizz has really a lot of potential here!
thanks for the recap, I had forgotten about a third of that
I never been so deep in the lore when it came to Xal'atath.. i just thought she was a forbidden bloodelf that took the oath in gaining more power... ♥ forever love you bloodelves.. u_u
Xal'atath's Story is very interesting given what little information and background we got from her. Always a Villain with a plan to bring forth the black empire anew and the void itself.
I kinda loved the BfA Storyline except what they did to Sylvanas.
Also would've liked to see Nzoth Burning in a real cinematic. I was waiting for that revenge since the Cataclysm :>
I liked BfA for the most part but as a Night Elf main, I was deeply deeply disappointed by the burning of Teldrassil - even with the so-called 'War of Thorns' patch, I never felt like the Nelfs got the proper fight they deserved. Then there's Nazjatar. A timeless isle-esque daily quest grind. Azshara and Nazjatar deserved an entire expansion onto themselves.
@@Aurora-313 didn't like the burning too but loved Nazj idk. I had to grind it for bentic gear cuz mythic raiding tho
You should do a Bellular bedtime story hour. I’d totally listen. 😎
We are getting a bit heavy on Void aligned or related enemies that are expected to take part in whatever the next big void story is.
* Xalatath
* Old gods
* Iridikron
* Azshara
* Void lords
Each should have at least a patch with a zone and raid for their story and preferably more as to not go back to the horrible rush jobs of BfA and SL. But that's one threat short of two expansions worth of just Void opponents, and it assumes I didn't forget anyone. We need at least a bit of variety. Who will have to be sidelined? No matter who it will be a loss. I don't want to see any of them be relegated to a midboss or stuck as a dungeon boss.
Great video. I never pieced any of this together before I love wow lore but I usually don’t pay attention to it in game sadly
Love the content keep it up!!!
Great work.
Earliest I've ever been for an upload I think lol. So excited for more lore and stuff. And definitely excited as well for them to keep making actual sensible story like with DF compared to Shadowlands lol.
very very good job bel
This is one of the greatest lore videos ever done ✔️ 👏
Ur background music for most of this one is on point
great video! :)
So basically, even Blizz is on board with forgetting about Shadowlands
I hope Xal'atath survives the War Within. We need more long-running villains since we've killed so many of them over the years. I feel like the only OG ones left are Azshara and kind of Sargeras (though he's currently out of commission).
Here to support the cause!
Excellent video. For the algorithm!!!!
I didn't know a lot of these events were connected. This video actually raises my interest in the DF finale, and the story of TWW.
if we interpret the wording on that naga prophecy as literally as 'dark heart' is a literal item--it straight tells us Azshara went to zereth umbra--beyond the veil of space itself--became an Eternal one--or at least stole the power of one. We do already know there's a sea portion amid the hallowfall zone sieged by horrors...surely hers are one of them, even if she doesn't necessarily return until the void wins and midnight falls.
meanwhile, alleria is just a vessel for the void lords to get to Quel'thalas...which she literally scouted for them when she visited it--they already told us we're returning there...wonder why
I'm in the camp that is hoping that Xal is NOT an old god, but something new. Her role as the harbinger implies (to me at least) that her purpose is more important than that of the old gods, who I view as less so 'gods' but more like biological weapons dropped to prepare for the arrival of the real denizens of the void. Kind of like the Kaiju in pacific rim.
I'd love it if you started putting sources for info in your lore videos. This is all really interesting lore, but I've never heard of Xal'atath being wielded in the War of Three Hammers.
One thing i never undestood was about Zul the prophet. Why exactly he is able to see the future? also his prophecies were always perfect, all of them happen exactly how he has seen them, then why he fail about Zuldazar sunken? I think his reason to lie about the sunken was being able to travel to Pandaria and resurect the thunder king, wich his only reason to be alive is to let Wrathion eat his hearth and watch a vision about the final titan. Zul saw all of that, he knew he is going to fail, so why do it anyway? Becouse that set wrathion in the path.
One of his dialog wich seems a funny joke was "I have seen a lot of important events, and you were in all of them. how curious" "I have seen how to worlds end" And in his defeat he said "Wait... Dis was not the future I was promised..." wich means he maybe didnt see the future, but the future was whisper to him by someone.
