The Kendo on the slide of the Silver Ghost is not for Robert Kendo from RE2 but his brother Joseph who designed the Samurai Edge used by S.T.A.R.S. he also made Leon's Sentinel Nine. Pretty sure Joseph is just as dedicated to taking on bioweapons as any other character in the series, he just does it by arming them with the finest weaponry on the planet.
Actually, Joseph Kendo did not make the Sentinel Nine, but the DSO which Leon works for. Leon supervised the project that created the weapon, making sure it was built to be a sturdy, reliable Counter-Bioterrorism sidearm, even going so far as to say that it needed to be 9mm as it is the most common practical ammo type in the world. Based off his own experiences, yes his Lightning Hawk was powerful but .50 AE was nowhere near as common 9mm in situations these attacks occur (large cities or suburban towns where many civillians live), and that was a detriment when it came to testing, while they went with the P226 over the M92 as while the Beretta was adopted by the US military (and S.T.A.R.S. as the Samurai Edge) but the P226 was the weapon adopted by the Navy SEALs, a division that relies on small elite units to quickly get in and deal with a situation, so they used the SEALs sidearm, already modified to deal with harsh enviroments and further improved on it, leading eventually to the Sentinel Nine.
In my opinion, the best are the SG-09 and Sentinel 9 because of the 5x critical and the option to attach a laser sight. I think some people don't appreciate the critical hit mechanic enough, especially with the laser sight. When you have both, there is a 35% chance of dealing 3x damage, or 6.00 points of damage every 3 shots and it also works on bosses. And it works on any part of the enemy body, but headshots provide an additional 1.2x damage multiplier.
I absolutely love when people get it right: weapon balance in RE4 is super good, and it comes down a lot to personal preference. Tired of weapon discussions in which people just arbitrarily take one gun and don't even comment about their playstyle.
Red9 shoot and kill seriously that thing is crazy strong however the others have very helpful things like hitting through enemies 1.5x critical hit rate
I would rather say the weapon balance is pretty good there are some stand out weapons that in my opinion don't fare so well, for example in this video the matilda stands out as the worst pistol to me. It's only real perks are the burst fire and high capacity but those two attributes are really bad on a pistol in story mode your pistol is supposed to be your head pop kick/knife workhorse to get you through the game on good ammo economy and this just performs the weakest out of all of the other pistols and not to mention you have to spend precious spinals to get it. Its not the only stand out weapon that has major issues to me, the Strike shotgun which was godly in original re4 is kinda pointless in re4r, its the weakest in terms of raw power and has as much spread as the goatsie meme, it honestly would have been better if they traded its spot with the riot gun since the riot is actually the best shotgun at least in that case you might consider using the striker. The worst offender of all of them though is the CQBR AR, its the weakest dragonfly gun and eats the ammo up like crazy, I just literally see no point in it outside of selling it for profit.
@@dwarfminerwillie The Matilda still deals the same amount per shot as a regular pistol, and the game doesn't force you to shoot 3-round bursts. You can use the handgun case and only use the super high dps when needed The Striker stuns enemies in a very wide area and that's a good niche for runs in which you just want to run past enemies The CQBR is one of the best boss DPS weapons in the game, if you save all rifle ammo for them it turns some of them into a walk in the park (if you have the aim for it). Ammo conservation needs to be harder to balance for it, but worst case scenario you can run the black case to get resources (L) more often and a charm to craft more. Also worth noting that those three have very big mags, and the fewer rounds you have in your inventory, the more the game will spawn for you.
@@dwarfminerwillie CQBR AR (maxed upgrade stats) is an extremely good gun for the sole purpose of killing the regenerators very fast. Stick the biosensor scope on it and you can take them down in like 3 seconds. The downside it eats rifle ammo.
@@leoncca The CQBR is also fantastic for the regenerator enemies, with the biosensor scope on it maxed out, you can take them down very fast by spraying bullets at their weak spots. Much better than trying to line up the sniper rifle because they are so fast and move in an awkward way.
Personally love the Red9. Made my day when exclusived and took out Novistadors in two shots. I'm also a huge melee fan so the huge damage procced kicks more reliably.
Except the crit rate exclusive applies to melee attacks as well as the Laser Sight making it easier to stun so if you're a huge fan of melee you'd actually be using the Silver Ghost or Sentinel Nine.
My favorite was the Silver Ghost, the power is still fairly good, it can use the laser and the exclusive just makes it an absolute monster, like I got 4 crits in a row at one point with that exclusive, it's just too much fun.
Honestly, same here. My only pet peeve with the gun is that they decided to make it not compatible with the laser sight: not for the decision per se, but because the model of the gun CLEARLY HAS THE UNDERBARREL RAIL FOR THE ATTACHMENT!!!
I only used the underpowered non-upgradable blacktail in OG 4 with Ada...oh boy...it's my go to in the Remake. As for Ada in Separate Ways, the precision and lesser power of the punisher give Ada more opps to showcase her wide array of melee attacks seeing how the blacktail is too strong haha
The weapon balance in RE4R is a genuine work of art, a MASTERCLASS example of weapon balancing in video games. Every one of these handguns is fun, each feels amazing, and it all comes down to preference. My first run I used the Matilda because it was my dream and biggest wish that I could run through OG4 with the Matilda on a fresh NG cycle, and not only could I, but it felt so good to do it too.
The Blacktail not being able to equip laser sight is the only flaw I see in the weapons. It also kinda stunts the natural progression feel of the game, because you will be using the laser on every pistol up until you unlock the Blacktail... and when you find out it can't be used with the laser, you'll be bamboozled and unlikely to "upgrade" to the Blacktail which kinda throws a wrench in how the game should naturally progress.
