    The custom nuts are for sale! www.etsy.com/listing/1760507928/the-best-jeep-tj-wrangler-dome-light
    If you don't have a 3d printer or want them in a filament you can't print (ASA) I'm here to help!
    Thank you everyone for all your support!

    Just did this. thanks! I don't have a cool 3d printer, but now thinking I should get one. Ended up just getting a 10m 1.0 nut and it holds just fine with space for the door. Doesn't look as clean, but functional for now. Before I just pulled the fuse, but found I would keep it out even when the doors went back on because I'm too lazy and keep forgetting about it.

    Thank you so so much for this! I found the switches. I think the correct ones are OEM and the one that does not work is aftermarket. Just order OEM switches and you are good. This modification took 1 hour with the 3D printing. Works perfectly, thank you!

    Why didn't Jeep think of this?? All TJ's should have had these on the assembly line.

      Actually... Jeep did. There is a simple fuse that you pull located behind the glovebox. Apparently, this poster never did a quick 30 second review of his owners manual prior to spending hours concocting this "simple fix"

    • @MaconLightning
      @MaconLightning 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      wy wybulldog The switch is a whole lot more “simpler” by only having to pull it out t disengage the whole door light. A lot more convenient for owners too, and better yet when it’s time for doors to come back on then you just close the door then it resets! A lot easier.

  • @clipofthedayyup4907

    While this looks great in theory I actually find the fuse easy to get to and it gives light illumination while turning off the jeep for a short time which I like. This setup eliminates thus factory feature that is automatic when turning off the the vehicle. This was well thought out by jeep. I even made a little handle to the fuse to be pulled and there is a spot to store this fuse in the fusebox when not needing door pin switch to work.

    • @Dr_Kenneth_Noisewater
      @Dr_Kenneth_Noisewater ปีที่แล้ว

      Pulling the fuse is dead simple - No obscure parts, wiring, or 3D printing required. I didn't know that about the light delay and I like the idea of putting a little handle on the fuse.

    This is a cool idea and very well described. However, Jeep designed fuse 4 to be the switch for door off operation. I fail to see how this is a simpler solution than removing the fuse and storing it in the glove box.

    • @wywybulldog3785
      @wywybulldog3785 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ZERO NINE - Locate the fuse panel behind the glovebox, helps to take the glovebox off. Do not recall off hand the specific one as it was 20 years ago, still have the Jeep. But, it was labelled on the fuse diagram, also might have been identified in the owners manual.
      Your interior lamps still work just fine , just have to turn them on with your dash switch.
      Let me know of you can't find it and I can check tonight when I get home from work.

    • @Kennykoo65

      Jimbo Funny, just bought a 1998 TJ and read the manual which indicated a fuse literally called door defeat. Put a fuse in there today and now my dome light works when I open door. No mods necessary and apparently contemplated by Jeep.

    adding a switch to the dash would be some wiring but if you added a switch at the bulb i wouldn't be bad. In my nissan pickup at the light itself it has a switch for always on, always off and on with the door switch.

    • @TimNummy
      @TimNummy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good alternative as well... I actually wouldn't be surprised if there's a dome light from another car that fits in the Jeep and also has a switch already.

    Love the idea but cheaper and easier to just mount a switch, I know you down played it but less than an hour and cost of one switch lol

    Just remove the #4 10amp fuse that says.dome override. Much easier and free

      True but I want my dome lights at night. It's more of a hassle having to pop the fuse in and out. I did this mod and when I run with my tube doors all I have to do is tug on the door switch.

    i have those springs they will neither pop off or get smashed in the door
    they were $4 good deal in my book
    however its your jeep do what ya want with it

    Or just buy a dome light bypass switch that has a fuse. That way you don't have to finagle one and take a chance on breaking the factory door switch.

    Pulling a fuse is hard now??

    • @TimNummy
      @TimNummy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. But there's no way you can argue that pulling a fuse is more convenient than flipping a switch.

    • @CubNole
      @CubNole 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TimNummy Okay here I go, pulling a fuse doesn’t require me to install another switch. There, I argued.

    • @TimNummy
      @TimNummy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CubNole obviously. I said flipping the switch, not installing it.
      I guess if you don't mind having the dome light all the time and you just pull the fuse once, then that makes sense. For someone who prefers having the dome light nearly all the time but doesn't want my battery to die on the occasions I take the doors off... A little bit of extra effort to make things way easier for the rest of the time I own the Jeep is worth it.

    all you had to do was push the original button in, and drill a hole big enough for a paper clip. put a paper clip in the hole and its done

    Shame on Jeep Chrysler for a poor design however I respectfully disagree with all this work for an interior light. Not many people have access to a 3D printer. I appreciate that fact that you kept the dome light in factory working order. It's just more work then I'm willing to do and I never remove my doors and the light still bothers me so I installed an on/off toggle switch out of the #4 fuse. When I don't want the lights on I reach in and turn the switch off. Back on for factory conditions. Easy, fast, and inexpensive. Thanks for sharing, nice work.

  • @jameschedore6775

    Plus we all don’t have a 3D printer laying around

    • @TimNummy
      @TimNummy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, the comments about not having a 3d printer are exhausting. You can literally use any regular nut that fits the threads on the switch. The 3d printing was not the point of this video.

  • @Backwoodsfried

    Remove the fuse meant for when you take your doors off there is a specific fuse that you can take out and you can still turn your interior lights on and off with the doors off and the fuse out this is completely pointless

  • @robertgoodale7204

    If it's that easy to pull the switch out why not just pull the switch out and leave it out?

      Until you need to try to put it back in, in the dark, without a flashlight. Vs this where you just close the door and it works again.

      @@TimNummy its not that hard. you take it out and remember where it was. when its dark count the slots with your hand and boom took 2 sec. yes i have done it plenty of times
