“We tested this and it didn’t suck” would be a great way to get my interest in an advertised product. Especially for something like a PSU where boring and solid is highly desirable
You all over there are playing the long game, and its friggin smart as hell! I personally appreciate the honesty your channel offers, literally every single part of my build is researched based on ads and reviews from products you've tested (1 exception, super flower leadex titanium 1000w psu (im well aware its overkill for what I have but its how I do life)). Love your content and the entire team! As stated, companies will recognize that this channel is gold to them as an advertising platform because of how you all do things. Thanks GN team!
5:22 - was literally just about to comment this. Seeing this analysis of your product vetting process for ads makes me a heck of a lot more likely to take an ad as a recommendation. Still not as good as a favourable review video from you guys since that has detail, but knowing it's gone through a similar level of quality control and passed your test means it's actually a viable product and not just a product with a marketing department that wants to shill it.
The biggest takeaway from this video is what you guys consider important when looking at PSUs. So if you're okay with a new PSU that was a bit ahead of the curve pre-2020 and now is a bit behind, and you're not trying to run a super crazy high power draw overclocked system on an unstable grid, this will do the job at a good price.
If Gigabyte had a sense of humour they could advertise a new power supply with "Now with 99% less explosions!" as long as they actually make sure they don't systematically explode :D
You and your team's transparency and morals is why I support GN through patreon and buying merch. In this age of misinformation, I'm happy to have a source of info I can trust. Thank you all, and keep up the great work!
ABSOLUTELY! I was basically forced/shamed into supporting them on Patreon after the exploding powersupply fiasco then the burning riser fiasco then the POSITIVE Fractal Torrent review+followup. Final straw was Newegg. Not supporting them after that seemed petty and disingenuous. I'M DOING MY PART! (Would You Like to Know More?)
Patrick is almost good enough to start another Gamers Nexus "branch", his explanations & overall delivery & presence demonstrate he is certainly capable... I'm sure these guys don't have the bandwidth, but at some point in the future, I'd like to see gamers nexus with a larger footprint of several channels maybe with varying degrees of depth or focus. I think the demand is such that they would be well received.
This is exactly why i actually pay attention to the products you guys advertise. I make sure i never listen to an ad from any other sources because I don't trust that they are any good
I just wanted to say I like the behind the scenes stuff and really appreciate the basic validation of advertised products, I wish this was an industry standard.
Something to add to Stones breakdown about this unit vs the 2020 standards....there are probably a handfull of PSU's on the market that meet the 2020 standards - 95% of what is on the market are still pre 2020 designs - most PSU's tend to stay on the market for years and years so when a standard like this changes, it takes quite a while for the industry to shift. Considering waht happened in the world just as that standard was released, it will probably be even longer this time around. This particular unit is very likely a 2019 design and uses LLC topography - this is good at this price point, though hopefully LLC is starting to become more standardised and most manufacturers will have to newer designs like this to meet the 2020 standards. It is made by CWT who are a decent OEM ( used by a lot of major brands for producing decent quality units). If you looked at this unit in a pre 2020 context, it is very good for the price.
This kind of thing is exactly why whether I'm building in a personal or professional capacity, I check to see what GN has said about products before I use or recommend them. You guys and HUB are the gold standard for consumer protection oriented reviews in the computer space. Thank you and keep up the excellent work.
Definitely would be interested in more videos about why certain products "make the cut" for adverts even if they're not relevant enough for full review
5:19 can confirm this is 100% true. If I see GN advertise a product, I know they at least think it's good enough to look at and consider when making a purchase.
Great behind the scenes. The second channel might be a great place where you put reviews for products like this. Inknow way more time goes into a 10-15 minute video, but a quick down and dirty about the pros and cons. My next build will probably be an ITX. I don't play games anymore but spend 8-10 hours in front of one that require decent specs. I bascially watch all you content because I find it interesting in a cerebral and professional sense, even if it isn't me playing games.
