I just finished fixing the ghost touch issue in my 2017 Mazda 6 Touring, this post on removing the trim was significantly helpful.
*IF YOU HAVE THE GHOST TOUCH ISSUE IN YOUR MAZDA* I was paranoid about removing the trim and accidentally breaking it, but I later realized that it wasn’t hard at all (used a metal putty knife and just started at the ends and worked my way up carefully, just gotta take that first leap of faith and give it a try). The hardest part of the process was the 10mm bolt (removing it was difficult, but putting it back in was the single most difficult step of the entire process). Once I had the infotainment screen completely removed from the car, I was unable to completely pry off the back cover to access the circuitry, so instead I just pulled the back cover as far as I could and then tore off the copper ribbon with some pliers (everything else in the screen and car still works perfectly fine). This video (and the link below) both saved me from spending over $1000 to replace with a new infotainment system.

@@_abxsala21_39the link at the bottom of my original comment is a video that shows how to deactivate the touchscreen. Just pull away the golden ribbon piece that you see around the 2:08 mark of the video so that it’s not connected to the other part (or just tear the ribbon in half with some pliers if you can’t pull it away like I did). Tearing the ribbon effectively deactivates the touch screen and ghost touch issue, just means that you can’t re-activate the touch screen (which I never used or really cared about anyways)
