Hi everyone, We’re aware of the devastating fires currently affecting certain areas, and we strongly advise against traveling to these regions during this time. Please stay informed and check online resources for the latest updates before making any travel plans. We’d also like to clarify that this video was filmed prior to the fires, so there’s no need for concern. Stay safe, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted by these events ❤
I'm supposed to be going up near the Grampians to go camping in the new year, but I'm not sure we will be as it could be burning for weeks! We seem to get fires almost every year now. Great idea that you put a warning in here right now 👍 The weather on boxing day is just going to make it worse. You guys really are a joy to watch. Hope you are having fun up in Queensland 😃
Yeah Fier s their .not good .but hope for the first to stop and. For the safety of thos. Going their no aware.. safe travel s to your next location 😊 👍
@stopbunsen CATASTROPHIC!! I live at about 10 kilometres east of the Grampians fire burning to Halls Gap 🔥. 8:00 pm 21/12/2024. It's CATASTROPHIC!!. PS. 22/12/2024 Air filled with smoke nearly 400 square kilometres burnt 25/26 December to extreme weather conditions days. So it's going to get worse!!
If you are feeling unwell in the heat it is probably because you are not drinking enough. You have to learn to drink much more water than you are used to, that you were not sweating that much, a pretty solid indication you were not drinking enough.
@@MichaelMarr2 yes for a doctor to succumb like that surprised me. I worked in Southern China where the heat and humidity can be challenging. Fortunately as an Australian I had enough experience of those sort of conditions to know not to either over or under hydrate.
Ohhh I love you guys! I’m an Aussie, but love seeing the places that I didn’t know about. Mado you always make me smile with the sweet little comments you make ☺️ Thank you ❤
13:02 hydrate, hydrate, then hydrate some more! It’s recommended that for every 2.5 ltr of water, have 600ml of some increased hydration drink like Gatorade or hydralyte
That's one of the great things about Victoria, there are so many amazing places to go and see. Beaches, Coastlines, Mountains, Bushland and New and Old buildings, quaint old towns... the list is endless.
Halls gap is currently under evacuation due to bushfires. I’m glad you got to enjoy it before then. I see that a few people have suggested that you Visit Wilson’s Promontory and I absolutely agree. As a Victorian, it’s my favourite place. I would recommend doing the day trek to Sealers Cove and back. If you’re interested in doing a longer trek you need to take everything with you including water purification equipment. The beaches are absolutely pristine.
@MurrayRiverr The Fire was moving through Halls Gap about 2 hours ago 6 or 7 we will find out tonight or tomorrow what the damage is ? I hope everyone is safe.
Yes! Wilson's Prom is one of my fondest holiday memories. I was only there a couple of days, but it was so beautiful! Climbing Mount Oberon was a highlight for me. I'm very unfit, so the climb was a challenge, and the feeling of getting to the top and being surrounded by so much beauty was euphoric!
As a Queenslander I'm a bit worried that you guys are already struggling with the heat. Please get yourself better hats, and don't be afraid to wear a cotton long sleeve shirt sometimes. There's a reason why we get up super early here in summer to beat the heat. Loving your content.
My favorite hat currently is a Bramah squashable. Great for keeping the sun off of your head and not as expensive as an Akubra. Also please when you go walking carry at least 2l of water each, you'll easily sweat it out in the heat.
The Pinnacle walk is a hard climb in Vic's humidity, for all of us, but well worth the effort. Well done, legends. Sunsets and Sunrise here are a solid 10.
Our thoughts go out from New Zealand to the people and animals living in the Grampians affected by the bushfires and also the people of Vanuatu hit by the huge earthquake recently - both places you have visited - it must be a big shock to see. ❤️
Mado, if you can't deal with the heat. Get rid of those damn leggings and get some lose breathing shorts with flared leg openings FFS. And take chilled water with you in a sealable container (aluminium) so that you can put it in the rivers/streams you pass by to keep it COOL!!!
I am from Adelaide but my Mum's cousin and his family used to own a log cabin business in Dunkeld and we spent many holidays there. It is such a beautiful place to see. So nice to see it again on your video :)
Heat stroke can kill. You need to carry water 💦 try backpack with water bladder and long straw. You also need a wide brim hat, cotton clothing and try and hike in early morning or late afternoon avoiding the hottest part of the midday sun 🌞 Don't ignore hot red face 🥵 sit in shade, wet cloth and put around neck, drink heaps of water.
