Immobilizer 418s seem to be absolutely shit at everything but keeping things in place and you see how Luke dealt with that in the Thrawn Trilogy. I wouldn’t even bother bringing in the Immobilizers, even though they were useful at the battle of Orinda, they were still “retired” from the battle.

Interdictor Star Destroyers
@@Eatmydbzballs The issue with Interdictor Star Destroyer is that it has a much bigger cost in resources and manpower than the Immobilizer. If you are trying to do a large blockade, having several Immobilizers that you can spread around is much better than hoping that a single Interdictor SD is in the right place. The problem with the Immobilizer is that it needs to be protected, especially from bombers and fighters, the thing that the Empire is traditionally bad at doing. A mix of both would likely be the best option. That way you can be certain that you stop the enemy from jumping out immediately and if the Interdictor SD (Star Destroyers are surprisingly fast ships) can quickly react and get to the main enemy force, they can't just shoot up one cruiser and then escape, because the SD is a much tougher opponent. The real issue is that either you need ships fast enough to get to the one point the enemy is trying to break through, or you have to bring in such a massive fleet that the blockade simply has no "weak point."

It's difficult to make space battles interesting because there is no "terrain" to play with, and I always look to see if the director has tried to do something interesting (like the opening to Episode 3, love that space battle sequence)
I love when two capital ships go side by side and do full broadsides against each other. Its beautiful, its explosive, and I would have the head of any captain that pulled such an idiotic maneuver.
Tbh I think that’s due to a lack of understanding of how space works, the Last Jedi is a great example of this, all the ships are basically fighting as you would in atmosphere. I agree with you but I think they could get more creative terrain, say what you will about the prequels but I love the chase between Obi wan and Jango. The way Jango tries to utilize the asteroid field to his advantage is great

1: How does the FTL work and what are its limitations
2: Does sub light run on orbital or ocean ship physics

A little known but rather important “blockade” was the blockade of Chandrila, Mon Mothma’s homeword that was set after the Battle of Endor. Imperial High Command, and several Imperial Advisors reasoned that devoting a powerful task force above Chandrila would be a deterrent on for the Rebllion daring to take the offensive on Coruscant, knowing The Empire could and would Base Delta Zero the symbolic planet. Fun note: Chandrila was a creation of West End Games and predates Coruscant being named (RPG), though it makes its first novel mention in The Truce at Bakura which comes after the Thrawn Trilogy.

That's good and all but....."What about the Droid attack and the Wookies?"
Can you do what your ideal blockade would look like with ships and facilities and all that???

Step three: *a-wing*
I take issue with the label "Hyperspace impossible" outside of the lanes. It seems to me it's more like leaving the ski trails on a mountain. You will still get to the bottom (some day, maybe, eventually) but the way is not marked and cleared of "Bono trees".
Additionally, planets, even in Star Wars, orbit stars. (with only a few scant exceptions) Moons orbit larger planets that themselves orbit stars. That means the "Egress Point" is a moving target. This is why ships need computers or astromechs to "plot a jump".

Or are we to accept that there is some "magic" of space in Star Wars that makes non-route travel impossible? Does then the planet or moon "drag" its egress point(s) around the star with it? If so, does the route 'flex' around planets and the local star(s) that might get in the way? Does the route guide the ship like rails guide a train, or does the ship travel to the planet like a dog intercepting a frisbee?
Incidentally, you can also park an ambush force on the other side of an egress point but flanking along its side to avoid collision. That way, you can catch an incoming enemy from behind the moment they exit-jump out of hyperspace.
Fleet battle between
Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin
Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron.

