I haven't colored in years - literally years, like decades but am loving this new craze. I am a subscriber to your pages and love them. It would not have occurred to me to use gel pens to color with in the first place!! Smearing on purpose sounds like something I can do. Thank you so much for the videos.
Hi Jennifer! I've been a member for about 2 years. I'm a Bliss Colorist. I'm going through all your videos from the very beginning! I'm hoping will get me out of my coloring slump. I just got my Swatch Bliss book in the mail today. I LOVE IT! Thanks for all your videos and tutorials and especially the Bliss Printshop!! 😘😘😘
WOW, the color combinations you used! Already was loving the rose! It's what I'm doing now working on blendings and plants or mid to small scenery with people and trying make stickers too. Washi tape next! I watched your video for trying to get gel pens to work. Most I tried except the pin insert. I needed the Q-tip reminder. Seen theme used on pastels, soft oil, an chalky, as well a acrylic paint 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
I started coloring with the Gelly Roll pens almost 18yrs ago when I worked for Viking Office Products. Every time a new set came out I had to have it. I sure miss the discount but when it comes to my coloring supplies I tend to search for extra in my budget. I'm 50 and disabled so it's tough for me to get to stores. I seem to find most of my pens and pencils on Amazon. I really appreciate all the work that you put into these videos for us. I may not be an artist but I darned sure like to color. Please don't stop posting techniques and product finds. If you find any good buys, let us know!
Hi Jennifer I think what you do is fantastic . I have MS . I enjoy your videos . they're encouragement to show all of us who have disabilities and you don't let them get in your way you are very creative and you inspire me to bring out the creative side to keep doing what you're doing encourages all of us thank you 😊
Charla, thank you so much for such a kind comment. I am trying so hard to keep living my life and I love being able to share my journey with amazing people just like you ❤️
I don't really enjoy coloring with gel pens exclusively, but I do enjoy using them as highlights in my pictures I color. My favorites are the glittery ones. :)
The Uniball Signo Broad white pen is my favorite. Lays down a nice thick line of ink. Awesome video! I feel like playing with my gel pens now! Thank you!
Hello- just want to say THANK YOU! I can now blend! Working on some large crayola coloring pages...the Disney fairies! I am amazed at how easy and fun your instructions have made this activity!! Cheers, hu
Great video Jennifer! I agree with a comment below.... as far as the white pen I like the most..... hands down, it's the Uniball Signo! I love it.... juicy, doesn't skip and it's typically opaque. I love it and haven't found one better!
Hi Jennifer. Just watched #2 of blending the gel pens while waiting for the 1st layer of gesso to dry... Girl I can't the tell you how much you inspire me and I always learn something new from your videos. At the start of one of these 2 videos it shows you at a picnic bench in a park that is breathtakingly beautiful.I just don't know how to express my enjoyment of you. you are soo talented and sweet to boot! Keep up the great work I know I am not the only "peep" ?? that lovrs you. Happy Coloring from Bobbi in TX...👀👋🎶
WOW..... So love your coloring you showed at beginning of this video. I am amazed hour wonderful they looked with gel pens.. Now you have given me te bug to go out and buy some gel pens to use with my coloring books. GREAT VIDEO.... THANKS...
Thank you for showing your pretty pictures and your great tips on how to color them. I love gel pens too, and now I will probably use them more after watching this video. I am definitely going to buy your book! Thanks for the tip about the dollar store gel pens too! I'll be back!
I know this is an older video but I absolutely love the Signa uniball white gel pen! Works the best and I've tried several white gel and paint pens with no luck! TFS!
Hi! This may sound an odd question, but where can I buy those q tips (cotton buds they’re called in Australia)? The ones you use around 5:44 with one flat head and the other, a sort of spirally chisel head? They look fantastic? I looked on eBay and can’t find them. What are the ones you use called and do you know of a link where I could get them? 😃 ps hi from Australia 🇦🇺
I have seen them at my local Walmart recently and also at my local CVS pharmacy. Usually in the cosmetic area not the baby isle. Good luck hunting them down.
Another great video, Jennifer! Can hardly wait to try the blending techniques with the gel pens! Last night I went out and bought some of those little cotton swabs at the drug store in preparation for this video because I had a sneak peek! Oh, and I also went to the dollar store and purchased a silicone spatula - the exact one that you have!!! Now it's time to experiment!
