I got this laptop for my wife. Less than $500. Ours is the Aspire 5, i-5, Iris Graphics and a 512 GB (Gen 3) NVME drive. I immediately added a 1 TB SATA SSD and upgraded RAM from 8 GB to 12 GB. (Then to 20 GB.) It does everything she wants to do, even in two different languages. Cheers!
The battery life is NOT remarkable. The most I have done on battery is watch a 2 hour movie. It is usually plugged in. @danielbradler6546

You can't go wrong with an Acer Aspire 5. I have an older model. Still works great after 4 years. I did replace the HDD with a SSD.

How is it working for you, presuming you bought it?
I have this laptop. It's pretty decent. Long battery life. The charger doesn't connect properly though and falls out with the slightest movement. More than 10x a day.
I have this laptop, no finger print scanner so maybe a different model but it’s the one with an mx250 gpu in it and it can even do some solid light gaming too, along with work and good battery too. Acer has definitely upped their game in recent years making high quality devices!

Its a brilliant budget laptop for programming. I got it in the ryzen 5 and 16gb to run a debugger. Works brilliantly for under $600 refurbished.

@@hammerfall6666 It's not amazing, but it is good enough for general use via google classroom and skype calls. There isn't any distortion but don't be expecting 1440p crystal clear quality. I don't have complaints.
How loud is the fan ?
@@Rick2226_ Honestly when you're doing basic use (ie word, excel) and general internet use you won't hear it. If you have say 10 tabs open, reddit youtube netflix etc, you will hear the fan going, but it's not loud it's still rather quiet and if you're worried about annoying work colleagues/classmates they will not notice it. I have zero reservations about my purchase.
Does its temperature rise while working on it? And its battery does it work for a long time? And in terms of color and screen resolution, is it good? Because when I searched for a review, I found someone criticizing the screen colors say isn’t good

I've had this laptop for a while and I'm enjoying the fact that I can play bo2 and mw3 without hackers(plutonium) which is a bonus for me. The ps2 emulator(pcsx2) runs very well. However for about 60 bucks you can order a 16gb ram stick that will help you play the big boy games at a much faster speed. And make sure you buy a cooling pad (20-35 bucks)so your laptop doesn't overheat

Update- I've had this laptops for a few months and it's not too bad. I however recently upgraded to a 4k mini pc with a monitor and gaming keyboard on Amazon for around the same price.
i have an acer aspire 3 buy it in 2017 and stil works! the batery didnt die yet! 6 years Later I decide to buy only Acer after the experience i have

I still have my acer inspire after 6 years and it works very well, I'm upgrading to a new Acer Swift!
The back panel is flimsy and hence may break if more than 60% force is applied to it.
The battery is above average, and can last 8 hours on windows if lots of office apps are running on it.
I installed linux and it seems great the battery last way longer , ssd has made this laptop faster. overall i love it .
Sooooo mine is having a black screen glitch and I think it’s because I leave it on my bed and I kick in my sleep I hope I didn’t break it!

You're review of the ACER ASPIRE 5 was way too picky for 90% of us for whom this $500-range i5 laptop is a fantastic choice ... and the full-size backlit keyboard is excellent in my opinion. PS - It wasn't meant for gamers.

As someone who already has a main computer at home I built, I wanted something not as 'flashy' and a good compromise between price and specifications for my university laptop.
I found this in the acer aspire 5, I've just gotten it, downgraded it to windows 10 (11 is unsufferable imo) and have no complaints, I got it brand new for 599£, the model is an i7 11th gen with standard 8GBs of Ram and a 1TB SSD.
This will handle my uni load fine, in fact an i5 would've handled my uni load fine but for the cheap price I couldn't not go for the i7, and the battery life is suitable too.
I was surprised by the build quality, I thought there would be a huge compromise to meet the low price, but nope I find it's decent. I was also surprised at the microphone quality, I'll most likely never use it and do all my at home lessons, and discord calls on my PC at home not on my uni laptop, but it's still appreciated and good for people who don't have a work-station at home.
I recommend this not just for study and work but also for general use. It won't handle mid end gaming, and will always be suited to lower end gaming. I am very surprised at the value for money acer has managed.

I’ve had this laptop maybe a year now and I have no complaints, I use it for general use but sometimes I like to game 7days to die, Pretty awesome laptop I love the touch screen

For me It’s great without a charge I get plenty of hours without needing to charge

Had my aspire M for 10 years now. Was working great until it got dropped out my car. Mailing it in for repairs. To this day Acer never made one better than the M model.
I can vouch too; the M series is a tough machine. I got mine in the first year of my vet school. Used it for 8 years straight until it started having issues with sounds and a significant lag. Can't complain; it's still not dead though.