Glen you walked past big sun hats in the general store at Halls Gap where you bought the candle. You want a big wide straw one to shade your neck and shoulders. You can get them cheap at any Bunnings store you see. A baseball cap really isn’t big enough as the back of your neck is exposed. The Australian sun is fierce, and you will get even more burnt in overcast weather or when swimming as the sun reflects off the water onto your body.
As you head west, ensure you hydrate often and find a hat for sure. A good sunscreen is also a must. Just remember, South Australia is the driest region in the world, Burke & Wills found that out the hard way. I lived for 30 years around the Simpson Desert, just need to be careful, heat can sneak up on you so, so quick
FYI - Aldi sells Electrolyte tablets near the dental section (in a tube thing like Berocca). Add a tablet to water and it helps rehydrate you and replace salts etc. Add a few to your water bottle. It was worrying to see Mado look so sick.
Glad you got to experience some of the Grampians before the bushfire currently happening. Definately better prepared with a camelbak water backpack & hat.
Hi Glen. I would have to say is that the day you arrived in Australia and if you are to go hiking and walking the first thing you should have purchased is a broad brim hat.
Excellent episode guys. You both need to buy yourself a special scarf called Cool Touch Ice Towel Scarf. You wet them place in fridge and when you wear it, it keeps you cool for hours. You can get them $20. You can also get ice cool vests same idea but you are wearing it around your chest, our sportsmen wear them in summer. For bugs, fly barrier get a thermacell it creates a bug fly free zone. All these items can be bought online, Amazon, ebay, out door shops
I'll keep saying it I'm sure ,you guys are fun enjoying your travels around, the way you guys interact with each other and us the audience is funny and cool, and loving the way you pronounce places and stuff here,I'm sure we Australians would pronounce stuff just as funny in Germany or Ireland just as entertaining hehe, anyway keep having fun travels, seems we are all enjoying ,ya numbers are getting up there 😊😊😊
If you are still in areas being affected by heatwaves, you need to dress appropriately,. Wear a broad brimmed hat, (the Cancer Counci sell great ones), wear loose fitting light coloured clothes, preferably white. Use lots of sunscreen, use early and often. Drink lots of water.
I recommend a cooling cloth/towel to battle the heat. They're cheap, you wet & rinse them, spin them around a few times which drops the temperature & then rap them around your neck. Rap them up right and the breeze keeps them cool for at least an hour. Really helps. Stay safe, have fun.
Great video. Living the dream! If you are going past Adelaide make sure you have lots of extra water and spare petrol in the car and always carry water with you. Safe travels and have a great time.
It was 1985 and from adelaide to the grampians with my 2 best mates and his parents taking turns driving , i thought NOTHING of the fact they had a flagon of sherry and port in the front SEAT and had little tipple glasses in hand the whole way there ,tHREE packs of smokes later we got there , had a amazing time and then did the same thing back job done dad's in control shell be right mate ,HOLY CRAP
Prayers for the people & wildlife of the Grampians, at this time of bush fires. There was a time when there were a lot of Koala's in the Grampians, not anymore unfortunately. Plenty of Deer & Roo's though.
l remember doing the climb to the top of the pinnacles in about 1977 and there was no fence at the lookout when you got to the top, very scary when it was windy🙂
Glad you’re enjoying our lovely state of Victoria it’s a shame you didn’t go to the Mornington peninsula when you were in MELBOURNE .IF you come down the east coast again I am sure you would love BRIGHT AND SURROUNDING areas beautiful in AUTUMN
Now that the weather is getting hot you may find it easier to cope if you book some paid accommodation once or twice a week to chill out in air conditioned comfort. Cooler days are good for saving $$ but can be exhausting in the heat. Have fun in your travels
Alright, folks, Aussie summer is just getting started! Make sure you’re wearing a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from the sun, always carry water with you-even if you're just heading out for a short walk-and avoid hikes during the hottest part of the day. If you're heading around the block, be prepared for some seriously hot spots. Stay smart, stay safe, and stay summer-wise!