This video is exactly why i trust what you guys put out. Having an Objective and transparent review channel carries enormous weight and credibility to the GN name.
I would love to see advertisers be given a checkbox of ( are we allowed to go off script and say specifically what we feel your product excels at and what it falls behind in. Supposing we were to choose to partner with you?). As a consumer, if I were not already familiar with your channel I would think that having a disclosure such as "we tested this in these circumstances and were impressed by X and less impressed by y, overall finding this to be a competitive product" would give so much credit to your team and also to the product that it could easily drive sales over a normal advert. As an example this power supply's behind the scenes coverage alone is such a rarely covered topic I think hearing that you guys tested voltage peak to peak ripple and found it to be great while overvoltage was lacking would easily allow persuade me to buying this product over another just because I am not likely to go out of my way to watch 100's of reviews of power supplies when building a pc, but knowing that this one is stabile but lacking some current protections, I hopefully will not need, at least gives me a known quantity over any other power supply.
The most "open" organization I have seen in a long time. Thanks for your honestly. It saves me a lot of time, if it is GN approved, then is most likely a green light.
Yesterday I saw the ad for the montech psu and I started imagining the internal testing that must have been involved. Then I woke up to see this, great job GN!
Holy crap, knowing that you rejected 20k to not advertize a bad product really makes me trust you way more than I trust any other youtube out there. you're awesome!
The problem is the YT algorithm, running reviews for more mundane items is a liability. They would need to post them on an alt channel at the very least.
Thanks for this. I remember asking a few months back if the ads you guys run are for things you would actually recommend or not (as well as whether the statements you say in the ads are all things you actually agree with) and never received an answer, but this is a pretty exhaustive answer.
Thank you for all of your teams for putting a lot of effort to prevent advertising "Bad products". Many years ago my common HDD failure turned out caused by BAD PSU. (I was cheap.) I scrapped more than 10 HDDs to find that out.
After seeing the ad for this on one of your latest videos it's nice to see that you actually do test something before advertising it so your audience doesn't get the gigabyte end of the stick.
Steve, what you said at around 5:30, that the Audience is more likely to value what you advertise is completely true. I see a lot of cool stuff at LTT and such, but i dont fully trust their opinion alone. I saw the Bequiet Case a few times on your Channel and trusted you with it for my GF PC. Best buy i ever made. Its such a nice and well thought out case. I really like it. Thank you for that. Thank you for having quality standards and ESPECIALLY, for having moral standards in this world. Not only you, Steve, but the whole Team at GN are absolute the Legends we need in this world. I really appreciate the work. And if I werent constantly broke, i would support through Patreon or similar Stuff, but for now nice words have todo. I hope thats at least ok, lol. Thanks GN :)
Steve and GN: a class act through and through. No doubt anything recommended bu this channel will be at the top of my list. This video only cemented myt minf that GN is at the very top for tech news, reviews, testing and recommendations.
Montech, up and coming… hope they keep their products in the reasonable price range. Cool behind the scenes, always curious how a legit channel decides who to advertise. More behind the scenes is great! Maybe supply runs, or helping friends with PCs, videos that just didn’t work out, using test equipment… all cool stuff!
I've been wondering about this. Good to know. Thanks for making this and thank you for putting in the work to actually test products before are you agree to advertise them. I do trust your advertisements in a way that I don't most.
Another reason why i trust you guys. I like plenty of other tech channels, but if there's just pure data driven info i need, i know gn is the place, because a true honest review comes above anything else which is huge. Keep up the great work guys.
You're right on the button when you say that I'll pay attention to your ads because I trust you. I have several items in my current system that you said were good. It's not only because you say so -- you back it up with a bazillion charts. I skip Linus' videos as soon as he makes the dumb face before he says something stupid about a sponsor.