It really depends on the scale if it is an entire campaign then I believe that Thrawn would win based on his feats shown in the novel he is very effective at coordinating a war but correct me if I am wrong, Ender doesn't need plan the war against the buggers he is merely brought in to win key battles. If they were to fight in a fair one on one battle to the death the match up would be fair. (I still favor Thrawn tho.)
@@Quipek Ender commanded every battle but did not plan over arching strategy in the sense that he didn’t decide where/when to fight. However I’m imagining this as a one off fight where both admirals have the exact same forces and they take each other on.
@@Quipek no, but from sequels to Ender's Game he has shown to be an effective coordinator, but not quite at the level of Grand Admiral Thrawn

I'd like to see a video on how to successfully invade a planet. Asking for a friend....
Like all classic beach invasions, you start with data gathering and bombardment. Reduce your target's ability to stop your landings, then when you do make the landings, use espionage, feints and misdirection to dilute their response. Continue artillery/bombing ahead of your advance.
And don't pull a Gallipoli. Support your landings with constant resupply and reinforcements. When stalled, seek flank weaknesses with feints or real attacks.

@@michaelandreipalon359 Yah the problem is sending in advance forces like paratroopers with out proper intel gathering ahead and re checking and gathering information before hand is just asking for trouble.
But have a rigid pre planned by the books operation isn't good either it leaves little room to adapt when blunders happen or un expected changes happen.
It like one moment an enemy area that seemed week to exploit. suddenly is a heavily fortified slugfest that ends completely eradicating your advancing forces bogging down the offensive forcing a retreat or very costly victory that may have been preventable. Because you failed to second recon sweep of the area that would could have told you days or weeks in advance forcing you to modify or change your battle plan because maybe in doing so it left another flank now vulnerable to expose.
But I get there are variables and surprises you can't prepare for as a commander. But at least having some roughly sketched out plan that is flexible and can me adapted on the fly when needed makes your forces more prepared and ready for what the enemy could through at them and how deal with it accordingly improving chances of success and fewer casualties. Nothing is perfect I am not trying to be military genius.
But its kind of like the kid who studied for the test in school vs who didn't you don't what the answers are going to be if you studied hard and prepared your self for any question that would be asked or math equation to be solved then you can feel confident in what awaits you even if its ends being way easier than expected because you know the answers or have pretty good idea of the correct answers. Wheres the guy that didn't studied is having a well crap moment.
And Monty was having that when found out entire German Panzer division was going through repairs and refitting. Since the German High command thought the Netherlands was the perfect place for battle exhausted tank crews to rest and replenish their ranks with recruits and give the panzers much needed repairs and refit upgrades since it was far from the front lines of Western Front. Only to find out British paratroopers raining down on them from the sky and quickly mount a counter attack. While British paratroopers are going there's a whole bloody dam Jerry Panzer division here how the hell did high command not see this coming or left out that detail . Does that mean we are rogered sir. Indeed and royally so.

Another useful item - that you showed briefly, is *ion weaponry.*
Both for breaking a blockade and creating one.
For breaking a blockade Hoth is the best example, a ion cannon disabled a ISD long enough for a bunch of transports to get past.
But they are also useful for creating a blockade. Any approaching ship can be zapped and captured on a shoot first, board later policy.
And for capturing intact faculties they are the best option if you can't sneak in saboteurs - just drop a load of ion bombs from _the high ground_ and then capture all the military faculties.

Here's a question how would then say the Empire try to blockade a planet like Earth. A planet that's mostly self-sustaining. I understand that it would be a larger struggle to suffocate a massive planet. But how would an Empire or faction use a blockade pacifically to isolate a planet.
We all know the empire does really care about morals so if the planet it self-sustaining and difficult to take they would probably just glass the planet and go along their way

The order should be the following
Anti-Starfighter ships
Then Corvettes
Light Cruisers
Capital Ships

I know it's popular to just shit on them, but Hyperspace rules like this were ignored in all 6 previous films before Disney too. Even in the Phantom Menace, the Queen's ship comes BACK to Naboo and just jumps in where there is no blockade ships at all.

The Trade Federation was still in full Blockde Mode of the planet, when the Queen's ship just waltzed back to Naboo, completely unhindered.
None of the 9 movies talk about hyperspace rules like indicated in this video.
@@CujoHyer Evidence in Episode I says that the Trade Federation believed they didn't need to blockade Naboo due to their control. Gunray reports almost complete control while Padme is on ... Tatooine I believe, and the fleet is gone save for the droid control ship which is being used to control the forces occupying the planet. There isn't any talk about hyperspace lanes, no, but going beyond the movies there is talk about gravity wells preventing hyperspace from working or pulling ships out of hyperspace, that's how the Interdictors work after all.
You should do more battle breakdowns/what you would have done differently
Honestly, I prefer it when a TH-camr has the sponsorship in the video rather than taking TH-cam’s. TH-cam doesn’t get that money, the creator gets a bigger cut, and I can skip forward if I don’t want to see it. Everyone who should benefit does and the thing we all hate loses.

