Hey guys , Greg that clamp you used to push the brake caliper pistons in is actually a pipe clamp . The one end should be threaded to screw in a metal or galvanized pipe into . You can buy whatever length of pipe you want to make up your pipe clamp . Great job on the brakes and I'm looking forward to your review of them . I just received my Powerstop brakes but wont be installing them until next spring when I finish up a ton of upgrades to the steering and suspension on my TJ .Until next time take care and be safe guys.
That clamp is the working end of a pipe clamp. Woodworkers use them. You can ideally can add any length of pipe to extend the reach of what you need to clamp. My clamp for brake jobs were from Harbor Freight.
Great vid. I replaced all mine last year on my jk with power stop rotors and pads. I had never done it before, was very easy. However, I must have created a small amount of air in my brake lines cause at times when I hit the brakes hard to avoid a deer, my jeep wouldn't stop, had to pump my brakes. So I took the jeep in to have the lines bled and no problems since. However, I do not notice any difference in stopping power but at least it's new lol.
Grrat video! Im in process off caliper, pad and rotor replacement from powerstop z36. It can with the clips, same as the one you installed. Are they required? Some people on youtube use them and some dont. What are there main purpose for them? I tried to install them with them on and it makes the tight to place pads in. Any info would help. Thenk you
Hey guys, Great job on the brakes! I enjoy watching all your videos and was surprised to see this one today as I'm looking at doing mine for the first time on my '06 and was just curious on why you didn't need to bleed the brakes. I am seeing some sites saying that you need to do this every time you change the pads, and other saying that you don't need to unless you experience soft brakes. Hoping you can help clear up my confusion.
I did Powerstop brake kit a few years back and it makes for a great stock replacement but as far as it being a performance upgrade, not so much. Rotors and calipers are no bigger than stock. Big Brake kits are redundant unless you upgrade brake booster, reservoir & master cylinder. Otherwise you're just pushing the same volume of brake fluid through your system which doesn't provide the pressure needed for more braking power.
Did your brakes used to be drawn in the back it looks like there’s a conversion kit on it? My TJ used to have skyjacker control arms they wore out several times but once I went to metal cloak I never looked back all my friends have switched over because they never wear out
Not trying to be a armchair quarterback but your spacers should have red locktite on the studs. Mine came with locktite and it took heat to remove them when I did my brake upgrade no impact or breaker bar would remove nuts without heating with torch. I enjoy ur videos want to make sure you guys are safe.
Appreciate you and your comment! Although the red loctight is a good idea, it's not required If the lugs are torqued (and checked) appropriately. We routinely check ours at least every oil change :) have never had any issues with 100s of thousands of miles on them and no loc tight
Nice video, love your installs and ideas! I have an 06 LJ non-rubi that has rear disc brakes, apparently it was an option for some Jeeps. Make sure to check out the e-brake on the inner part of the rear rotors.
For pushing your caliper in it is easier to open the bleeder valve slightly then close it when done. After installing then open bleeder valve again and let it drip until dripping is consistent then close. This removes the air. Repeat all corners and pump brake pedal until firm. Done
im mixed with getting the slotted and drilled especially going through sand and mud does that affect the groves and slots? i watched some horror videos
Congrats on the new position (what are you teaching?); and thanks for your hard work in the hospital! You both are great - no need to apologize for a delay in videos! I run those same brakes and rotors on my TJ with 35s - they work great! I've heard Black Magic Brakes are even better; but they cost quite a bit more (and being in Canada; shipping was insane!). Also, it's SO NICE to have rear rotors. I have drums on mine and I HATE working on them!
Nice video guys. Congratulations on your new teaching job. Greg, I know this has nothing to do with your Channel or your content or this video. But I’m asking you because your a Doctor so I would like to ask you. I’ve gotten mixed answer on this question from RN’s and doctors. You being a doctor, what is your thoughts on this vaccine?
@@Garagecouple Your little Compressor doesn't torque things on a consistent basis, Its too small thats why you have to wait for it to build up pressure. Should check torque after you think they are tight with a torque wrench. Just sayin!
If the jeep is keyless remote start or push button its not an issue. If it has a key, the tumblers in the ignition over time will wear prematurely due to the weight of the Keychain.
Tell Greg he did it wrong😢 where do I start before you put new clips on wire brush everything.🎉❤ did you notice on the box if it said left or right for the rotors❤ I think they are directional if you look what way the slits are on the rotors now check the front and back to see if it’s the same direction. On the same side And the brake cleaner is because the rotors have a protective coating . Clean all that off or they could get glazed❤

dump race fuel in your gas tank clean your engine its dirty.
Congratulations on your new teaching job! Professor Aleen!
Thank you!!!!
Nice! I just moved to the mountains for graduate school and the brakes on my TJ have been struggling. Also looking to get 4:10 gears installed soon
You got this! Take a few hours and give it an upgrade! 4.10 gears are a great choice too!
Greg, The tool you used to open the brake caliper is the tightening end of a set of pipe clamps that are used but carpenters.
You should start wearing Nitrile gloves when you perform vehicle maintenence.
i was thinking the same thing
Totally Agree! We just didn't have any and didn't want to delay the video!
Big congrats on the move to being a professor and thanks for the tireless work working in the medical field! Ya’ll rock!
Thank you so so so much!!