@@mott1992 Tbf, it's not supposed to be natural progression of one pistol to the next, that is RE8s schtick. In this, each pistol fills a role. As someone that went Silver Ghost - Red9 - Matilda, it never felt like progression so much as "Here's another tool, see if you like it"
@@EpicGamerSetzuna but the rest of the weapons work like that in RE4 Remake. You start with the free W870 shotgun, and when the riot gun comes available, it's an immediate upgrade in all stats. So it's natural to sell off the W870, get the riot gun and never look back. Same with the sniper rifles. The only time you ever would go back to the older shotgun/sniper is after you beat the game and do an NG+ run where you start to take note of exclusive upgrades.
@@mott1992 I mean, kind of. The bolt action vs Stingray is power vs speed, I ran bolt action entire first run because the raw power and smaller size, and they balanced the fire rate and reload to not be miserable unlike the OG, and the Assault Rifle is arguably a step DOWN until subsequent playthroughs. And the Striker is not a natural step from the riot gun at all, so it's still not "The next one you find is a step up", it's just a matter of options and choices as each gun fills a role.
The Punisher has the best control capabilities and the best if you want to do a minimalist run tbh. It can kill regenerators (you can use a rifle to see the plaga and you'll still get the achievement), penetrate shields easily, and can help with the hardest horde sections of the game.
I was gonna say i think the Blacktail or SG is the best overall, but honestly the Punisher wrecks the cabin fight with no mercy. Punisher is an incredible gun
I would say fully upgraded SGOR9 for regular dudes, Red9 for bosses, Punisher for shield guys and Regenaradors, and BlackTail if you really just need one pistol to use
I like that because honestly I hardly ever touch the shotgun the Black tail is really my go to. Good damnage, great accuracy fast Reload for a small mag. Good at using for everything.
That's far from the truth, I've seen Maximilian Dood streaming using the 5X Crit on Hardcore mode and he's blasting 5-6 headshots into a single enemies and rarely do I see anything get one shotted.
Sounds to me like you're exaggerating how many headshots he's getting, then, because I haven't had to headshot anyone more than twice in my Hardcore and Professional playthroughs with it.
Something i found cool about the red9 is that is you examine the stock, its actually a case to put the gun inside of and it has a hole for the handle as well.
I really like that 5x crit chance with the sentinel nine, especially since it can use the laser sight too. I used the punisher in my first run and it was fun too, no fun in this game disappoints me.
@@thebigmoney7101 definitely the punisher, that Pen power, especially with the 5x bonus, you’ll be saving so much ammo, and it can use the Laser so pinpoint accuracy, if you miss it’s your fault, not the game. Actually my first ever 2 runs were with the punisher, bought it with spinels on my first ever play through and loved it.
@@snwlvl634 Saw Maximilian Dood streaming and he's on Hardcore using the 5X Crit, rarely do I see him one shot an enemy, most of the time it's 5-6 headshots. I think it's bait.
Only tried maybe 4 or 5 handguns, but my favorite is the Punisher. Nice blend of power, rate of fire and capacity. But the maxed out version, where you can shoot through up to 5 enemies with one shot is awesome! Saves you a boatload of ammo and basically will mow down swarming enemies like the SMG. Only playing Standard so far, but all I use is a pistol, shotgun, rifle and magnum.
Tip for you the piercing makes it stun more with head shots ( Dr Salvador only takes 1 one hardcore) as well as you can shoot them Garrador through them body to hit his plaga. Hope it helps.
@@sygyzy0933 Punisher is S-tier in the castle section. Enough power to hold its own against castle enemies, and renders enemy shields useless. Basically trivializes the castle section if you already have good tactics.
@@Khedaar Punisher is more situational whereas the x5 crit chance is always useful (and even affects your melee) I'd rather just go with shotgun, SMG and grenades for crowd control than the Punisher
@@knowledgeanddefense1054 wut, the cit affect melee? well that's something different then. Im constantly swapping weapons to fit the situation so that isnt a problem for me. punisher is just better for that
@@knowledgeanddefense1054 i find the SMG's kinda ehhh... They take a lot of space in the inventory for low damage and the ammo is really a pain to find My fav combo is the sentinel 9, riot, punisher, killer7 and CQBR
Red 9 and silver ghost have been my go to’s. Red 9 was my main gun on handgun only playthroughs, it was like the shotgun of the lot relatively speaking. But as a hudless enjoyer lately silver ghost is INVALUABLE.
Matilda w/stock is the best handgun/smg in the game. People pick Matilda with Cat ears but even without them Matilda is fantastic and the game throws plenty of handgun ammo at you the entire game. It also allows you to still fire single shots with the stock equipped. You can single shot, 2 burst, 3 burst or FULL AUTO with the highest rate of fire in the game. It is so satisfying to spray down a mini-boss or boss in a damage phase. I love this gun.
Matilda is the best...but (without cat ears) you just chew through ammo. If you're using lots of guns, it's great. First play through or handgun only challenge, not the right gun.
@@kylemundy8871 Due to the 60+1 you get more handgun ammo drops as it's based on your inventory having most of it in the gun increases the drop rate. Also they silver case with them fight charms will drop more than enough even in pro.
This video is amazing. It's hard to find creators on here who are so genuine for their love of a game and with such a warm relaxing personality. Please continue making videos, because creators like you are what brings life to this website!
For me: 1. Sentinal 9. Crit rate is insane 2. Matilda. Literally shreds through everything 3. Silver ghost/SG-09. Best looks and crit rate 4. Blacktail. Most overall 5. Punisher. Shields and hordes go bye 6. Red 9. Strong but slow and inaccurate at close range.