I've been using gel pens since the early 1990's when they first hit the craft stores. They were targeted towards journaling in scrapbooks, when scrap booking was just getting popular. I've loved them since day one. They have evolved into the juicy pens of today. But they used to be a lot drier. I've tried and have many different brands. My all-time favorites are jelly roll's, simply because they last longer than others and they have a lot of colors. Although, the Costco pens are pretty wonderful, but the pens don't last long. After about 3 months of use, most of the pens are 3/4 - Empty of ink. Thank you for your videos! After years of using gel pens I just learned from you that they can be blended! That is exciting. My little Maltese named Chloe says 'ruff' to your little Rose!
+Barbara Stender, say hi to Chloe for me! I'm giving away a package of Gelly Roll pens on my Facebook page on Wednesday and another package here in a week or two! So much fun!!
+Barbara Stender, say hi to Chloe for me! I'm giving away a package of Gelly Roll pens on my Facebook page on Wednesday and another package here in a week or two! So much fun!!
I think Uniball has a tiny blob of plastic to seal the tip which must be popped off with your fingernail. The white is the brightest white of any pen I've used but since it is water based, it will reactivate what is underneath and tint the white so you have to adjust to that property. Great tutorial and really loved your first one since I have wondered what was the best way to store them. Also, I agree that manufacturers should have a clear barrel but suspect that the ones that don't have a smaller amount of ink inside which reduces the cost. Thanks for all your tips.
mary w hmm I hadn’t thought of that - not having a clear so you can’t see how much ink they have (or don’t) in the pen. I like clear barrel ones because it gives you a more accurate idea of the ink colour than the lid on the pen. When you say that they’re by far the best white pen, are you still talking about Uniball, or are you just talking about them in relation to having that little gel blob on the tip that you have to pull off when you first buy them? So is it Uniball that has the best white? Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Hi ! Great video and thank you so much!. I coloured an entire picture with gel pens only and when I took a picture of it, I can see white spots showing through. How do I colour with gel pens to ensure that white spots don't show up in between? Should I go over it with layers of the same colour?
I love love love your channel, You are the one that introduced me to gel pens and look at me now i ask for gel pens every year for Christmas and my birthday (my b-day is Jan. 3) thx btw
I only have one book right now, but yes, it's spiral bound! :) I have the art ready for a 2nd volume and hope to publish it soon, but my plan is to have it spiral bound as well.
Loved this . you must try the white Uniball signo broad (1mm ) or angelic(finer). The angelic now come in several colors. The broad is more limited in colours . but it is the best white out there . I suggest getting both sizes of the white .
Me too! They just sent me a new set to test out. I will be posting a video about it soon. By the way...they recently rebranded their pens so if you want to buy more you should look for Gelwriter not Techwriter. 😊
You are very welcome. What gel pens would you recommend? I own everyone put out by Gelly Roll. I just hate that you can't get anything in open stock except the ones that cost a fortune. Like you I want them juicy or I don't want them at all. They have to blend well or they are useless to me. Any suggestions?
I know this is old, but I just found you and subscribed to your website and I've been watching your tutorials. I just bought my second set of gel pens. I REALLY want to love this medium. I do. But I am SO BAD with them. I make a mess every time. I bout a big set of Tanmits and gave them to a friend, and I recently bout 120 set of Shuttle, so I'm gonna watch a few tutorials before I crack them open and try again lol.
Thanks for subscribing Renae and I hope you have lots of fun! Let me know if you have any tutorial suggestions. I have a lot of videos already filmed, so stay tuned! 😊
I loooovvveee my glitter pens. I'm using Chromotek and I love them. They are all glitter, in a 50 pack with refills on Amazon. If you use gel pens a lot then you're going to know how not to make a mess.
