I love it here - there are more hidden gems that you haven't seen yet. Let's keep the façade that Adelaide is boring for those from SYD or MEL! Ssshhh.
I was born here and love that you love our humble city. Settled by Germans in the Barossa Valley and Hahndorf with vines from the old country or mother country. My heritage is German (Baum) and English (Webster) as well as Lithuanian. So glad you could visit and hope your memories are sweet for a long time to come. Appreciate all your positive comments. For a short time I did some taxi work (9 months) and it was interesting the positive comments I got from tourists, they were always amazed by Adelaide. One young lady from England came to Adelaide only to see Kangaroo Island, due to being told by her travel agent that there was nothing to see here. She was annoyed at him as she wanted to explore more, but didn't have time.

Absolutely loved seeing the Mount Lofty area looking so beautiful. Like the phoenix that rose from the ashes.
I worked at Mount Lofty House in 1989, after it was burned down & rebuilt from the devastating Ash Wednesday fires in 1983. The Lofty botanical gardens and many homes there were obliterated by the bush fires that destroyed much of the Adelaide Hills area.
42yrs anniversary is next month, I hope that never happens again.

There is a lot of jealousy and misrepresentation of SA by the other States - all for their own intended gain.

In the eastern states it is understood by “comics” that you can say something negative about Adelaide and get the uproarious opening laugh your career depends upon. I don’t know why that is so but my guess is that because it became off colour to brand Tasmanians as interbred - but I don’t care because if a non joke is funny to easterners, then I am happy they don’t leave to come here.
I've noticed a lot of numberplates from Vic and NSW during the tourist seasons in our beautiful state, so find it incomprehensible that the eastern states still make jokes about SA. That stupid host on the 1% Club made a crack about us when he asked the female contestant where she was from. He asked "how can you sound so happy if you come from SA?". What a jerk.

The Mt Lofty BG are stunning, especially in autumn. That little bird was a robin. The lake area is beautiful too.
Adelaide is my home and ive been to alot of places. Its simple and no fuss, lovely scenery, wineries markets, music and places to visit.. so much more to see... i would live nowhere else 😊 ps. Hat, sunscreen and if you see a snake 🐍 stop and let it leave or you bypass and WATER.. it gets hot here 😊

I love Adelaide, lived there for 17 years before moving to Tasmania. I also love life in Tassie but do miss Adelaide.
The Central Markets, Rundle Street, Norwood Parade etc. Sure it’s not as big as Sydney or Melbourne and doesn’t always attract the BIG events but as a place to live, bring up a family, it’s a great place to be.
Oh, and yes, you can walk from Waterfall Gulley to Norton Summit. It’s a decent uphill hike.
15:21 The amazing thing about Australia is that after a catastrophic bushfire, nature heals its wounds and proceeds with living. In the background you will notice the scars of the 1983 bushfire that destroyed a large proportion of the paradise that you are now walking through and enjoying. Sometimes in nature, and also in life, pain is experienced and endured but results in a new found beauty. Enjoy guys, this beauty was “hard earned” but is FREE for all to experience. 🙏💕

Looks like Adelaide has found its new ambassadors. There’s always a place in the city or surrounds for a friendly couple.
Best time to visit is in March when the weather is always good and the Fringe and Womad music festivals are on. Both are Adelaide only events and are unique in their own ways. The Fringe starts in mid February through to mid March. Womad is generally held on the 2nd weekend of March. A 3 day world music festival held in Botanic Park opposite the city Botanic gardens.
Adelaide is a real surprise packet and in a good way.
My parents emigrated here in 1969 and I have never regretted the move.

The fighter jet was doing a fly over for the Adelaide 500. Which is a race event for the V8 Supercars (the largest Motorsport series in Australia). It is raced on a shorter version of what used to be the formula 1 circuit for the Australian Grand Prix. It is a street circuit on the outskirts of the city.
So glad you liked our lovely city. South Australia has everything the other cities have, but it’s all accessible because we’re small. Come back during The Festival time and you’ll be amazed at our outdoor nightlife with world class entertainment. We have it all. Safe travels to you. 💖

I’ve lived in Melbourne for most of my life which has been for many many decades less 3 years in Perth back in the early 70’s which is another good place, Melbourne is over rated, far to congested, and badly governed both locally and state, Adelaide is a really nice place in fact most of South Australia is and is generally my family’s first choice to go when we take a holiday and not to forget one of the most important thing is they brew the best beer in Australia, there is nothing quite like an icy cold Coopers sparkling or pale ale!
I have we. To Adelaide and the produce is so fresh . The people were friendly and very helpful . I found the city to be clean and I loved the old style architecture of the buildings . It doesn’t take lo g to get to nature . I want to visit York Peninsula . Thank you for your beautiful video .