I stand by the punisher to be honest. That penetration is fantastic for crowd control which on harder difficulties is sorely needed… stun and melee if needs be find ways to line up enemies and bam helps conserve ammo too!
I gotta go with either the Silver Ghost or the Sentinel Nine for two reasons: laser sight, and the 5x crit. Both are essentially the same, damage wise, you just choose if you prefer a USP or a P226
Red9 all the way for me cause firepower is king. A fun note about the Matilda with stock. If you tap the fire button quickly, it will fire faster than normal. You can make it fire faster than a full auto with the right rhythm. It becomes a boss deleter at that point, if you can upkeep the ammo. Not recommended without cat ears.
I know theres not really a best or bad gun in this game but I still feel like the Blacktail is the best of them all. It has great firing speed for its damage and its fast reload speed kind of offsets its low ammo capacity. It also has a very small size and it does not need to rely on weird attachments that eat up suitcase space to use it as its fullest potential.
Red9. Back in 2005, when I found out how strong this weapon was. Also is Lupin the 3rd hand gun. My favourite anime. Otherwise, I'd go for S 9 if I have to change.
When I did the minimalist challenge on hardcore, I used the SG-09 and Punisher for most of the game. When I reached the final boss, I swapped over to the Matilda because I had over 500 handgun bullets saved up.
I ran the Punisher for most of my playthrough (Hardcore difficulty) and never regretted my decision. I did upgrade the to Red9 and the end game for more damage output, and once again never regretted my decision. Two S-tier weapons.
My Go too’s were SG-09 R and the Black-Tail and switching between them when one ran out of ammo had a feeling of badassry I can’t explain having two Handguns is awesome with the 8 weapons slots you can have a lot of fun customization and fun combinations.
@@sygyzy0933 obviously but carrying two pistols means you have twice the capacity in battles and can switch in between instead of reloading plus you have enough ammo for both of em
All the handguns are usable, but those that can have a laser sight equipped on them are a bit above the others for me. The accuracy and (maybe?) higher crit chance overcomes statistical disadvantages when you consider most of your shots are on the move. Between those guns, it comes down to punisher and the DLC gun. DLC gun is more or less a straight upgrade to the handgun when considering crits are the main draw. Punisher has penetration which is very useful in remake given you have a lot more enemies, so even the exclusive is practical to a degree. I’d personally go with DLC gun most of the time. I really wanted to like the red9 because of how good it was in 2005 RE4, but it really got hit hard with nerfs
A maxed out exclusive blacktail will out dps and out damage an exclusive sentile or silver ghost. The 1.5× is per shot making it deal 3.6 per shot vs only a 35% chance to crit with sentile or silver ghost which only get double dealing 3.8 or 4.0 respectively or 1.9 or 2.0 regular. Being able to shoot 3 shots to the body with the blacktail will kill a ganado so no need to risk missing or critical chance. This is why Matilda is better than the rest for pro due to only needing one burst and a follow up shot to kill ganados. Given those head pops are fun and more than worth it as every gun is more than viable. Play with what feels best and is most fun.
@@tylerrobbins8311 The thing about the blacktail is you're spending a lot more on the upgrades for consistent power. Nothing wrong with that but sentinel is much cheaper to level up and can carry you through the whole game whereas you can only access blacktail in castle. And another thing, I thought crits multiplied the damage by 10. Kenndrik said it in his magnum video about the killer7 but maybe that only applies to the magnum.
I personally love my Punisher - it slows down large groups, cancels out the wood shields, fires fast in a pinch and has a hefty magazine so I'm not interrupted by reloads at critical moments. I only switch it out for the Red 9 if I know I'm fighting a single strong enemy and need the power. The base 1.9 damage sounds low but you effectively multiply it with every extra target you penetrate. It adds up fast and out damages the other pistols after 2-3 hits.
A few things to add. The Matilda chews through Ammo, which is a WORSE drawback you can ask for a survival game, since Ammo is limited. So in normal game play. Without having the Cat Ears to give Infinite Ammo, you will find your self out of Ammo, if you use that as your primary weapon. The pistols that can have the laser sites, Punisher, SG, and Sentinel. They always have 100% focus fire damage Bonuses which helps. Their only draw back is low damage and yes, it rely deeply on the 5x Crits. Which you can only score if you can hit Vulnerability Shots easily. And their is still some RNG. Even tho it is more in your favor. Blacktail has good overall stats, and Excels using only 2x2 Space, instead of 2x6 making it the smallest weapon. Perfect for trying to save space if you prefer to use other weapons like smg, or rifles, and only use pistols on weak or low on ammo. It's draw back is it's combat stats do Not excel at anything. Not quite the highest damage, speed or ammo capacity. And can NOT have a Laser Site. Red9 on the other hand I would argue is a game changer pistol. Especially when you are trying to get Professional Agent unlocked. While this pistol can NOT have a Laser Site. The stock drastically reduces the focus fire timer. Literally the second you stop moving the cursor starts shrinking, while other pistols take longer. Once fully upgraded. This pistol does a total of 4.00 damage (including the 1.5x 2.70). Combined that with easy focus fire, you can 1-2 shot most standard enemies in the head, without relying on crits. Of course it's major draw back is the added 1x4 stock makes this pistol take a lot of room. Also even with faster focus fire, it still requires extra skills to find the time to get the cursor small to hit enemies rushing you. While pistols like the SG or Sentinel, always have full focus due to laser sites. My favorite is Pistols are the Red9 and SG09!
You can shot a single bullet with Matilda, you don't have to use burst. In fact you can control single bullet, two bullet and three bullet shooting, especially with bit of practice.
