I’m a stay at home mom and I have a huge passion for animals. I’m trying to figure out how to do what I love and earn an income to help support my family. I love watching this channel. I’ve learned soo much!!
Chris the information you give us is priceless. Thank you! This year will be my first year and I've learned so much from you. I'll be so glad when I get to meet you..
The only drawbacks is the raising of your breeding animals. I invested in several $700-$1500 animals, with no intention to make that money back. I love the animals, and will eventually most likely breed them. I think breeding ball pythons can be extremely rewarding, and bring money, but if you don't love the animals and the hobby, your going to burn out and regret it. Best of luck with your breeding season by the way Chris.
I wouldn’t recommend doing anything solely for money especially when it’s animals you’re working with. Standards should be higher than they are in the industry of how we take care of them.
I don't think that was the point of this video, but you aren't wrong. Even with my very limited experience (seriously limited; I'm talking had a ball python when I was 14 limited), doing anything strictly for money or just to shut your kids up often leads to poor treatment of the animal.
We wouldn’t have 80% of the animals available to us if everyone thought like you and that is a conservative estimate you have no idea what it took to create the hobby we have today including smuggling you know nothing
Great video! Can you do a video about how you sell your snakes and how you market your company? You've got a very realistic and business savvy mentality for breeding and I like it a lot. Keep em coming!
I just got a 7 year old 0.1 albino and a 4 year old 1.0 pie bald and a 5 tier rack system for 400 dollars from Craigslist, it was too good of a deal I couldn’t pass
do u have a breeding tutorial? or book for first time breeders im starting my first session today actually and i’ve got most down packed but i want more info from u from the pros of the game i love snakes they’ve been my passion ever since i was a little boy and i turn 20 this year have had multiple ball pythons carpet pythons red tails etc but i’m doing a normal ball clutch for my first and i’m super excited to see where all of this goes
I am so glad I got into this I have a pie ball python on the way female and I have a fire ghost hek ball python female. So let me know how much your Selling one of your males bamboo ball pythons for. Great video thank you
Hey Chris thank you so much for the videos! Literally every question I have, you have a video for. So helpful and I’m so appreciative. You have inspired another to start breeding! So I plan on starting with one male and around 8-10 females. My question is should my one male be enough for that number of females, or what your suggestion would be for amount of females for one breeder male. I’ve also read that having another male around helps your breeder male. So I was thinking maybe a normal to save money? Any insight or information would be appreciated!
If you're talking about breeding and selling, getting the buyers for them can be difficult sometimes. It's not impossible, but you gotta know who to ask. Take care and God bless.
I've never had problems getting buyers for my hatchlings. In fact at the spring shows everyone is looking for ball python hatchlings to sell at the shows, there is a real shortage of them for vendors. If you have any in the spring let me know, I'll pay half retail price and take all you have!
I also never have a problem selling babies. And i breed alot of spider and spider combos. They fly out of the tubs and yes i inform every buyer about the spider wobble. Although most are good about it and have already done their research.
I've been thinking about getting in to ball pythons maybe just 1 or 2 pair . Trying to fully decide on what morph to work with . Something bright and clean .
Maybe get 3 females of varying morphs then get one male with multiple genes boom you have a great year i recommend fire, leopard, and pastel for the females and really any multi-gene male will work

Proven snakes can be a good investment buuut make sure to get them from someone reputable people. Ask if they are problematic in any way. How old they are, how many clutches have they had and did they have issues while she was gravid. Are her genetics guaranteed Are they picky feeders...mousers, asf rats? You just need to be careful and ask the right questions. Also, a lot of breeders will sell proven females right after she is starting to fattened up after her last clutch and you GENERALLY want to wait for the next breeding season to breed her (although many breeders will breed females back to back).
Nope, no email. I used to have one but I started getting hundreds of emails every day, too many to deal with so I got rid of it. Now I just post videos and respond to comments under the videos.
Yea, I had to dump my phone, way too many texts and e-mails. It's a bit overwhelming LOL. I had a Spider video go a bit viral and at that point I couldn't keep up with the comments under the videos either, not sure how big channels do it.

