- And now for something completely different.
In retrospect I'm not convinced that Breakables actually interact with the Dynamic Loot system. They definitely do in remake, but here is seems like it's only enemy drops.
The Trainer that I used to get the gun from the start is available on Nexus Mods, and I didn't boot it up again after the first play session.
If you follow my Elite Dangerous content I'll be returning to that shortly, I have a half dozen scripts written. I just thought I'd stretch my legs.

Ian McCollum has simply made so many videos on C-96-style handguns that it overwrote everything else in my brain.

It's impossible to kill both El Gigante with the trap door. I pulled it with both of them on the trap door, and the game relocated one of them off of it. The game is hard programmed to only kill one with the trap.

Correction. You in fact CANNOT kill both giants with the same lava trap. The leon won't react to the lever until there is only one.
In case you wonder, the same is in remake, instead , the cutscene plays and only one giant falls, the other is warped next to it.

Just a note, Dr. Salvador actually can be reliably stunned for a melee attack. You need to just bait an attack and shoot his face. I've never had it fail unless I went for the knee for some reason. Just a little tip for ya.
Not only that, but you can actually do this with the knife, if you knife him in the head... its dangerous though but you can kill him with literally 0 ammo

I don't know if you are aware of this, but if you want a tip to deal with the Novistadors more easily, wait till they're fyling. If they're flying, EVERY shot at them will kill. You'll only need 1 bullet instead of more, saving more ammo. At the Novistador Nest after Ashley is kidnapped, there's an easier and safer way to deal with' em: go back to the door and jump through the window to the left. The Novistadors won't be able to pass through the windows and you can one-hit kill every one of them while they're flying. Also, the zip line straight at a J.J. does not kill him. Every time I did it, he only suffered damage. Maybe you shooting at him helped?

@@modageddon2742 Honestly, played it on Normal and, after some time, on Professional. For me, Professional was hard as fuck with the Red9, but it worked at Normal and Professional dificulties, so it should work for him as well

Ill be honest. The standard pistol is my favorite handgun. That headshot crit rate is just such a fun thing to have. Plus its made by Kendo, so automatically has points.
Plus it can have a silencer. Anyway i agree 😂
I prefer the Silver Ghost based off its name, looks, and ability to potentially one shot most generic mobs thanks to its high critical hit rate, even on head Plagas.
Though I loathe they made the crit gun be held by Leon like he is an over-caffeinated, hardcore basshead and not a literal super agent using his own custom gun, literally should have best aiming and handling based off that alone, but I digress. I used it every run on the original RE4. That said, even I respect the Red 9.
Also, nice dig at losing that awesome jacket. While I like the RE4 version more, I am glad that RE4R realised the mistake of not letting the jacket not be an alternative costume.
I personally always went Blacktail for a more overall better handling experience and capacity. I also forgot about a few of these OG areas since Ive been grinding playthroughs of re4 remake this summer. Im glad they cut out/down some of the areas and gave a but more love to others
Red9 only is basically easy mode, depending on which version of the game you're playing. Original GC version, you'll get a metric fuckload of ammo, but the gun is slightly weaker. Later versions rationed ammo to you after you got a certain amount in your inventory, but bumped up the Red9's damage.

I'm fairly certain both base handgun and base shotgun are completed challenge runs. Haven't done them myself, maybe I should rectify that...
That buff you mention right at the start is only applicable to the *North American* Gamecube release. They gave that particular version different weapon stats for some odd reason. The worst example of this is the bolt-action rifle's damage nerf to its exclusive upgrade; without it, it's objectively inferior to the semi-auto rifle. At least it the other versions the BAR's massive exclusive damage gives it one advantage.

A restricted weapon run for og RE4 doesn't have a problem with ammo since if you sell the gun and rebuy it, it'll be fully loaded same goes for upgrading it's capacity. So it goes from not having enough ammo drop to having to have enough money to buy the gun again and again for bosses, i learned this from Dante raviolli's shotgun only.
You don't need fire rate when your pistol hits with the power of a rifle bullet.
Fun fact: The power of this weapon depends on the version of the game you played. If I recall correctly I originally played to completion an imported foreign copy of the game. In the PAL version the Red9 was even more insanely powerful. I think it was something like 6.5 power instead of 5 maximum?