This isn't a survival game so that's not a problem. The game will give you ammo via rng drop from crates/enemy death because the game is hyper focused on combat. That's just how it is.
@@bruhder5854 No, I even tried. You need cat ears to effectively use that weapon. You will absolutely run dry, forcing to use another weapon. Yes the game will increase ammo drop on barrels and enemies you kill. But it is still NOT enough to use it as a primary weapon. Actually it is a #1 reason why the Red9 is the most Preferred weapon to use in Professional Mode. Most damage per shot, Really helps not to run out, when fighting crowds of enemies!
@@jamessilva1259 I don't disagree with Matilda being the worst. Just saying that ammo conservativeness is not a factor in this game and the og re 4 because of rng drops from crates/enemy death. As for Red9, I'm not a fan of it. Imo TMP is the best option for professional because it's the most consistent and reliable for stagger. Drop all handguns and the game, only TMP and the game will drop submachine gun ammo instead of handgun ammo. The weapon bloom being high on it sucks but handgun/SMG main use in combat is stagger and it does it far better than any handgun. But if i were to use a handgun, I'd go with sentinal nine because the crit rate applies to melee as well and that's a very powerful tool. But yeah inconsistent on stagger like every other handgun...
@@bruhder5854 I have NO arguments for the TMP, it is a great stagger weapon. Also smg ammo always drops or created in the 30s. Which yes makes them more sustainable, but! We are discussing Handgun Ammo weapons, not smg. I have NO CLUE why SMGs are even brought up. Handgun Ammo drops between 5-12. I'm just saying if you use a Matilda in Professional. You can very easily run out of Handgun Ammo During fights. Enemies in Professional easily shrugs off attacks that are 2.0 or less. And even tho enemies and barrels have a higher chance to drop more Handgun Ammo when you are low or dry. I rarely still had times, they don' don't. And you do NOT want to run out during fights, especially when you are trying to save rifles, shotgun, or SMG Ammo, for tougher enemies. All I was saying is, Matildas have the highest DPS, but are Ammo guzzlers, SGs and Sentinel's are more balanced between ammo efficiency and Damage per hit and DPS. While Red9 have the lowest DPS, but highest Damage Per Shot, and Ammo Efficiency. A lot of people do prefer to switch out the default improved Handgun Ammo drop brief case with a gold one that will drop more money, and use the Red9, because you can drop more enemies using less Ammo. If you are a Speed Runner. You see most people use a SG, and mainly use its pinpoint accuracy, to shoot treasures, etc. Since you have to avoid most fights to get below 3:00 hours.
I love the punisher for its low cost piercing. I know the silver ghost is probably the best because of the crit chance multiplier but being able to hit and stagger multiple targets for just a few hangun shots has been so clutch in most playthroughs that dont include bonus weapons
@Lancun i was thinking the CQBR with infinite ammo? It has the highest dps of any gun in the game. Only down side is the limited rifle ammo. But with infinite ammo that thing is disgusting.
The Punisher is my favorite of the handguns. The recoil feels so nice. The crowd control with this against hordes and shield is great. One thing I don’t see people talk about a lot is how it goes up against the Garradors. If you aim at the shoulder or chest, you can stun them by hitting the plaga on their backs.
So, in my first playthroughs, I used the red9, but in the og, I used only the blacktail. It really does come down to preference. I'm glad vids like this exist tho bc most the time the creator will highlight the downside to the gun compared to the other guns downside and helps me see things clearly without bias
Most balanced RE4 handgun review I’ve seen. Nicely done. So many have out the sentinel nine on the back burner. I’ll have to give it a shot on my next run.
Whichever one you do best with. Me personally, can’t go wrong with the white ghost due only to the fact I physically can’t function without the laser sight and the accuracy + 5x critical rate makes it intensely reliable for how I play
My favorite is the blacktail, it just kinda takes me out of the game when Leon uses his default pistol in the cutscenes even though I sold it ha. Why I just stick with the default since it’s viable.
Best handgun is the Sentinel Nine, the lower power compared to the Silver Ghost isn't an issue since you're looking for crits anyway and the Sentinel Nine has a large advantage in terms of fire rate comparatively as well as a massive magazine size which negates the slightly lower reload speed. Sentinel Nine gets the Laser Sight which further increases chance for crits as well as stuns while the 5x crit rate exclusive applies to knife and melee attacks whilst you're using the weapon. The benefits of crits are seen more on harder difficulties obviously so on lower difficulties you may prefer something else. Red 9 is remarkably meh and gets more praise than it deserves IMO, people just like it because it's high damage, but they fail to account for how inaccurate it actually is. I've seen people praising it miss several shots because of the random bullets spread whilst they're still actually trying praise it lending credence to the fact that they're just looking at the stats and not really paying much attention whilst they actually use it. Black Tail's DPS puts the Red 9 to shame as well and in terms of speed running where you're not actually trying to kill everything the Black Tail retains some basic power so it's easy to use quickly unlike the Red 9 which has to settle for any sort of range. Black Tail being small and easy to use make it a good gun for low difficulty runs where Damage actually can trump the 5x crit rate. Punisher is also great for speed running, the piercing ability allows crowd control of multiple enemies and the ability to attach a laser sight increases the liklihood of a stun. Outside of a speed run scenario however the Punisher tends to use more ammo than any other gun except Matilda. Matilda has the highest DPS with the stock attached and it can still technically do single shots with the stock if you release the trigger quick enough, but it eats ammo. If you have the infinite ammo or if you're going for Minimalist the DPS of Matilda can be useful, but in pretty much every other scenario Matilda is a waste of resources. Basically the good handguns are: Sentinel Nine SG-09R Black Tail The 'bad' handguns are: Red 9 - because the Black Tail tends to do everything the Red9 does and tends to be a bit better at it. Matilda Punisher is in a weird limbo area somewhere between. Having good (relative) crit rate thanks to the Laser Sight and the ability to stun multiple enemies is very useful it also is generally weak. It can also cause issues with the piercing regarding Ashley for those whom are not careful with their shots.