This is such a good video. Thanks for your honesty. I am trying to make a better life for my son and have been thinking of getting into this, but was thinking of getting older snakes that have already been bred or are ready - but I'm so scared the older ones will bite. Also, I am wondering if I put it in a terrarium (live plant habitat) if I can breed it in there? I've heard snakes are healthier with live plants (I don't have a green thumb)
Great video and gorgeous snakes! I'd love to get into breeding boas. I wonder what the return on breeding them is compared to ball pythons. I have two pet ball pythons and love them, but my first love is boas! I'm a huge fan of Bullsnakes and Western Hognose as well!
If I got a Patel banana clown and bred it with my normal female would I get anything visually different from just normal ? Is it still totally up to chance even with a visual parent?
I am a bit confused. Since keeping and breeding ball pythons seems to be on the lower end of animal husbandry work requirements, why don't all collectors breed them themselves? I would think the demand for ball pythons would vastly decrease as more get acquired due to this. How does demand maintain itself after several years of investment? I'd have thought it would become saturated by now.
Most of the people buying high end morphs are collectors. So the demand is relatively constant. It takes 3 years at least to raise a generation, that's a lot of time and work so it's not free money. When I was 12 an Albino BP hatchling was over 2,000, now they're 300. So the demand did go down as more people bred them. But that takes a long time, and now there are many more morphs that fetch an even higher price.
@@maxcarren112 Thanks Max. Since I wrote that I've done far more research and it appears that phenotypic variation as well as a new basic morph coming into the population every year or so means that the market seems to refresh itself regularly. Also, it seems that things like paradox and chimerism fetch a hefty price and those are unlikely to saturate the market due to their non-genetic nature. It is really impressive just how vast and diverse ball python morphs are.

Chris Hardwick thanks I’m just now getting into ball pythons. Thinking about breeding in the future. So I’m all over Craigslist looking for good deals. I have a ghi pastel right now still don’t know sex. But what would match up well with the ghi pastel? Thanks man. Liked and subbed.
Man ball pythons are expensive where you live, where I live in Canada a normal ball python goes for like 30-50$ at most even pastels are only like 100$, seems to be a pet for warmer climates. You can make a killing breeding live stock here though.
Breeding is something that I have wanted to try for decades and could finally be happening. With that said based on my calculations of CoGs and a selling point of 300/ea 60 neonates a year that yields 1500 a month if you breed your own rats. Profit drops down to 1250 a month if you buy from rodent pro. If you go rodent pro route you need to sell all 60 neonates at a minimum of 450$ea. Large scale breeders must have many Revenue streams as this doesn’t make dollars and cents.
This is why i dont mind making single gene or simple double gene morphs even hets that are not that expensive even normals still get 50$ each and people tend to buy them more then the higher end morphs its kind of surprising how many simple genes are sold every year
Up here in the mountains we can have roosters, no problems. I found out that if you have hens and roosters you can only have one rooster or they will fight to the death. However, if you don't have any hens you can have a bunch of roosters together and they don't fight at all. At one point I had about five roosters and no hens, they sure crowed a lot!
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures my favorite part of having roosters was when they were just starting to find their voice. Lol. I miss my chickens. But I'm also getting into breeding ball pythons. Mine are only 6 months old though. Lol
Get a rooster again and look up the no crow rooster collar. As long as no complaining no issues. Its hilarious too. Be careful though some people just strapped them on and walked away and the rooster died.
Angela Conley it would work, you just have to maintain a heated room for them. There’s actually a LOT of people that want balls in Alaska but they can’t get them because it’s too cold to ship them that far north. If there was someone breeding in Alaska that they could go to to get them that person would make a killing.
@@alleykat6145 Ball Python wild types are super common. There's a lot of demand for them as first time pets for kids and whatnot, but not so much from hobbyists and breeders. So, lower price. There were just so many of them imported.
Believe it or not i do quite a bit of business on craigslist then everything else is sold through social media facebook, Instagram, youtube and auctions.
You shouldn’t breed ball pythons just for the $$$. You should do it because of the passion and love for the snakes. The money should be a secondary benefit. Most who do it just for the money skip corners in care. And it’s easy to spot too.
Chris Hardwick has a guy at a show that I watched leave his booth, go to another booth, buy up 12 animals, then raised the price and resold them at his booth. I know that happens a lot and feel that’s a bit dirty. The part where you talked about having normals sell for 50/60 and people buy them after the cheaper snakes are gone seems fine to me, but if u were to buy the cheap snakes and then resell them at your price I find that messed up. Not only do you not know the care that animal had, but say he has mites or parasites. Too many risks. I just keep mental notes of those breeders and avoid them. Again it’s very easy to spot who is in it for a “quick” buck.
I’m looking to getting into breeding, and am not sure about pricing according to morph quality. Do you think morph market is over priced, and how do you know if you are getting a good deal?
Good question! Some newbies will almost give their snakes away and price them really low. Once you are in it for awhile you realize they will sell at 'normal' prices, and depending on the time of year and availability you can get an even higher price. Doesn't really matter if you are breeding, you'll always make money in the end. I usually buy what looks the best to me LOL.
I’m a stay at home mom and I have a huge passion for animals. I’m trying to figure out how to do what I love and earn an income to help support my family. I love watching this channel. I’ve learned soo much!!