So many of your videos are "you're shocked!". I'm shocked the Grampians wasn't originally on your agenda! If you have time for a second trip south before you leave Australia, you'll be shocked at everything you missed along the great ocean road and in the Grampians. Love the videos. Nice to your backyard through the eyes of travellers.
Hi I'm from warrnambool just started following you both ,halls gap is where we go often to be in nature yes it's being evacuated as of last night ,I'm glad you both left before the fires it's heartbreaking beautiful bakery in halls gap near souvenir shop that you both would of loved ,possums don't hurt people, they like to check out what people are doing and they love stealing food if you leave it out but don't pat them they in their habitat they are curious that's all love watching your journey
Most of Country Victoria is absolutely boiling in the Summer time, as most of it is land-locked, without any ocean breeze...To avoid heat exhaustion/heat-stroke, best to stay indoors if you can during the day time in Summer, especially in 30 plus degrees Celsius. If out, make sure to wear a broad rimmed hat, long sleeved shirt and shorts and plenty of sunscreen. And also bring a bottle of water with you.
No it's not , we get the odd 40 degree day and that's boiling ...but the rest of the time it's not scorching where you have to be in side all day. Yesterday was 27 , today is round about the same . I
I've watched a few videos of you guys now and im subscribing!!! I really love your videos and your company. I feel like I'm travelling with you 😍 Thank you so much and much love to you both from the Yarra Valley Melbourne Victoria Australia 🌏🦘 I hope you love and enjoy this beautiful part of the world 🙏 ❤❤
Hey Glen and Mado, glad you're enjoying your trip Australia. the hot can be very hot in Australia if you can find a small fan that you can clip on it would help when your outside. and also, don't forget suncream
I grew up in Glenthompson, about an hour's drive South of Halls Gap, and that ice cream shop on the corner was a fairly regular weekend road trip destination when I was a kid. Of course, there are so many other great things to do in Halls Gap, and I enjoyed a lot of sightseeing in the area, but we couldn't leave town without getting an ice cream. I now live in Horsham, about an hour's drive North-West of Halls Gap, and the smoke from the fires there is hanging in the air here. I really hope everyone's okay there.
I was in Ballarat last couple of months and the heat & sun was extreme. It think it was refracting off moisture in the air, and causing harsh environment. I usually don't sun tan much, and under the sun a lot, and I got burnt.
Hats are also important, not just for the sun, but because you can get ticks dropping on you in the bush, any bush in Australia...Also important to keep hydrated, as in water, not coffee in the heat..Ive never seen either of you drink water.....In extreme heat you can add a bit of salt to the water, or buy hydralyte...I wonder if you have experienced the flooding in Brisbane while you were there....A land of extremes is Australia....
Always take water with you to drink on the way. It's not Germany, Mado. it's Australia. I never see you drinking water, very dangerous. I'm a retired National Parks ranger, I know what I'm talking about. Its not a matter of acclimatising. it's all about staying hydrated. Drink water even when your not thirsty. You guys should have been sharing at least 5 litres of water just for the walk.
We went thru Dunkeld with some overseas family.lt was raining and there wasn’t anywhere to sit to have our lunch undercover..We asked at the council office and they opened the Mayors meeting room for us.Very generous and much appreciated. Was a few years ago but still remember the day we had lunch around the large table.😊
Dunkeld and The Grampians are named after Scotland due to many Scots settling in the wider area there. Many after disembarking from ships in Portland as my ancestors did. Mine were poor and arrived during the clearances in the Scottish Highlands.
Hi folks… I’m really enjoying your travels. It’s delightful to see you both delighting in our wonderful country. I hope you’re coping with the wet weather in Queensland! Quite a contrast, eh? Take care. 🙏🏾💕🐸🎶
We were in the area a few months ago, but we didn't get to the Grampians - it's on our list for our next visit to Victoria! It' very wise to be on the lookout for snakes. And hats, guys - you need hats!
Great shout from Arthur That 360 view from th🦎 top of that climb ! Wow Wonder who installed the fence & handrail ? 🎵 Hello Hello We're at a place called vertigo 🎵 😎
As you head further into Summer you need to be prepared for extreme heat. Keep lots of water in your car at all times and take some with you whenever you walk. You need to invest in good hats, but I would also look at no fly hat (I know they look silly) but into the dryer heat where you are heading, they will save your sanity. Please make sure you are using only Australian manufactured Sunscreen (it is manufactured to suit Australian conditions which are different than anywhere else in the world).
