  • In this video, I'll talk about a recent problem while on the road with the RV door lock on my Keystone Bullet 243BHS and the step-by-step process we took to replace the lock. Having your door lock fail and not being able to get into the RV can be a startling situation and leave you outside looking in. Replacing the lock is not a difficult task that most RV owners should be able to tackle.

    Good information on latch replacement. I have the keypad keyless entry on mine . Love it . A little graphite in those keyholes makes those locks last longer in my experience. Thanks for sharing John!

    Well played John as I feel like most people either have an existing setup or a 'hope' for something simpler or more 'Advanced'...My daughter's fake paperclip yet well executed 'fake key' basically destroyed my OG setup in 3 mins of 'tare down' time....Great memories and lessons leared for the family 😆 Keep it up and happy 23' Camp Season 🏕

    I had a a similar issue. The red lock was swinging in the wind. Wouldn't lock from the inside. I took my lock apart and found that the metal bar connecting the red lever to the deadbolt had fallen off! And a screw had fallen out. I just put it all back together, screwed it tight. Lock works fine! I did NOT have to buy a new lockset. Just 10 minutes of my time. I suggest you inspect your current lock before buying the replacement.

    I’m also interested in learning how you were able to retract the dead bolt, when the lock was broken… thanks

      I had to literally break into my RV. I had my other RV keys and figured out a way to get in without destroying anything. Once I was in, I could open the door from the inside.

      @@JohnMarucci yuk…I was hoping you had some way to pop the lock tumbler out from the outside and lever the dead bolt back in…well you won’t be charged with B&E of your own rig😎

    Very good video. We have a 2022 Jayco Precept 34G, and the lock has some difficulties...I can't find a digital keypad with FOB anywhere for my Jayco...it's like nobody makes that kind of keypad locks for class-A motorhomes..I would really appreciate any hint about this ..thank you

      Not sure where to point you other than online groups of similar owners. There may be a Facebook group of Jayco Class A owners to inquire with.

    John, did you consider a keyless lock as a replacement? Could you comment on your decision or pros and cons to keyless? Great video thanks.

      I actually have a keyless RV door lock in a box at home but didn't bring it with me on this trip. I was saving it for a newer RV but may consider putting on this RV as some point. I think they are generally good and generally wouldn't hesitate using one. I am sure there are some TH-cam reviews online. Thanks!

    I've replaced my door handle once and now need another. I'm thinking of going with keyless entry, but wonder if it will be a different size?

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  ปีที่แล้ว

      The keyless entry handles should be a standard cut out size for the door.

    How do I measure to know what size door latch I need ?

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here are the specs for what I installed: Outer Dimensions: 3.47" wide x 4.28" tall.
      Fits doors that are 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick.
      Installs into latch cutouts that are 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" tall to 3" wide x 4" tall.

    Replaced mine a couple of months ago with the OEM electric keypad on my 2015 R pod 179. Still cannot get it to connect to my phone through the Bauer app though.

      @@JohnMarucci Thank you for noting my comment, John. Hope to meet you some day. I'm moving from the Oregon coast to northern Florida, so perhaps that will enhance the probability to come across one another. I replaced the keypad lock with which the RV came. Before I sell the RV I hope to get the App working on my phone to show inquiring persons. Thanks again for the comment and your helpful videos.

    Any suggestions what to do if that little black piece below the lock that holds the screen door to the main outer door starts to come loose? The screws are just set in the aluminum door shell and can no longer be securely tightened. this allows the little black triangular plastic piece ti move freely up and down which prevents it from engaging securely with the screen door.

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was just looking at mine. It looks like if I had to, I could move mine about a 1/4" to the right and reset the screws. The handle that latches has some lateral width that it might work. I suppose the only other solution would be to get a very thin piece of metal as a plate to install on top of the existing holes to screw into. Hope this helps!

    I have 2 doors for that reason. Also for a emergency exit incase.
    I also have spare and masters.
    So if you can. Please explain if you can on getting in. If not I get it. I will now have to check out mine incase.

    Push the latch in, before attempting to remove the lock unit from the exterior if it isn't frozen in place!