For the original for me it was the Red 9 all the way, but with the Remake it was the Sentinel 9, somethin about it just feels like it was made for me/what I want out of a pistol in RE.
One thing I'd like to add is that in the VR mode the red line is kind of hard to use because of the reload it's not a normal pistol where you load the magazine in the top and either release the slide with triangle after gripping the gun or grab the slide and rack it instead you have to slide the clip in and manually pull the clip out Edit: I think my phone microphone is clogged because I use voice to text and look at all the bad grammar
If you're doing a handgun-only playthrough, you NEED to have at least the Matilda, the Punisher (nothing rips through those Zealot Shields like that thing), and one of the other Pistols depending on your taste. That will carry you through virtually any situation. Red9's got more raw power and accuracy with the stock, but the Blacktail is better balanced, Silver Ghost if you're a headhunter. I'm going to start on a Hardcore Minimalist playthrough pretty soon, and my loadout will be Matilda, Punisher, and Red9 for general use and sniping from a distance.
SR-9 handgun a.k.a. Silver Ghost 👻 & Sentinel 9 are my favorite handguns to use. I know blacktail & Red 9 can dish out more punishment but I love the look & feel of those handguns a lot more especially when fully upgraded.. 👍
The red9 has a special mechanic that none of the other weapons carry.(from what I’ve seen) The red9 with its stock is able to close its bloom (reticle) much faster and once the initial bloom closes subsequent shots fired will only slightly open its bloom. So instead of each shot opening the bloom to 50% (?) they now open the bloom to 5-10%, shortening the time it takes for the bloom to fully close. Why does this matter? Well theres an insane increase in accuracy, crit, and stagger that is gained once the bloom is closed turning anything from headshots, crowds, and bosses into Swiss fucking cheese. I will admit these attributes become somewhat obsolete once you’ve unlocked the cat ears but when it comes to ammo consumption, upgrade cost, and versatility the red9 is completely unmatched. The red9 is a misunderstood semi auto rifle and is hot garbage for those who don’t take the time to master its mechanics, or have cat ears on their head.
The 5x crit is a big deal. I've played through the game about 5 times now, and going back to SG/Sentinel, I can tell I'm clearing faster. Plus the Laser sight, which means 100% accuracy
i like it how they rebalanced all the handguns, giving the players a lot of choices for it, want more crit? SG 09, more crit and big mag? Sentinel 9, compact sized and accurate? Blacktail, big damage? red9, penetrations through the shields? punisher, wanna go ham on fire rate? matilda with the stock, and all of them have their own advantages and disadvantages too
USP9/P226: Low damage, high crit. Five Seven: Low damage, high accuracy, group killer. Red 9: Low accuracy, slow, high damage. XD9: Balanced. VP70: Maximum destruction at high ammo cost.
My favorite handgun in the OG RE4 was the Red9 for it's power and stunning potential, but in the remake it's easily the Black Tail for it's great all-around stats and compact design to save space. Never really liked the Matilda as a main or side weapon in either game, but it's definitely one of the funnest to play around with.
After doing the minimalist challenge, I'd say it's between the Blacktail and the Red 9 for best, that's if we're not including the cat ears, with the cat ears the matilda is OP. I liked using the Blacktail against most enemies and then using the Red 9 against the more Tank enemies and Bosses.
Awesome video! But you are right you could put 100 people in a room and they would not agree on the best hand gun. Might start a fist fight or three. But that is part of what makes this game a classic. I love the bolt action rifle if nothing more than its bolt action. Keep up the great work.
I like Punisher a lot, but with Cat’s Ears, Matilda is just on a different league, lol. I was surprised when using it for my Minimalist trophy, it shreds! It’s even better than the TMP imo.
SG the x5 critical hit Exclusive and laser sight is the best for me especially for anti Ganados cases and more than good enough for other situations with damage maxed out. Not gonna be as much damage but is still good compact and allows you to aim fast
For yous main playthroughs and just playing normally red9 and blacktail are really the best, the sgo9 with laser sight and exclusive is really good and works as a accurate shotgun with the crit hits and it's really good, also with cat ears Matilda maxed out is op
I like a couple. The punisher is definitely good against those shield guys. I’m not sure about the metal Shield guys at the island. The Matilda is basically like a sub machine gun if you get the rhythm of the firing down. The red nine I was a little disappointed with. The accuracy isn’t that great
I bought punisher and laser as soon as I could. Used it thru castle And now I’m almost done with the game still using it maxed out. RoF + penetration is very good imo. Sometimes when I get rushed I just let loose then wonder where 30 hand gun rounds went lol
To me it feels like the Blacktail has been nerfed. On paper its great, but in the og it was the clear cut handgun. Now i dont see any point in taking it over the red 9 or SG/sentinel, which is sad bc ive always personally thought its the coolest looking.
Is it just me, or does the Sentinal Nine look like the handgun Leon has in Vendetta? In the original I went with the Blacktail because it was the most steady (my crappy analogue sticks had a habit of causing a drift- really sucks for driving games); but the punisher (which i've seen got hate in og) is my go to in the remake because it's great for taking down crowds and passes through shields
Thanks, this was a helpful video. Just got the game and it's tough to pick a handgun to fully upgrade and probably use the upgrade token for my first run of the game, but I'm thinking Red9 based on it being such a steady gun seemingly having the lowest recoil, and high damage and higher stun chance. I've already tested it vs the sentinel 9. My feeling is that the advantage of the faster fire rate of the other pistols is negated by their greater recoil which makes it more difficult to line up shots.
