Very beautiful. I hope to get some gel pens soon. I would love to learn how to use them.

I’ve been working with gel pens forever and I love them. It’s funny that you use this technique because I discovered this by accident. I accidentally smeared some of the color and I decided to use it to my advantage. I’ve been doing this ever since. I was using Q-tips but I saw someone use a small, stiff paint brush and I loved how it looked so I’ve been doing it like that and I really like the outcome.

I've been repeating to myself "Embrace the Smear." I'm so glad I learned that technique from you; it has saved me so much ink, especially when covering large areas. And I personally cannot stand scribble marks gel pens leave in larger areas. Smearing leaves it perfectly SMOOTH. I like to wet my finger, too, to help move the ink even farther. BTW I also love getting colors/ink/paint on my fingers -- nothing better in the world!

That's so cool. I wish I could get gel pens to put down color over colored pencils. What's the secret because seems like the colored pencil resists any gel pen over it.

Have you tried silicone shapers for pottery or polymer clay to blend? It would be great for getting in small spaces I think. :)

Very beautiful effect. But I hate getting my fingers dirty. Can I use a fine square brush instead or even those small cheap eye makeup spongy applicators. Target and CVS sells them. I don't have Prisma color pencils yet, just regular colored pencils. I'm so glad I found your page, I'm learning an awful lot, you're a GREAT teacher!

+Jenny Propis, I recently released a video with a new tool I'm using to do the blending and smearing with gel pens. It works FANTASTIC! I think the video was called New Gel Pen Tool.

Hi Jennifer. Thank you for the instructional video! You make it look SO easy. Have you ever tried a White-Out liquid pen to correct mistakes? If so, what are the reasons that we should or shouldn't use them?

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Mary. Thanks for your kind comment. Yes, I have used white out to correct my mistakes in the past and I currently prefer using a matte white paint pen because it doesn't leave behind so much thick, gritty residue. Plus the white out pen dried out really fast for me. Have fun!

+Dani Neuenschwander, I hear you! I have wondered about doing the spiral along the top. I am not a lefty, as you can see, but the spiral gets in my way sometimes too. I will think about this for future books.

Hi Jennifer! You mentioned a "sparkle" gel pen used in your flower. Is that the same as metallic or glitter, or is "sparkle" another type of gel pen? Thanks, Dee

the only problem I have is the pens tend to not work at all or seem to get clogged from the wax of the pencils. Am I using the pencils too hard and causing a wax bloom? Any suggestions? I love to use my pens mor and get more as well sense some of them are juicy and well others I have to fight with to work even alone.

Help me please.I know I can erase a pencil mistake and an alcohol blender will fix an alcohol marker mistake. What pray tell does it take or what is needed to erase a mistake with a gel pen? I have a beautiful new coloring book by a Japanese artist and she recommends using gel pens or pencils. The gel pens are so much more vivid but I ave vision issues, 90% loss in right eye,. I never color anything without mistakes.
So please can you help me?
I watch you color and your talent and love of color are a joy to watch and listen to. I have learned so much from you.
    Your Florida friend,

You should close your right eye and then start coloring. My friend has a problem like that too. She does the same thing. Hope this helps you out

Della Rogers Color over the top of your mistakes with a really opaque white gel pen like the uniball signo or even a white paint marker like the posca pen. If you go the white gel pen route you'll want to start a little further out from the mistake and make sure that the gel pen is really flowing well, you may want to skribble a bit on some scratch paper or even better a piece of glass or mirror to get it flowing really well, and then very lightly start making small circles to lay the thick uniball signo ink on top of whatever you want to fix. It will blend back into the white of the paper like it never existed! Try not to be too hard on yourself though. Nobody is perfect and absolutely everyone makes coloring mistakes unless of course they don't color! Sorry that I'm 3 months late on your comment but since no one had really answered your question I figured it could still be helpful. Happy coloring!

I would try a colorless alcohol marker, or alternately alcohol on a cotton bud/ball. THe same as markers, gel ink is water-based.