How do i start shipping ? And license to breed

what brand racks do you use?
They are all from ARS Caging.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures How often do you change out the water?
Man ball pythons are expensive where you live, where I live in Canada a normal ball python goes for like 30-50$ at most even pastels are only like 100$, seems to be a pet for warmer climates. You can make a killing breeding live stock here though.
Here snakes are better than any livestock, but I do like my cows LOL
Breeding is something that I have wanted to try for decades and could finally be happening. With that said based on my calculations of CoGs and a selling point of 300/ea 60 neonates a year that yields 1500 a month if you breed your own rats. Profit drops down to 1250 a month if you buy from rodent pro. If you go rodent pro route you need to sell all 60 neonates at a minimum of 450$ea. Large scale breeders must have many Revenue streams as this doesn’t make dollars and cents.
So your snake was worth $2000 but you sold it for a thousand which means the snake was actually only worth $1000.
No you just Gave someone a really good deal
Hey Chris if you still look at responses is there a way to contact you?
You can contact me in the comments section under my videos.
2000 profit or before reinvestment
I knew that was you lol
The duck guy lol
I can't believe that old video went viral LOL. I think it was one of my very first videos I ever shot
This is why i dont mind making single gene or simple double gene morphs even hets that are not that expensive even normals still get 50$ each and people tend to buy them more then the higher end morphs its kind of surprising how many simple genes are sold every year
We used to raise chickens. But where we live, they decided roosters were no longer allowed in city limits.
I would love to breed bps but where i live idk if it would work. North ala
Angela Conley it would work, you just have to maintain a heated room for them. There’s actually a LOT of people that want balls in Alaska but they can’t get them because it’s too cold to ship them that far north. If there was someone breeding in Alaska that they could go to to get them that person would make a killing.
Angela Conley I live in Alaska, we have quite a few breeders and shipping is fine during the summer. I breed and have had no issues
Ok, $2000 a month once you cover operating operating expenses? Like free and clear?
Can anyone sell on morph market or do you need licences?
Anyone can sell.
Whats around his wrist??
That's a remote control to turn my camera on and off.
Do one on retics
“With JUST 15 snakes” LOL

Bonk
What kind of $50 snakes do you have.
None right now, they sell fast!
This is one thing I don't understand about the snake business, their is a low supply and a high demand and snakes are only selling for fifty dollar's?
@@alleykat6145 Ball Python wild types are super common. There's a lot of demand for them as first time pets for kids and whatnot, but not so much from hobbyists and breeders. So, lower price. There were just so many of them imported.
I am trying to sell my snakes and I can’t find a buyer. Maybe it’s the location?
Maybe look for local pet stores that deal with reptiles, they usually will give you a fair price for snakes.
Believe it or not i do quite a bit of business on craigslist then everything else is sold through social media facebook, Instagram, youtube and auctions.
This guy is great. Luca
I wish my mom would let me get a ball python but she is scared of snakes.🙄😢
She just hasn't met the right snake yet LOL
Same here
You shouldn’t breed ball pythons just for the $$$. You should do it because of the passion and love for the snakes. The money should be a secondary benefit. Most who do it just for the money skip corners in care.
And it’s easy to spot too.
I agree!
That's amazing
Woohoo Woohoo!!!!
Time is money; work smarter, not longer. :)
They are almost like a pet rock. 😂