We climbed the Pinnacles last year in November and it happened to be a very hot day with no clouds. It took us 2 hours to get up to the top as I had to keep stopping, but only an hour to get down. It was a great hike though and would recommend it to anyone. We then stopped not something to eat not far from there and saw loads of kangaroos
Pleas just go to the op shop and buy a long sleeve cotton shirt with a collar to pop on when your out in the heat! Sun protection is so important here!
okay, I see the cheer squad has covered the hat and clothing and water issues. good. listen to them, its for real. What else is going to be really, real is Christmas, if you are travelling through the expected heat wave around Christmas and Boxing day, well its almost essential you guys get inside somewhere. Your little car just isnt enough for the 41c we are expecting, even with aircon, you will cook. Rent a cheap cabin, or better still, get in a caravan park with swimming pools. and of course, Merry Christmas to you.
Glen glad u found eggs on the side the road...If U need spray for flies Aldi's called OFF or just a grocery shop or hardware.. U need a hat with a brim around it for protect of the sun...also micro fibre towel wet will help with the heat and cool U down but it must be wet... Bunnings have gardening hats cheap or look in a Aussie Hardware Shop for your hat or Aussie Shop U could buy a hat can't remember it name.. Also buy a think that turns around as U need movement for the flies... U think that is bad I went South Mole Island years ago had steak Flies covered the Steak could see only flies...😂😂😂
I've lived in Melbourne since I was a child and I hate the heat, so summer is not my favourite season. Plus the UV gets extremely high, so it's not wise to go out when it's extreme. PS Always wear a hat!! Love your channel.
grampians are part of the great dividing range. Which was formed 350+ million years ago from plate collisions. They have been moving down ever since basically, and th erosion the in grampians lead to the formations you see now. Assuming youre still in aus, be careful of the heat over summer. Especially in Feb, it can get pretty bad.
I know we are very grateful don't worry :) very sad to see this happening and fingers crossed that no one gets hurt. hope your having a good weekend Gina!
@ginacranbourne Much of the Grampians National Park has been destroyed by fire 🔥 in the last couple of days!! The fire is not out yet. Watch the NEWS Christmas 🎄 day, and boxing day will be worse!!
As I am watching this the Grampians are having bushfires. The poor Possums, Koalas etc. I hope you liked the night sky out there. It is so clear. Last time I went to Halls Gap it was tipping it down! Also. The Dunkeld hotel used to have the most amazing food. Not sure if this is still the case?
Id advise at a minimum MUSASHI electrolytes. The heat down there is just about the least you’re going to get bar say Tas. But that doesnt mean as you know it doesn’t get very hot. Water mixed with electrolytes is key. Start getting up to Sydney areas ( which i know youve been as i watch) then up to QLD its way hotter and thick, that air you breathed in down there when dehydrated and hot is nothing .. dehydrated and out of breath in the tropics can be very bad.

Glen mate, get yourself a hat!!!
I reckon, I don't think they fully appreciate the dangers. People overlook their ears getting sunburnt.
Also, wear light coloured breathable clothing. Black clothes only worsen the heat problem.
@AnneMorley-up1qv except Arabs wear black in the dessert.

Go to the Gawler Ranges in South Australia, pink granite will film well!😊
Did you end up seeing Eastern Victoria as well, great lakes, great mountains, great beaches as well.
The gold/brownish colour in the water is actually from the Eucalypt trees, it is their tannin staining the water from the leaves that drop in.
Good work sending Maddow out in front, mate. Excellent survival technique. I always get my missus to do the same.
Ah, Australian dry humour - I love it ! Made my day !
Careful, such behaviour can have you arrested in Victoria for practicing "Domestic Violence, harming women" .

We always get icecream in Halls Gap - even in winter!
Both lizards were Skinks. The larger one was an Eastern Water Skink , the little one a Common Garden Skink.
Great video. Really enjoyed the Grampians photography.
Dunkeld and The Grampians are named after Scotland due to many Scots settling in the wider area there. Many after disembarking from ships in Portland as my ancestors did. Mine were poor and arrived during the clearances in the Scottish Highlands.