I kind of figured you're doing something like this based on the kind of stuff you've been advertising but it's great to have the confirmation. Compared to other channels I'm much more likely to trust that whatever you're advertising is, at the very least, not trash
You guys are such a breath of fresh air. If you recommend something, I know it's good. It's been clear even before this video that you hold yourselves (and by extension, others) to a higher standard. In a world where it often feels like people don't give a shit, you give a shit, and I don't just mean about tech. Keep giving a shit, Steve. I keep meaning to check out your Patreon because I want to support you guys even though there's nothing I need from the store at the moment. I'm going to do that today.
this advertisement approach is good for everyone. Its good for GN because it gives you credibility. Its good for us consumers cause it helps us make informed decisions and filter out junk products and its good for the businesses because it helps them get a much stronger advertising campaign and also a clear vision on what sells and what doesn't. Also they can compete on actual quality instead of who has the flashiest advertising budget.
Thank you for your insights here and on the main channel! I'm so grateful for all the effort you guys put in your work (not to mention people get to see the results for free). I can't say it often enough but I really appreciate pretty much everything you guys have done since I'm around (Remember that house?). I just recently started to comment more eventhough it's still not much. Anyway, love your work, keep it up but also make sure you don't get overwhelmed, overworked or screwed over. Managing a business can be quite challenging sometimes especially when you don't hop on every opportunity to grab cash, unlike others that also seem to put less efforts into their work aswell. Also I think your guys humor just hits exactly the right audience and isn't overly done or too dry and non existent. Thank you guys!

I was thinking about this today when watching your ad spot on some ram and also for a crucial hard drive. I pondered the very things answered in this video. Thank you for all you do! I also love this type of content!
I'd just like to say thank you GN, you guys are a invaluable part of my process for researching a product, and I'm sure this applies to many people not just myself.
Glad you actually vet the products you can potentially run ads for. I have seen so many content creators complain about terrible mobile games then run an ad for raid shadow legends on their next video/stream. It shows that you have a backbone and that is not an easy decision to make in this economy.
Niiice. Just started video. Seems like its going to be good information. EDIT: Finished it, was really really interesting, and ofc more Stone is just a bonus.
I don't connect on just any video as I'll only choose those that I feel fair and honest. You have become my most trusted source for all things tech. I truly wish Steve and the entire GN team more and continued success. Much love! 🤟❤️
That's awesome. Knowing Steve and his background in running an review website I did expect some research before GN would run an ad on an product but I didn't expact this much of effort to be honest. My impression of the reviewing field is that there was historically not much or none research concerning the quality of an advertised product. If I think back to print media or early websites 20ish years ago they run basiclly every ad back than no matter what. This got better over time and reviewers began to care. In recent years with the rise of reviews on social media it tend to get worse again. Seeing GN putting much effort in to run an ad give me hope. BTW: Patrick hit the nail on the head. Clearesult says the PSU was cretified 80 Plus Gold on 20th of December 2019. So there was no way Montech could hit that newer 2020 Intel spec. It is what is it but if you only need 2% power of 850W please buy a smaller wattage and maybe newer PSU.
Realize your word is currency. If the value of your word drops then so does the value of your word as a currency. Don't devalue my guy!!!!! It's what keeps me coming back and trusting you!
Good example to set! Lots of aliexpress rebranded garbage getting pushed on people by advertisers nowadays. Even major sites like facebook and yt themselves seem to allow scam ads or bait and switches and don't bat an eye when they're reported as such.
Great video. I like how it creates a feedback loop where suppliers need to make sure there's at least some level of quality. I never associate ads with the channel though. You can't check everything. But it's good to know there is at least a minimum quality level.
I think regardless of whether the product is good or not, it is important that you're not promoting any lies or misrepresentations through your ad read, ie, it meets all claims. I've noticed many tech (and other) youtubers have a wink-wink "we're just paying bills here" attitude about their ads, like it's implicitly understood they're not to be taken seriously or as an honest endorsement.
