@@carlwalker1843That’s putting it mildly. Eugene Landy was a master con man. A charlatan masquerading as a therapist. Like all con men, he found his ‘mark’, and unfortunately it was Brian Wilson. He set up a long con that eventually gave him complete control over a true genius. All Brian ever really was to Landy was a cash cow. I’m not a religious person, but if there is a hell, I hope Eugene Landy is now slowly roasting on a spit there.
Also Dr. Landy was very cruel to Brian. He was misdiagnosed as Schizophrenic but he has Schizoid Affective Disorder and he's Bipolar as well. He lost his license, he also got in touch with Brian when he wasn't allowed to and went to court for a hollering. He also allegedly discovered Jazz Guitarist George Benson. It is so sad Brian is a Music Genius! This guy though he probably did help Brian he took terrible advantage of him. Even when Brian was doing terrible his music was absolutely incredible.
Unbelievable. But Brian never should have been put in a position where this creep could do this, there’s a lot more blame to go around than just Landy, and some of that is on Brian himself. It’s a fucked up situation all around.
I doubt Landy saved Brian. Maybe with another, sane, therapist he would have recovered without being further damaged. I love Brian and his music and I hate what Landy did to him.
The Beachboys played one concert a month to pay a part of Landy's fees. I read it was $50,000. What we saw was the second go around with Landy. This time, he blocked his family. The investigation of Landy could have been thwarted much earlier if the lawyers knew what they were doing. Perhaps a transference if care would have been the right way to go. He was a different person after the Smile Album but still wrote great music.
Its such a strange relationship. Without Dr Landy, Brian might have killed himself and he actually tried to overdose. However, Dr Landy was exerting total control on Brian, which, yes, was excessive, however, it's almost like a deal with the devil.