+Heather Plauche, I have but it wasn't my favorite technique. I recently discovered something new that is working really well...watch for a new video soon. 😊😊😊
Jennifer, you mentioned that Gel pens come in different point sizes. What size would you recommend for adult coloring books and blending without the edge of each color showing. I noticed here that I sometimes could see a line between two colors pretty clearly. What brands and tip sizes do you consider the best for blending well and not being too rough on the paper? Should we use card stock or 140 lb. watercolor paper to avoid bleed through and paper damage? What paper are you using in your book shown here? Sorry for all the questions, but my granddaughters want Gel pens, and I have never used them and don't know anything about them. I want their experience with them to be positive. Thank you, Dee
Lots of great questions. Let’s see...for me, the broader the point the better (let’s more ink flow out) for example...I love the 1.00mm bold tip of the Pentel Sparkle POP Pens. Pen brands...i always recommend getting 1 large set (like GelWriter or similar) to get started and then purchase some of the smaller more specialized (and expensive) sets like the Pentel and the Gelly Roll. Paper - I like a nice thick cardstock that isn’t too smoky for gel pens. If it’s too smooth, the pen will just slip. Have fun!! 😊
I am trying to locate a set of classic color gel pens that does NOT have any of the glitter, metallic, or swirl colors (neon and pastels okay). Do you know if such a thing exists?
I love gel pens I just learned how to fix a mistake with the white pen wow it's awesome! Also, I order the refills for the pens on eBay very good price.
Hello. Do you always start with the lightest colored pencil and work up to the darkest, or would you get the same result starting with the darkest, then the middle color, then the lightest color all over? I can't seem to figure out the best method.
Hi Deanna, I always start with the lightest because it is easier to add colors then it is to remove them. If you start with light you can build up the color and control the result better. But as always...I say experiment and see what works best! Have fun!
I have charts for all my coloring tools. Pencils, markers, paint.. but than when it came to gel pens, I had no ideas how to organize them.i gathered them into color families. Swatched the pens on paper. Rearranging the colors till right for my..I took a sharpie, and wrote thr new number code. Now, I can find a get pen in minutes. It takes two hours, mark, organize, chart!but then, it’s done. Kathy
If I have a gel pen that is acting like it’s out of ink, but you can clearly see the ink in the ink shaft, is there a way to fix it 😩 I’m in the middle of a page 😢
+Ann Hovland, the generic color swatches I made for colored pencils can be used for gel pens or markers too! They are on my website under the blog tab.
I realize this is an older video, but just in case anyone is still looking for a good white gel pen, try the Uni-ball Signo Angelic. I thought Sakura was the best, but there is absolutely no contest for an opaque white - especially to cover mistakes as you are doing in the video.
That's the problem with sealant and gel pens. Use acrylic paint for wood painting , not gel pens then definately use clear or clear with glitter sealer. For words, you can use paint pens then add glitter or metallic effects.
Yes Jennifer I believe God has given each of us a Journey in life just a different one for each of us. What we do with that journey and if we keep faith in God he will use us and I feel he's using you in a creative way and you have a creative spirit that he's giving you thank you for following him and using it have a blessed day😊🙏
charla zimmerman-polk You're right, God has given us each a path, and hers is very nice and was easy to find what gift God has given her. We all have a great trait or two, they might just be harder to see. Keep looking because God gave you that gift and he knows you can do great things with it.
OMG how can I buy your coloring book?? :D I am trying to find it but nothing is showing up. I want a hard copy of it, not a pdf cause I dont own a printer XD
+Weird_Girl ^_^, unfortunately it's out of print right now, but I am working to get it back into hard copy. I'm so glad you like it so much 😊❤️. Come follow me on my Facebook page...I will announce it there when I am ready to take orders again.
Coloring Pages Bliss oh I hope you can get the hard copies back on the market soon :) I'll definitely buy one, or possibly two if my sister is interested XD and yes I love your book and all your videos and you in general :D you're awesome. And yes I'll be following you on your fb page ^_^
The gel pens I'm using are available on Amazon. Here is a link to get you started... www.amazon.com/TEKwriterUSA-Premium-Gel-Pens-Count/dp/B018WQYD4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470085898&sr=8-1&keywords=gel+writer+tek+writer&_encoding=UTF8&tag=colopageblis-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=67b8f470c82c1dd98c8afa54235b216a&camp=1789&creative=9325
White Gelly Roll isn't any more impressive than the one you used. They tend to be very translucent. I agree with you that paint pens make better cover-ups.
+Daryl Lynn right now I’m really enjoying the Blick Studio Brush Markers. Great alcohol marker alternative to Copics. I also love the Tombow dual brush water based markers.