True but it can pretty much only be done by really good pilots with small ships. Blockades serve to stop trade. Highly dought a 1Km long freighter could pull an atmosphere landing.
@@papapalps2415 As we saw in the movie, they were a few feet from slamming in to the planet. Any normal freighter pilot would have ended up as a particle cloud. Especially considering how slow the larger ships are.
@@papapalps2415 In Star Wars many ships can't handle entering atmospheres. The bigger the ship the worse. It would simply be imposible for ships that are cargo ships or any ship larger than a corvette to actually pull it off without loosing half the ship.

@@papapalps2415 makes since especially since that as eckharts ladder said, when can leave hyperspace at a specific point that the enemy probably knows about and is guarding with fleets, mines, shields and ect. I just think it would be cool although as you said not very practical in most situations

@@papapalps2415 I did not mean just due to its success in Rebels, it was also a very successful ship in TCW and in EU. I personally think that it was a good balance of powerful shielding and armor, fast speeds, and heavy weaponry that made it a highly effective blockader and blockade runner. As you will find in my long lasting discussion in the comments of this video ( th-cam.com/video/FGul4_441kc/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgxNyx1UdjfcbjCZNRx4AaABAg.9In8tfydk1-9IxmnIbUrnW ), I make many points about the ability of this light cruiser. You may still disagree, and that is fine, I would just like to attempt to change your line of thinking on this matter.
@@papapalps2415 I will not continue my argument other than to say that it is truly a special ship with impressive capabilities. Also, Disney-canon does not favor the Arquitens. It was very underrepresented during the television series', and it is not seen at all during the movies (to my knowledge). I just feel that it was an underrated ship with quite impressive capabilities and underrepresentation.

You should do a video on why many ship landings in Star Wars seem to be so far away from their intended locations, such as the AT-AT attack on Hoth, Krennic landing outside Galen Erso's home, and Boba landing so far away from the Jedi Temple. I guess its a common strategy for those having a lack of intelligence on the potential threats a specific area.

In EaW I figured out that this fleet composition works the best: heavy carrier in the back (for example Lucrehulks), 1 capital ship with 2 long range fire cruisers to itvs side, 6 frigates with 3 on the left and 3 on the side, and a bunch of of anti fighter ships in between the ships. Nothing gets through this blockade as long as you hold position.
Got me thinking about a bunch of the ways the sequals broke how hyper space works in the star wars universe and all the implication /changes that would make. I mean just for instance in relation to this video blockading basicly just wouldnt work with how they showed hyperspace in the sequals.
So how big is the entrance to a hyperspace lane anyway? Because if you are willing to make a 100km wide spherical station, then depending on the size of the entrance, you could literally just block the entire thing with a giant 50 meter thick dish covered with shields and lasers and stuff.
In Star Wars physics, you put interdictor ships with support fleets on the hyperspace lanes, and put your fleet around an equatorial orbit. And that's typically sufficient as only main characters have the ability to approach from polar routes to the planet surface

In real-world physics, you have chaotic swarms of steerable kinetic weapons in a many-layered cloud around the planet and accept the navigational hazards.
Or, barring unlimited money time and material, you can't effectively blockade a planet from escape or attack/reinforcement.
If executing an offensive blockade of a planet, you should start with high-altitude nuclear blasts to blanket all inhabited areas with EMP, then use kinetic strikes to gradually erase weapons, launch capabilities, communications, command and industrial capacity. Wiping out the population is a policy decision and beyond this example.
If executing a defensive blockade against incoming, you hit what you can, and take massive losses in space and on the ground.