Jorgensen Pipe Clamp, exactly.
You guys rock! Thank you so much! You wont be dissapointed!
Congratulations and missed you guys!
Aww thank you!!

Very cool!
Did you guys make the follow up video on breaking them in?

That's cool! Yeah, we did our brake fluid before this job so we didn't have to redo! Cool!
How did the emergency brakes look? Would have been a good time to check them or comment about them.
They look worn! That's on our to do list
I went with the powerstops as well. Great brakes. Great video.
Thanks 👍 Great Choice!

Love my PowerStop pads and rotors
We do too!
this fun fun and educational, but where was the jumping in the pool? how was the sushi ?
Haha! Aww! Those are all on our Instagram stories..Lol!
I’m planning on going with Dyntrac’s progrip brake kit.
Not a bade choice!

Made a noticeable difference on our TJ! We ran a couple of tests before and after and it stops noticeable sooner.

Good call! Will have to swap them out soon!
What kind of jack stand are you using?
20+ year old ones
Just noticed the "anti rocks" you have and i don't remember a follow up on those. how do you like them now that you have had a chance to run them??
Do you guys notice that the slotted and drilled rotors make a bit of a noise. Not like a squeek but more of air passing through the holes and slots
We didn't notice that at all, but then again, everything else is so loud I can't imagine being able to hear that
Brakes! I was right with my guess on Instagram question.
You nailed it!!

Great video! Looks like you need some parking brakes for the rear…
Yes we do! We will do them on a future episode@
Hey btw, do you have a performance review on these brakes on your 38's?
I must decide between 37s ...your honest opinion on the renegades pls?
Honest opinion, they are fantastic all around tires. They are very drivable, low road noise, and great grip! Just make sure to rotate them regularly
@@Garagecouple Have you done rockcrawling...is the sidewall strong enough when deflated?
We have not and can not comment on that. But they have various side wall ply counts, I'm sure their more heavy duty ones would be fine.
What is the size of tires that you have
38s!

Glad you enjoyed! Cheers!
Hi from Spokane.
Hi!!!
Greg you need new brake lines ..that front driver is looking bad.. awesome video..👍👍
Yes we do! Stainless lines to come!
So how well do the brakes work?
Will go over all the details in a future episode but in summary, AMAZING, Holy Smokes!
So did Greg beat the 25 minutes and Aleen lose her double or nothing? Don't leave us hanging. LOL
exactly
@@chipparmley Haha! Yes! Greg took it! Make sure to watch our IG stories to see !
Greg said that the brake fluid was Hydrophilic. Did you mean Hygroscopic?
Also, congrats Aleen on the new position!
Yes! Good catch! Thanks for the support!
I think your front driver rubber brake line is about to leak and needs to be replaced soon! ;)
Yes! We noticed! Looking into replacements soon!
Did you torque your spacers and use loctite??
Used an air gun, got them in good! I have never and will never use loctite on my spacers. Just tighten them well and move :)
@@Garagecouple ok just curious when I installed my spacers the manufacturer recommended to torque them to their specs
Yup, you can also just bolt them down with an air gun and ensure they are tight
@@Garagecouple Your little Compressor doesn't torque things on a consistent basis, Its too small thats why you have to wait for it to build up pressure.
Should check torque after you think they are tight with a torque wrench.

Congrats on the new job Prof. But Holy cheezits batman, your poor key ring.
haha why is that?!
If the jeep is keyless remote start or push button its not an issue. If it has a key, the tumblers in the ignition over time will wear prematurely due to the weight of the Keychain.
Ps don't ever apologize for living your life, you don't owe us nothing.
Appreciate your support!!
dude there is no shoe left on the rear e-break please do those also...
Yep! On our list of things to do!

The tool you inherited is half of a pipe clamp.
I like her rainbow color shirt. 😂
The best thing that you could do is ditch those wheel spacers
Absolutely not! Have had wheel spacers on jeeps for over 200,000 cumulative miles. Today isn't the day
@ 1:29 mins mark, Beware of Vampires!
Didn't catch that?
Wasn’t someone supposed to jump in the pool!
So who's jumping in the pool
Haha! Check out our IG to see!
FIRST!
cHEERS!
Instructions unclear I started to drive but I have no wheels or tires
LOL
Allie is so so hot she needs to be there also
good video , but bro ,you gotta start using gloves . You do work in a hospital right ? at least protect your hands with surgical gloves .
Surgical gloves shred to pieces. He'll, I shred 9mill gloves
Great video, as always!