Void is known to see many paths, but never the true path. Who knows?
awesome vid! a lore mini bible xD keep going michael
i ended up really getting into the lore thanks to videos like this one :~)
Can someone tell me the sponsor which tracjed your subscriptions was on this channel thx
Thank you because I had no idea about all that. I've missed parts, I think it may be because I don't do raids. I do remember the dagger in the hands of Wrathion. I wonder, what did it do to him? Is there something we still don't know.
thanks for uploading! otherwise I couldn't have made a connection.
Xalatath is so cool... wish i cared about Dragonflight even just a little bit. Didn't understand that portion of the story at all
I really hope they don't just kill her off like they did Gul'dan. She's got the potential to be a great rogue's gallery type villain who shows up now and then.
28:08 - Someone should tell Iridikron: "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves" ... just sayin' 😛
She slips inside Anduins sword and then by magic we have a old gold killing sword
I wonder if Y'Shaarj will tie into this somehow. It's for sure no coincidence that Mists of Pandaria had a scenario called DARK HEART of Pandaria. There's for sure some important lore to be found in the remix of Pandaria.
Xal'laciously good.
Here's my little theory what about previous owners of the dagger before the rise of trolls or other mortal races. What if Neltharion had Xa'latath and the picture in the final boss room of Abberus is Xa'latath's true face.
N'zoth is still alive in other timelines, we only killed him in one timeline. The DF questline with Chromie confirms this. And with the Old God's presence being in all possible timelines, it is likely that we are far from done with them. Hell, they can easily drag Azq'roth into the mix with this.
Dark Heart....Pandara Time running....Y'shaarj 's Heart
no doubt there's some reference there, but the purple disc they powered up (the anti-dragon soul or whatever) is called the dark heart
She split the timeline. In an alternate universe of SOD.
You know I am not sure her third death will actually kill her, it could be a reference to her losing her void based ability’s, she did consume a Naaru on the cusp of becoming a void lord if not already one. I bet you she will be a driving force for the unification of the elves in midnight.
The names of these characters just get harder and harder, or maybe I'm just getting old
Xal is the real version of what they wanted the damn jailer to be
The Void and it's forces exist outside of time and reality as we know it, correct? I can't believe I'm just now thinking of it, but if if Xal'atath is the embodiment of the void-corrupted version of Azeroth? It really kinda fits. Who better to know how to corrupt Azeroth with the void than herself? She also takes the form of an (void) elf, one of the playable races that are wholly native to Azeroth.
I always thought Nzoth alive? Especially with the DF questline.
Probably a long shot, but what if that "elven figure" was Azshara, returned to her elven form? Not Xal'atath?
My theory is if Nzoth is alive then a good part of his essence was sucked into the dagger
According to the Halls of Stone dungeon, the old gods and Azeroth are in a symbiotic parasitic relationship. If we kill the old gods, we also kill Azeroth. Which would explain why they were previously imprisoned instead of killed.
Also, don't screw with the Windrunner family. It never happens ends well.
so xalatath dagger is basically the ring from LoTR and the void is sauron
Wait, where did we find out that artifact is called the dark heart? I want to know more about it!
I love lore videos :)
A dark heart left broken awaits the taking, is definitely the Heart of Y'Shaarj at the end of siege of org. Most likely, why we're getting MoP remix. In retail and they aren't waiting for MoP classic to bring MoP back.
She is in the timelines collecting old gods and stuff dark hear...like the old god heart drom pandaria the one we are sbout to " re experience from a different perspective" huh neat
**ACKCHYUALLY!!** ...it's not Dagran Thassarian or Moira Thassarian.
Thassarian is a the human death knight. It is Thaurissan.
I know. I know.
I wish we would get bosses again like vael the destroyer of guild. Something that really stopped progression. But that’s just me.
Thanks :) finally i understand why that dumb knife was talking :D
Alleria fightning with Xal'atah in War Within.
this makes me wonder if ashbringer is alive wasnt it a crystal and i mean a naruu one?
Xalateth should have been the leader of the void elves. Alleria looks like she should be running with the farstriders in the forests of quelthalas still. Her new model is a slight improvement. 👌
The Virgin xalatath vs the Chad skull of the manari
We should get to choose to help her out or not like we did with sylvanas
That was good shit guys, holy cow. I follow the lore pretty well but even that cleared up the complete shitshow of BFA's mess. Well done guys, thank you.
I hate the idea of me needing to play Season of Discovery to get the full scope and breadth of Xal'atath's story. :/
Wasn't onyxia pre MC?