Looks like you were in Adelaide during the Adelaide 500 Super Car Race. The race is a street circuit that was originally created for the Adelaide F1 race, then converted for Super Cars. The jet was an FA-18 doing a show over the race track area.
Mid January Adelaide will have the Tour Down Under bicycle race. 10 days of racing with stages through Hahndorf, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Victor Harbour, in the Adelaide Hills, and in parts of the city.
So much for boring 😀

@@extraqsAdelaide has a unique style and relaxed ambience that the eastern state cities lack. It’s not in competition with Sydney and Melbourne. People like to visit here to escape the crowds and busy pace, it doesn’t need to be a carbon copy of the other cities.

I always tell people who want to immigrate to Australia to check out Adelaide. I feel it offers so much without the crowds and housing costs of Sydney.

Adelaide is incredible but if you want to experience something really cool, I would go a little ways out of Adelaide to the Barossa Valley as it has great food, wine, port, and the country side is gorgeous and green. I would even recommend going and looking through some of the brewery’s 😊

Botanical gardens became very popular across the British Empire countries and therefore botanists went searching around China, Himalayan areas etc for new flora and brought them back.

I sometimes work at the Wayville Showgrounds. The farmer's market there is usally very good value for money.
It's a shame you haven't got time to see the Flinders Ranges, amazing.

Always liked Adelaide kinda reminds me of a rural town
It is to me too. I always feel like it is a bigger version of rural towns like Wagga Wagga, Mildura or Dubbo. But it has the coast which none of those rural towns have. It also has the hills nearby so has a bit of everything.
The Farmers' Market is the Old Wayville Showground. As a child in the 1950s we would go to the Royal Agricultural Show held each August. It was interesting to see footage where it has been repurposed. Centennial Hall, visible from Goodwood Road, was built in commemoration of South Australia's 100 years of settlement. Dd you visit Glenelg. an interesting beach side spot?

Glen getting all antsy, a runner who has found a place really great for a daily run and Maddow getting all clucky.
The farmers market does run every Sunday at Wayville Showgrounds, but the other market (Gilles at the Grounds) is only about once or twice a month (next one is Feb 2nd). I'm about a 25 minute walk from there so I try to head over every now and again for a takeaway coffee and some snacks from the food trucks. Can highly recommend the coffee from Later Gator (the green coffee truck in front of all the vintage clothing), as well as the food from GG's Cupcakery (that first stall you walked past outside), Nagev, Staazi & Co, and OMG Decadent Donuts. I've tried the lemonade cart once and it was delicious too. Pretty good atmosphere, there's usually live music and cute dogs.
Watching your previous videos I assumed everything was filmed in December but this seems to be from mid-November during the Adelaide 500 race, which means I was actually at the Gilles at the Grounds market on the same day as you! I don't see myself in the video (thankfully) 😅
Adelaide has a reputation in other states for being boring, much of that is a remnant from decades ago when things were run by a lot of stuffy old conservative people who didn't want anything to happen here except snobby fine arts, wines, etc. As they gradually retired/died and were replaced by younger generations things have picked up. More festivals and events, more street art around town (as you've seen), there's always something going on here. But it so far hasn't become overcrowded like other capital cities. As someone who hates driving, being able to walk nearly everywhere is really important for me. I wouldn't be able to afford this lifestyle if I lived in Melbourne or Sydney. It's true we get overlooked by a lot of major events, but it's really not that difficult to fly interstate to see a stage play or a concert. The rest of the time there's more than enough local events to keep us entertained throughout the year.