There was but one Trade Federation control ship. The rest were just ordinary Lucrehulks without any control gear. The Empire didn't know that they were looking for the Millenium Falcon until the last minute, so they wouldn't have known to lock it down.
I had always wondered why worlds like Kashyyk (probably spelled it wrong) were so important to maintaining control over hyperspace lanes. This helped me to finally understand.

In real world history during the mid 18th century, the Royal Navy in the days of the British Empire in the Seven Years War, mastered modern naval blockades. Specifically, Admiral Edward Hawke. Long before Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson mounted an even more powerful blockade of France during the Napoleonic Wars, Admiral Edward Hawke had pioneered the process of on station, "Revictualling-At-Sea", whereby food and drink etc were shipped to the blockade fleets.
This allowed Royal Navy fleets to remain on active blockade indefinitely as the men were fed with fresher food. Naturally it helped that England was not terribly far away - though the process of *blockading an entire country* was still an impressive feat that at the time, arguably only the Royal Navy would have been able to logistically organise or simply have the _brass balls_ to even dare.
Before this, the maximum duration of naval blockades, even for the then increasingly dominant Royal Navy, was simply a matter of how long the supplies would endure. Admiral Edward Hawke changed this by meticulously planning revictualling (pronounced, 'REE-VIT-AL-ING, in spite of appearances) squadrons to run large quantities of food and water/rum rations to his anchored and/or patrolling fleets.
While being expensive to do this, it was hugely effective. Though testing for the hardy crews constantly at sea for many months, they could be relieved by replacement ships (or simply sent elsewhere around the world on different missions and duties) Morale was a concern but in general the British had the advantage at sea and the crews knew it, capturing prize ships whenever they could.
The strategy had serious implications for the French fighting the British globally from Quebec to Pondicherry. The more mainland Europe concerned King Louis XV was frankly indifferent to the situation in North America, as Britain slowly but surely gained the upper-hand.
The constant British blockade of Royalist France, strained and throttled the French ability to reliably reinforce their colonies, hastening French defeat. Britain naturally had no such concern, transporting troops with near impunity. For the French in North America, this dire situation was compounded when the British captured their greatest port in North America, Louisburg. After that, it was only a matter of time. Britain really did "rule the waves", as it did for two centuries.
Admiral Edward Hawke had revolutionised naval blockade in the Seven Years War, laying the groundwork for Nelson (in this time, just a young boy soon to run away to the navy) to famously take the Royal Navy even further beyond what had been thought possible. Hawke prowled the French coast eager to fight, getting bored of blockade.
When the French did come out at last, Hawke won the greatest naval battle of the war, Quiberon Bay 1759. Impressively navigating a rough weather, hazardous, hidden rock strewn bay with naval maps that weren't entirely accurate, Hawke _still_ beat the French in their own backyard. Like the Royal Navy in Nelson's time, the gunners of Hawke's fleet could practice offshore, while the French were trapped in harbour unable to do gunnery practice for obvious reasons. This demoralised them as the British laughed no doubt.
Another drawback of extremely lengthy naval blockade, were environmental stresses in the marine conditions. The sea is friend to none. Hull deterioration was always and still is a constant problem. The seawater corrodes and rusts, while kinetic force from wave action can do all kinds of damage. Wooden hulled warships and merchant ships, had to deal with more than typical wood rot over the years; hull boring, Bivalve Molluscs such as the _Teredo navalis_ type species, using acid and mouthparts to bore into wooden hulls. They were a big problem and still can be, in warm, tropical waters.
This is commonly known as Shipworm, and was a real nuisance which could leave ship hulls riddled with tunnel like holes, which they lived in. Any damage or parasitism on the hull, reduced the streamlining and speed of the ship as a result. More problematic were barnacles and snagging seaweed tendrils. The wooden hulls were constantly under attack (think, Mynocks lol) The encrustation of barnacles and tangles of trailing seaweed sticking to the hull, reduced ship streamlining and speed even more seriously. Sea handling quality was also reduced. It was all just bad news.
