I did not know you light fossils Agate, dad. I can send you all you want. I live in grayling Michigan, the Ausble River is actually my backyard I live on the riverRiver is actually my backyard. I live on the river. We find fossils every time we Go for a Walk, including all kinds of Jasper. And of course, aggrets. And of course, agates So when I find some more, I'll send them your way. Love your videos and I have learned a whole lot from your videos.
The one at the beginning that you thought wasn't a Petoskey stone is in fact one. You were looking at it from the side and not the top. The smaller patterened ones were Charlevoix stones. And the long really funky one is horn coral.
Fossil hunters honestly must love this channel. Just having this footage online adds to scientific understanding, even with as little context as there is, by the nature of the medium. The more samples you open up and even glimpse into, the larger the dataset gets. Plus it's gorgeous (looking at the 4:15 mark) every time you open one.
The last one was not a dud, you just need to polish the outside of the rock. The coral that turned into petoskey stones is usually shaped like a dome. I have found some still imbedded in the host rock near Petoskey Michigan, and they all had a dome shape. It is likely that your cut was just below where the coral was attached to the stone.
You are the Schmee of rocks!!! I mean that as a high compliment indeed. You share a similar childlike delight that is so infectious and a pleasure to watch.
8:08 First was a side view of petoskey stones. Favosites are awesome. Easy to work stones as they are usually a 3 hardness. Some may have cracks that may break. I prefer cutting horn coral cross ways cut. Cladapora is really awesome in dark matrix. Lovin this!
I've always been fascinated by fossils. My Dad claimed he'd confiscate my body weight in Petoskey stones from me before we went home from a vacation in northern Michigan. I still have a collection of polished and natural Petoskeys of various sizes, some cut into charms.
I was a kid. Petoskeys were easy to find. I could pick them up right from the beach. Other fossils were all imprints of shells and odd bits I could see when held them up close. My search technique was "oh, cool! What's that?"
I live a mile from East Grand Traverse Bay and most of what you have there are Petoskey and Charlevoix stones. Every once in while they have some agate-like characteristics. The cold water agates are a much different looking stone, usually orange, yellow or tan on their husks (from my finds). What I have found with both the Petoskey and Charlevoix stones is some polish up great and others may be such a challenge that I just chuck them. The most rare finds may include Petoskey, Sponge, Horn Coral and/or Charlevoix in one conglomerate type stone. Most of us in my area refer to the black and white (with the crinoids in them) stones or portions as fossil soup.
We live just outside of Petoskey and have been finding cold water agates at the pier in Petoskey. Idk why we are just finding them recently and never before
The very first one would make beautiful earrings Could you take a thin slice off of each one? I've never cut rocks or fossils, so I am really asking if it would be possible? You have the BEST TOYS! I love your videos, it's like opening presents!!
How come your not adding your guitar sounds to the video’s? Have you polished your own guitar pick? If you could revamp the guitar parts with some polished rock, bet that would be gorgeous.
I just got a 6" hi-tech yesterday. Sorry to put my comment on a very cool random video but I have questions! What upgrade blades do you recommend and sharpening tool? Thanks!
The ausable River is literally in my backyard. I find all kinds of Fossils, Petaski stones and agates If anyone's ever in the grayling area look me up, you can go rock hunting with me. I have plenty of spots To go rock hunting.
I know these are found in Michigan. But ive never rock hunted anywhere but Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho. Haven't cut mine open yet but the outside looks the same. It was in a creek bed that dried up eons ago. I was looking for petrified wood. The area didn't appear to have anyone living close by or previously. I dont know. I happy to have one regardless!
Very well done. Again..... Your presentation is well thought out. It has great continuity, and keen editing to present your adventures through the lenses of both art and science.
These polished fossils are available on my Etsy linktr.ee/AgateDad

Oh, to find someone who looks at you like Fossil Dad looks at a cut fossil.