I'm one of those, if you have to brake the rules for any reason than the run can't be done.
The Harpoons do not count and the lanterns don't count, they are both part of the environment.
Its sound in re4 is iconic never did trade my red9 out when I played the first time
The Novistadors died in a single shot because they instantly die from any gun if shot while in the air.

29:28 actually, in the original RE4, any airborne enemy will die in one hit. Don't know why they made that design decision, but it's true for professional as well iirc

You could do this without the trainer. Just do new game plus and sell everything that isn't the starting items and the Red 9, then ban yourself from using any money above the amount you collect from a fresh save(calculate your money disregarding the money you already have).
I always thought the same thing with transformations. Like surely they have to have transformed before so they can know how to use their new form, right? Like Krauser transforms between sword arm and regular form in mercenaries, so that was always my head cannon.
I tried this challenge once a few ywars ago. Got stuck at Krauser, and had like 450 bullets. Good work
You can buy ammo in re4. You buy a gun, sell it, and the ammo stays in your inventory. Dont need to buy the red9 over and over.
while blacktail kinda is better than red9 i still use red9 simply because... its cool as F... so much different than any other handgun in the game
If you ever do a pistol only run in this game again, if you have a ton of money, you can buy the handgun, discard it, and the ammo stays. At least, I think it does. If thats true then you can buy ammo at a very expensive scale :o

They kept the high damage but nerfed it in other ways, like without the stock the spread is as bad as the Hand Cannon.
In brazil we got master reset with these challenges.
Now on english we got Infer
I recommend the master reset channel cause he make like every single gun, grenade and knife, pacifist and genocide run in Re4

Also if you run out of ammo completely, just sell em the weapon altogether and buy it back in it's base form with the base amount of ammo 🤷♂️

Also no, blocking with the shelves doesnt necessarily do much other than bottleneck how many can get into the room for a while if you use it cleverly, Usually you wait for the boards to break and then block one window at a time

I assume you did it so that you made sure you got kills with the red 9, but seeing you skip over like 90% of the kick/suplex opportunities you had, especially with the shield enemies, made my instincts crawl.
Whenever I see someone grab their head or get on their knees in this game, it's like my brain turns monke mode and I will sprint through a group just to kick them lol
you should have shot Sandler's face eye rather than his torso.
if you didn't know after destroying all of Sandler's eyes (two in front and two in back) his face eye will be permanently open for you to shot and stun him.

A fun thing for the hedge maze is that as long as you move the camera upwards (Hold up on the control stick)and as long as you keep running you won’t get hit (also you can get the red9 before Ashley by just going to the merchant in the secret passageway before going into the castle)
It works for most enemies as, already mentioned in the video, game has limited resources.
Enemies become less aggressive and ganados won't even throw stuff at you if you can't see them

When I was a kid I beat RE4 with Red9 and knife. Never touched any weapon not even sniper when needed. Beating the game with Red9 is easy enough when you get to the point beating it in hardest difficulty.

Too bad i didn't like it in the remake. In the OG i used the standard pistol more with the x5 crit but blacktail and re9 were amazing with re9 having shotgun tier power. The remake didn't make me like red9

You should have used re4_tweaks, a mod that comes with the HD Project and fixes an inmense amount of bugs, including the tedious 60FPS QTE's.

I played the original for the GameCube. I always thought the Red9 was overrared since the Blacktail does everything much better with only a 0.5 penalty on power. Now I just learned it got buffed to 6.5.
I recently tried this run on professional mode and daang was it hard to aim cause I installed the RE4 Ubisoft version that doesn't support mouse controls. I had no choice cause it was the only version that supports my old Intel Atom netbook hahaha. The professional Red-9 gun partnered with a crappy computer honestly made the game more challenging to play.