I have this laptop and I like it a lot. It can handle GameCube emulation well and handle playstation 2 emulation not as well as GameCube. I recommend this laptop to anyone who is trying to find a decent gaming laptop for a inexpensive price. Plus it has a 256 gb storage space In it. Mine even came with windows 11 but no fingerprint scanner.

I'm a graphic designer, and my two laptops draw 180W each. I'm currently prepping for hurricane season here in New Orleans (ie power-outage season) and I have a 720Wh power bank, which means that one of my laptops would run the whole thing out in just four hours (and that's assuming 100% efficiency, which isn't a thing), and I have several other things to keep charged. Because of that, I need a low-power backup machine that can run Illustrator and Photoshop without melting down, and the fact that this only draws 45W makes this very attractive; that's potentially 16 hours, not to mention the battery life! Would you happen to know how it runs Adobe apps? I work in publishing so it's all print graphics, no video editing or motion graphics or anything fancy like that. I'm around 90% Illustrator, 10% Photoshop these days. Thanks!

looking at some laptops to get during the amazon prime day sales or whatever it’s called and this seems like a pretty nice laptop, i’m going into college and im gonna need a nice laptop that i’ll use 24/7 and i can also play games that aren’t demanding such as roblox games for example, as i already have a gaming pc for gaming needs. good pc for doing work on and good review btw

For someone who have used this laptop lot of things you said are over exaggerated you're definitely not considering other laptop at the same or lower price range. also 200gb is not big nor 500gb are, the screen are actually bad (go intel graphic adjust it there)

Best bang for the buck laptop.. I like the Ryzen option better upgraded with 16 GB RAM and added 2.5 500 SSD... That's the sweet spot.

Drawbacks hits me hard.. Working on graphics with aspire 5 2022 is so frustrating. Colors of my graphics is so different when printed or shared and viewed to other devices. My expectation on my productivity went crashing.

There are websites on which you enter your CPU, GPU and RAM and they will show you their database on fps experience in thousands of games to individually check

I personally wouldn't get another one because I've only had mine for eight months and the hinges have already snapped. And it's designed for everyday use.
I used to have an older version of this. Would be absolutely amazing should DDR5 and newer igpus come in like RDNA 2 and succeeding Intel XE.

Hi, im really late to this but would you recommend this and I would add another 8gb of ram or should I get the Acer Swift 3 Ryzen 7 5700U but that only comes with 8gb soldered ram. What would you say I should get if they are both in the budget?
You can find Acer Aspire 5 with a Ryzen 5700U also (or even a Ryzen 5500U, it's still fine for everyday tasks). With the Swift 3, you have a smaller and lighter laptop with metal alloy case, but with the trade-off of no upgradeability (in Aspire 5, you can add more RAM and insert an additional SATA SSD/HDD drive) and more limitations due to its size.
Because of the size, the Swift 3 gets hotter and for the same reason, the processor power (max TDP) is limited by the manufacturer below the maximum level (so as not to overheat), so in fact the Ryzen 5700U will not work at full power at long run, as in large laptops with better cooling (why to pay more than for 5500U?). The Aspire 5 also has a larger battery, which means it should last longer on battery power. Also you'll have more USB ports on Aspire 5 (4 vs 3).

What would be the next step up from this laptop?
I bought an Acer 5 back in February 2023 biggest mistake I have ever done. What I found is the volume which is so low I have to plug it into an amplifier to hear the sound in movies or music videos. The backlight on the keyboard is useful as I struggle to see the keys to type so the backlight is constantly on. I wouldn't recommend this model AMD Ryzen 5 5625U.

For the price it is an absolutely brilliant laptop.
it's a shame that when bought the intel is already set as dual channel RAM,but AMD one is set as single channel, but it's a quick upgrade to whip the back open and put another matching RAM stick in(after running cpuz).Easy 50% gain on performance!!!!.once done,the AMD setup absolutely creams the i5.way better all rounder for general use/productivity,and leanes intel GPU in the dust for light gaming

in response to the other poster who said they want this or similar as a DJ rig, that's basically what you'll need. 1TB is probably a minimum for tune storage,and extra RAM is definitely useful.

No its a ripoff I have a acer swift and when i play gta my cpu goes to 100 degrees, this is because they do not know how to build a pc/laptop They made everything amazing BUT They made intergrated graphics, So when u try to play GTA/Realistic games Everything is being pushed on the CPU and it overheats and at some point it will start a fire/break the laptop The battery only lasts 1 hour while playing games like apex/rust/gta

for some reason my fps sometimes drops to 10-30 but i have a LAN cable a monitor, keyboard,and a mouseplugged into the same laptop is it normal that its not playable on overwatch 2 bc of the lag?i downloaded it but the graphics and the fps was rlly bad