Uchtam gel pens are the best just search up uchtam on amazon and you can get them. They have the best and most ink they have no scratches and they are the cheepest
Jennifer wow yep were obsessed with gel pens, glitter pens , I love the sakura gel pens awesome worth the couple bucks try blitsy.com special on inks all the time great prices!!
She's showing real world gelpen use. First experience with new set, how to blend ,correct
mistakes, plus/minus with the brand. A+
Thanks Mary 😊❤️
I like that you don't have background music! Well done!
I haven't colored in years - literally years, like decades but am loving this new craze. I am a subscriber to your pages and love them. The jelly roll white is my favorite gel pen. It has never failed me one time. They also say the unaball signo pen is good and juicy.
Thanks Judy!

Yeah, I agree with you about highlighting and such
Love that your book assumes you're going to cut the page out! I always take the page out before coloring for ease of use. I'm hooked on gel pens too!
+Lynne Clark, they are so fun to color and write with! I keep buying more 😳😊
The Uniball Signo Broad white pen is my favorite. Lays down a nice thick line of ink. Awesome video! I feel like playing with my gel pens now! Thank you!

+Kim Linford, thanks for watching and have fun coloring and playing with your gel pens!
I've been blending the gels with water pens. Your suggestion of leaving an under layer with markers is working out well for me. Thank you.
how do you blend them with water?
@@funbeauty18 just like with water color as they are water soluble but go light with the water as many coloring books have lightweight paper
Nice work! Can you tell me what Prismacolors you used in the shot at 3:08 in the video? I can't tell if those are colored pencils or markers. Thanks!
I just bought that set of gel pens. I am really excited to use in my drawings. Thanks for sharing your technique.
+marizen2, you're welcome. 😊
I love the jelly roll set!
Great ideas for blending, etc. Do you have a video of the rose?? Love it! Thanks so much!!
I tried the tanmit 250 set and the colors are nice and juice " love them and I I'm a prismacolor person
I know this is an older video but I absolutely love the Signa uniball white gel pen! Works the best and I've tried several white gel and paint pens with no luck! TFS!

This video is really helpful!!! I have a question, how do you fix the picture if you accidentally smudge it?
I just discovered your TH-cam channel and it's great. Thank you so much for all the great information.
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for subscribing! 😊
My favorite white gel pen is the Signo Uni-Ball white gel pen.
I love love love your channel, You are the one that introduced me to gel pens and look at me now i ask for gel pens every year for Christmas and my birthday (my b-day is Jan. 3) thx btw
The best white is uniball signo. I also like my SunAngel gel pen set. Both are found on Amazon. Have you tried the technique of using a water brush?
+Kathy doubleu, I will check on the SunAngel brand. I have tried the water brush, but I always hesitate to add water if I can find a way to avoid it.
Hi Jennifer.....the absolute BEST white gel pen is the SIGNO! Happy coloring😁
I will have to pick one up and try it out! Thank you 😊
+Coloring Pages Bliss are all of your coloring books spiral bound?
I only have one book right now, but yes, it's spiral bound! :) I have the art ready for a 2nd volume and hope to publish it soon, but my plan is to have it spiral bound as well.
Absolutely agree the best white gel pen is the uni-ball signo!!!
+Ms. L
Where do you guys buy this pen? The only place I have seen it so far is online.
Loved this . you must try the white Uniball signo broad (1mm ) or angelic(finer). The angelic now come in several colors. The broad is more limited in colours . but it is the best white out there . I suggest getting both sizes of the white .
I love the Tekwriter pens very much.

Thank you for the tip of the paint pen....I have been using a stylus and white acrylic paint.
+Dani Neuenschwander, I love my paint pen for so many side projects. It comes in very handy.
I just ordered those. Yay! I got it right!
thanks for sharing I've been trying to learn how to shade n blend with gel pens love this to great job ❤
+Kendall Simmons, I have a new tip I will be sharing soon! I love coloring with gel pens!

Try Tanmit. I love them so much.
the metallic ones are the most juicy for me, and they blend the best too. Though hands down i love the glitter pens the best.
+Izzy'n Stuff, you sound like me!!
Hahah lol!
You should come up with your own brand of gel pens and call them Jen's Juicy Jellies! Lol. Whatcha think?
+YoMaMaJme, LOVE this idea!!! I would love to create my own line of gel pens...maybe someday 😉
Who do you print your book through? I am interesting in getting out coloring book myself.