In the original and remake i only use blacktail for handguns. Tried the red 9 with and without the stock in both, and i came to the conclusion that the blacktail is just all around better. Less space, faster fire rate, easier to hit shots even with the high fire fate, and higher dps overall. Not bashing anyone who used red 9 or anything else, just saying i personally never liked using the red 9 in either game tbh.
In the OG I really liked the Red9. It's very debatable that the damage on the Red9 was a great trade off against the Blacktail. In the Remake though, the Red9 feels so bad that it'd never be my first choice.
I did runs with the Red 9 and Blacktail only. At some point they were too good that it made the game boring.

I did this on the PS2 just because I loved the gun so much on professional. I didn't give any restriction to items only since I was a simple teen and just wanted to beat the game with my favorite gun and not die 20 times in the elevator of doom.

The only other handgun that even comes close to the red 9 is the blacktail but yes and its actually quite easy and I don't have to watch your video to know that literally can kill the first boss the giant like nothing

Red9 is the most powerful handgun in RE4, yes indeed you can, yeah, it is a bit underwhelming by default, but still good early on, the further you play and more you upgrade the stronger it gets.

I still have such a hate for the Mike section. Not because of its length, but because of my first ever Professional playthrough with handgun + knife only on the hd pc release, the game bugged out on the final door out of it and would *not* go off of a black screen no matter how far back I went in my saves. Legitimately didn't touch it for 6 months cause of it. Awesome video, dude!

I always used the Red 9 as my go to handgun in every new game I did, would fully upgrade it always. Power can be really good when the exclusive upgrade is done, but it's really way more fun to use the Punisher or the Blacktail.
You should have used the GameCube version for this run, seriously you have no idea how bad the PC version is until you play the original. I always played the original until I tried the UltimateHD version and it wasn't as bad as before but still so much stuff is just wrong. Aside from sounds, colors and textures being just poorly rendered on the PC version and being out of tone, damage is reduced by the 60fps thing, grenades do almost no damage, QTEs are almost impossible, Del Lago isn't that hard... again the 60fps causes some trouble with physics during that fight (RE4Remake suffers the same problem when using 120fps). On the PC version hit boxes are weird sometimes you feel like you are shooting ghosts. The RE4 HD Project aims to fix most of these issues but the 60fps thing I don't think that can be solved without some big tinkering with the engine and that's not going to happen.
The GameCube version isn't unresponsive, also it looks really good if you use the correct display (I mean a CRT TV prefered component video) you can get similar results using Dolphin Emulator, just remember the CRT does change the way you play cause it looks different, hides graphical defects, and has no lag at all so games feel hyper responsive. RE4 is like Doom, a game ported to everything, unfortunately only the OG version is how the game is supposed to work
people who use the red 9, know its power, people who use the leon basic handgun, know its power too.
Regular handgun with silencer is my favorite. Stylish and x5 headshot chance. I also think that the blacktail is still the strongest tho.. Not as stylish as the red9 but it has way better dps

Related to 1:50 heres a fun fact about re4s drop system. On pro you wont get more than 2 health items, normal has no restrictions. Handgun ammo will stop spawning when you have 70 rounds. If a handgun is your only weapon you will not be capped on ammo drops, and will get larger drops of ammo. Rifle rounds have no restrictions on the ammount of ammo you can carry. Shotguns is around 60 rounds. Ironically magnums also have no ammo cap, meaning if youre good at farming/ have good/ forced rng, theoretically, a magnum only run could be possible
if you play mercenaries' mode, you know Krauser can transform his blade arm at will

To be honest the main bosses (salazar and Mendez) i would define as not "good bosses."
I dunno why but shinji mikami has a fetish for instant kill attacks on his bosses, and honestly it makes them not only feel annoying but aggravatingly stale. The king of it has to be these two for how stale and somehow erratic at the same time. They can literally just decide to stay idle for a full minute or never let you take a shot at them, which for mono gun runs is downright _cheap_