Wow! That’s amazing history, thank you for sharing 😊
Gosh all those areas bring back memories for a kiwi, did a motorbike trip all around those places, Halls Gap area is great as well,
A Scottish lass in a coffee caravan in The Grampians 😊
Hi folks… I’m really enjoying your travels.
It’s delightful to see you both delighting in our wonderful country.
I hope you’re coping with the wet weather in Queensland!
Quite a contrast, eh?
Take care. 🙏🏾💕🐸🎶
We were in the area a few months ago, but we didn't get to the Grampians - it's on our list for our next visit to Victoria! It' very wise to be on the lookout for snakes. And hats, guys - you need hats!
Great shout from Arthur
That 360 view from th🦎 top of that climb ! Wow
Wonder who installed the fence & handrail ?
🎵 Hello Hello
We're at a place called
vertigo 🎵 😎
As you head further into Summer you need to be prepared for extreme heat. Keep lots of water in your car at all times and take some with you whenever you walk. You need to invest in good hats, but I would also look at no fly hat (I know they look silly) but into the dryer heat where you are heading, they will save your sanity. Please make sure you are using only Australian manufactured Sunscreen (it is manufactured to suit Australian conditions which are different than anywhere else in the world).
Thanks for the tip, we'll definitely look into all that!
We have had some crazy high heat and humid days in spring early summer already.
The Grampians are on fire in some places today.
Pleas just go to the op shop and buy a long sleeve cotton shirt with a collar to pop on when your out in the heat! Sun protection is so important here!
You guys need some good, light broadbrim hats .You will notice the difference.
okay, I see the cheer squad has covered the hat and clothing and water issues. good. listen to them, its for real.
Amazing video,, a new subscriber from India
I hope ya got outa there ok before it all burner? No probs, it always returns. Nature sorts it out every time. Cheers. H
The Mado to Glen ratio was great. Plus keep it this way.
😂😂😂 when mado is having a tired day I always have to take one for the team and take over sometimes
Did anyone tell you about the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld, it’s the highest rated country pub/restaurant in Australia, although it is expensive.
No were only finding out now haha, thanks for sharing thats insane!
How fortunate were you to see it before the current bushfires
I was born and raised in Victoria, and i cant handle this heat either Mado. its okay! hahaha
So at 7pm on Saturday we are advised of Bush Fires at the Grampians.... how are you handling it. Can be scary..🇦🇺
These videos are probably a month behind. They said it's not even summer yet.
The fire is catastrophic.
I live near Halls Gap it a major disaster. The smoke is so thick.Even yesterday, white ash was falling out of sky!!
Those small lizards are called skinks. They’re harmless, but if you try to pick it up it will bite and drop its tail to escape.
Heard on the news Grampians are on fire, was thinking about you guys.
Unfortunately :(
I've lived in Melbourne since I was a child and I hate the heat, so summer is not my favourite season. Plus the UV gets extremely high, so it's not wise to go out when it's extreme. PS Always wear a hat!! Love your channel.
It’s the price you pay for the incredible landscapes though! 😜
U left grampian, now biggest forest fire there n still burning, anticipated to continue burning for the next week.
Hope you guys out of the area with bushfires...and watch out for snakes!! The Grampians are so so beautiful. You guys need to go to Wilsons Prom
Poor Mado, I 100% sympathise with her in the heat, I moved here in 2006 and those hotter days just kill me.
Haven't been to Halls Gap since grade 5 school camp in 1982. Is the nerve test and jaws of death still a thing?
grampians are part of the great dividing range. Which was formed 350+ million years ago from plate collisions. They have been moving down ever since basically, and th erosion the in grampians lead to the formations you see now.
Assuming youre still in aus, be careful of the heat over summer. Especially in Feb, it can get pretty bad.
Been thinking of you both with the fires there! Hope you got out!
The videos lag behind. They are in another country now, so they informed me.
You are so lucky to get to see the grampians. I realise this is delayed from when you went. The Grampians are currently on fire :(
I know we are very grateful don't worry :) very sad to see this happening and fingers crossed that no one gets hurt. hope your having a good weekend Gina!
Oh no, plan to go there during the new year break.
My favourite place. Hope everyone is safe with the fires. Head on to Portland and have a paraglide at nuns beach with my friend pm me
Id advise at a minimum MUSASHI electrolytes.
