  • In this video, I took a 2020 Harley-Davidson Heritage for a road test as well as a 2013 Harley Heritage and compared them back to back. So, if you're looking for a new or used motorcycle in this category, this video should help. Special thanks to Smitty at Harley-Davidson of Tampa, 6920 Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa FL 33614. I have never bought a new bike I have owned 8 Harley's and 2 Indian Cheifs In my life time. Only two were even running when I got them. My newest harley was a 2002 FLSTC I bought in 2019. I sold it and am down to my 98 FLSTF and my 72 FLH. Love Harley's but could never could afford a new one but it made me a pretty good Harley mechanic.

      @turbosure7873 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hang on to that 72 FLH, they are considered benchmarks by a lot of the older Harley riders.

Straight off I have never owned a Harley. I have ridden a few, but no single model really appealed to me except the Roadking. For some reason that particular bike has stuck in my head as my perfect retirement motorcycle. Tried the Heritage but found it too small for myself. The Roadkings appeal is in the simplicity of the bike. ABS and cruise control is more than sufficient for my style of riding. Also, the RK just oozes nostalgia that stirs the soul. I'm 62 years young and I will retire at 65, so a couple more years and then its time to pick up my very first Harley Davidson brand new! Will keep my adventure bike for the "walkabout touring" off road. Best of both worlds in my humble opinion.'Thanks for the videos brother, and a big G'day from Australia.

With the deal HD was running last year, it was actually $500 cheaper to get a new 2020 than a used 2015 with 35k miles on it. Was an easy decision for me. That said, after owning it for 10 months, I have no complaints!

I own a 2013 Ultra Limited (bought new at the age of 32). Everybody at the dealership was surprised with my age and the type of bike I bought. That thing has been paid off, looks and rides great and I'll keep it for at least another 20 years. I'm sure it will turn heads as I ride it 20 years from now. Love the old-school traditional look on a cruiser.

Have an 02' I bought new. Made a few changes, got rid of the chain and tensioner shoe cam setup and installed S&S gear driven cams. I picked up about 10 hp and 15 ft lbs of torque. Added true dual exhaust and put a Mustang seat on. Installed the inserts to make the saddlebags like hard bags, bike is 18 years old with 50K on it and the bags still look new, no sagging. Have ridden as much as 500 miles in a day in total comfort. Like Jerry, I'm the old school look kind of guy, the new ones don't have the same look. Would never get rid of this bike, even if I bought another.

I have an '02 Fatboy, best year for the Twin cams (Timken bearings, forged crank, etc.) and also went w/Stage 2 S&S gear driven cams and Bassani Fire Sweep exhaust and Power Vision ECU tuner and had it professionally Dyno'ed and also picked up 10 hp & 15 ft lbs of torque over stock. It runs, looks and sounds fantastic. Like you, this one will stay forever even when I get another bike. Seriously considering a Road Glide or Street Glide. Keep the rubber side down.

you were talking the old softails, I had a 1992 softail custom bought it brand new and had it for 24 years. After doing a 5 -7 day trip and the constant vibration, my body felt like I got in a long dragged out street fight. Loved that bike though. then bought a 2015 street g special and my body felt like I won the lottery. what an extreme difference... and I don't have to carry wrenches with me anymore.. lol..

Used all day. Just paid $6000 for a 91 FLHTP Police bike with a whopping 6391 miles on it, has been in climate controlled storage for 8 years. Spent another $1500 on parts (tires, battery, belt, etc) doing the work myself. Put a EV-27 cam and Torrington in it, rejetted the CV with a Yost Power Tube, the rest box stock. I can roll all day at 80 in air suspended comfort for less than 10G's on to me a much cooler bike than any new one.

Harleys, any model drop so much in value when you roll them off the lot and in the first couple of years. I bought my first one new but since then I have bought 3 used ones that were 2 years old with between 500 and 1000 miles and already had a couple more thousand dollars in accessory's added and not a scratch on them for approximately 1/3 less than new. If you don't have to have the latest and greatest used is the way to go. You have to be patient to find the jewels but they are out there.

All are in showroom condition, but I ride them. My 2001 Ultra Classic has 80K miles, the 2002 Softail has 50K, the 2013 Electra Glide Classic has about 30K, and my wife's 2006 Sporty only has about 5K. Love all of them. No reason to upgrade.

@@motorman857 The depreciation of a used vehicle or motorcycle is always much less than a new one because you paid a depreciated purchase price to begin with. Much less. And I'd rather check metric bike dealerships than German ones; their product is much more reliable.

Buying used does not help the motor company. But Harley does not offer much every year like other manufacturers like horsepower snd more tech. So we buy used. Harley offers mostly new paint jobs every year. Most manufacturers make Traction control, stability control, and ABS standard. Still an option with Harley. If Euro 4 requiring ABS or Euro 5 requiring Traction control, Indian or Harley would still not offer or still an option.

Peter, the Indians are still Victory/Polaris. Polaris didn't get rid of Victory. They changed to a more "marketable" name, Indian. Better name recognition = more sales. It's just business.

This made me think of how MANY people will buy a Rebel 300 and ride it for a few months (weeks?) and then trade it in for a larger bike. One would think there would be a huge number of used 300s out there eager for a buyer. Where I live there is not -- and has not been for over a year that I have been noticing -- a single, used Rebel 300 for sale at my local dealer. So much for logic. In fact, in my small city, at least 90% of the cruiser bikes on the street are Harleys. I think I've seen one Kawasaki. No Indians. One old Honda Shadow. Interesting because there is no Harley dealership in town, nearest is 40 miles away. Bikes for sale here are Kaw, Suz, Yam & Honda. Yet virtually none of those are on the street. Yet when I talked with the sales guy, he said sales are very good. Go figure.

Thanks for the review & comparison. Been considering upgrading from a C50T to a 2015-2017 used Heritage, but concerned about the lean angle issue. How limited is it, for example will there be a lot of floorboard scraping in your training course layout?? How much of a problem would the scraping be up at the Deals Gap / Tail of the Dragon route? I'm 62 years old, but try identifying at about 20 years younger, truly not sure how spirited of a rider I really am.

Hi Ric. I owned a Volusia. Same as the C-50. I rented a Heritage and took it out for about 200 miles on straight and very curvey roads. The floor boards on the Heritage do scrape early. But the bike is very well balanced and I am not the kind of rider who likes to drag my knees anyway. I owned a 06 Roadglide for a while. I think the Suzuki and the Heritage have better suspension than the Roadglide.

How do you know it was junk if you never owned one? It had one issue , the cam chain tensioner. It’s a lot cheaper to fix that, than buy a new bike. The M8 has sumping problems. Every engine has it’s weaknesses. The new colors and lack of chrome aren’t because of a superior engine. I’ll stick with my FLHTCUI100.

I like the styling of the old one a whole lot better. I hate these all black blob bikes. Did the concept of contrast piss in millennial's Cheerios or what? New Softies have more ground clearance. They also have bigger, more powerful engines without all the heat of the bigger Twinkies.
You could probably have dialed back the preload of the shock and got a softer ride in the rear. I thought the forks on the new Heritage were way underdamped/sprung. They dove like a hungry Pelican on the front brakes from just a few miles an hour. Probably soaks up bumps like a pillowy old HD, but I prefer my springy bits feel a bit more taut.

Buy used. I bought new one time and I lost my ass. Not because I did anything wrong but because everything with wheels depreciates A LOT as soon as you drive it off the lot.
There are literally THOUSANDS of great Harleys out there for sale with less than 30000 miles and under $15000 dollars.
To each his own but I'll never buy new again.
Just don't see a reason to.