When I saw this power supply's ad last video that was uploaded, I thought the exact same thing. This must be a decent power supply if GN is advertising it. Thank you guys for having standards. Most of my PC buying decisions have not been a total fail because the amount of time that you guys put into the quality of your research.
1) Thank you so much for all this transparency, you have always been among the best in the business. 2) You could post some of this data in written form with a disclaimer that it was gathered as part of an ad deal. It could increase traffic somewhat and I see it as a win for the community to have more and better information on products that they might buy.
Hellos to the GN crew. Love that you(GN) keeps your standing in the morale. Questions about ad and how I can support you and other creator's the best. As I don't mind the in ad's from creator's. As I do have a subscription on TH-cam to follow you and other creator's, so does it matter if I watch the whole ad's or not? Love the work you all put in on the content. Thank you.
Hi Rolf-Johan! Honestly, just do whatever you think is best. Don't worry about us too much! It's nice of you to think about that and we appreciate it, but if you don't want to sit through the ads, that's fine with us. I think it technically pays a little more if you watch the whole ad, but it really is fine if you just skip!
Like you mentioned in the video, only accepting ads for products you deem worthy makes me a LOT more likely to consider said product for my current and future builds. If it has the GN seal of approval, I consider it a worth while product.
I look forward to your videos. The way you present information is easy to follow. I do not own Apple stock or products, and reading about their new studio line releases, my reaction is what greed they have and I guess they expect a buyer to enjoy bending and spreading. Deja vu your Newegg experience.
As far as older boring "safe" products, I understand they probably don't have the search traffic to drive viewers, but those items are often the safe reliable and affordable options. It would be great to see a shootout of 5-10 older easy to find "boring" last-gen power supplies. It would provide a great baseline to compare new products against for you, and give viewers a info good selection of budget options to pick from.
Something like a NR200p case review would be cool. Also a Mini ITX motherboard review for the current year and chips would be awesome. Its so hard as new pc builder to choose the right a Mini ITX motherboard for your build given the form factor limiting the components and options that fit on the board, one wrong decision and your screwed. Love the channel, keep up the awesome work guys!
Wew $20k isn't chump change, and you know they've probably had many similar offers for ad deals. My deep respect to GN for trying to make money the clean, respectable way. I hope they inspire other young yt channels to carry that consumer responsible torch as well. Edit: I'm always happy to see some quality Patrick Stone content! 👍
yes, i would appreciate the wins/fails of advertisers. youtubers have programmed my brain to just mentally or physically skip ads cause i can see a pattern of hyper/chill influencing; like how microcenter wanted everyone not in their very limited range to know they had 3d printers decaying on their shelves and people pretended they had a project and 'the lord worked miracles for me and microcenter had filament.' and then i have to have EMS come resuscitate me cause i'm deathly allergic to corpo stoogery and stupidity.

I can imagine brands adding a sticker on the box saying "As seen on GamersNexus" as a seal of approval 🤣
I'd buy that
Respect! The cash will flow better on the long run. Paid reviews are all over the net. I watch you guys just because you are professionals.
“We tested this and it didn’t suck” would be a great way to get my interest in an advertised product. Especially for something like a PSU where boring and solid is highly desirable
If not for GN's videos I was almost about to buy the exploding gigabyte psu....
Thanks GN for your hard work....
Exactly!
Really want to see a PSU manufacturer market their PSU with the "It doesnt explode like a certain other manufactuer's PSUs.... cough cough"
If Gigabyte had a sense of humour they could advertise a new power supply with "Now with 99% less explosions!" as long as they actually make sure they don't systematically explode :D
@@Kepe 99% definitely isn't enough for me to trust it
You and your team's transparency and morals is why I support GN through patreon and buying merch.
Glad to see Patrick Stone explaining the ins and outs of the testing results of that PSU.
And thanks GN team for the transparency.
Much appreciation for having standards and not happily selling out your viewers for a quick payday. Mad props
I find things GN does worth my time because of this content right here.
Thank you guys for having values and not just taking money for the sake of having money.