I finally found a white gel pen I love on Amazon. I was so excited. It's called Art-n-fly. I was so excited I ordered 5 more.
I have been looking at the Sakura pens. Have you tried the 3D pens? Happy New Year. :)
+hugsandasmil, not yet! So many fun art tools to try!
I loooovvveee my glitter pens. I'm using Chromotek and I love them. They are all glitter, in a 50 pack with refills on Amazon. If you use gel pens a lot then you're going to know how not to make a mess.

Good job work love it
I have good luck with my white pens that are opaque and also a clear gel pen that has sparkles in it. They are jelly roll pens
+Carolyn Miller, I love the metallic Gelly Rolls...I just got a few more because a girl can never have too many gel pens 😉
Hello. Do you always start with the lightest colored pencil and work up to the darkest, or would you get the same result starting with the darkest, then the middle color, then the lightest color all over? I can't seem to figure out the best method.
Hi Deanna,
I always start with the lightest because it is easier to add colors then it is to remove them.
Kathy
Great suggestion! Thanks for sharing! It’s nice to see a few companies starting to name their pens. Hopefully this trend will continue.
If I have a gel pen that is acting like it’s out of ink, but you can clearly see the ink in the ink shaft, is there a way to fix it 😩 I’m in the middle of a page 😢
Beautiful!! Thank you 😊
Is there a color swatch template anywhere one could print to fill in the colors of the gel pens in the Tek Writer gels?
+Ann Hovland, the generic color swatches I made for colored pencils can be used for gel pens or markers too! They are on my website under the blog tab.
I realize this is an older video, but just in case anyone is still looking for a good white gel pen, try the Uni-ball Signo Angelic. I thought Sakura was the best, but there is absolutely no contest for an opaque white - especially to cover mistakes as you are doing in the video.
I used gel pens for words on wood. Didn't think about maybe sealer smearing the gel. Is there anything I can use to seal the words?
That's the problem with sealant and gel pens. Use acrylic paint for wood painting , not gel pens then definately use clear or clear with glitter sealer. For words, you can use paint pens then add glitter or metallic effects.
Hi everyone! Is it possible to find "GLITTER" pens only without neon and metallic ones in the mix?
Super Doodle brand used to make a really nice large pack of all glitter pens. Check out that brand on Amazon.
My favorite tool
I like your blending tutorial
Yes Jennifer I believe God has given each of us a Journey in life just a different one for each of us. What we do with that journey and if we keep faith in God he will use us and I feel he's using you in a creative way and you have a creative spirit that he's giving you thank you for following him and using it have a blessed day😊🙏
charla zimmerman-polk I'm a atheist lol
Delia Smith dosnt that mean you don't belive in god? If so than I am too.
charla zimmerman-polk You're right, God has given us each a path, and hers is very nice and was easy to find what gift God has given her. We all have a great trait or two, they might just be harder to see. Keep looking because God gave you that gift and he knows you can do great things with it.
Another Atheist checking in, I believe firmly that our talents are from our own hard work and motivation, not "God" given.
Cheryl Millard God actually doesn’t give us much, he just allows for stuff to happen.
What dollar store did you get the one you color the rose with?

Does a gel pen stay wet or will it eventually dry on your coloring page
+bobbysonus2005 it dries...sometimes too quickly for me. The drying time depends on the brand and the kind of paper.
I love your videos. I too get ink.paint whatever on me when I create. Its fun. Im sick too. I have RA . Art has saved me in many ways
+Anne Loder, sounds like we would be great art friends! Thanks for watching my videos. 😊

+Johnna Longnecker, the ones I store standing up...I have mine in the stands they came in or in jars and cans.
i have mine standing in butter containers
+Johnna Longnecker, awesome! I love reusing items like that...saves money for buying more gel pens 😉lol
White Gelly Roll isn't any more impressive than the one you used. They tend to be very translucent. I agree with you that paint pens make better cover-ups.
do you have a mandala book?
+Daryl Lynn I will soon...I’m so excited!!
i have the same exact ones :0
what are your favorite markers?
+Daryl Lynn right now I’m really enjoying the Blick Studio Brush Markers. Great alcohol marker alternative to Copics. I also love the Tombow dual brush water based markers.