OK. I changed my mind. I got to chapter 7 and I tested: Sentinel vs Red9 vs Blackmail with their exclusive upgrades. With Red9 I miss too many shots, and there are some cases where a faster fire rate would be beneficial. The Sentinel felt too weak unless I was headshoting to get the crit bonus, and there are some cases where you can't headshot, meaning you have to use a different strat switching to a deferent weapon. Blacktail was the clear winner as it chews threw enemies with head or body shots, and the reticle for aiming is the best: easy to get headshots or just fire a tonne of rounds into enemy bodies and down them fast either way. The biggest downside is mag size, but it's fast reload to compensates. In fact, I want to restart my game from the beginning using just sentinel and then blacktail, and just vendoring the red9 since I bought the red9 stock a couple chapters back & can't get back the spinels unless i go back to an old save, but I might as well just redo the whole game it feels like, since I could play it all a lot better with what I've learned.
Good take. I like to rate based off straight out the box no attachments so for this category, the blacktail wins hands down followed by Sg09r. Sent and red 9 isnt as reliable, and as cool as punisher sounds i just dont find the penetration too practical. Even for a minimalist run I find myself needing crit or power more often instead of penetration.
the full auto matilda is kinda op but im not gonna lie i just red9 every time because it was so op in the original and is very very strong now too. great on ammo! i have tried other guns because i miss the laser aim and you cannot get it on the red 9
I used to like Silver Ghost most in the original due to insane crit rate(55% I believe) and I was saddened to see it was dropped to 25% in remake. That said I don't agree with Sentinel 9 being better than SG-09 due to various reasons, first one is reticle bloom. SG-09 has a pretty fast lock on rate and it's good even without laser sight but for S9 you basically have to use laser sight otherwise it's extremely inaccurate(not worse than Red9 but worse than anything else). Other gripe is very reload speed which is slowest out of them all besides Red9. SG is slightly better than S9 due to these reasons imo and it also has a very slight damage advantage which comes in handy when you are doing a minimalist run(which you should use Matilda over anything else anyways but having extra options isn't still bad). Outside of minimalist run (which Matilda wins easily due to insane DPS especially combined with cat ears) my ranking would be Red9 > SG > Blacktail > S9 > Matilda > Punisher. I also used to like BT in original but very small mag size and very high recoil in remake is a big turnoff for me.
The punisher is the best in crowd control especially with enemies with the shield so it buys you time but I prefer the original gun it keeps it authentic
Thanks man this is the best video explaining the difference of such variety of handguns .. You have well said and exactly described the differences and pros and cons of each That is really helpful for me as im about doing the minimalist run and now im sure what to use S9 was my main handgun on my previous run .. thu i plan my next run to use: R9 for bosses and hard opponents Matilda for chaotic situations Punisher for crowd control S9 normal run and far objects Above are enough for the run seems wont need SG and Blacktail Thanks again and keep doing such great videos 🎉
Depends on the player and what they value. Damage per bullet - Red 9. DPS - Matilda. All around stats - Blacktail. Criticals - Sentinel 9 My personal choice? Punisher - Laser, Piercing, Low Recoil, Good Stagger Chance.
Fully upgraded on PRO - SG-9 would be best no question, its starts deleting heads with crits. For early game - Red9. Its free and with couple power upgrades it reliably stuns enemies and deals decent flat damage Punisher is a tool for one job - dealing with wooden shields, its ok there and after that there only a couple of places where its might be better than competition. BlackTail - Better version of Red9 that also takes less space Matilda - SMG, just buy TMP for that - its much easier to sustain. all above is based on clean PRO runs, no cheats (cosmetics) from 0. And which weapon perform best and results in lower time spend on full playthrough. You can ignore Punisher and Matilda - they would tank your economy and increase total time quite a bit, you might not even fit under 4 hours with them. So for how ranking works - they are bad weapons.
I'd put the matilda as the worst, the cost to acquire it is too high and in a pistol roll it performs the weakest, you want a workhorse to stagger and kick and provide good ammo economy. I'd take the SG over the sentinel 9 myself the reload on it is a bit of a pain sometimes.
Silver Ghost I noticed isn’t as useful in hardcore. I got the exclusive and it still feels that the enemies aren’t getting crit too often (more often than usual but not significant).
How do you review the guns with infinite ammo? Not everyone has that in the beginning... Holding down the trigger is not an option for me... As a beginner, I prefer the default gun...
I really think the Punisher might be the best option. Its kind of funny with the way the remakes gameplay is you will find many guns in the original game not being clearly the best in the remake. For example, the movement of the remake makes using the punisher more useful. Its use on hitting shielded users, ease of use hitting the plagas that jump upon the top of the robed guys head and the ability to hit weak spots on Krausers back by just shooting the front of his chest. Its so good. Then add on the laser and its so easy to use with low recoil. Punisher and the SR1905 were meh in the OG but absolutely dominant in the remake. The Stingray is kind of meh in the remake.
I myself rarely went for critical headshots in both the OG and the Remake as I was more conditioned to shoot out their legs and just proceed to kick them in the face or take them to suplex city lol But for personal preference, I always went with power so my fav's were both the Red 9 and the Blacktail
When I heard 600, thought you ment 600,000. Super friendly and I instantly subbed to help you keep moving up. Keep that friendly spirt going! Great job
Nice video. I just subbed. I'm on my second play through and using the hand cannon this go around on hard. I haven't ever seen the Sentinel Nine. Didn't even know it existed. Where the heck do I get it?