During the 18th century, the British pioneered a solution - Copper sheathing the hulls with beautiful Copper/Copper Alloys. This was very expensive though greatly improved ship streamlining, speed and handling. _Teredo_ could not bore into it and barnacles couldn't so easily latch on - as it happens, the Copper in that quantity naturally poisons anything trying to live on it as it oxidises.
On reaction with seawater, the copper/copper alloy created a soluble film mainly of Copper Oxychloride, which was poisonous for unwanted guests. It also gradually washed away. Though proposed for the Royal Navy as far back as 1708, by Charles Perry, the Navy Board rejected the idea at the time, on the grounds of the heavy cost and concerns over maintenance. It is still impressive that the idea was even suggested so long ago.
However, it was not until the 1750's when the Royal Navy properly began putting the idea through scientific tests. Ongoing experiments throughout the 1750's and 1760's, helped solve problems and find improvements on how to make it work. It began with partial sections of hull and the keels of test ships and false hulls. The first Royal Navy ship (and thus first ship ever) to be _fully_ copper-sheathed/copper-bottomed, was HMS _Alarm_ in 1761.
HMS _Dolphin_ followed in 1764 and further lessons were learnt about bolting issues (iron bolts reacted with the copper simply corroded, and it took a while to find that Copper-Nickel alloy bolts did the trick, by 1786)
During the American War of Independence, the Royal Navy began to at last set about fully copper-sheathing the entire fleet from 1778/1779 onward. As the Royal Navy was very large (several hundreds ships/more like ~700-800 ships of all shapes and sizes), this was a strenuous and extremely expensive endeavour for the time.
The average warship required around 300 copper plates at roughly 15 tonnes in total weight. Some required fewer; others, considerably more. By 1781, the Royal Navy had copper-sheathed 82 ships of the line, 14 of the 50 gunners, 115 frigates and 182 unrated vessels, and they had many more to do even then. Britain supplied all it's own Copper from British mines e.g . Parys Mountain in Anglesey, Wales (I've even visited this place) At the time, only Britain could produce that much Copper and Copper alloy.
The then Navy Board Controller, Charles Middleton, under immense pressure to deliver 100 new ships for the British in North America, even as France openly declared war on Britain with Spain (seeking revenge for the Seven Years War), directly petitioned King George III for support in acquiring funding for the as yet not fully tested and believed in copper-sheathing technology.
Middleton believed in it strongly; more importantly understanding the implications; the speed and manoeuvrability benefits outweighed the financial costs. Jamaican sugar trade offset the costs. Middleton took an exquisite model of the Third-rate Ship of the Line HMS _Bellona_ to his meeting with the King, complete with real copper plating in miniature.
It could take 5 years and well over 2,000 trees to build the average warship (indeed for First Rates like HMS _Victory_ of 104 guns, it was more like 6,000 trees; 5,000 of which being English Oak) Middleton knew naval expansion alone would take too long, and so refitting the existing fleet would be smarter. Middleton understood that copper-sheathing allowed ships to remain at sea for longer without needing extensive hull cleaning or serious repairs (this also helped a lot with blockades)
Besides agreeing with Middleton's arguments justifying the idea, King George III himself outright loved the model. Fully backing the proposal, it nonetheless came too late to avert the outcome of the war. It has been argued that had the entire Royal Navy already been copper-sheathed at or before the start of the war, then the setback for the Royal Navy in the Chesapeake Bay would not have necessarily occurred.
Perhaps it is going too far to say the war may have ended differently, for this reason, but it does make one wonder. Admiral Rodney's fully copper-sheathed fleet crushed the French as they greedily moved from Yorktown to the Caribbean, overreaching in their eagerness to take from Britain. But Admiral Rodney defeated the Comte de Grasse off Dominica, in his technologically superior ships, the fastest the French Admiral had ever seen to his dismay (he was captured)
Had Admiral Rodney been at Yorktown, things would certainly have been very different; his duty was to defend the British Caribbean, however. This was the Battle of the Saintes 1782 - a complete vindication of copper-sheathing and a reminder that Britain still ruled the waves regardless of France's little stunt at Yorktown the previous year, and the general outcome of the war.

Here's the real perfect blockade: put your fleet of Trade Federation warships in orbit of a planet to prevent escape. Once someone actually escapes, move all but one of your ships away so that it's actually as easy as possible for the escapees to return and fight back.
