I have a 2022 Mazda cx-5 and my wife has the 2017. I can get to the test screen but it doesn't enter JCI Test Mode once I've held down the DEL button for 20 seconds... Nothing happens...? Maybe a later version of software... Is there a way to work around this?
Not working on firmware 70.0.021 NA. You can hold DEL all you want but there’s never a test code. I’m curious if there’s another code in the newer software. I want to get the updated usb cables and connector for Apple CarPlay and not being able to touch is a show stopper. Heck not being able to move favorites around even at 10 mph stinks!

Also noticed his enter button is constantly lit up like he can click it where mine is greyed out and can't be selected.. is this the new update he's saying makes it not work? But he told me "as he knew", the company take this as a safety feature that the driver will never have a chance to reach out to the screen when car is moving, mostly for law sue consideration I assume. So the older models, when maintained in the dealer's shop, will be patched to close such "backdoor". However, I am not able to verify this information since I no longer have that 2016. I think you may check your software version to see when it's updated.

Other car companies don't do this, but you do have a point about drivers being attentive. That said, it's as if they don't consider the possibility of PASSENGERS. There's no reason a passenger shouldn't be able to use the touch screen. Mazda is over the top with this. It's annoying enough that we won't be buying another next time around...esp since this hack doesn't work on the 2020 CX5.
Totally get it and thought the same thing until after driving around my Mazda for 3 years- I spend way more time focusing on what I’m trying to click on with the weird, turn dial down by hip than I do when I can simply touch the screen. And many times, the turn dial requires 2-3 clicks and movements whereas the touch screen gets it done in one. Plus my eyes are up near my windshield and not down by my hip at the center console, which with where all of the buttons are. I firmly believe the touchscreen is way safer.
2019 Mazda CX-3 ver 59NA did not work on holding the DEL 20 or more secs, can access the Test Screen only but not the JCI screen. I also tried update the software to a newer version from 59NA and it would not do that either.
@@kmedado no. This is definitely a hack the dealers wouldn't support. My mazda is a 2017, and later software revisions made it much more difficult to do these hacks. The user forums would be your only resource.
I just discovered with my 2018 mazda3 if you press those 3 buttons and spin the toggle it will go thru a bunch of settings for the car. Can't tell which one is for touch screen
Just found out about this. Worked fine on my '16 MX-5 Miata (without navigation). Difficult to understand due to poor audio, but figured it out after repeated viewing. Particularly helpful because access to and use of the darned Commander controls is pretty much impossible in the Miata. Thanks mucho.
For starters I’m glad it worked for you, now if you want to change the color theme go to mazda3revolution.com and on search bar type all in one tweaks read the whole thing so you can understand and download the program, that will allow you to do several cool things to your Miata. ALSO DO NOT ADD CARPLAY TO YOUR CAR OR IT WILL CHANGE YOUR FIRMWARE TO ONE THAT NOTHING WILL WORK NOT EVEN THE TWEAKS.

I did this trick on software v33, then updated to latest a few days later for CarPlay. I can no longer access JCI test mode but the speed limiter setting carried over. Now I have CarPlay and touch while driving. I’ve never used any tweaks. Hopefully someone else can reproduce this.
Super late reply, but I just ran into this problem. I think downgrading the software to v33, then disabling the touch, and then upgrading back to v70 might work. I’ll try this and let you know if it works, if you still care.

@@2022908 I found an answer on Reddit: this only works if your system hasn't been changed. Once you get an upgrade like Apple Car Play, the system is locked and you're stuck.
When i go to the test screen, I’m not able to press any buttons, when I’m in the main menu of the infotainment doesn’t matter if I’m parked or moving…touchscreen doesn’t work anymore. I upgraded the usb hub for carplay along with v70 software…along with a file to be able to tweak in the future, that’s how i was able to get all my abarth/fiat branding back, all works, i can still tweak with AIO, only problem is touchscreen. Doesn't work for my EU Spec 2017 MX-5 RF GT. Test menu shows ## in the field above the keypad and a reference to the CD-Player or something (I'll confirm later) in both fields on the right, but doesn't do anything after twenty (or more) seconds of touching the DEL key. I never get to the point where I can enter the 11.
Hey there! hope you're not still having this question/ issue, but if you are, the diag console works as a toggle for the button the guy in the video shows to press. Therefore if you want to toggle it off, all you need to do is go through the process presented in the video once more and that will toggle the option off, instead of on.

Just note that if your Mazda has version 59.00.441 or higher this does not work. Nothing will happen when you hold the DEL icon. If you have a version lower than what I listed above then you should be fine.
No. You will not be able to do it with your current version as I stated above. Mazda must have caught on, because it no longer does anything when you hold down the "DEL" icon for 20 seconds before entering "11" into the menu.
Hello, I really need your help.. Yesterday I went to play in the car test panel to remove the speed sensor to have access to my screen when I drive. Except that I think I caught something else during the process and since last night, my screen no longer turns on.. I tried all the button combinations for all types of resets with the car on and off and I also tried removing the SD card and putting it back in I know the Nav system is not broken, I just need a solution on how to force it to do a factory reset

The key is the firmware. How load the correct one. Then then the prompts in this video work.

Works on 2016 CX-5 GX, GPS also works perfectly. Doesn't work on 2017 CX-5 GT, long press DEL on test screen doesn't bring up JCI test panel.

@@kmedado it's a Linux system. Boot script on a flash drive gets run on restart. These mods are explained in mazda revolution forum

This trick no longer works unless you are running a very old fireware version (see the date of the video). If you have AA/CP, it will not work.

No i did the same with my car installed the CarPlay usb module and wires and it doesn’t let me do that anymore

I think the Scion has the blue them just like I did on my Mazda 6
It does, the menu set up is a little different, going to use a different method to disable the touch lock.

Just note that if your Mazda has version 59.00.441 or higher this does not work. Nothing will happen when you hold the DEL icon. If you have a version lower than what I listed above then you should be fine.
I forgot to mention this. If you followed this tutorial prior to upgrading to 59.00.441 you will still have this feature after upgrading.
I got into the section to enter "11" but it doesn't accept that as a code. Has a new code been identified someplace?

No. You will not be able to do it with your current version as I stated above. Mazda must have caught on, because it no longer does anything when you hold down the "DEL" icon for 20 seconds before entering "11" into the menu.
Actually, I can hold the delete button and it lets me type the first 1 but then the second one doesn't show up on the screen
So after you hold the "DEL" icon down for 20 seconds, what appears on the right side of the screen?

Yesterday I went to play in the car test panel to remove the speed sensor to have access to my screen when I drive. Except that I think I caught something else during the process and since last night, my screen no longer turns on..
I tried all the button combinations for all types of resets with the car on and off and I also tried removing the SD card and putting it back in
I know the Nav system is not broken, I just need a solution on how to force it to do a factory reset

I got 2016 mazda miata and touch screen doesn't work, went into test screen and try to get to delete with rotary won't let me. I can't type in 11 either. Scrolled through and there is no 11.

It doesn’t work in newer models, my cay is a 2016 but I added CarPlay and that completely screwed the blue accents and the touchscreen while driving.

2019 CX 5, this doesn’t work at all from the start, as in holding down “del” and no access to the mentioned #11…
does this work on 2016 and 2017 models? And is there a possible way to allow the car especially the Mazda MX-5 RF to perform the convertible function at speeds higher than 6 miles an hour???

Didn't work on a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Sig. I can get to the test screen, but pressing DEL for a long time doesn't do anything.
If I do this will it stuff up my apple CarPlay? Thanks.