The Kendo on the slide of the Silver Ghost is not for Robert Kendo from RE2 but his brother Joseph who designed the Samurai Edge used by S.T.A.R.S. he also made Leon's Sentinel Nine. Pretty sure Joseph is just as dedicated to taking on bioweapons as any other character in the series, he just does it by arming them with the finest weaponry on the planet.
Thanks, love learning about more RE lore.
@@erzatitaniawinsthere’s aim assist in the options menu
You can use the handgun case and only use the super high dps when needed
The Striker stuns enemies in a very wide area and that's a good niche for runs in which you just want to run past enemies
The CQBR is one of the best boss DPS weapons in the game, if you save all rifle ammo for them it turns some of them into a walk in the park (if you have the aim for it).
Red9 is amazing at putting down those pesky bug swarms.
My favorite was the Silver Ghost, the power is still fairly good, it can use the laser and the exclusive just makes it an absolute monster, like I got 4 crits in a row at one point with that exclusive, it's just too much fun.
What is a crit
@@karthickr6121Critical hit.
I personally always used the Blacktail in RE 4. Now in REmake 4 it is still my GO TO. It just fits me and it has always been my favorite.
Honestly, same here.
My only pet peeve with the gun is that they decided to make it not compatible with the laser sight: not for the decision per se, but because the model of the gun CLEARLY HAS THE UNDERBARREL RAIL FOR THE ATTACHMENT!!!
@@frapippo420 Yes. So disappointing.
After doing a no heal/no merchant/pistol+knife only run with the Silver Ghost, I'm really glad they made all the guns so distinct yet viable.
Re 4 remake is a masterpiece of pacing and level design
I love doing crowd control with the Punisher. 👍
the punishers new redesign gives it more personality
I was gonna say i think the Blacktail or SG is the best overall, but honestly the Punisher wrecks the cabin fight with no mercy. Punisher is an incredible gun
Sg-09 is my favorite personally the critical rate and laser makes it for me
I would say fully upgraded SGOR9 for regular dudes, Red9 for bosses, Punisher for shield guys and Regenaradors, and BlackTail if you really just need one pistol to use
I like that because honestly I hardly ever touch the shotgun the Black tail is really my go to. Good damnage, great accuracy fast Reload for a small mag. Good at using for everything.
Thats good strats for a minimalist run
@@gkkk2735 yeah that was my loadout during minimalist, worked pretty well!
@TitanMax ima try that when i get to that run, it sounds fun tbh. That and krausers knife
Nicee me personally, I use sg09r for everything, it carried me thru my no damage minimalist run
The gun you start with when it's maxed out with the 5x crit exclusive is by far the best. You can one shot enemies constantly
So witch gun would you used between the9 blacktail or punisher?
Does that apply to melee attacks too, the crit chance?
It also means you can shoot through shields
@@sygyzy0933 Punisher is S-tier in the castle section. Enough power to hold its own against castle enemies, and renders enemy shields useless. Basically trivializes the castle section if you already have good tactics.
Punisher and Blacktail hands down in the remake.

Glad you enjoyed it!
For me:
1. Sentinal 9. Crit rate is insane
2. Matilda. Literally shreds through everything
3. Silver ghost/SG-09. Best looks and crit rate
4. Blacktail. Most overall
5. Punisher. Shields and hordes go bye
Finally a page that actually knows wtf he’s talking about 🔥
Red9 all the way for me cause firepower is king.
The red9 is probably my favorite, but I went with the punisher for my starting play through and so far I don’t regret picking it.
I ran the Punisher for most of my playthrough (Hardcore difficulty) and never regretted my decision. I did upgrade the to Red9 and the end game for more damage output, and once again never regretted my decision. Two S-tier weapons.
I don’t care what anyone says the red9 is always my go to I finished my first re4 remake run with it
Video starts at 2:33
My Go too’s were SG-09 R and the Black-Tail and switching between them when one ran out of ammo had a feeling of badassry I can’t explain having two Handguns is awesome with the 8 weapons slots you can have a lot of fun customization and fun combinations.
Shouldn't you not be able to use either one without any pistol ammo?
@@sygyzy0933 obviously but carrying two pistols means you have twice the capacity in battles and can switch in between instead of reloading plus you have enough ammo for both of em
I appreciate this video bc I was wandering which way to go bc I loved my sental 9
With the cat ears, the Matilda is hands down the best hand gun to me. Absolutely mows down enemies like grass.
I mean, if you've got cat ears, I'd just go full Rambo and use either the LE5 or the CQBR. At that point, the game is broken.
@Lancun I mean if you're doing a minimalist run the matilda is a beast, I use it instead of smg
@Lancun i was thinking the CQBR with infinite ammo? It has the highest dps of any gun in the game. Only down side is the limited rifle ammo. But with infinite ammo that thing is disgusting.
@@DBGTZ117 facts bro
Cat ears is basically Capcom rewarding us saying "congrats, now you can meme the game for fun".
I'm married to my Sentinel 9. Well worth purchasing it in the DLC pack.
Basically the good handguns are:
Sentinel Nine
SG-09R
Black Tail
The 'bad' handguns are:
Red 9 - because the Black Tail tends to do everything the Red9 does and tends to be a bit better at it.
Matilda
Punisher is in a weird limbo area somewhere between. Having good (relative) crit rate thanks to the Laser Sight and the ability to stun multiple enemies is very useful it also is generally weak. It can also cause issues with the piercing regarding Ashley for those whom are not careful with their shots.