I really see the angel wings when you put them to that position.
👼

Gorgeous!!!! The first one you opened and showed us and all the other ones with that pattern to me looks like angel wings!!!! Love them!

4:05 Thats a keeper!😮❤ Unique cutting and polishing session! Fossils are cool! Thanks for sharing 😊❤
Cut, cut, cut those fossils. A wonderful polish on them. Thanks for sharing!
Polishing the outside of the Petoskey stones is what we do living just outside Petoskey. Cutting them into shapes then polish into them is awesome too
If I had nice ones I’d prefer to polish the outside:)
@@AgateDad I’ll talk with my wife and see what ones we can send you for content and your Etsy store. We have hundreds because they are so easy to find
Wow, beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I love your enthusiasm and passion for the rocks 😍
Fossils have so many lovely patterns ❤
My favorite one was the last one polished!
Good morning Tyler. Rockhounding in Crescent City CA

😂 funny. But that’s what a rock hound does. Never has an empty pocket. I still have to double check before laundry day! 😁
How to tell a fossil from a pebble is ut due to texture and weight ?

Good morning Mijo.... They are beautiful 😍❤️
Love the honey comb looking one! Beautiful specimens! Thanks for sharing 😊
I don’t know much about geology but I sure do love seeing the beauty inside. Thanks for spreading your love and enthusiasm!

Your agates are still healthy, Heheheheheh
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing. ☺️👍💯
Bring me random rocks, I love them as souvenirs.
Just wanted to share that my son asks every night to watch the rock guy while laying down. My 6 year old loves rocks because of you!
I'd love to send you a bunch of my michigan fossils to cut. I never see anyone cutting ones that look mine and Im super curious what's going on inside
Petoskey stones! They're gorgeous when polished. Love your rock cutting videos!
Awesome 👍 What do you do with duds? Thanks Taylor too ✨
The really cracked one was donated to the landfill
Thanks for another great video. Love the fossils.
Polish the outside for Petoskey stones instead of cutting?
This was fun.
Amazing to see them cut and polished..
Looked like your saw marks decreased after you dressed it.
Little bit
😂They look like angels wings
Omg I think I have one from California
Very beautiful... thank you ❤❤
The "weirdly" shaped one is a Petoskey stone as well
What was the music being played while showing the polished results? It was nice. Thanks 😊
There is almost a brownish face in the large one.
Fantastic
3:19 lookin’ like a Joy Division cover!
Very nice
Do you have a PO Box ? I have a ton of cincinnatian geodized brachiopods and silica replaced corals you’d love

Good morning, Taylor😃
Happy fourth of July !
I hope you and your family have a great barbecue or whatever:)
Probably on Thursday :) love me some grilling and fireworks!
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
There is another guy who is called Fossil Dad and has a company called, Alberta Fossil Family. Just an FYI.
1 and 2 look like angel wings
I’m always worried about your fingers 😮
No need to be :)
👏🏼❤️👏🏼❤️👏🏼❤️👏🏼❤️
Wow! Love these!
These are subtly beautiful. Very feather 🪶 like. Butterfly 🦋 wings. Would make amazing jewelry.
Fossil daddy 😩
I see you use an aftermarket water sprayer on your Cabking. Do you prefer that over the built-in water sprayer? If so, what is the advantage?
Beautiful

Your excitement is the reason why your channel is fantastic! You do what you love and we can Keep up the good work.
The fossil that broke, would you be able to polish the backside of it? The back side of it is very pretty, but I don't know if you can do that.❤
Newbie here, how do you know there fossils...i get the coral. Thank you
They are so beautiful and polishing them just makes them look wet all the time and you could see all the detail! I love it!
Ptoskey stones?
@agatedad When you polish the inside if these three coral fossils, are you also going to polish the outside of the fossils?
Watch the video ❤️
Enjoy watching you cut open and polish
❤❤❤
I love the ones that resemble wings with how the cut works out