Quality transparency as always guys, glad to see it.
Thank you and keep up the excellent work.
thank you everyone at GN, thank god we have guys like you all, thank you for being honest, it shows, we all appreciate you very much.
This video was an excellent move. Cause you just increased the value of your ads by a ton. It's basically like a GN "not garbage" award
Definitely would be interested in more videos about why certain products "make the cut" for adverts even if they're not relevant enough for full review
I'm a consumer and I value your honesty, transparency, and integrity!
Thank y'all for the in-depth info on sponsors! It's greatly appreciated that a product is actually vetted before being advertised :D
It would be super cool to see more videos by Stone explaining some of the more nuanced electrical stuff like this!
There is value to the channel, advertisers and viewers in only advertising products that meet a minimum standard. It's a win-win-win.
Yeah, you're probably the only TH-cam channel where I watch the in-video ads and find them useful. Really cool stuff!
Thank you all for always providing the best reviews and detailed breakdowns. Definitely the most trustworthy source IMO for all things related to PC's
You guys are pretty much the reason I don't waste money on crappy products. I appreciate what you guys do and will always support your channel!
Really great that you have standards for advertising products, especially for a category with as many misconceptions as power supplies.
I actually think “mini reviews” would be good. Lower-effort, maybe
Agreed
The problem is the YT algorithm, running reviews for more mundane items is a liability. They would need to post them on an alt channel at the very least.
I love this so much! It's great to know you don't just accept a product for an ad spot without making sure it's not total shit!
Once I'm done in school I'll be buying a ton of your stuff and supporting in every way I can.
Your honesty, makes me come to your channel for straight forward information. Please keep doing what you do!
This is why so many people trust you guys and love your content. They know that having standards and ethics is not just an act with you guys.
Artic 360 AIO was well reviewed by GN , so I knew that even it cost more than others I was getting a really good cpu cooler !
Itengrity is EVERYTHING. Well done Steve, you've done a great job growing the channels and I firmly believe in them!
You could have a basic, short written review about your decision to advise it, on your website under an "advertised products" page.
Steve saying "Deal with it" is why I love you guys.
I kind of figured you're doing something like this based on the kind of stuff you've been advertising but it's great to have the confirmation. Compared to other channels I'm much more likely to trust that whatever you're advertising is, at the very least, not trash
Thank you for your hard work and integrity!! much love
I’ve learnt so much from what you amazing people do at GN and decided that I should at least support your channel by purchasing some merch. Y’all are amazing, doing so much for consumers in the tech space. Thank you, GN!
It is what is it but if you only need 2% power of 850W please buy a smaller wattage and maybe newer PSU.
built my most recent pc using products that got featured on the main channel and received a favorable review, still kicking and working great
I love this "behind the scenes" or day to day content.
Best in the business. Thanks for keeping it real (and fun!).
This is a shorts format in the line of an "unboxing" not a formal review but still useful information
Wow, actual integrity. Crazy.
Really value people with integrity!
When I saw this power supply's ad last video that was uploaded, I thought the exact same thing. This must be a decent power supply if GN is advertising it. Thank you guys for having standards. Most of my PC buying decisions have not been a total fail because the amount of time that you guys put into the quality of your research.
Cool stuff, I saw the add thought, huh I guess it's a decent product if they are willing to do an ad. Your reputation speaks volumes
@@gnextras Thanks. It has been pondering my mind for a while.
Like you mentioned in the video, only accepting ads for products you deem worthy makes me a LOT more likely to consider said product for my current and future builds. If it has the GN seal of approval, I consider it a worth while product.
And thats why we all appreciate your guys hard work and 💯 true reviews on this channel..👍
I look forward to your videos. The way you present information is easy to follow. I do not own Apple stock or products, and reading about their new studio line releases, my reaction is what greed they have and I guess they expect a buyer to enjoy bending and spreading. Deja vu your Newegg experience.
How can you not love these guys!