Are you sure the Sentinel 9 5 x crits apply to melee and knife attacks?
For the original for me it was the Red 9 all the way, but with the Remake it was the Sentinel 9, somethin about it just feels like it was made for me/what I want out of a pistol in RE.
One thing I'd like to add is that in the VR mode the red line is kind of hard to use because of the reload it's not a normal pistol where you load the magazine in the top and either release the slide with triangle after gripping the gun or grab the slide and rack it instead you have to slide the clip in and manually pull the clip out
Edit: I think my phone microphone is clogged because I use voice to text and look at all the bad grammar
Why does the Sentinel Nine break so many heads compared to the SG-09R if the SG-09R has .10 more damage?
It's critical rate is much higher than sg
I like the starting handgun with laser sight maxed out. It does 5x crit. 8 shots out of 10 shots to burst heads
I love how w/ the sentinel9 you said “it looks cool as shit”! Lol it’s my favorite pistol too!
Blacktail for a regular playthrouh to save space.
Sentinel 9 for a pistol only bc of the crit rate.
Matilda with Cat Ears.
putting the stocks of the red 9 and Matilda in front of the gun in the suitcase and not behind them drove me nuts lol great video 👍👍
For my minimalist & silent stranger playthrough I used the maxed out red9 and primal knife bc inf knife but ig I was on assisted
Only handguns i have used are:
Leons startin gun
Red9
Punisher
Punisher is best one, you can attach a laser sight into it is anyways good weapon.
I personally love the handling and small size of the Blacktail.
Me too, it's an indescribable feeling but it makes me feel more accurate and precise even without the laser
Blacktail, big damage? red9, penetrations through the shields? punisher, wanna go ham on fire rate? matilda with the stock, and all of them have their own advantages and disadvantages too
I love the SG-09R with the laser sight. I also have the Tokyo Marui SG-09R.
Red 9 and Matilda are the best combo for a pistols only run
I love the sentinel nine with the laser sight it cleans house
If you have cat ears, then Matilda go brrrr
Good find, it is the same gun in Vendetta.
The black tail has always appealed to me was my main pistol in the og and in the remake
Bro organize that CASE! 😱😱😱🤩
Every RE4 Og or Remakes worst nightmare.
the full auto matilda is kinda op but im not gonna lie i just red9 every time because it was so op in the original and is very very strong now too. great on ammo! i have tried other guns because i miss the laser aim and you cannot get it on the red 9
If only they added duel wielding
Subbed just because you have an awesome intro. YS RULEZ!!!
Thank you.
The punisher is the best in crowd control especially with enemies with the shield so it buys you time but I prefer the original gun it keeps it authentic
Thanks man this is the best video explaining the difference of such variety of handguns ..
You have well said and exactly described the differences and pros and cons of each
That is really helpful for me as im about doing the minimalist run and now im sure what to use
S9 was my main handgun on my previous run .. thu i plan my next run to use:
R9 for bosses and hard opponents
Matilda for chaotic situations
Punisher for crowd control
S9 normal run and far objects
Above are enough for the run seems wont need SG and Blacktail
Thanks again and keep doing such great videos 🎉
I'm really liking your vids man, you're gonna be big in this platform one day, keep going man!
I appreciate that!
Fun fact:the red9 stock also doubles up as a case for the gun
Depends on the player and what they value. Damage per bullet - Red 9. DPS - Matilda. All around stats - Blacktail. Criticals - Sentinel 9
My personal choice?
Punisher - Laser, Piercing, Low Recoil, Good Stagger Chance.
Fully upgraded on PRO - SG-9 would be best no question, its starts deleting heads with crits.
For early game - Red9. Its free and with couple power upgrades it reliably stuns enemies and deals decent flat damage
Punisher is a tool for one job - dealing with wooden shields, its ok there and after that there only a couple of places where its might be better than competition.
BlackTail - Better version of Red9 that also takes less space
Matilda - SMG, just buy TMP for that - its much easier to sustain.
all above is based on clean PRO runs, no cheats (cosmetics) from 0. And which weapon perform best and results in lower time spend on full playthrough.
You can ignore Punisher and Matilda - they would tank your economy and increase total time quite a bit, you might not even fit under 4 hours with them. So for how ranking works - they are bad weapons.
My fav is the red 9 with the stock, but I also really like the blacktail if im try to conserve inventory space.
I like Red 9,but still prefer blacktail above them all!)
I just had on incase I ran out of ammo.
I did my frugalist and minimalist run with the Matilda, just tap the trigger and it shreds
I thought I was the only one that felt like the stingray took a step back lol it was a bit underwhelming
I myself rarely went for critical headshots in both the OG and the Remake as I was more conditioned to shoot out their legs and just proceed to kick them in the face or take them to suplex city lol
But for personal preference, I always went with power so my fav's were both the Red 9 and the Blacktail
When I heard 600, thought you ment 600,000. Super friendly and I instantly subbed to help you keep moving up. Keep that friendly spirt going! Great job
Thanks for the sub!
Can you not get the red dot sight for all the handguns. No I haven’t obviously got the game yet so was wondering.
Only for a few of the handguns.
Nice video. I just subbed. I'm on my second play through and using the hand cannon this go around on hard. I haven't ever seen the Sentinel Nine. Didn't even know it existed. Where the heck do I get it?
The sentinel nine is part of the deluxe dlc pack. You can also just get the weapon separately if you don't care about the other things.
@@erzatitaniawins my main concern was “gun fanatic”. I figured out it’s not necessary. Big relief.
The red 9 is my favorite in the re 4 remake, it was also my favorite in the original. The blacktail is my second favorite.