I am sure it is on the list because the wineries are spectacular and the Worlds best beaches and whitest sand are in WA all the way from the South to the North and all that is in between, There are reasons why so many ho come from the UK go to either Tasmania for a taste of Home or Perth for the total amazing livable differences

@@Jacko1165 Champagne is a form of wine named after a region in France and those French Winemakers have been buying up Tasmanian Wineries, So I wonder what they know we don't, South Australia because of it's climate makes specific Mediterranean style wines other regions with differing climates make different wines so the "Best " is a somewhat ambiguous statement not a fact as different regions do not make comparable products and the same applies to different countries.

@@Jacko1165 Cannot argue with awards, So I guess Tasmania makes the best whisky in the world and overall Australia punches well above it's weight, When I grew up one of my neighbours who worked at ANSTO our only nuclear facility developed the atomic battery they use to this day in Heart pacemakers unfortunately no business leaders or politicians saw fit to back him so he moved to Canada where they were only to happy to help him, Much like our CSIRO developed Wi Fi and we allowed the rest of the world to have it for free we also are responsible for the Aircraft Black Box recorder and one few know we developed the Forklift it is an Aussie invention we do quite well when all said and done just let down by our so called leaders.

I’m from Adelaide Bourne and breed but I’m currently living in Wallaroo. I have been for the past 20 years but I’m trying to get back home. I can’t wait to get back home. You’re lucky that you’re in Adelaide right now lucky duck. Yes, Adelaide is the best. I don’t ever really want to live far away from Adelaide in fact if I ever go and get home, I don’t think I’ll leave Adelaide again. The rest of the world is a mess right now and Adelaide seems a bit more stable than a lot of different places. Are you guys from Ireland?

Waterfall Gully up to Mt Lofty is a nice but steep walk, you really earn the view.
It makes me smile what they call "Mount" over here, I came from NZ originally.
I went to Mt Kosciuszko (Australia's highest mountain) there is a car park near the top also.
Mt Lofty has been known to get snow though.
Morialta Conservation Park is probably my favourite, so many nature reserves here in the foothills of Adelaide.

In the previous video, Glen bought 4 dozen eggs at McLaren Vale. I thought, wow, he must really love omelets. Apparently so! 12 in the pan with oregano today. Try cumin and thank me later.

I’m glad you found the Gilles St Markets. they used to be in the city and moved to that location at the show grounds. The building is a cow barn which is used for the cows during the annual agricultural show “The Royal Adelaide show”.
You can see the stallholders are in the cow stalls 😄
The Mt Lofty walk from waterfall gully is a very popular local activity.
So many east coasters bag Adelaide. I was at a backpackers in Johannesburg a few years ago when the people running the place asked me which part of Australia I was from, I said Adelaide. He then went on to say that people from Melbourne told him that, "Adelaide was boring and dead, it's a dying city." Yeah just keep believing that BS Melbournites! We like it the way it is and it ain't dead and dying!

Hi Glen and Mado, since you guys love farmers markets. In Brisbane, the two best ones are West End markets, along the river so you can catch a ferry and sit by the river with a coffee and breakfast listening to music, and the Jan Power Powerhouse markets at New Farm, grab a coffee and breakfast and enjoy New Farm Park. :)
I’ve always said, that if Los Angeles was a country town it would be Adelaide.
It is well overdue to stop this false "big country town" cliche for Australia's most sophisticated city. But yes, Adelaide and Los Angeles are geographically similar. Except they have actual mountains, not hills, and we have far better beaches than Malibu, Venice and Manhattan Beach. We are even both on earthquake fault lines.
Who else feels like they may move here in the future
Yes, the number of people moving to Sth Australia has tripled in the last 3 years.
And SA is becoming highly innovative.
We lead the world in non-hydro renewable energy. Currently up to 75% renewable power levels and SA aims to be 100% renewable by 2027.
We have huge defence and space industries. We are building green hydrogen and green steel industries and are opening defence and space degree programmes.
Our new University, Adelaide University comes in 2026 and is the only University partnering with the US Navy on tech development. SA will be building nuclear submarines under the AUKUS joint countries programme as well as maintaining Australia’s military aircraft.
We also have one of the largest medical research centres in the Southern Hemisphere and booming gaming and film production industries along with a mining industry.
With Adelaide being so liveable we draw industries and people to enjoy life and work in Adelaide.
We only have a population of 1.8 million so we fight well above our weight. RADADELAIDE indeed! 💪🏻💪🏻🤩🤩
